Inattentive staff. I came in thirsty and hungry.. i left thirsty and hungry. i sat at the bar (the only one at the bar for the most part) . The original bartender disappeared without taking my food order . I had to get the attention of the following bartender to order a goddess salad w no onion. The salad came with onions, (no big deal I'll pick them off). Finished said salad and beer (not once was i acknowledged during that time). I sat there with an empty beer glass & a plate with onions for about 10-15 mins. At this point no one else is at the bar.. (early eve 730).. the bartender scraped off plates into the garbage directly in front of me several times yet failed to look up every single time . She finally returns , grabs the plate , scrapes off the onions and asked if i'd like anything else . (she took the order, she should have noticed and acknowledges the onion error ). I opted for a short pour but i would have ordered a burger and at least two more beers had there been any presence of customer service. (This doesn't fall just on the bartender, there were several opportunities for others to notice a patron at the bar with an empty beer glass and empty plate for too long a time). I was meeting someone at One Lake who had arrived before me. I was impressed by the interior, it was well decorated and looked like a nice neighborhood bar on the inside. However, I was very disappointed by our service. I had arrived minutes later and we never received a second menu. After waiting for our waiter for about 10-15 minutes we asked for a second menu and were able to order drinks. Both drinks we ordered ended up not being available, so we ordered others. I gave two other options, and a different waiter brought us our drinks. I am not sure which I received, and was unimpressed by the pour in the glass. When a third waiter came to take our order after another 20 minutes, the food came quickly and was very tasty. However, no napkins were given to us. So we had to go up to the bar to ask since again, no wait staff came to our table. We had to ask for our check after sitting for quite a while after finishing eating. After not doing anything with the check for another 5-10 minutes, we were able to pay. In the meantime though, a busser came and took our plates and water that we were still drinking. Overall, our food was quite good, the french fries were really thin and well salted. But I'm not sure I would come back due to the poor service. Maybe they were low on staff. read more

Met the brewer and learned about how he started this as a passion project: but sounded like a place was needed for his hobby of brewing beer. We visited One Lake a few times and had great experiences. We asked about having our wedding dinner there and everything about the experience was fantastic. They communicated great the whole time, the space we had dinner in was exactly what we were looking for (had character without being too much), the food and drinks were spot on, and our server for our dinner was great. I'd read good things about One Lake Brewing, so was happy to visit for a weekday dinner a few weeks ago. I grew up loving fresh Minnesota walleye, so I was stoked to try theirs. VIBE: There appear to be three levels, one being a rooftop patio. We dined on the ground floor due to the heat. It's a taproom -- very plain, bar and tables. There were a couple of other patrons drinking & dining. SERVICE: Tatiana was staffing the first floor, and she was gracious & helpful. Food came out at a leisurely pace, which was fine. FOOD: We were disappointed in our food. Watermelon salad sounded great on the menu, but was skimpy and swimming in liquid. Walleye was acceptably fresh, but was overcooked ("fried hard" in the vernacular). i asked for extra-crispy fries -- the kitchen got them just right. I had the Been Czar stout in two versions: standard and bourbon barrel aged. Both were delicious, smooth with well-balanced flavor notes. Beer, thumbs up. Food, meh. Tried out One Lake Brewing finally after I tried to go a few weeks ago but didn't realize they were closed for a private party (the no reservations available should've been my hint). All to say, I do recommend making a reservation to avoid this happening! The restaurant is pretty spacious and on. Friday night, was pretty low-key with minimal parties dining in. Checked out another pretty small brewery. It was close to the train station, making it convenient to get off. One Lake is a pretty low key but pleasant brewery in Oak Park. Beers are the main thing but there's also a limited food menu. There's the bar inside as well as a rooftop. After getting off at the Austin station, we made the quick walk here. It's convenient to get to, so if you're on the CTA take the Green Line. The brewery isn't that big but it's big enough for a gathering or a party. It has the main bar which is where you go in. There's also seating on the rooftop so there should be plenty of room most times. Beers are what it's known for of course. It's about $7 a pint. There's not a huge list but there's variety. I got the Telegraph Hill, a California common. This is a medium bodied beer but not too strong though. As for the food, mostly meaty options. They do have popcorn. It's $4 and better than expected. This is made with Amarillo hops and tossed in a house spice. For sure could come here again. It's convenient to get to by the Green Line. The rooftop is a nice place for hanging when the weather is warmer. read more

