I enjoyed the project and learned about the process. Though, I should have started with an easier kit. Finley's Art Shoppe was really helpful in figuring out a nice frame and mounting. When I created this mosaic, I had to hide the uneven mosaic boarder, and they did a great job centering it. After I get done my second, simpler kit from Intessere, I will have them frame it!

So I hunted for art supplies in Philly on a whim, and there was a sibling! And wandering around on Yelp, I've found yet another! This A&C S is the smallest of the three that I have been so lucky to visit. There is something to be said for a downstairs space to rummage and roam for treasure. While this one is one floor, it is still a worthy member of the clan. I tried to go for just one or two items, but ended up with a slew of pens and pencils. My only regret was the fact that my carry on was the limit, not the items in the store. The staff were a great balance of attentive and laissez-faire. I like being able to enjoy looking at things and touching things without feeling weird or feeling as though sales folks are going to vulture me. I felt welcomed and a part of the store, but not smothered. Also the staff was friendly with each other but did not ignore a single customer in their reach. I liked that balance.

The employee and artist looked flabbergasted and I was shocked at the way the owner handles herself. Although the store has alot of supplies not found in craft stores, what I went for the employee stated they were out of stock of 5 items for watercolor. Whenever I go with a huge list of supplies for my fine arts classes at Penn, usually with items that I've never heard of or don't know the difference between, the store manager has always been willing to walk through the aisles with me and go down the list helping me find items. He'll even tell me which ones are "best priced", which I think is so kind and helpful. I'm pretty sure they have lots of experience with students coming through to buy boatloads of supplies, so he can feel out what level of quality and price is most worth it. The cashier people are very friendly, very familiar. You feel like they're fellow artists just like you and everyone does their best to make sure you have the best supplies for your projects without trying to hustle money out of you by taking advantage of any lack of knowledge you might have. It's a lovely experience! Blick does tend to have more selection, but there's plenty to roam around in this store, and I never feel like I don't have more to choose from than I could ever really fathom at once.
