So the story on Hoggsbreath as I understand it.... Going back before Covid this place was crazy busy. Weekends were cover charge and packed and dance floor packed and basement packed and just a fun spot. So the owner at that time got greedy and started to focus on making money at every turn in some sleazy ways. For instance one of their scams was you'd wait in line to pay a cover charge then after that you'd get back in line and have another guard do an ID check and then they wand you for weapons. If there was an issue with weapon you were carrying or your ID being expired they would kick you out and keep the cover charge you paid (even though you never actually stepped foot inside they place). It was nonsense like this that caused their loyal customers to stop going. So Covid hits and they were already struggling but then after that they got into this downward spiral of bad management hiring bad employees who give bad service (a few employees are still good) but anyhow that lead to further customers leaving and then they cut the basement pool games from I think it was six or so tables down to whatever it is now...three or four only. Which lead to even less pool teams which means less customers which leads to less profit and now due to declining customers, declining profits, they have started to cut hours and close at midnight which is now driving more customers away. At the same time they continue to raise prices.... I'd guess in 4-5 years (at most probably sooner) this place will be out of business. Sad since Hoggsbreath 100% did this to themselves by compounding one bad decision after another for years until so many regulars and good paying customers now stopped going. I would assume the problem is caused by bad ownership but could be bad manager I honestly don't know but it's a problem that started and remains very high up (owner or GM) and not the rank and file employees fault. read more

It's a typical dive bar with strong drinks, greasy food and loud music. There was a line dancing event The night we were there, which was a lot of fun. I was standing to the side of where food comes out of the kitchen. A young lady was standing there, doing something close to nothing, so I was not sure if she worked there or not. She finally turned to give me a 'what do you want??' look and I said 'I am here to pick up food for ____' . She gets this confused and appalled look on her face and says 'What?!?' (, the sort of response you would expect if you asked a car mechanic for a ice cream cone. ) I repeated my request. She then took a large amount of time to explain it would take another 3 minutes to get the food. She did a Karate Kid , wax on/wax off, shuffling motion with her hands , for some reason not really apparent to me, while doing this. This place is nice in terms of a "dive bar." The drinks are generously poured and while the food menu is very typical for a bar, it has plentiful variety of options. The workers all seem to be on top of things, flowing around constantly which is nice. The bathrooms are nice for a dive bar. They also have a small arcade downstairs as well as some pool tables. Good morning, I love the variety of food on the menu so we decided to give it another try. I've been here before but don't visit often as the vibe at the bar has been really sub par (not friendly) So we decided to try again and had one drink and left! Bartender the most rude I've ever encountered; yelled at us for switching bar stools as the one we chose was rocky. That's how she greeted us, no hello, no happy holidays. The couple next to us chimed in to express that they they got "yelled" at too! And that the bartender was mean. Lots of bars to choose from and I would reevaluate this server if you want customers to chose yours. We were there on Sunday 12/22/24 at 11:15am. What a shame, I like the menu. read more

A mixed experience - I'm averaging it all out to a 3.5 stars - okay. After driving by this place thousands of times over the decades, I actually went inside with a buddy to grab some lunch. FOOD: My 3 Alarm Burger had great flavor but the patty came to me cold. I'm not sure how they pulled this off but it happened. My friend's Walleye Hoagie was okay. The onion rings & fries - standard fare - okay. My pickle fries were good. These things are actually a little tricky to get right; they burn or come out soggy if you don't get the timing right. They nailed it. Drinks came out fast. SERVICE: The service was excellent. My lunch-mate is disabled and he was a little rude to our server. I was slightly horrified by this but he really can't help himself because of his condition. I don't like people that are mean to servers. But our server was GREAT. She took everything in stride, she stayed professional and friendly. I slipped her a fat tip to make-up for the hassle. SUMMARY: Hoggsbreath has been around for a L-O-N-G time, and they're obviously doing a lot of things right. I'd say this isn't a destination location for food whatsoever. But it's a nice place to hang out with friends if you're in the area. And of course, last but certainly not least, they have lot of events. My friend TT and I went here on Friday evening, which was a fun start to our night's adventures. I have never been here before and TT has. We decided to sit on the patio so she could smoke. She arrived before I did, and when I walked inside, I definitely didn't know where to go, to get to the patio. The Bartender noticed, I was confused, and kindly directed me to the right location. The patio is AWESOME! There are many different levels and it was a nice evening, that I would recommend if anyone is there on a decent evening, sit outside. TT ordered a Thai Steak Salad, she stated it was really good. It looked to be a newer item on their menu. It was very filling as well, she really liked how they used Romaine instead of Iceberg. I ordered the Reuben, which would be a classic order for me. Soggy or not soggy?! that is always my question when I go to new places and get their Reuben. So, soggy or not soggy??? And the verdict is in.......NOT SOGGY!!!! This Reuben was delicious. I wished there was a little more filling so to speak. The Meat/Kraut ratio was perfect, but just a little bit more of both would have made the sandwich even that more tasty. I know I would go back to definitely try other things on their menu, the Reuben clearly passed the test. The Bartender was very funny and nice as well, so was our waitress. Placed an online order and arrived at the specified pickup time. Waitress and bartender both said they'd check on my order (chicken sandwich with fries and Buffalo wrap with onion rings). There we're a couple of groups at tables and people sitting at the bar but it was not overly busy or crowded. They then both ignored me and provided no updates on my order for 40 MINUTES while I stood waiting. I asked where we were with the order and the waitress said a couple more minutes and then finally brought the food out 15 minutes later. When I said that a 40+ minute wait for takeout is brutal she said "I don't know what else to tell you". Food was fine, service will stop me from ever returning to this location. read more