Vibes: Interior is cute! I liked the rustic ambiance of the indoors seating area, but the rooftop was a must. A few blocks from the green line/UP-W made it slightly noisy but was still able to talk over. Beer: solid 7/10 overall. Some big big winners (Czech dark lager, Hazy IPA) and some lackluster (Kentucky Ale) but that's expected with trying new things in the industry. Love that they experiment! Great happy hour deals. Have been wanting to try this place out for so long! And I finally got the chance during St. Patrick's weekend. A great place for a bigger party or a date night on a weekday. The service was excellent, they seated us right away and continuously checked in on how we were doing. The appetizers are the star of the show in my opinion. I could do without the entree options. I wanted to try a little bit of everything. Not a whole lot of variety for non-beer drinkers though. They had sports on and the Simpsons on the TVs at the bar, that was nice. Went here to pregame for Elimination Chamber. Got here and told to just a pick a table. Order a couple drinks and some apps. First drink and apps were real good. After this it goes off the rails. Service was almost non existent and we were in eye sight of the bar where they were standing. Had to flag down the waitress to get a refill and order our main course. Then we are served our burgers and no napkins, no forks, no condiments. Had to again flag down the waitress after waiting 5-10 minutes and she brought ketchup and napkins. We are also one of only 3 tables on the main floor occupied. The burgers were over cooked and dry. I ordered a blackened blue cheese burger. Blackened is supposed to be a spice not a texture. My brother's patty melt same thing. At this point we could not finish the burgers and decided we were done. Took another 10 minutes to get our check. Then they never came back to get it. We had to go the bar and give it to them. I can recommend the beer and the apps but service was terrible and so were the burgers. It isn't a place I would go back to myself. read more

I've been here 5 or 6 times now (I like to really try a place before I give a review when possible). I've never had a bad time here. Service has always been good and attentive, though not always super friendly. But the manager on duty has always been really nice and super helpful. The food is very good! I love the fact that they have a smaller burger and it's excellent. The Mac and cheese is also excellent, as is the pretzel. Food comes out fast and has always been correct. They have a descent selection of beers, but they lean on the lighter beers. But the do have a good IPA (Lando) and a really good stout (Been Czar Done That). And they do some special versions of the stout that are absolutely worth trying! I do wish they changed up the beer lineup occasionally. But they do also have a full bar! The place itself looks great. There are three floors including the rooftop deck, so a lot of space. It's all pretty standard brewery decor, but nicely done. Overall, this is a great spot in the neighborhood and you need to come check it out! read more

Granted I think they were short staffed. I may give it another try , or I might not. The Oscar Milde beer was excellent. But the food menu is very basic. I got charged 50 cents extra for the mustard on my hamburger, which had no other sauce on it, only mustard. And there was a hassle about keeping a sixth chair at our table because it was in the waiter's way. But I made a reservation for 7, so something obviously went wrong on their end. We ended up squeezing our 6th person two to a bench. Then we didn't receive a wine but it appeared in the bill. Waiter gave me fries instead of a side salad. I think the owners need to give their workers more support. And stop charging for mustard on a hamburger!! read more

