I live in Gaithersburg MD and drove up here in a quest for simple craft fabric. Having been frustrated with closing of JoAnns and ground my teeth through Michael's finding new and creative ways to serve up disappointing customer service I was GOBSMACKED to find this Hobby Lobby! It was clean, well organized, and well stocked with good quality materials at a good price point. Moreover staff were not only available in the aisles they actually knew their stock and when they didn't they summoned help that quickly appeared with answers. AND (no I'm not stopping yet) staff were pleasant and did not treat me like an unfortunately necessary burden to tolerate on the way to break. I left with exactly what I needed, a big smile, and a reminder that positive brick and mortar shopping experiences still exist. Perhaps one just needs to get outside of Montgomery County? Just received our brand new tree and needed some decor! There was a 40% off sale going on and so glad I took advantage of this great deal. This Hobby Lobby is open and fully functioning right now even though we are only in phase 1 of opening due to covid. Lots of furniture is on sale so if you were eyeing anything before the closure it's probably reduced now. Store was pretty empty and was stocked well. They carry LOTS of home decor. Lots of farmhouse style decor and a lot of religious decor. They have a nice fabric selection as well. Pretty much any type of crafting that you're into they have what you're looking for. Every week they discount one specialty area 50% so check online weekly to see if what you want is on sale that week. I really enjoy Hobby Lobby. My wallet however, not so much. You can count on this location to be organized, generally well stocked, and generally low traffic (surprising bc of how INSANE every other corporate business is in the area.) My only complaint I can even conjure is how slow check out often is. Sometimes it amazes me how three cashiers can be working with two people at each line, and you'll still be there a good while. I will never ever shop at hobby lobby again. The only reason why I here today is to find some foam block my sister needed for a project. As I walked around in the store I kept noticing the man picture in the orange shirt following me. At first I thought maybe it was a coincidence but then every where I turned he was there??? I finally said wow you're every where I am, he said yes and you will.. see me like déjà vu like Wth. That was confirmation that he was watching and following me. I bought an LP frame here at the Laurel Maryland store that (apparently) had a stressed area in it. When I unwrapped it from the plastic when ready to use, the glass simply cracked. I did not have a receipt, and I suspect that it got into my shred pile by mistake. :-) However, I was not concerned because of the store's exchange policy, or...so I thought. I had given this chain a LOT of business over the years in another State. Anyway, I brought the frame there for an exchange, and the cashier immediately called the manager on the phone. The manager promptly told her (without even looking at my item) "no exchanges without a receipt." PERIOD. I showed her the policy sign, and she showed me the disclaimer at the bottom that indicates it is up to store discretion to refuse return on "certain items" without a receipt. So, no exchange on defective items either? My item was not even looked at. I have been in retail and understand this policy to have an "out" for certain cases of refund/exchange (it IS needed). However, I could tell right away that the cashier was EXPECTING the manager to say no, and she had a ready answer for me. The cashier was very nice, by the way. She was just following orders. I am taking this to corporate because I was a GOOD customer at their Jackson MS store and it seems that the Laurel (Maryland City) store has gotten away with this for too long. read more

I come for the crafting supplies, but I stay for the home decor items. The store is huge, and when you can find an employee he or she is usually super helpful. My biggest gripe is the line. It does not matter what time of day you go to this Hobby Lobby, about fifteen people will be in line for some reason or another. I don't think I've ever gotten in and out of this store in less than fifteen minutes even if I was only grabbing one item. read more

I only scheduled 30 minutes to spend looking around the store, and that still was not enough for the first time. The staff is very friendly. Let me preface this review by stating if there was an option to rate this place a negative 5 stars, I would. I witnessed something terribly disturbing at the hobby lobby in Laurel, MD. A friend of mine (she's Caucasian) was shopping for baking supplies and happened to be conversing with a lovely black couple who was doing the same. A older white sales associate was staring the black couple down, even after they left the aisle. My friend asked her if there was something wrong, to which she replied "it's my job to make sure they're not stealing anything". My friend was taken aback and asked why she wasn't watching anyone else who was shopping. The associate turned to my friend and called her a "nigger lover". I mean really?! Is this happening right now?! My friend went straight to a manager and told him what happened and his initial response was to ask if she was sure it was an associate. As if the giant blue apron that says "hobby lobby" on the front wasn't obvious enough. He said he would "handle it" but I'm not sure if anything was done. I hope someone from corporate reads this post and immediately terminates this ignorant, trashy person. I WILL NOT BE SHOPPING HERE EVER AGAIN and I will do my best to spread this news all over social media until I'm assured something has been done. This is unacceptable. read more

She was exasperated with me and not really listening saying she did not know what i wanted. "Just look it up on the website ". Hobby Lobby is the King of the craft stores. I heard about Hobby Lobby from a super crafter I follow on Instagram and was relieved to find that there was a location not to far from me in Maryland. Upon walking in, I felt like I had died and arrived in crafters and decorators heaven. Aisle upon aisle is filled with beautiful home decor, lamps, furniture, flowers, beads, charms, and so much more. This store has everything my little creative heart could ever desire. It is impossible to walk out with just what I came in for. Thankfully, they always have a 40% coupon off one non-sale item available on the iPhone app. A lot of the jewelry I make now includes amazing beads from Hobby Lobby's large selection (I highly recommend the Fairy Tale collection of charms). The employees at this location are very sweet and can be very helpful when needed. The store is also kept very clean and organized. Perfect since I was doing heel clicks in the air as I was singing and dancing through the aisles. Yes, I love it that much, and that really happened. read more