I love this place in a lot of ways...but Today's rating is 3 stars ...and that's stretching it. They had a lot going on today...free food, free drinks, drawings. It was great to see and the free meal was good! Loss of one star for horribly slow wait staff...45 minutes in between checking in and even then after we asked for the waitress to come back to us, she didn't. So waited another 10 minutes or so with 5 empty glasses on the table. For the number of people in attendance they were horribly understaffed. But when they were at our table they were so friendly and got our orders correct. Another loss of point for rude bartender. I went to the bar to order for my friends and I after we twice had asked for a server to come.... after not being checked on at all for at least 45 minutes. I waited a good 10-15 minutes standing at the bar and when he finally acknowledged me, he rudely asked, 'don't you have a waitress?' and walked away refusing to take my drink order...like literally walked away from me. The man standing next to me said 'wow'...it wasn't a good look for Tony. Ummm don't you make my drink when the waitress rings it in so did this rudeness get you any farther along? I then watched as several other people approached him who were at tables near me and he poured their drinks. I have honestly never in my life had a bartender say anything like that to me when I have approached the rail for a drink. Like ever anywhere. It is a convenient location. We will go back eventually. I liked it! This is no-frills food but they do a solid job and I would order again. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and pickle fries through Door Dash. The wrap was big and had a good amount of different fillings. It was wrapped nicely and not falling apart. The pickle fries were a little soggy by the time they got to me but they had a really good flavor and a good chipotle mayo for dipping. Went to Hoggsbreath with a large group of friends- about 10 of us - after playing frisbee golf at a local park. That size group is always a challenge. It was a little slow but understandable. The waitstaff was friendly and apologetic. They had all-day breakfast, which I love. The food was good. What I am most excited about though was the basement... they have pool tables, darts and pinball machines!! Looking forward to going back another time to play too! read more

My wife and I had a groupon here for $30 and I know 4 stars is pretty high, but I am giving it 4 stars for what it is, a great dive bar. The waitress was super awesome, they had lots of TVs, the have Alaskan IPA and Surly Furious on Tap. The food was really good and they have an extensive menu. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwhich and chicken Philly. The chicken Philly was AMAZIN, and the buffalo chicken was just okay. The Gophers were beating Iowa in football at the time, so this may have swayed my vote. It was a great place for beer and good food on a Saturday at noon. Again, loved the service. read more

