I don't recommend this place. I went on a Monday night(not busy at all) and ordered an arepa, mini tequeños from the kids menu and an empanada. After asking 3 times where my order was and after 40 minutes waiting, finally they said my order was ready right after they retrieved the bag from another customer because yes! They gave my order to another lady, not to mention that my empanada was not included. Bad service! No recomiendo este lugar. This is one of a few Venezuelan restaurants in the DFW area with a wide menu. We ordered some tequenos, cachapa trio, sancocho, and arepa. Tequenos are their version of cheese sticks and came with a side of delicious creamy and herby sauce to dip in to. Cachapa definitely stood out as it had tasty balance of slightly sweet (from corn pancake) with savory from the cheese and three versions of meat that came on the side. The avocado shredded chicken was cold but besides that, the rest of the meat were good. Sancocho was another contender with warm flavorful broth with lots of hearty vegetables including pumpkin and some kind of unique squash. The beef shank was pretty tender as well. Arepas were also decent but didn't stand out as much as other items. I love Arepas! Many years ago, my sweet Venezuelan friend and I would meet for tennis religiously and the. Eat arepas religiously- best part of working out. They were so hot and fresh and buttery and oooey-gooey when we filled them cheese and ham. What I remember most was waiting and waiting and waiting for them to be done. Today, that was not the case. I so desperately wanted to love this place because the young ladies that greeted me were so welcoming and nice- however, I was overcharged by one arepa- I only ordered one, charged for two. Super disappointing. I also order a side of yuca fries, big mistake- they were very stale, rubbery, and tasted like cardboard- no salt, no seasoning, no crisp, no satisfaction. Horrible. I feel like they were in the refrigerator before I ordered them. Not fresh at all! Then I moved on to the arepa- grease galore- dripping from the styrofoam. The chunks of pork were so large and fatty it was sickening, cutting it into tiny tiny pieces would make it so much more edible and flavorful. A little salt and pepper and seasoning. The meat was not hot and did not taste freshly made. I literally threw away $20, it was not appetizing. They could make it great with a few tweaks. Went on a slow night but we were seated quickly and the server was nice. She made good recommendations as it was our first time eating Venezuelan food. I ended up paying $151 for 2 arepas, 1 cachapa that you can tell that was made from the package and not from scratch, 1 pepito with a little bit of meat and not with all the ingredients that it should have, 1 (3) tostones trío with a tiny soggy tostón and flavorless carne mechada, 1 pechuga a la parrilla that was flavorless con yuca that was hard and dry y ensalada and a sancocho that didn't even have all the ingredients that a sancocho calls for. I ended up getting charged an incorrect price for the Sancocho that I ordered for my daughter and when I brought it up to them they kept saying that it's because it came with an arepa. However I did not order that one and all they replied with was "but she ate it the arepa". I am extremely disappointed first and last time eating at this place. Service is mediocre l, had to call the server to get anything we needed, they simply took the order, dropped off the food and the check when we asked for it. I assume they are using disposables because of Covid-19, but using French fry red and white checked paper basket plates and 1-2 ounce condiment cups for sides is a little extreme for a menu than ranges in price from $6.99 for a black bean and cheese wrap to over $35 for a seafood combination. The table ware offered is prepackaged to go small fork and spoon - which is too weak to stick into meat And to make this a worse meal memory, 12 ounce styrofoam fountain soft drinks are $2.99 - and to my shock when I received the check there was a $1.00 charge for each refill. The fires - good, not amazing, but not bad; maybe a little under seasoned for my taste. The pastelitos - DELICIOUS. We had the chicken and they had ham and cheese. Golden fried and almost super flavorful. Definitely order them. The Arepa - Solid. True this wasn't the best I've ever had but for a "build your own" I did the Queso Blanco and fried pork shoulder. The arepa was brimming with fried pork chunks, it wasn't the ideal flat arepa I'm used to but honestly the pork tasted so good I didn't care. Combining it with the garlic sauce provided unleashed a new level of flavor and enhanced the meal even more. Everything else about it was very good. I feared there might be a language barrier, but the staff speaks perfect English. They were so polite and made sure we understood the menu.
