We went 5pm on a Thursday and there was barely a wait! Always love the sparkling lemonade. - Rockfish collars 2.2/5 The fish itself is pretty salty- tastes like the sea. They over salt the batter so the whole dish is salty. They also over fried it so it's not soft or tender. It's chewy. - Fried fish taco 5/5 MMMMM. Yes! Definitely the best thing here. The fish is crunchy and tender and flakey on the inside. A very very delicious taco. [RECOMMEND] - Tuna Ceviche 4.7/5 A very fresh tasting dish. It's delicious, definitely needs more lime. - Grilled Branzino 4.5/5 The fish was very tender and had a Smokey taste from the grill. It was very yummy! - octopus taco 2.1/5 It's not as mindblowing as eating the octopus entree one. Fish tacos are better. - Cheesecake 1/5 We waited for 50 minutes for A SLIVER of mediocre cheesecake. AVOID. Free street parking

A long wait, but well worth the price. This spot has to be one of the best spots in LA. Their tacos were so so good. We tried all of them and all of them were fantastic. We also got their ceviche and it was even better. Really enjoyed the different hot salsa options as well. The tostada was a great crunch and another great option. Def a must try! The line goes by at a good pace.

After so much time and so many people raving about it, we decided to give this spot another shot. It's definitely better than I remember and a good restaurant but didn't feel it was as impressive as people make it seem. They have a large parking lot and there's plenty of street parking. The line was relatively short when we arrived, but we still waited like 20 minutes to order and get seated. The service was great actually. The host was super friendly and helpful explaining the menu. It was sprinkling that day and they were offering umbrellas for those in line, which is very nice. They are dog friendly with outside seating. We ordered a lot of plates but the main ones were the ceviche and the grilled octopus. The ceviche was good but idk it was missing something to make it great. The octopus was super tender and the sauce was great, but the beans and rice were just ok. We didn't like the seafood soup because it tasted more like a tomato bisque with seafood in it. The fish taco was great! All the food was very fresh for sure. Overall a good restaurant, with good food, and great service.

Been wanting to come here for quite some time now. I was finally able to make it on a Wednesday during lunch. We got there around 11:15am (they open at 11:30am) and the parking lot was quite empty. We sat at the bar before they opened (we asked some workers and they said that that was fine) and once they opened our orders were taken. I recommend you snag a bar seat if there are any rather than waiting in line. Although, the line was really short when we arrived anyway. Food was amazing. We ordered: Ceviche de Atun - Baja California bluefin tuna ceviche Smoked Kanpachi Tostada - House smoked kanpachi, shrimp, scallops, arbol-guajillo sauce, avocado Erizo|Sea Urchin Almeja Preparada - East coast surf clam, on the half shell Scallop Aguachile - Baja bay scallops, lime-serrano-cilantro marinade, avocado Smoked Kanpachi Taco - House smoked fish, queso chihuahua, salsa cruda, avocado & peanut chili oil Baja Fish Taco - Crispy battered local Vermillion rockfish, crema, mayo, salsa roja, pico de gallo Taco de Pulpo en su Tinta - Braised and fried gulf of Mexico octopus, calamari ink sofrtio Sopa de Mariscos - Seafood stew, local fish, mussels, shrimp, local rockfish, house made fish sausage & grilled bread Sparkling lemonade Yes, we ordered a lot but that was because I had a hard time deciding. Everything was amazingly tasty and fresh. Highlights were the Smoked Kanpachi Tostada, Scallop Aguachile, Smoked Kanpachi Taco and the Taco de Pulpo, Those were MY personal favorites, but there was nothing that was bad. I wish they sold beer - but we can't have it all.

Finally came to enjoy the 10 course tasting menu this past month and I'm very glad that I did. It was a very cool experience, though admittedly I was pretty damn full by course 8. The conchas in the very beginning -- oysters and a blood clam -- were probably my favorite dish of the night, to be honest. I enjoyed pretty much everything, save for one dish that was made of kanpachi head pate. just a bit gritty and not my favorite flavor or texture. Very grateful that I had the tasting menu experience -- if I were to come back I'd probably brave the line and order a la carte.

Located inside a food hall, this place earns its award for a reason. Fresh ingredients and done so well. Best to come on a weekday after lunch rush. Got lucky and found a parking spot and wasn't in line for too long. We sat right at the bar so was able to see a lot of items being made. The portion sizes are large so shareable. I will have to make a trek back here to try more items on the menu.