First, the Hogg isnt some place I'd choose to go, but pool league plays here so...there ya go. Food has been ok - I've had wings (good), a side salad (good), burger (pretty good), the pretzel appetizer (sysco standard, but tasty) and the Club sandwich. My gripe comes with the club....there was no mayo and it was SO DRY. I thought maybe it was just forgotten but it's not listed on the sandwich description. There was another item I would have thought would have mayo as well, but it was also NOT listed on the menu (California burger, maybe?). Is this place anti-mayo? It really wouldn't have been a huge deal, but that Club was so dry!! I've been told they have great breakfast food, served all day. I love that, might have to try it next time. I love this venue. At the door, ladies get a free drink coupon. 2 for 1's for everyone every night 9-11pm. The main level consists of two bars separated by a dance floor. Great music plays all night long, and by the time bar close comes around, it's packed! (In a good way!) Downstairs there are pool tables, darts, and a small bar. You can escape the pounding music down here- no shouting necessary. The deck is great in the summertime, and for wintertime smoking. I read the review by Candace H. from 2008, and back then I would have agreed with her review. Since then, the staff has been cleaned up. No creepy bouncers, bartenders are excellent and fast, and know how to make damn good drinks. Seating gets tight by the end of the night (especially on the deck in the summer), but I've never had a problem finding somewhere to sit. The only issue is if you come with a large group and don't get dibs on a large table. I would recommend calling or coming around 8:00pm if you feel you should reserve seats. I have seen "reserved" signs on the large table by the time I get there at 9p. What I really love about the Hoggsbreath is the crowd. There are a variety of people that come to the Hoggsbreath, and for different reasons. After a couple times you will see familiar faces, especially of the "regulars". Food was just terrible...Not fresh at all. I got the steak taco and I was a little teeny bits of steak and a very spicy sauce and it didn't say spicy on the menu and I don't like spicy. Tomatoes on it were sour, was supposed to have fresh cilantro but I didn't see any of that... avocado on it wasn't good. Came with jarred salsa and stale chips. I couldn't eat it so I got the ribs which were dry with cheap bottle sauce, nasty vegetables, Coleslaw tasted like it had been sitting around for a couple weeks. Couldn't even eat the food and I was starving... Left hungry. I recently learned this place offered breakfast starting at opening time of 10:00. I looked up their website and the menu does not mention breakfasts. The menu listed lunch specials from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Specials are open faced sandwiches, fish n chips. chicken sandwiches. I know they serve Heggies Pizza. No mention of breakfast type items. Seems strange to me to not mention it on website menu. But I do find it strange to go to a bar at 11:00 am for breakfast. It's not unusual for a bar of this type to have eye-opener breakfasts. Just strange for me. I went in and sat down. I was quickly greeted, handed a menu and asked for a beverage order. I asked about breakfast menu and she showed me the page of eggs and other breakfast type items. Placed my beverage order and it was quickly served to me. I looked over the breakfast menu. They have typical diner food breakfast items. Eggs, meat, taters, pancakes, french toast. I ordered the Denver Omelette, toast, cheddar for the cheese and hash browns. It was prepared in a decent amount of time on a nice plate. Silverware wrapped in a napkin and typical silverware that they probably have boxes of extras to accommodate for the shrinkage. IE: theft. Not plastic ware, but not nice either. As most omelettes are, this was a 3 egger. With the typical denver ingredients; ham, bell peppers and onions. With the Cheddar Cheese of course. I don't think an omelette can be an omelette without eggs and cheese. This 3 egger was cooked flat like a quesadilla, folded up with the denver ingredients on the inside and the top sprinkled with the ham, peppers and onions. Some omelettes I have had have been fluffed up like a burrito. Very filling, but large portion for me. I seasoned it with the supplied pepper/tabacso sauce. Minimal salt. This was a decent breakfast, portion wise. The toast could have been more buttered. Maybe I could have asked it to be extra butter. But how do I know, if it is the first time here for breakfast? And no butter available in the rack with the assorted jellies? All in all, this was a decent breakfast. Value was normal at $15.00 including beverage, tax and tip. No stars for the creepy men from northern minnesota, the gross sugary drinks, the lack of tables, the dirty floors, and the fat bouncer who insisted on giving me 21 birthday spankings. (I spanked him right back, despite my drunken state. Actually I think I attacked him. He deserved it.) I've only come here with my mom & her friends (gasp!) but she has fond memories of when she used to party here when she was in her twenties. And so we always have a great time. Where do you go on a Friday night when you want to feel better about the state of your life? Hoggsbreath! No, seriously. The happy hour is good. There are always specials, and the people watching is AMAZING, especially on weekends and their theme nights. Not gonna lie, I'm sometimes the object of others' people watching due to the cheapness of 2-4-1s, but hey! Indulging once an a while isn't so bad, and at Hoggsbreath, nobody judges you. The meat market atmosphere and the smell of desperation is palpable. But, the bartenders and servers are generally very friendly. If you're not into the sloppy, drunken dancing and hookups that head back to the trailer park, the basement is a nice laid-back place to play pool or just hang out. For $10 it wasn't a bad rib dinner. My companion had a Reuben sandwich that he thoroughly enjoyed, but my food was mixed. The ribs had a fatty, fall-off-the bone quality that deserves three stars. But the salad was mediocre, and the vegetables were plain bad. The carrots had a spongy quality to them, like what you get when you accidentally freeze vegetables in your refrigerator and then defrost them.