I was introduced to this place by a friend of mine who is purchasing decorations for my wedding. She had some beautiful ideas for decorating the reception area. I've died and gone to arts and crafts heaven!!!! My coworker actually hipped me to this store and I'm oh soooo glad she did. This place is a Michael's, A.C. Moore, Homegoods and Party City all in one! My niece is having her Sweet 16 Birthday Party soon and I came in looking for some items for party favors and decorations. I ended up spending over an hour in this store just absorbing all of the cool ideas and fun items to purchase. In my travels I saw beautiful portraits, picture frames, party favors, any and every arts and crafts project you can imagine and of course seasonal items for Valentine's Day and Easter. My creative juices were flowing the entire time I was here, just thinking of all the projects I could create. I thought the prices were very reasonable and I saw so many decorative items that I've never seen before. Since the theme of my niece's party is hot pink and zebra print, I found the perfect items to create memorable party favors. (Note: I ran out of ribbon making the party favors and had to go to my local craft store and they didn't have the correct print. I sure wish I had purchased more at Hobby Lobby, especially since no one else seems to carry it.) My only wish is that the staff was more available and friendlier. I had questions about a few things, but I couldn't find anyone to ask. Not to mention, for the longest time there was only 2 cashiers ringing up customers. It was a Saturday and tons of people were in the line waiting to checkout. Unlike some of the other craft stores I've been in, this store wasn't cluttered or disorganized. Everything was neatly placed on the shelves, easy access and no clutter throughout the aisles. I wish their was a store closer to my house because I would be here at least once a week. This place is a winner. It was incredibly bright and clean, which I don't always see in craft stores. It was well-organized throughout - nothing hanging onto the floors or scattered around. The staff were super friendly, too. I was in to get some fleece for a no-sew blanket, and the sales associate in the fabric area knew what I was making and gave me helpful tips on it without me needing to ask. I was shocked at how much they have for "home decor" items. I always assumed this was mostly arts & craft supplies, but you can get tables, chairs, art, etc. While I wouldn't come here for those things, it might nice to grab some of those things and accessories without making an additional trip. You can easily get lost for hours in here, but it's worth the visit. read more

Horrible customer service. You would think that an assistant manager would help you when you're wrong on something... instead, he thought raising his voice while also laughing at me was right idea. Wrong! Unfortunately this was the only place I could find what I needed so I continued with my purchase; however, I will not be shopping at Hobby Lobby anymore. I expect better from a Christian-owned business. Also, when asking for help I was told to go to "aisle 12," but I didn't see aisle numbers anywhere. Maybe I missed it, but regardless it is very hard to find where things are as the aisle categories are directly in front of each aisle at eye level instead of hanging from the ceiling. read more

I learned about Hobby Lobby when I lived in Arkansas. At that time, I was bummed that there wasn't a Michaels or an AC Moore in the area. However, now I realize that Hobby Lobby is way better than either of those 2 stores! So I was super excited when I realized that they were opening one in MD. I ended up visiting all 3 craft stores in MD because I was getting ready for an upcoming wedding banquet. The verdict: Hobby Lobby is definitely a lot bigger and has more item selections. The prices are also much lower. The only thing that stood out to me was the store doesn't have scanning cash registers. My cashier was so slow because she had to type the code or prices of each item that I was purchasing. She even asked me where I found something because she wasn't sure if there was a promotion on the item. I can ignore the slowness on an off-peak hour, but I would hate to be in a long line waiting for the cashier to figure out the price of Christmas candles or a paper cutter. read more

Sometimes its hard for me to get the inspiration i need so i searched for a sales associate for assistance.. After finally finding one she wasnt really helpful, and was kind of dismissive because i didnt have the exact measurements of the project i had in mind. Unfortunately, this one is not as good as other Hobby Lobby stores. Not much inventory for premium water color products, or any painting/drawing products for that matter. The ads are sometimes misleading, because if you compare their "sale" prices to other stores' prices, they're about the same. But, the ultimate reason why they get only two stars is that their employees ALWAYS forget to charge you the sale price on items as advertised. And when you come back to get it corrected after seeing the receipt, they act as if it's the biggest inconvenience for them. Not very good customer service/business practice, I say. read more

It is clean and nice and completely mis-named. This place should be called knick-Knack lobby. Far too much of the store is dedicated to premade odds and ends that fall too easily under the heading of home décor not hobby related. The actual "hobby" part of the store is kind of thrown together as an after thought. The signage is not very good. Heck finding the bathroom took half an hour. There is a nice big sign that says "RESTROOMS" right over the door which places it far lower then the shelves that you would need to look through. My son wanted origami supplies and had no problem finding some suitable paper but could not find any books or special paper. The prices are a little more high-end when compared to other hobby shops. This is a great place to get unique arts and crafts supplies and also home decor. Kind of a mix between michaels and home goods. The prices are often extremely reasonable and if something isn't on sale there is usually a coupon you can get online. The only issue i have with this location is the lines are always long and it takes forever to check out, so it's important to be prepared for that. read more
