I would like to give them a zero rating. I was gonna customer for a while always happy with everything. But we did get two items that when we opened did not work properly from the first usage. When I went back to exchange, they informed me that they never take any refunds or exchanges ever. So unfortunately, they do not stand by their products I've got similar things from Amazon that are been opened and were refunded it. we like to support small business Which is why we go there but Unfortunately they do not stand by their products and or exchange or return anything or even talk to you nicely about it. I really try to support local business - and in this case the local hobby shop. At Hobbytown USA the range of products is wonderful...but the service by the staff is lackadaisical. Dropped in at 10:30am on a Wednesday - two employees in the store and one customer other than me. Came in looking for something really simple - and it really doesn't matter what - never talked to anyone. You would think as soon as you hit the door someone would say, "Hi, can I help you?" or "Be right with you." or "Good morning, be right there." ... at Hobbytown I got nothing. One employee was working with the only other customer ... the second employee came out from the back and hopped on the cash register or internet - probably looking up something. I went and stood in front of him and he totally ignored me - could have said "Be right there." or a million other things but didn't. I stood there with my thumb up my butt for a minute or so and just moved on. I could not find what I wanted on my own after going up and down the aisles, so I just left the store. I have to agree with the other reviewer that had the same experience - this place could have it all if it had a staff that actually showed a bit of service orientation. I have bought several rc cars from here! A few days ago I got a car and it wouldn't work. They refused to exchange it for me. I don't want to fix a car that is damaged from the beginning. I've been here multiple times because my grandson loves the place. The employees are courteous helpful and most of all let you browse without bothering you. On the other hand if you need anything they are there to help and spot on. They have a great repair service and all the parts. I brought in hobby equipment to get looked at. The manager looked at it and complained about how he had to work on it. He wasn't friendly and made me feel bad about bringing something in for an "expert" opinion. If you live in the area, I recommend going somewhere else. Leisure hours is nice. I went into the hobby store in Orland Park on 94th Ave and Wheeler. The first guy I came across what nice to deal with. He didn't know my answer so he passed me on to the next guy. I spoke with him because I do not know or know the correct item I was looking for. He probably shouldn't be working on the sales floor. He was very short with me, told me if I pick the wrong item it will short out and burn my house down, and told me back in highschool he took 3 year of electronics ( that was probably over 30 plus years ago). He know what he is talking about.. that great and all but I was the customer and he was the expert.That couldn't troubleshoot my problem. So I guess those 3 years didn't pay off!! He was NO help and he his attitude was horrible!!! He went back to the sales counter. My wife and I left and won't every be B-A-C-K!!! I had a somewhat unique issue with a usb wire that connected a gun for my Big Buck HD Arcade. It needed a little solder, and although this shop is more for RC, etc, I heard they do some minor soldering, so I brought it in. The gentleman behind the counter saw the issue and said he would give it a try. His soldering skills were excellent and he fixed the issue in the cable. The staff was willing to lend a hand even though my issue was outside their typical wheelhouse. Highly recommended. read more

I really try to support local business - and in this case the local hobby shop. At Hobbytown USA, the range of products is wonderful...but when your front door advertises Train repairs then maybe some type of attempt should be made. I dropped off a vintage train on 3/15/2017 and the enthusiastic employee, Ron Barber said they fix trains all the time in a timely manner. Two weeks later, No return phone calls to give an idea on what to expect for this repair. I waited a few more days, then finally when into the store only to find my unit in the same spot it was left. But with other items stacked on top of this 1961 train set. In my opinion, NO ONE even looked at it and no commentary notes were on the sheet that was on top. The owner said he would look online to find a possible fix. I feel this place really only relies on sales which after reading past posts I concur. I just picked up my trains that once again were in the same spot with more crap piled up on top of it. NEVER AGAIN....for anything. read more

Both my husband and father-in-law frequent this hobby store. Not just cause of the RC selection but because of the excellent and knowledgeable staff. They always check to see if you need help and will even suggest where to buy things that they don't carry or offer to order them for you. I also have purchased models, liquid latex, resin, epoxy other art supplies from them. I hope they start to carry even more stuff in their art department. I highly suggest going here and supporting a small business over buying online if you can. Great people to do business with! read more

