First time here. I only ordered the smoothie. I would definitely order it again and try an alternative milk instead of dairy. The drink was simple and sweet. The restaurant was fairly busy around 11am on a Saturday. It did not take too long for my drink, just under 10 minutes. They had newspapers available to read, so I read that in the meantime. I selected a pancake combo but it only comes with 1 egg huh? Customer service here is friendly. The environment is too loud, my guess is that there is a small place with too many seating arrangements. DON'T, let me repeat DO NOT ORDER the pancakes, the are manufacturer by Rubbermaid, you read right. These pancakes are VERY rubbery and so HARD just to cut in. I rarely eat out any more due to budgetary constraints, but when the new team I just joined at work wanted to meet up here for lunch I wanted to make a good impression as a good teammate. Thanks to the high prices here at this gas station adjacent hovel, and the server who took our food orders and delivered the check, that backfired magnificently. I found the most affordable item on the menu I could, asked the server "Is it ok if I just get the $3 fruit cup?", and then enjoyed it as slowly as I could so as not to be finished and sitting there awkwardly as the others partook of their full meals. When the check came my $3 fruit cup had magically turned into a $4.55 fruit cup, and when I mentioned the mistake to the server he pretended like the over 50% markup for getting it without a main dish was something I should have known about. When I replied that he could have mentioned that before I agreed to buy the item, rather than apologizing for the misunderstanding like any decent person in the customer service industry would do when they clearly failed to provide accurate information, he began walking away as he briefly mumbled something about restaurant policy that I couldn't even hear well because he was walking away. I chose to be diplomatic and not escalate the situation, so now my team is torn between thinking I wussed out and that I made too big of a deal out of nothing. (yet not one of them who scoffed at me for being so petty offered to help cover the difference.) It's not about the money, it's about being swindled and then humiliated for noticing. Hobee's has been a favorite place to grab breakfast for many years. The service is very friendly always and the food options are always great. They've got a bunch of favorites but always have interesting specials to try as well. I love the very polarizing cinnamon tea and always get it. And it wouldn't be breakfast at Hobee's without at least a few bites of coffee cake. If you haven't been to Hobee's, get there for a great breakfast with a family atmosphere. The food at Hobee's is always good. The coffee cake is great as is the sweet potato hash. For breakfast, you can never really go wrong. HOWEVER, the service is very touch and go at all Hobee's and my most recent experience is certainly a testament. Service was painfully slow and I had to ask a busboy (who didn't understand anything I said) and several other wait staff for the opportunity to order, the check, and a box. Not like I was in a rush either, the meal took about 1 hour and was just 2 people. This location is in a questionable neighborhood, too, so it is not like the nicer location in Palo Alto. read more

But if you want a steak, chicken, or turkey dinner, go to Denny's down the street I stayed at the Larkspur Landing hotel next door. Since this was an easy walk, and 3.5 on stars on yelp, supposedly similar to Black Bear Diner I thought why not? I wanted simple meat protein - steak, roast chicken or fried chicken, or turkey dinner. I just didn't feel like having breakfast, Mexican, or the pasta dishes. I settled on the plain hamburger. It was a bit on the pricey side which was $12 with hash browns. No fries as an option, one option was black beans, I forget the other. The hamburger with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and mayo was good, but the hash browns wasn't. Some of the potato squares were not cooked. Why don't they offer fries? For $12 for a 1/3 pound burger, it wasn't a bad deal. But I think I would've preferred a McDonald's quarter pounder meal deal at half the price. The wait person was good. However, I was traveling alone, and the host said sit in any of these inside tables right next to the wall. I thought no problem, they're probably expecting families to sit next to the window. I got there at 6:00 PM, and when I left at 6:45 PM, there was hardly anyone there. One guy came in after, also from the hotel next door. The host tried to seat him in front of me, but he said he wanted to sit by the window. I should've done the same thing. Being from the OC, I rarely see any restaurant near empty at 6 PM, peak dining time. In closing, as a person that dines out 4 times a week on average, I think they need to tweak their menu to have more classic American dishes, and let people sit where they want when it's not busy. I think their prices are probably not family friendly. When it's not busy on the busiest dining night of the week, somethings need improving. read more