A solid restaurant with some really great beers brewed on site and good food to boot. I got the beer mussels and there's no pictures because I inhaled them before I ever got a chance. We stopped in for Sunday brunch at One Lake Brewing and really enjoyed the meal, the staff, and the whole experience! This is a beautiful space. The building - a former bank, I think- is newly renovated, spacious, open, and has such great light. Service was prompt, knowledgeable, and friendly. Our waiter checked on us throughout and ensured my meal was vegan and mayonnaise-free. The server, Jackson, delivered our meals with a smile, too! Everyone is so upbeat. Great energy. I was able to choose from at least 3 vegetarian entrees-maybe more- I stopped looking when I saw a carrot & beet wrap that could be made vegan without goat cheese. Came with fries that were perfectly seasoned and crispy- an awesome meal. Real Diet Coke- in chilled cans! I'm a Diet Coke fanatic, no shame, and a real can makes all the difference. We took a quick tour after our meal, checked out the second floor and the rooftop as well. This would be a great space to rent for an event, or a family party. I don't know if the second floor or rooftop spaces are accessible- we went up the stairs- but the first floor is really spacious and easy to move around. We will definitely come back. One Lake Brewing is a great addition to this Central East Oak Park & Austin neighborhood. We wish this new business much success! read more

We had plans to enjoy dinner and beer on their rooftop patio; however, the weather closed the rooftop and we ended up ordering food to go this time. I tried the Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Cauliflower Salad. The person taking our order suggested I add chicken and that was a great choice. Turns out they added chicken thighs which I love! Way more flavorful and moist than a chicken breast. The salad is a large entree and very filling. Personally, I would ask for the dressing on the side the next time, because it was a little too much for my personal preference. Overall, the salad had great flavor and I would certainly order it again. Hubby ordered a burger and thought it was good. I forgot to write the review that night, so I couldn't get anything more specific about his order. We hope to go back here the next time we are in town and check out the rooftop! read more

We came in on a Friday evening to grab a drink and a bite to eat before heading to a play in the area. While we were excited about some of the menu items, we were quickly disappointed by the service and optics of how we were served. We were told to sit at one of the open tables and waited 10 minutes before I eventually walked over to the bar to ask if we needed to order at the bar or if a server would be coming to us - we were told we would have a server and that someone would be with us shortly. One of the bartenders came over and took our drink order and said our server would be with us soon. We proceeded to wait another 15 minutes while the server spoke with the host and bartenders so I eventually waived them down. We saw 2 other servers working the other tables. We were prepared to order 2 entrees but given how slow service had been, opted to share an appetizer so we could leave in a timely manner. As we waited for the pretzel (which was overly salted), we noticed that everyone else in the establishment but us had been given glasses of water, included the 3 parties that were seated after us. As an interracial lesbian couple, this experience left a bad taste in our mouths. My partner pointed out all of these issues to our server when we paid and regardless of the apologies and what the intention was in the moment, the impact left us not wanting to return. read more

The first person to serve us seemed very disinterested in working and then a switch in staff occurred and the second server was a little more friendly. The food was average. The pulled pork was decent but not great. The fish was a small portion but everything came with a lot of fries. I love fries but didn't love these. Tried a flight of Lando (a juicy IPA) - OUR PERSONAL FAVORITE, Hopbrite (American Pale Ale), Telegraph Hill (common style, caramel-y), and Schwartzbier (German style black beer)... one of my faves as well. We really liked the chandel-beer - i've posted a pic! Don't know if they have brewery tours, but seeing the brewing equipment from the dining room is pretty cool! I know they're going for a minimalist look with clean lines, but I feel the interior lacks some character.... but it could also be the lack of music speakers in the area we sat. My husband and I stopped in for a lil date night here on a week night. This history of this place is so cool! We made reservations ahead of time for their rooftop. The staff was very welcoming when we came in and directed us upstairs. They were all wearing masks and reminded us of covid restrictions and things to be mindful of while we dined. Something I noticed was the table numbers above the tables. I'm not sure if they've always been there or they added for current times but it made it really easy to find our table. Once seated, we were greeted and ordered a few beers. They directed us to their website to order. One thing I recommend if you're going the online menu route is to have a QR code on your table. It's a small thing but is a nice addition for guests trying to order. I tried the Celestial beer and I liked it. It tasted similar to blue moon in a way and was refreshing. My husband tried the Lando juicy IPA and loved it. To eat, we wanted to get some apps but that didn't have much to choose from. We ended up going straight to the dinner options. I got the One lake burger. Love that they use local beef and asked it to be cooked medium. It unfortunately was served very well-done. Huge bummer! Luckily the corn dusted bun, house aioli & fried pickled onions made up for it. The fries are also incredible and you can tell they were freshly made (served hot and not greasy.) My husband got the wings with the sauce of the month which was sweet chili. He liked the flavor and they were cooked well but the wings were lacking in size. They did come with a homemade ranch and WOW! I wish I ordered a side for myself. You could taste the homemade dill and I loved it so much I stole it from him and even dipped a few fries in OOPS. Overall, it was a fine experience! The rooftop space is nice and the tables were spread out far apart. Another small thing that could have made our experience is if they were playing music up there. Definitely needed it. We'll come back to try some other things for sure. read more

