Mexican-Peruvian I am only giving this four stars until we can get back and to try the yummy dishes we were drooling over as we were eating ours. We walked in and it is a tiny place. It has a small dining room and there seems to always be a line at meal times. We were lucky in that there were two seats at the bar. Sitting at the bar you can see the team working in the tiny kitchen making the food. What we noticed most was the utmost care in the presentation. They have different shaped plates for each dish. Beautiful! I must also mention that sitting at the bar, you have several bottles of high end tequila staring you in the face. So tempting... We started with "chips and salsa." You get the large tortilla chips you have to break apart to fit in your mouth. You also get potato chips that were so good. They come with a red salsa and a green cilantro sauce. That was my favorite. We had to be careful not to eat the whole basket. I had a Corona (I know, I know, but I can't have the hard stuff). Al had a margarita. He asked for no salt, but got the salt anyway. The glass was large and it turns out the salt was spicy. Nice touch that's different, even thought he didn't want it. I had the Tamales de Puerco. Yum-o. No other way to put it. The cilantro rice that comes with is amazing. I never want plain rice again. Like most Mexican restaurants the serving sizes were huge. Very generous and lots for leftovers the next day (just as good by the way). The gentleman serving us was great. We will definitely be back, but we may try a different location in Bend to try out the different ambiance. Nice job Hola! Now you just need to take over the whole building on the East side! Oh - and they are starting home delivery on Dec. 1. What could be better? read more

If you want "Americanized Mexican" food, go somewhere else. Yes, they have "Mexican" food and yes it is good (not the cheese-laden stuff you get everywhere else) but you are missing out if you only get their Mexican dishes. The Peruvian dishes are where Hola stands out. Seriously delicious and the flavors take me right back to Peru. The cocktails are amazing (Red Cactus Margarita is the best!). Not only are the cocktails delicious but they pack a punch and you definitely get your money's worth! Service is good and friendly as well. read more

Server was brand spanking new and was practically shaking in his boots to take our order! Couldn't tell us the beer list, didn't know the price of the margaritas, nothing. The tacos were great, a little juicy but good, the salsa was superb and my boyfriend loved the home fried chips! I'm told the margaritas are amazing, and I would hope so for $9 but I couldn't bring myself to pay that much. This is a great place to go if you love latin american food, but not necessarily Mexican food. The exotic drinks are great. They drinks seem pricey, but they are actually doubles. My wife loves the pisco sours. I love their ribs. The service is great too! You actually get the feeling that their staff loves working their. Great food, great service, kind of funky ambience. We'll definitely be back but maybe not at 7 on a Saturday evening without a reservation. The $10 Margarita was a hit with the wife; lot of booze for the money. The beans were a little disappointing, kind of runny, but the enchiladas rojas was outstanding and the mixed corn and potato chips was a nice break from the usual. read more

I'm usually a big fan but this time is was just ok. They weren't busy at all, only two other people in the place. The food was blah, not how I remember and the chips were stale. The cocktail was good as usual though. While I was eating I turned to my side and saw the cook eating right there on the line. He saw me and continued eating. Very unhealthy habit and you shouldn't be doing that! This definitely isn't the Hola that I have been coming to for a few years. I will not return to this location again. read more

The thing that struck me most about Hola is that the food is good and nicely presented with good service - but in a diner like setting. I just could not get over the feeling that I was sitting in a loud diner. Okay, so the setting is nothing to write home about. They have lots of good bar selections to choose from including local microbrews, Mexican beers, wine, and lots of lots of really good sounding mixed drinks. My chili relleno was beautifully presented and was very good. My wife really enjoyed her chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, and teen-age daughter was sold on her entree as well. Service was excellent from several different servers. Now if only it didn't feel like a noisy diner. read more

This is absolutely the best restaurant in Bend for Mexican/Peruvian food! I go there quite often. The food is excellent, large portions, fresh, the staff is superb, and most of all...order a Mexican martini! You get a martini glass full, plus the shaker! One drink is all I can take there. Wow! I just got transported to Perú for an entire meal!! The best ceviche I've outside of that country! And the cancha (toasted corn) that comes without brought back so many memories! Thanks to Hola and their attention to detail. (Many try to make ceviche with jalapeños and I was worried a Mexican-Peruvian restaurant would do just that. But there is nothing like the yellow pepper aji amarillo that this dish is made with and Hola uses the perfect ingredients!) HUGE portion too!! This is my go-to place before or after a movie at the art house cinema's across the street. Great martini's and other cocktails, that come in a shaker so you get two. The Peruvian food is the best and their ceviche is awesome. The tuna appetizer is delicious and the ribs on the main menu are unbelievable! My husband and I had been wanting to try this restaurant (in the Old Mill) for a while. One night we found ourselves with a night away from the kids, and a coupon and thought it would be the perfect time to go here on a date. I am a super optimistic person, and can always look on the bright side. It takes a lot for me to not be positive and find something good to say. BUT I was really disappointed with our meal. I don't know if it was because it was later in the night or what, but our food was cold. It tasted alright, but not really anything special when you take the prices into account. I did like the chips and salsa and the hibiscus margarita. I would go back for the margaritas and skip the food. I liked the ambiance, not your usual Mexian restaurant. It was more modern and upbeat. I really wanted to like this place because it's one of the few restaurants within walking distance of our home. I might give one of the other locations a second chance, but I just don't think I could justify going back to the Old Mill location. Our waiter was nice though. read more

I'm really not sure why this place received such great reviews from some. We tried the downtown location and the atmosphere was lame. Wobbly tables and plastic cups along with mediocre service. That stuff doesn't matter quite as much as the food and the food is what is earning the 1 star. I had chicken enchiladas and they were pretty terrible. Avocado was brown and the meal was luke warm--although the plate was extremely hot. Weird. With all the great food in Bend, I would never come here again or recommend this place to anyone. I can make WAY better enchiladas at home. read more

Friendly staff, fast food, really REALLY good cilantro salsa, and delicious margaritas. The staff stayed open late for me and a co-worker when we arrived 20 minutes before they were scheduled to close. They took great care of us and didn't rush us. I will definitely be returning next time I visit. read more
