    Hood strawberries
    Pauline T.

We continue to return here for all the seasons. We have been here for Halloween, Christmas, Mother's Day, and now u-pick strawberries. They have a fun scenic train ride ($5 per passenger except infants under 1 are free). They have a playground including slides, tunnels, and a sandpit. They also are hosting story time in the summer 1x per week. I have been loving the pastries they have especially the strawberries and cream croissant. And in season are the strawberries which are $2 per pound if you pick them yourself!

This was a fun experience to do with family and/or friends. The farm is surrounded by beautiful views and even on the 2nd week of prime strawberry season, there were plenty of ripe ones left to find. They can provide a wagon which may be helpful for larger groups. The shop was stocked with handmade pies, snacks, meals, and beer on tap. Most importantly, the strawberries were delicious!

First time coming here during autumn. I truly appreciate free parking and free admission. It was beautiful and lots of beautiful areas to view and see. Even though it was a very busy day, the staff were all very friendly and nice. I got delicious cinnamon donuts and popcorn. My friends also enjoyed the ciders, too but the drinks took a long time. There were local brands that were also able to sell their goods, kind of like a farmer's market but smaller. I liked walking around the area and most of the area that was open was paved. There were huge trackers and a corn maze which we didn't have time to explore. The barn also had a lot of foods and local goods for sale too. Though you can't pick your own pumpkin, they have lots for you to choose from in their crates and they all looked lovely and fresh! This was super fun and will come again next year, aside from their berry picking season!

My first time picking strawberries and it's definitely a very popular destination. It's a bit of a trek to get to the strawberry patches though they do have a train that will take you for $5 a person. However, if you walk through you can see all the other berry bushes. We went to the Tillamook patches as the closer patches were all picked over. The strawberries are smaller than I imagined, but super sweet and delicious. There's a nice store that has delicious strawberry milkshakes, pies, jams, and other merchandise. Plenty of picnic benches next to the store to eat it as well.

Mid July, they had marrionberries, blackberries, blueberries, some boysenberries, and raspberries that scented the air like candy. They provide unlimited buckets, boxes, even cartons. I'm shocked that it wasn't crowded on a Saturday morning, even with berries priced $2/lb! The blueberries were delicious and very easy to pick, but the raspberries were the best value and best tasting (albeit more effort). The carts are rickety and the walkways are uneven, so it can be slow going. But be sure to go all the way to the back of the fields for the best pickings

Fabulous family friendly farm. In the summer, pick blueberries and other berries. In the fall, it's all about apple cider donuts, trolly rides and pumpkins! Huge shaded picnic area to enjoy delicious food from the kitchen. Lots of picnic tables. Just note the brick patio is old and lots of uneven spots. Having had a hip replacement recently, im super aware of areas that could cause a stumble. The street tacos are legit! Homemade corn tortillas piled with steak or chicken, with fresh cilantro and onions, wedge of lime. What drove it home for me was the freshly made corn tortilla. Makes all the difference! They are decent size so one tortilla per taco is plent Nd allows the filling to share top billing. Get the freshly made apple cider donuts!!! A bag of 7 small donuts is $4. Buy an extra bag to take home! You will thank me. The farm store has fresh veggies depending on what's harvesting. Fresh corn (I couldn't resist), tomatoes, Italian plums, tomatillas, strawberries, stringbeans, etc. All at reasonable prices. Passed by this farm on my way to wine tasting and saw the sign for fresh corn and donuts so had to stop in. I'm so glad I did, it was the perfect spot for a quick and delicious lunch! And since it was a weekday, it was so peaceful. Weekends during pumpkin season are packed! They have live music and lots of activities. Big parking area that indicates how crowded it gets. Everyone working there greets you with a genuine smile and hello.

Easter pastry menu. I tried 1/3 of the options and regret nothing.

My favorite bakery, the former Rosie Mae's, found a new home within Hoffman Farm Store and combined they bring the best of berries, butter, and breads to delicious life! Go for the cinnamon rolls, marionberry sour cream pie, berry scones, and if the season is right grab some fresh berries too! I've gone enough times now to recognize a few members of the Hoffman family and appreciate their passion and heart evident in everything they do. Super sweet people. Check out their instagram or website for their next event and definitely, definitely grab a baked good while you're there!

Ditto to everyone else's review. Tons of $2.75 U-pick berries and if your kiddos get bored quickly, a very nice fenced in playground of tires and a tractor slide. Don't forget the train. Kids were entertained for some time.

This is one of my favorite farms in the Portland area. They have strawberries, blueberries, and more. The best berries ever. Way better than any grocery store berries. They give you a tray carton to put your berries in. You get to pick as much as you want and then pay per pound. The strawberries are a 5 mins walk away from the store front. The blueberries are closer to the entrance. They also have a train if you want to pay for a quick ride to the end of the field. Super fun experience and you're rewarded with delicious berries. If you don't want to pick the berries yourself you can also buy them at the farm store along with other baked goodies they have available. Check out their website and instagram to see what's in season. Everyone who works here has also been incredibly nice in answering questions and explaining how things work. Hoffman Farm is such a gem.