My family and I have been coming to Hobee's since I was a child. The red, white and blue shakes, their scrambles, country potatoes their delicious coffee cake and their breakfast sandwich 2.0 is my absolute favorite!! Love that they also have plenty of vegetarian options for my sister and always a yummy menu for the kids. Aside from the food they have great service. Super sweet and attentive staff especially their general manager Melissa! She is an absolute sweetheart to all her customers and treats her staff with warmth and respect. They get pretty busy on the weekends but Melissa and her team handle everything with grace and a smile. First time I had the French toast and that was actually pretty good, I'd give that a 4/5. Also the Mexican mocha was pretty good too. The eggs and turkey sausage it came with was just ok. The next day I came back and got the Cinnamon Bun Pancakes, a side of hash brown, and bacon. I was expecting the Cinnamon bun to have more icing and actually taste more like a cinnamon bun. They had icing on the top but the other 2 pancakes were just regular in my opinion. They are pretty big tho so portion size is definitely not a problem here. I just expected more flavor I suppose. Hashbrowns are totally flavorless, no salt, just taste like straight potatoes. You def will need ketchup or something to spruce it up. Bacon was great tho, and crunchy. Their famous blueberry coffee cake is alright. It's not too sweet so anybody could eat this, it does pair well with coffee and is pretty huge at $3.50, not bad. I used to really enjoy this place. Really good burgers, sandwiches, and benedicts. Coffee cake is huge but hit or miss on the specials when it comes to flavor. Service had been good in previous occasions, but the last few times seemed a bit slow. However, today was the worst. We came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast. I ordered the Chilequiles without reading the reviews, and it was a complete disappointment. It was the sort of thing I would expect in a box at Taco Bell: super salty, cheap tortilla chips. All the chips were soggy and not crunchy at all. It basically tasted like eating a red salsa mush. On top of that, the toast came completely unbuttered with no butter on the side. Our waitress rarely came out to check on us, so we never got the opportunity to ask for any. As it was, the service was so poor, we waited about 10min before getting refills of coffee or iced tea -- even after we asked. We watched as the waitress also failed to serve other tables near us, and other patrons were left waiting, unable to flag down the waitress because she disappeared for long periods of time. It is a shame because this had been the breakfast place I would take family from out of town, but now I think we need to find a new place with much better service and consistency. read more

I was looking for vegan breakfast options on Happy Cow and this place came up. I got the tofu scramble with toast and avocado. It was a fair option. Definitely lacked some salt, but maybe that's why it's on the table lol. Very cute and cozy inside. My partner got a special benidict(I can't remember the name) with garlic browns. He LOVED it!!! He also got a piece of blueberry coffee cake to go. I had to try the cran-apple mimosa and wasn't disappointed. Very tasty and cute presentation. Me favorite diner of all time. I come here s lot with family and friends visiting from out of town. With the extensive menu and amazing coffee cake, you're sure to find something to eat. There's plenty of seating so it's great for large groups. This place is particularly busy in weekends. The bottomless cup of coffee is enjoyable as well. I opted for Gigi's Benedict and was very happy with my brunch. The egg is always poached perfectly and the sauce is wonderful. This particular dish comes with bacon on baguette slices to revamp the traditional Benedict and the result is wonderful. The coffee cake is consistently great. So fluffy and tall! Like how I like my men? They always have blueberry and will alternate in a different flavor of the season. Service is always friendly and very nice as I take awhile to make a commitment to an order. Do not eat at this establishment if you expect the management to be concerned about the well-being of your health. We went on a Sunday morning and was sat in a booth. Our waitresses were very nice. Our food came quick. They say a family directly behind us in the booth . Not following any type of social distancing guidelines. In addition the child had a ongoing cough the parents didn't seem to care or have her cover her mouth. We expressed our concern to the waitress because they clearly had medication on the table. So not sure how they were allowing patrons to come in with active symptoms. The waitress told the manager and she said there was nothing he can do but WE could move. We ended up speaking with the manger and he said as far as he was aware people only need to wear masks indoors if they're not eating. This manager should be fired for exposing the public and not caring about their patrons. read more

It's July 2021 and I am traveling from Southern California, where I had to be Covid-tested because of a recent outbreak in my community (where there has been a 20-fold increase in Covid over the last 30 days). I roll up on Hobee's and the door has a sign that reads: Social distancing and masks - NOT REQUIRED For unvaccinated people, social distancing and masks - RECOMMENDED Excuse me?! I am still in the state of California where MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL UNVACCINATED PEOPLE. Signs like this lead to confusion and create an unsafe environment. I did my best not to bring Delta variant with me to the Bay Area, but ya'll need to help yourselves by avoiding restaurants that skirt the few protections we have left (including a ***statewide requirement*** that unvaccinated individuals ***must mask***). Fix your sign Hobee's so I can see if your omelettes are as good as I remember them. read more

I ordered the sweet potato hash w a side of the famous coffee cake. The coffee cake is definitely a 5 star experience but I have to give the restaurant a 3-4 overall. Service was solid and my friends' loved their food. I was really disappointed w my sweet potato hash. It was super greasy and the poached eggs must've lost their yolks in process cause there was barely any yolk to break on my hash. Also the addition of blue cheese w sweet potatoes is an odd flavor choice. I love me some blue cheese but it didn't work well with this dish. The bacon mixed in the has was not crispy either which created a funky texture issue for me. It might as well have been ham at that point. I ended up focusing my attention on the coffee cake and could barely make a dent in it so be prepared folks. It's a glorious amount of cake.
