The Katrina cocktail with ghost pepper was delicious, the ghost pepper was inside a skull iced cube. All of the food was delicious and flavorful. However, my whole table said we were feeling stomach aches the next day and living on the toilet. I think it was due to the grease and beans. Also, there was definitely MSG used in the food because I always get a headache and extra dehydrated and thirsty. The fried ice cream was good. Basically, the food is delicious, but it comes with a price! The service was nice. It was slightly chilly inside.

Came here on a Friday around 5pm and it was not crowded so I was seated immediately. This is the old Rustico so the space is nice and still has that rustic look and feel. Ordered the Katrina and it was really good and crafted well. It came with a skull ice cube, which I thought was cool. I also ordered the Pescado, the pan seared sea bass. The kale was too salty. The cook needs to cut back on the salt because it really takes away from the dish. There is a 1.5 time limit on weekends. Overall it was a good experience but next time I would not order the sea bass but would for sure try the same drink because it was the star of the show.

Great vibes! Great staff! Great food! David attended to us at the bar; excellent service! I had the "Pescado"; Pan- seared black sea bass, sauteed shrimp, roasted red potato, kale, chili chilaca sauce. I also had a side of Chimichurri sauce; I love Chimichurri! I cleared the plate; every bit of it was delicious. My cousins enjoyed their pizzas and Molcajete Hoja Santa; Frijoles(beans) charros, sliced ribeye, shrimp, cheese, corn, tomato jalapeño relish. Their house made tortillas are perfect! I tried one of my cousin's; I'd like to come back and try their tacos!

So she this IG story that really made me want to go here. Well I was mostly disappointed. The chicken although heart shaped was sour like vinegar. The steak was meh and for 60 dollars definitely not worth it. The kids hated the birria pizza so yep not returning. The place was nice and the staff was nice as well.

Delicious drinks and bites at Hoja Santa! We got the Calabaza, fajita pizza and queso for dessert and all were delicious. The queso was a unique flavor of burrata and ice cream. We sat at the bar and the bartender was quick, helpful and attentive. Their outdoor seating is closed for season but the inside is cozy too!

My son chose this fantastic restaurant we haven't been to before with elevated Mexican cuisine. The restaurant isn't very large, but it has a cool vibe. Our server Caesar and the rest of the staff were on top of everything. Service was very good. We started out with cocktails and they were amazing from the old-fashioned to the pretty Mezcal drinks. The three of us decided to share everything we ordered. We started out with the Birria pizza, a beef shank and short rib pizza, followed by the grilled octopus, raw steak and jalapeño gnocchi. Every dish was creative and flavorful. So delicious!! The only thing I would say is the octopus could be cut into larger pieces because it got lost within the other ingredients, and the raw steak could have less sauce. Sometimes less is more. We ended the mail with a dessert dessert, the Nieve frita, which was homemade fried churro ice cream. I do want to go back to experience more of the chef's culinary creations because it was a hard to make a decision on what to order. Everything on the menu sounded great. If you're in the Chicagoland area, I highly recommend trying Hoja Santa.

The meal started with complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered a mezcal margarita (fruta picanta) and my friend got a mango cocktail (mangasa). I liked mine a lot, my friend didn't care for the tajin rim on hers, and the waiter offered to replace it, but she stuck with it and liked it in the end. There were so many great sounding things on the menu, with gluten free and vegetarian options. We ended up splitting the calabaza- an acorn squash stuffed with mushroom risotto and also the wild mushroom tostada. The calabaza was great for winter, warm and filling. The tostada was lighter but really delicious, it was probably my favorite of the two. It was a great dinner, that I would definitely visit again if I'm back in town.

Thank goodness we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server Meyah was super friendly. We started with a few cocktails ..one being the Oaxacan Old Fashion..smokey and delicious. We tried their Market Ceviche which was on their Weekly Specials menu..Cured Mahi Mahi Brazilian Papaya,Tangerine Habanero sauce served with Sweet Potato chips.fresh and delicious. For our entrees we tried the Barbacoa Tacos and Blackened Fish(Tilapia) tacos. Both entrees were 21.00 for 3 tacos but no rice or beans on the side so a little pricey in my opinion. Street parking is a challenge but they do offer valet for 5.00. They have a fantastic patio that is open in the summer so we will definitely be back to enjoy a few cocktails and Latin American eats.

As a party of two, we choose the high top closest to the wall. Our server did come over right away for the initial drink and appetizer orders to where we got a margarita, horchata and chips and guacamole. Everything was good at this point, drinks were tasty and guac was fresh but the chips were very salty. We requested another basket and asked for less or no salt and she said that they're all the same. Bummer. For mains I got two quesadillas (one chicken and one cheese) and a side of beans. My friend got 1 chicken and 2 steak tacos. We also ordered an elote to split. The food came out fast but it was cold. Cold like the cheese in the quesadilla wasn't melted, the chicken on the chicken quesadilla was lukewarm at best and the elote just had a plop of mayo on top that didn't melt in because it too was cold. I sent my quesadillas back to be remade and they were much better the second time around. My friend's tacos were all thankfully hot, but she did not like the steak. She described it as being very tough and only ate one of the two that she ordered. She said it was like they just served her what was left of a steak. After the food was delivered our waitress never came back. Since it's a small space we got to observe the staff. The chefs talked to the waitresses over the window counter while the waitresses drank their iced coffees, applied lip gloss, played on their phones, chatted it up etc but never came to check on the two tables of customers dining. We had to ask someone to bring our bill. Overall this place has decent reviews and I see the potential but with all of the options in the area it's not someplace I'd likely return to or recommend based on this experience.

We were seated & given menus. The waitress asked us about drinks but did no suggested selling of anything, did not mention lunch specials or enlighten us about the many flavors, sizes of margaritas. They brought out chips & salsa for the table & we ordered a side of guacamole. It was made table side by was very bland. It lacked flavor & was underwhelming. It needed salt & more lime juice. Another waitress approached our table to take our meal orders. She was quiet, spoke very little English & couldn't answer any specific questions about the menu. Our drinks arrived. they were good but nothing spectacular. 2 members of our party, ordered tacos & 2 ordered chimichangas When our food arrived, we dug right in. My Chimichanga was dressed up nice from the outside but the minute I bit into it, EEE YUCK!!!!The filling inside lacked flavor & meat tasted like rubber. It was filled with pureed refried beans. The beans were overly pureed & running out the burrito. None of the ingredients binded together. The consistency of beans to meat ratio was not well balanced for the filling thus making the dish terrible. I also noticed a huge amount of oil/grease soaked into the shell, which made it impossible to enjoy any further. The chimichangas were overall, made poorly & were disgusting!!!!. There was too much oil, indicating the grease was not drained from the burrito after frying & the filling's consistency was off. The consensus amongst my entire party of 6, was that the steak meat in all of our dishes was over cooked, very tough, hard to chew & was not seasoned. The bill came with so many add on charges that we had to inquire about. The waitress need to inform guests that chips n salsa is not complimentary after 1 basket, specific flavors of margaritas cost different prices & "suiza" (cheese) on dishes is an additional fee. Most sauces (sour cream) usually accompanies your meal. It should not be an additional charge for those. The bill was altered, finalized & paid after discussing the many add ons that were not mentioned up front with the waitress. In closing, this place does not meet the mark for Mexican cuisine. The chips n salsa & margarita was ok but the food was bland & overcooked! No reason to return to Margaritas ever again.