The line was waaaay out of the door but wasn't too bad of a wait. We ordered the octopus taco, SB prawns, uni with scallops. My daughter loved the octopus and said it was flavorful and cooked just right so it wasn't chewy. Her second favorite was the prawns. I also enjoyed them cuz they were sweet and had a nice flavor but were honestly very small in size. The uni and scallops were fresh but not sweet, maybe not the right season to have them? The food court is clean and modern, the food took awhile but I'd rather wait for fresh food than not. Price for the prawns was a bit too steep for their size. Fair price for Uni and scallops and taco.

This place is amazing! I have ALWAYS walked past it due to the long lines each and every time I visit Mercado La Paloma. Some work colleagues from out of town were in LA so decided to give it a shot for dinner. Surprisingly, no line. We found a table and everything after that was delightful deliciousness. Oysters, guacamole, ceviche, a variety of salsa with a Mexican Coke to start. I really enjoyed the ceviche the most. For the entree the wood grilled whole brazino. The hit of the night. Prepared and cooked really well. Holbox is the 1st restaurant upon entering the market. There is a small parking lot that requires payment through an app or the ticket machine. Outside seating is available, inside is colorful and well lit. Enjoy

Coming here on a Saturday around 3:30 pm, the wait from outside to ordering was approximately 30-35 mins. From ordering to receiving our food was approximately mins. We ordered the Ceviche de Kanpachi, (2) Tostada de Atun, Shrimp Aguachile, Smoked Kanpachi Taco, Baja Shrimp Taco, and Smoked Kanpachi Tostada. My favorite dish was the Smoked Kanpachi Taco, bursting with flavor. They have ample seating both inside and outside, the servers are great about asking if anything is missing or something is needed. Great customer service from the line to the meal. Yummy flavor filled food!

We arrived at Holbox prior to attending an LAFC game recently, both of which are in close proximity! My buddy put me on this spot, saying "Were about to have Michellin Star Mexican food." Now I felt boujie. Excited none the less. The line can get very long here, patience, it is worth it. We got here at a not so busy time, however when we sat down a HUGE line appeared out of nowhere. My buddy ordered tacos de pulpo and scallops tacos, the tortillas are blue! I ordered Camerones mojo de ajo, scallops tacos. I started with the veggies (little tomatoes in like a aguas chiles thing) and the fresh avocado SO DELICIOUS. Mojo came with a toasted bread that is great for dipping into the excellent mojo de ajo sauce after you eat the shrimp. The shrimp were delectable. Comes with extra mojo de ajo butter as needed. The black beans and green rice tasted home made. I love scallops and the scallops taco was one of the best ive ever had. Honestly a unique Michellin-Starred-Mariscos-LA-Mexican-Food experience you can honestly only aquire here. It's a food court location with lots of tables first come first serve. It is Michellin Star Mexican food! Well deserved and I loved that we could the experience culinary greatness that is Holbox. ENJOY!!! Parking is in the DMV area for over flow if you don't want to pay.

Ceviche Mixto (Wild Mexican shrimp, Yucatan octopus & white seabass ceviche - $23)