After leaving Space Golf, my husband asked my 10 year old son did he want to see what they had inside. My family and I browsed mainly the front aisle where the kids toys and candy were. Not even 5 mins were we there. We picked out some candy and proceeded to check out. As i was placing everything in the counter, the cashier was rude and walked away. She then to the end of the counter and helped another customer who JUST walked in the door. Steve the owner comes to the front and my husband began conversation with him and even complimented him for having a nice store. Me being confused, I told Steve that the cashier walked away while we were trying to check out. He claims he wasn't sure why but 10 seconds later while ringing us up asked my son what he slipped in his pockets. He Accused my 10 year old of stealing. Which he didn't. We were in front of the cashier the ENTIRE time. He was so scared and caught off guard. How dare you accuse a child when BOTH his parents are standing right there??? He then Admitted that's why the girl walked away and he came out. I would have preferred he asked the ADULTS who were standing right there. You don't do that to a kid. Since I came back to the hobby I was pretty much daily customer in this hole. Finally I Bought a truck there and was overcharged $20, when I noticed the mistake and asked for refund, I was told if I spend another 100 they will give me 20 off (not right at all, who does the business like that?). Also I wanted a new truck not the display with protective foil taken off, and crack in the body, looks like they used curbside pickup to clear their display/used stuff. Didn't expected that since they sealed the box, poorly but I gave them benefit of the doubt. Then next time I bought the small airplane, turned out to have major issues, couldn't take off at all. when brought it back, this a-hole that calls him self a manager told me that I can't pay $90 and expect it to fly it. I replied, so you telling me that you sell airplanes that don't fly? To what he replied, if I question him, he will not process the refund. When he finally processed the refund in the end, I told him there is no reason to get mad, just stand by the product you are selling... Threw a receipt at me. Very rude manager. Steve O or whatever his name is, both situations handled by him. Ridiculous, so disappointing. Since then I go to Leisure Hours hobbies and Walt's Hobby Shop. Spent couple grand in these stores already since then, Awesome stores, much better selection too. Also bought the airplane there for 70 that flies beautifully, got so addicted to it that next day I went in and bought 2 more airplanes for me and 3 for my kids.. Was skeptical about the service I would get here when I read the Yelp reviews. I went in looking for a Traxxas RC. I've never had one and thought it would be something fun to do. I am probably not your typical RC car person that walks in here either. I have a friend who made a list of "must haves" for the car I picked out. The kid that helped me was friendly and answered all my questions. He was patient too- I had no idea about RC cars. He even talked me down from a car that probably would have been over the top for a newbie- which I really appreciated (and saved me a couple hundred bucks). I left with a new car and my buddy said they gave me good advice and chose the right accessories for me. I will return. read more

Bought a Defective Traxxas Nitro 4x4 brand new for 600$ less then 3 weeks ago and all I've been dealing with is a Headache. Neither the store owner or the Company wants to deal with this defective product and the only results i got was " sorry sir we didn't build this". I have paid and replaced 6 major components on this LEMON RC and until today 3rd week it still doesn't run. I gave up after the owner wanted to hand me a USED Remote to replace the perfectly non working defective one that he sold me. Every company that i ever dealt with stood behind the product they sold except FOR HOBBYTOWN they no this item is bad and did nothing about it. He made it seem like he was doing me a favor everytime i walked in there. Funny part is 1000 dollars and three weeks later this TRAXXAS piece of junk is sitting in my garage collecting dust because it doesn't run. BUT thanks Steve for RIPPING me off and NOT coming out to fix the problem. I will make sure the news gets out about the poor customer service and DEFECTIVE products you sell and don't warranty. I needed some lipo batteries for my new Stampede 4x4 VXL and didn't want to buy online and wait for shipping. Plus, its always good to support your local hobby shop. The employees I dealt with were friendly and cool. Cracked a couple of jokes and we had a few laughs. They helped me find what I was looking for and another employee took the time out to look up info on the computer about gearing ratios for my onroad Tamiya TT-01 since he had one too. He didn't have to do that but did anyways. Very cool. The store is big, well stocked with lots of parts from many many different manufacturers, and they have two small tracks in back. One carpeted onroad, and one small crawling course. I felt like a kid in a big toy store, which is what it kind of is for us big kids...lol I'll be back for more parts in the future. read more

I've been into the R/C hobby for a very long time. The reason I'm giving this place such a high rating is because the owners have given me the opportunity to ignite the Kyosho Mini-z scale. The store is plenty huge and working with them, an indoor mini-z track has been put into place with fantastic parts support. Most shops you talk to will tell you to get lost or "what's in it for them?". They welcomed us with open arms and we're all having a blast. read more

