I'm extremely disappointed with the level of customer service I received. I placed an order two weeks ago and was told it would take up to one week to arrive. After waiting beyond the expected timeframe, I called once to check on the status of my order. Instead of receiving assistance, the person on the phone seemed irritated that I was simply asking for an update. I am not asking for free parts or special treatment -- I am paying for my items. As a customer, it is completely reasonable to expect clear communication and respectful service, especially when an order is delayed. It's frustrating to feel like I'm inconveniencing staff by checking on something I paid for. I drive 30-40 minutes to support this store and was even planning to purchase a new X-Maxx, but after this experience, I've decided not to move forward with that purchase. For comparison, I've had consistently positive experiences at HobbyTown, where the staff is helpful, respectful, and willing to assist customers -- especially those who are newer to the hobby. That level of professionalism makes a big difference and is the reason I'm more inclined to continue spending my money there. Customer service matters. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, because the way customers are treated directly impacts whether they return or take their business elsewhere. read more

Visited from out of state and found a well stocked, organized, and very busy hobby shop. And found a model that supposedly is only licensed for sale in Europe, so that purchase was a pleasant surprise. May not be a return customer, but I'm very happy to have visited. read more

Way over priced. You can get everything online anyways. Everytime I go into this store the people have an attitude. I think their policy is to assume everyone is stealing something until you buy something. Everything is "don't touch" but they don't put up any sign saying don't touch. None of their displays work. I bought a Traxxas Stampede 4x4 from them online for my son for Christmas. Hobby Works was one of the only places that had it in stoc, and they had a very good price on it. When it arrived, it was missing some tools and had a broken shock cap, not their fault, it came like that from the factory. I contacted HobbyWorks customer service, and they replied to me the same day... Christmas Day! They shipped me out a set of tools and a new set of anodized caps because they didn't have a replacement shock! These guys are awesome and I highly recommend purchasing from them! read more

These guys are awesome! There was a mix up in filling my order so I contacted them by email and received a response almost immediately. Mike was so understanding and helpful. He called other hobby shops to locate the item that was missing from my order and found one near my location. He informed me that the other shop would ship a.s.a.p. and he would send me the tracking info. I'll tell you, it was refreshing to do business with honest and caring owners, as that has, unfortunately disappeared in most businesses. A big shout out to Mike for all his help! I went there to buy some batteries for an RC car. Drove about 15 or 20 miles. I get there, the door is locked 3 or 4 people inside standing right by the door obviously they work there. They see me trying to get in but don't even give me the time of day. I assume they were only allowing a certain number in the store at a time for Covid. Covid was winding down so I wasn't sure. I made eye contact with a few of them as I tried to open the door, they all ignored me like F.U. I stood there maybe 30 sec. to see if someone would open the door and say wait or something. They all just ignored me and continued on with the conversation between themselves. I left and I vow never to go back there again. They indicated F.U. to me so I say F.U. to them. I always tried to support local store fronts. This place doesn't need my support. I ordered my Batteries online. read more

Very cool store. Models ranging from $7.00 to $300 of all kinds.Planes,ships, cars, and trains...you name it they probably have a model for it. Make and Model also matters. We're taking note of this place because this is a great place to get Christmas gifts for the smart kids in your family. Puzzles and creative toys are always a good choice for the smarty kids (and adults) and this is definitely a good place for it. Ladies if you are not feeling like you want to talk nerdy. It is truly the last all around Hobby Shop in the Baltimore region and they have a good selection of what you would expect to find . . . and a great selection of the unusual stuff you never knew existed. I'm fairly new to the RC Plane hobby, and I'm very happy that I found this shop... they are very friendly and helpful. They have a decent inventory of planes, copters and vehicles, typically what you would find at Horizon Hobby's website, and they carry spare parts and repair products for the RC items they carry. They also carry various other stuff, like metal detectors, slot cars and train sets. I like to support local businesses when practical, but they seldom can compete with the ease, convenience and price of the internet, but this shop prices their items to compete, and it's great to have their experience and knowledge available to help make the right purchase decision. It's nice to drive home with my purchase instead of waiting for the item to arrive in the mail, while hoping that the item arrives as described. read more

I canceled my pre-order for the new arrma voteks from Horizon Hobby because the hobby works site had it cheaper only to have my order canceled. They said it was a mistake and should not have been on the site and that it was in store only. I explained that it was a present for my daughter and I canceled my pre order from Horizon and now they are on backorder so I'm not able to get the product from them. I offered to pay for shipping and was told that a local customer called the store and wanted to buy the item I already bought so basically I am completely out of luck. read more

Great store. Scott and staff are extremely knowledgeable and can order almost anything in 3-4 days. They will only allow 8 people in the store at a time, and you must use a mask or they will ask you to leave. They are not open everyday so call before you go. Amazing customer service. Had a rough day and ended up at this shop, spent an hour looking at gundam kits and supplies and while it wasn't busy I was helped any time I had a question. They carry a ton of Tamiya supplies and paints without the crazy upcharge like other places. If they didn't carry something in stock they were willing to order it right away. If I lived closer to the shop I'd be here every weekend. Thanks for the help you guys, I'll be sure to make the hour trip to visit and splurge on myself often here. read more