Holbox is a small Mexican seafood counter located inside a food hall called Mercado la Paloma. The restaurant is best known as LA's most affordable Michelin-starred restaurant as it received one Michelin star in 2024 and 2025. Other accolades include a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2019 / 2021 / 2022 / 2023, LA Times Restaurant of the Year in 2023, and ranked #5 on the 2023 LA Times 101 Best Restaurants list. Chef Gilberto Cetina was nominated for Best Chef California in 2023 and Outstanding Chef in 2026. He was also a semifinalist for Outstanding Chef in 2025. [Parking]: Onsite parking is available if you come one hour early before the restaurant opens at 11:30 AM. Our party arrived at 11:10 AM (20 minutes before opening) on Sunday and the paid onsite parking lot still had some spots available. Customers scan a QR code to pay for parking. Two-hour onsite parking is $8.25 and three-hour onsite parking is $16.50; however, I decided to gamble and drive around the neighborhood to avoid paid parking. I got lucky and found a free street parking spot just across from Mercado la Paloma. [Waiting & ordering]: This is an order-at-the-counter seafood stand in a food hall and there was already a line at 11:10 AM. Our party waited approximately 35 minutes on Sunday. Once it was our turn, our party placed an order and was given a number. Just grab any available table and the staff will find you and deliver the food. Once the meal is done, the staff will clear the emptied dishes on the table. [Special note - 8-course tasting menu]: Holbox offers a special 8-course tasting menu and accepts reservations exclusively through Resy. Check the Holbox website for the release date of upcoming reservations. [Hot sauces]: Holbox has its own branded hot sauces with four options - habanero, arbol-guajillo, chile kut, and chile morita. Customers can find them at the condiment counter across from the ordering counter. Beware - they are all very spicy so try them at your own risk. [Menu]: The top items to order here are Taco de Pulpo en su Tinta (Octopus taco), Smoked Kanpachi Taco, Baja Fish Taco, and Ceviche Mixto (shrimp, octopus & halibut ceviche). They also offer tostadas, shellfish, aguachiles, cocteles, and other entree dishes. *** Taco de Pulpo en su Tinta (Braised and fried gulf of Mexico octopus, calamari ink sofrtio - $8): Very interesting flavor profile with a sweet and sour flavor profile and a chewy squid texture - very unique and delicious taco. Baja Fish Taco (Crispy battered local Vermillion rockfish, crema, mayo, salsa roja, pico de gallo - $7): Other than the raw tomato, this is a really good breaded fish taco. Scallop Taco (Pan seared Hokkaido diver scallop, chile x'catic sauce, caramelized onions, tomato & marinated fennel - $9): I didn't like it as much as I would have liked - slightly too vinegary. Ceviche Mixto (Wild Mexican shrimp, Yucatan octopus & white seabass ceviche - $23): Very refreshing with enough portion to share between two people. Not overly vinegary which was great. Smoked Kanpachi Taco (House smoked fish, queso chihuahua, salsa cruda, avocado & peanut chili oil - $8) : Right spicy level - solid taco but not my top favorite taco. *** I was full after having two tacos and half the ceviche so getting a third taco was a bit ambitious. The tacos are tomato-heavy and almost all dishes include some form of tomato. S-tier octopus taco and fish taco. Overall a solid 4.5-star for food with a bump up for affordable pricing and efficient service. P.S. - Our party noticed a stray cat while waiting at the entrance.

Rating: 4.5 Stars Background On Shop: In 2025, the seafood counter shop received a 1 star Michelin rating! Never been to a michelin rated shop. It's pretty cool! Background On Visit: After running around doing errands around LA, we decided to venture to this counter spot which specializes in high quality, local seafood, and yucatan inspired dishes. Credit Cards: They're accepted. Restroom: Restrooms are available. They're located towards the back on the left side. Look for a sign that says "Meeting Room". Wait Time: Wait time can be long. We waited about 40 minutes. There is a designate queue for Holbox. When you get inside the food hall, you'll be directed to another line to stand before going up to the register to order. Location/Parking: Major cross streets are 37th and Grand. Not the greatest of neighborhoods. You might see occasional broken windows glass laying around. Located inside the Mercado La Paloma food hall. Parking can be found in the surrounding streets. There's also a small parking lot that you can park up front. It's not free though. Ambiance/Decor: Not much ambiance, but their seafood counter is neat. You can sit next near the small lobster tank that they have. If you don't find seats at the bar area, you can find communal tables through out the food hall and outside in their outdoor patio area Service: Service was alright. Staffer behind the cashier was informational about the shop, didn't make us feel rushed to order, and handed us a number to put on top of available table. The staffer located our table and brought us the food at decent time. Food Of Choice: 1) Taco de Pulpo en su Tinta (Braised and fried gulf of Mexico octopus, calamari ink sofrtio): Mmmmmm.... It was soo goood! I was quite impressed that it wasn't chewy. Octopus was succullent and everything that came inside the taco was quite tasty. 2) Scallop Aguachile (Baja bay scallops, lime-serrano-cilantro marinade, avocado): Mmmmmmm! So good again! Loved how the scallops were sweet and tender. Loved the lime-serrano-cilantro marinade. I started to dip other things that we ordered into the marinade. :) 3) Smoked Kanpachi Tostada (Smoked Kanpachi Tostada House smoked kanpachi, shrimp, scallops, arbol-guajillo sauce, avocado): Another item that was quite delicious. Loved the texture contrast of the seafood with the tostada. Break a little piece of the tostada, put some of ceviche on that piece you broke off, and lastly, take a bite or 2. The sauce was very good also. 4) Ceviche Mixto: You get not 1, not 2, but 3 different types of protein! Mexican shrimp, Yucatan octopus, and white seabass. When all three combine with the avocado sauce, it makes quite a lovely eating experience. Holbox For Thought: Would like to come back and try other things on their menu.