It's a amazing space with an incredible rooftop area. Sadly, the food is mediocre as is the service. It used to be terrific, but the food and service have fallen off in recent years. The menu is typical tavern food with a slight upgrade, but the execution isn't the best. They used to have more items and a chef's special -- the latter was usually a thoughtful and well-executed dish that you looked forward to. This evening I got a beet salad but they forgot the dressing. Even with the dressing (delivered 10 minutes later), it was a very very very boring beet salad. Their fries used to be excellent! Now, they appear (and taste) like those skinny frozen fries you get at Jewel. The beer is good -- but so is the beer most other places. My disappointment is magnified a bit because I live in the neighborhood, and it was a big deal when this place opened, but with the fall off in food quality and service I can only say the neighborhood deserves better. This place has had so much potential since it opened, but consistently fails to deliver on it. Not terrible, just consistently underwhelming. Brews are average at best, and not quite served cold, only cool. Had the Rye Not? rye IPA tonight, and it was one of the better beers I have tried here, but merely good not great. Also ordered a Will Robinson Belgian Tripel, which tasted more like a Christmas Ale than a Tripel...top-heavy on spice but lacking in the traditional Belgian yeast character. Food is also good not great, and portion sizes are smaller than expected. Ordered the Tavern Burger tonight, which was tasty but was closer to slider size rather than a pub burger...what's up with that? Wife had the mussels which were also a small portion, served in a bowl rather than a bucket or crock and bathed in a not-terrible-but-still-underwhelming broth. Kids enjoyed their mac&cheese which were made with spiral rotini...a solid noodle choice. Pretzel appetizer was also good, served with a tangy stone-ground mustard and also a slightly grainy beer cheese sauce that was merely ok. I really want to love and support this place but this is my third trip here and they have been consistently mediocre on all three visits. As soon as we walked in it smelled like sewer/crap and that should've been our sign to walk out but we decided to give this place a shot. We came in for dessert and beers. The beer was not served cold it was room temp, the dessert ( banana cookie/gelato) was super difficult to eat. It seemed to have been sitting in freezer just ready to serve but it was very hard and physically hard to eat. The service was good though, our server was attentive and friendly. We went for the Friday Fish Fry and was thoroughly disappointed. The menu said the fish was Whitefish although it was very thick and unlike any whitefish I have ever seen. While the outside was crispy the inside was awful. The texture of the fish was not flakey it was mushy and appeared to me to have been cooked/steamed before it was battered/fried as it had no texture and no taste. The service was very good as were the beers (even though they were a bit pricey). read more

Beer and cocktails were great, atmosphere beautiful. The drinks were pricey for Oak Park, and two of the beers i wanted to try were all out, but that didn't make or break the experience. But when we ordered the ($4!) popcorn, and got a stale basket that was chewier than memory foam, we had to speak up. When the server dropped back by to check on things, my wife said that she thought to popcorn was stale. To which the server responded: "We'll I know they make it fresh daily but I'll see what the kitchen says." Sorry... popcorn... once daily?!?!!?!?!! Regardless, a fresh (and fine) basket was delivered in its place (that we paid for, without apology from said server) so even if the server felt like defending 5 hour old popcorn, the kitchen knew what was up. Shouldn't have been served in the first place. I will come back because the place was clean and the beer was delightful. I plan to try a different snack though! read more