I stopped in to possibly buy a few of the supporting products I would need for an RC car, and I asked the store manager two questions about compatibility. He immediately began to talk down to me about how I should have done my research (which ironically is exactly what I was doing by asking). He then moved into an attempt at scolding me for purchasing the product online as opposed to his store. This was baffling behavior if you believe in A.) Capitalism B.) Nobody is entitled to just HAVE your hard earned money/business without earning it, and C.) perhaps he could have shown basic decency as well as good customer service by simply answering my questions in a kind and informative way, which likely would have earned him a new customer. I likely would have purchased the expensive hobby components, and told other potential customers how I appreciated his assistance. Instead, I have to write this unfortunate bad review, & tell others what they already know: they are better buying online than patronizing this brick & mortar store with the poor attitude. read more

When I was a kid I had many hobbies and interest. I loved miniatures of everything from model planes, model trains, model cars, model rockets to model boats, all creating a little world that I controlled an imitation of adult life. So places like hobby stores allow me to dream of one day living the adult adventures tale, as I grew a little older I found building models to be an artistic medium much like painting on canvas. I no longer build models no time or patience to try to put that ship in a bottle. Remote controlled cars, airplanes, helicopters, boats, always held my interest even to this day I guess I still have an inner child in me. So why not these things are really cool lots of fun. If I am handed a remote control to something you will see a big smile form on my face and I'm having a blast I deserve to have some fun. And Hobby Works is one of those types of places to find all of you inner kid. Lots of things here to keep someone occupied young and old alike but not too young. Hobby Works have mostly models but they have and a number of remote controlled helicopters, planes, cars etc mostly for young-ins cause the prices on those are not that expensive. People have spent thousands of dollars for the real deal remote controlled vehicles those are the ones you don't want you Lil tike playing with. However I did not see any of those expensive grown people toys there. Great selection of models large and very very small again aimed more at older kids or adults. So really this place is for people who hobbies include building and painting scale models miniatures this is not for little ones, that's why Toys R Us had been invented. So go ahead take a look around the staff there is encouraging and helpful. Admire their models that they have on display cause it is a real art form. One that demands attention to detail, patience and a zen like peaceful state that comes with putting one of these little works of art together. They also carry a nice line of wood and marble chess/checker game sets and other items such as model paint, books and everything that you would need for this type of hobby. We own two quadcopters (Proto X FPV and a Blade 350 QX3), and both needed repair. One needed a simple sodering job because the wire got loose, and the other had two random cracks that seemed dangerous and wanted to see if we could get repaired. The first trip we only took the Proto X, which needed sodering. This was a Monday. They said that the guy who does sodering only comes Wednesday-Sunday. The man was very polite. The second trip we took both, and explained our issues with both of them. This was a Thursday. There was one guy who tried to sell us the part (really marked up compared to online by the way) without actually repairing it (which involved removing the entire body and replacing several different parts at the same time; something we are not experienced with nor have the tools for). This particular guy when we were explaining the coincidental cracks in the drone (which ACTUALLY could have been shipping damage; since it was brand new) very rudely pulled out his drone and said the following, "I've had this drone for three years and I haven't crashed it, I only took the body off to paint it." So heres the thing with that: the drone in question had never crashed. Overall, terrible service. I would not recommend this shop. read more

I ordered 2 lego sets on Amazon from Hobby Works. We ordered a Titanic lego set and a US Navy ship, Missouri also. They shipped promptly and the set was great! I contacted them recently because we misplaced the building manuals for them both and Mike at Hobby Works was extremely helpful and mailed them out free of charge and even emailed me with a tracking number. I highly recommend them not only for their products but for their amazing customer service! We will be shopping for more Lego ships with them soon :) read more

This is an excellent little shop for trains, remote controlled vehicles, kites, models, and model rockets. I have also bought toys, and balsa wood and glue for projects there. Service is great, although a little more focused on the RC vehicles these days. Last Christmas eve they did an emergency solder repair on a train controller for me - free! Wonderful hobby shop. These little shops are a dying breed in the age of Amazon and online retailers. This is a good old fashioned hobby shop that has it all....the kind of neighborhood hobby shop where most of us got our first plastic scale model or train set. The staff is knowledgeable and will let kids browse and play with the flight simulators all day. Used to spend hours here with my oldest son who is now a college freshman...but I have a 10 year old so I still have an excuse to hang out here. I understand that they will be expanding soon to ...do STEM activities and Robotics in the adjacent space. read more

I went there today at four o'clock today. The store itself was nice neat and orderly. I could find everything myself...reason being the customer service was non existent. I walked around this store for twenty minutes and not one store employee out of the three that I saw there ever offered to help me. It's not like the store was jammed packed or busy but two walked past me and never acknowledged me. The store is SOOO cool. I walked in to get a gift for christmas and immediately was excited at all the options. The STAFF was not friendly or helpful or knowledgable about their own products and I felt more bushed off than welcomed. I went to the store and Rockville and brought the exact item I wanted from a friendly knowledgeable staff. Its a shame the Mangers at Laurel (which is in my neighborhood) Joe and Amanda needs to be trained in the art of customer service. read more

The only reason why I give it an one star rating is because of the tech! He was helpful. Don't spend your money or your time! The staff is uneducated and uninterested in your needs! Unless you are stealing something! Don't bother to bring your children! They will make you and your children uncomfortable. They seem more interested in each other! There is one guy with glasses who rather look at you and be in your business instead of helping you. He likes to insult people as well. The staff will walk away from you when you are trying to make a purchase! The staff will talk about other hobby works locations negatively in front of the customers! I recommend the Rockville location. They are willing to help you and seemed interested in what you are looking for even if they are uneducated in what you are looking for.