Cherry pie, boysenberry pie?, mixed berry pie, chicken pot pie!

I know people usually come this far for just the trees, but I came to try their baked goodies & I think this is my new favorite place. I've tried a lot of pies in my life, but this chicken pot pie is delicious! The crust is like a flakey pastry while inside was hefty and full of flavour-- and not too salty! Most pies I get are more watery and collapse when you cut a slice, but not this pie. This pie stood the pie cut test and came onto my plate in one delicious piece. I'm so glad I grabbed some pies to try. These were so good that I came back nearing Christmas to grab more pies for myself and my neighbor. I did also grab some cookies, and my favorite cookie was called the filbert. I'd drive an hour for that cookie and their chicken pot pie. Don't sit on their baked goods, their baking team are baking gods.

Ambiance was super cozy! Loved the live music and tasty beer. Pretty standard Apple cider donuts, but I think I got some of the older batch.

Luckily for this busy mama, they have bags inside buckets for berry picking and so we just had to bring ourselves.

It took my kids AGES to pick their pumpkins out. Ages. But we got gorgeous pumpkins and I grabbed a few of the fancy blue ones for decor. For three "medium" pumpkins and a couple small ones we spent $41!! What value. Where they get you is the corn maze. Skip it!!! If we could have gotten a refund we would have. Trust me when I say BEYOND disappointed. It was muddy. SO muddy. And that could have been remedied with hay on the ground. That would have saved everyone's shoes and cars. And it was $5 per person for a literal circle. It wasn't a maze. It was a circle. That took 5-7 minutes to slowly walk. That was insane. That's where we PAID for the pumpkins. Everything here is pay via Venmo or cash box on the honor system. That's why we paid out the wazoo for the maze. Ugh. How crummy!! (So you HAVE to use Venmo or cash ONLY!) A little bonus was being able to see baby sheepies and the kids loved feeding them corn stalk leaves and watching them. Sheepies!!! Anyway, next year is YES to Pumpkins and sheepies and NO to the maze.

I love that the farm is totally flat, making it easy to park and walk around. Seeing and hearing the baby and mama sheep was a delight. There is also a corn maze located toward the back of the property. The maze is a cool attraction but I have to agree with another recent review, it really isn't a maze at all. It truly is a circle or a lap, like taking a lap around the park. It's not challenging or engaging, it's just a muddy lap through the corn field. Spend your time with the sheep and the pumpkins & skip the maze.

Walking in at 9AM, they had plenty of prepicked pints on a table and also an entire field of strawberries available for U-Pick. Pricing is actually cheaper for the pre-picked pints, but I assume that's because U-Pick means you're eating while picking as well. Red Berry Barn grows three types of strawberries on their farm. Firstly, probably 30-40 rows of Hoods, then some Shuksans, and finally the ever popular (for farmers, given the day-neutral designation) Albion. It's actually quite easy telling the three apart. The Hoods are overgrown, barely kept organized into rows, with lighter color leaves hiding all of the strawberry red deliciousness hiding underneath. The Shuksans in the center, are the tallest of the plants, with striking dark green foliage. The Albions in the last rows look almost emaciated, with small leaves barely able to support the ample stock of strawberries growing from them. Red Berry Barn doesn't have any particular system for organized picking unlike some other U-Pick farms. Most the field was flush with berries, so we just wandered around wherever we wanted to pick the strawberries. We went here specifically to purchase and pick Hoods. The strawberries here aren't like those of other farms. For some reason, the Hoods are much larger, perhaps 3-4x the size of other Hoods, but still with the protruding cap. The outer shell is also quite a bit harder than the typical soft Hood. The taste isn't the same either, being still sweet and plump with good strawberry fragrance, but missing some of the perfumy quality an excellent Hood has from some of the non U-Pick farms. The skin is also much firmer - usually Hoods only last a day or two before going bad due to how delicate their skins are, but on Day 2, these strawberries were still firm. I have no idea if it's the terroir or the growing and fertilizer regimen fed to the strawberries or not. The Shuksans didn't seem to be ready at the time we visited. I tried a couple that looked ripe on the plants, but they were still mostly hard and tasted like sour water. The Albions, however, were among the best Albions I've had, at least the most ripe ones which consist of perhaps only 5% of the crop. They're super sweet and almost reach Hood levels of perfumy quality but with a different taste. Most Albions, however, basically taste like cold storage grocery store strawberries. Just to hammer it in more - the best of the everbearing and/or day neutral varieties like Albion can be great, but on average, they are worse than June-bearing varieties! Albion especially I think is built for shelf life thanks to the waxy coat on the exterior and the firm interior. We ended up buying a half flat of Hoods to save us some time, and picked up a $16 basket that probably fit around 3-4 pints of strawberries. Red Berry Farm derinitely does in a pinch to get some fresh strawberries. I don't think their Hoods are as good as from other farms, but they're still miles better than any grocery store strawberry.