DONT GET SCREWED LIKE US I have spent over 4000 dollars at this hobby store and they treat me like crap I had part ordered by them waited 4 weeks I asked them where it was and they said oh we didn't order it because as a merchant they had to spent 500$ every time they order why didn't they say that when they said they will order it in the first place I had a nitro that I took in because it would not start they said the will not look at it because they did not sell that model It turned out that the air/fuel valves need adjustment and a charged glow igniter they refused to check either one even though on nitro models that they DO sell the starting process is the same I also had a car in for a repair they made me order the part myself and bring it in the part cost me 40$ they charged 40$ to get it fixed it was a easy fix that took them 3-4 days when something similar done by me took 2 hours they charge me 40 dollars and took there time doing it I had my nitro taken to a different hobby store in Joliet they fixed the pull starter in 2 days while a basic repair at hobby town took 2 weeks Also the owner offered me some parts for my newly purchased vehicle and made it seem like he was giving them to me for free the then charge me 35-40 dollars that hurt my feelings I came in to ask about a vehicle that was being fixed the owner that accused me of something stupid also went to go buy a scx10 kit which they said sold a day before a went to purchase it they never restocked it I bought from the other store in Joliet I gave them a vehicle to fix they proceeded to take it apart told me it will cost 100-200 dollars to get fixed the car cost 185$ they refused to put it back together at that time I was 10 so I didn't know how to fix it myself I also brought in my rc boat that was not getting up to full speed all they did was bypass the on/off switch and left it at that also WOMAN at the hobby store is extremely rude and seems to watch customers every move I have had it with this store I am 15 and they treat me like crap along with my mom I done here never again After all that money me and my mom spent we were planning on getting and XO-1 and SCX10II but went to the other hobby store I AM DONE WITH HOBBY TOWN read more

The owner basically called my son "Hey You" in front of others and said loudly " Did you post a review ? etc" The owner didn't believe it wasn't us so continued to berate my son and me by showing me the review on his computer. He basically threatened us that if we put a review up about recent negative experiences there, then he wouldn't give us our product back that is in for repairs. Wether it was our review or not, Any owner of a store should not be unprofessional and threaten a customer due to facts of honesty of their experience there, especially to a minor. We have been fair in our requests for repair services to products, yet the owner used intimidation and bullying to evade the truth of factual information that we have not been treated correctly by some of his staff, himself and woman co owner. An occurrence occurred months prior to this experience as well where my son was talked to by the owner in a very argumentative, condescending tone of voice about how my son left his battery plugged in when brought in for a repair. For an adult man to speak to a minor in this way, they should not be in the business of Hobbies where kids are present and trying to learn about a hobby and looking up to personnel to assist in the knowledge of said hobby. We continued to shop there but the latest incidents are the last straw. We are fair people and there are a few knowledgeable personnel there, but the bad outweighs the good as seen in both owners. read more

I've been shopping with Steve, Kim, Pierce and the guys at HobbyTown USA for a while now and just wanted to tell everyone first off what nice people they are, and two, that they really provide great customer service and are not just looking to make a buck. I've brought my son in to purchase models and Steve has steered me away from the more expensive stuff to something in a skill range my son could actually do, and offered to evaluate it upon completion. This gave my son the confidence he needed and eventually he did purchase the more expensive model - when he and his skills were ready. Also, there have been times when my son has tried to "fix" his RC aircraft and Pierce or Steve would show him where he went wrong and re-fixed the problem for him, just to show him how to do it himself for the next time. This was true when I was in the market for an RC plane as well - Steve didn't try to sell me the higher priced item, he sold me something to match my son's skill level so that he wouldn't get discouraged. What a great way to run a business!!! We've bought 2 more planes since that time, and each one has been a good investment for my son (and husband - great dad/son bonding time!) In addition, Kim has always gone out of her way for me to special order trains and things for Christmas and birthdays. While I don't know every staff member's name, I can say that every one over there takes their time with the customer and makes them feel special. I just want to say "job well done" and I really don't take my hobby business anywhere else any more because of the fantastic customer service and selection of items provided at HobbyTown USA in Orland Park, IL. I actually found the staff very helpful. I bought a Losi ten-t without the dx3s radio on ebay. Car sat here for a year cause the radio was so expensive back then. Didn't even know if it ran. Finally bit the bullet and bought the radio from these guys. Not only did they bind all my electronics properly to the car. They brought it out to the parking lot where even after sitting for who knows how long, it started right up and ran great! If they didn't have an answer to my question, they called tech support to get one. Thanks guys. The car is still running great! read more

The amount of products this one has seems a little sparse. But furthermore, the staff may be among the rudest I have ever had to deal with. I went in, was looking at a helicopter. One guy was really helpful. Unfortunately he is the most knowledgeable and had to go answer another question. The woman though....she really pissed me off and had me second guessing my purchase. I was looking at the box and she was watching me like a hawk! Then I said I was deciding and she laughed and said "oh I see" in a condescending way. Then I asked for the price on the battery and she kinda looked all surprised I asked her to do something. She was not friendly at all. In fact, it seems there is just that one guy who knows about the products and they all ask him questions. And if you aren't there to spend big money, you are their last priority. Unfortunately, it is easier to get parts from here than waiting for UPS to bring them, so I will probably have the misfortune of going here again. I guess thats how they stay in business.... read more