Can't say enough about how pleasantly surprised I am with Holbox! The line was already out the door when I came on a Friday evening around 6 and I was worried it would be a very long wait, but the line went by quite quickly and we only ended up waiting 30 minutes. We were able to sit down at the bar which was also a bonus. I had heard about Holbox from social media and had my skepticism, but the food really does warrant a Michelin Star. We ordered 2 scallop and 2 octopus tacos, the ceviche mixto, and the branzino filet bowl. Everything was so delicious, but the highlight for me was 100% the ceviche mixto. I've never been a big fan of ceviche, but this was the best I've ever had. Overall, Holbox lives up to the hype and is definitely worth a shot!

What's the wait like if you're going on a Saturday 30 min before opening?

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and found a long line, but it wasn't at all overwhelming. The staff was busy efficiently letting everyone in. Trust me, it was worth the wait! Just make sure you're hungry before you come.

How long is a typical wait time for 2 people on a Friday night around 7ish?

It depends.. if you get there early or just before it opens, then it's quick. If you show up during prime time like lunch or dinner, it will be 30 to 40 minutes. The line moves fairly quickly, but there's a ton of people.. And sometimes, you'll get… Read more

I don't believe there is outdoor seating anymore.

Best time is arround 3pm on Tuesday or Wednesday... No trouble finding parking and little to no line.

The corn plasticy, cheap and just disgusting. The potatoes, poorly cooked and under seasoned. The clams... no notes. Now at this point Mama B is scared y'all...I wasn't trying to get food poisoning. I'm disappointed, honestly the most flavourless seafood boil I have ever had the displeasure of eating. What's horrifying is the bill was $91...$91!!!! I feel like this math is just not mathing. I believe the tax is ridiculously high and possible charged for water cups? I really truly could've made a mean Walmart seafood boil for a cheaper price, that'd actually be seasoned... Not Mama B approved, go elsewhere.

The one food vendor that you might have to wait for is Holbox (Michelin 1 Star). I went over the weekend and the food vendor stall had a separate line dedicated to the shop. Took about 40 minutes get to the front of the line to order. Parking: Paid parking can be found in their private parking lot and free parking on Grand and surrounding neighboring streets. Ambiance/Decor: Pretty cool ambiance with plenty of tables and chairs inside outside for your dining pleasure. Shops/Food Vendor Of Choice: I haven't visit any of the shop vendors stalls, but I've visited 3 (Holbox, Taqueria Vista Hermosa, and Thai Corner Food Express) out of 6 food vendors stalls. All the food vendors that I've tried were very good. Mercado La Paloma For Thought: I would mind coming back to try other food vendors.

Komal has delicious food and is the expert with masa and tortillas. Oaxacalifornia has the best selection of agua frescas. There's Thai Corner that I have not yet tried but want to check out. Taqueria Vista Hermosa is great. There's something for everyone and the ambiance is always bustling. Parking can be difficult if you're visiting during busy hours on the weekend.

We forgot how difficult it can be to find parking in LA, but we managed to find one on the side of the road, just to find out... this restaurant has their own parking lot. Hehe. Went around 5pm and saw we were the first ones seated while a handful of people came and gone for to go orders. I immediately ordered the soy marinated crab and live uni. There is a combo order of both, but it includes the American marinated crab and an extra small live uni. With their recommendation, we opted for the Korean marinated crab and small uni to share with 2 adults and one kid. When the food came out, they gave us another live uni on the house and I was so happy because I didn't want to share mine! The food was so homey and delicious. The seafood pajeon was so loaded with all the seafood bits and the soy bean soup was the perfect palette cleanser. Service was great and they were so helpful to answer any questions we had. They gave us extra water for our little one and refilled our tea when it was a fourth full. They were so tentative and asked how we liked the food. We loved it. We also enjoyed the banchan!

Definitely recommend this place!…read more Service was very warm and welcoming, had such a pleasant dinner. We got the set menu A Combo and the portion was very generous. The marinated crab was very delicious, and spicy crab was even better, but the marinated crab is definitely higher quality, so if you want to get the best of both worlds order both or get the combo. When we finished ordering, appetizers came immediately and basically covered the whole table, and as a Korean restaurant with such warm hospitality I assume you can get more side dishes if you want, but we didn't want to waste any food. All dishes tasted great. The uni wasn't very surprising but it's still good, so if you are doing à la carte you can skip it. All in all a 5+ for the restaurant, also the restroom seems pretty clean so it's another plus for this smallish restaurant.
