That being said, having recently picked up the hobby again this year, a lot has changed, but the store still feels like itʻs stuck in time. In the end, it's up to you, as the consumer if you want to buy it or not. You control your money, not them. With that in mind, although I was being pushed towards a truck that I didn't really want or care for in buying, I just went with what I researched. Doesn't look like much on the outside and parking may be a bit of a struggle but once inside.... Ahhhhh the selection was fantastic! Half of the shop is R/C everything and the other half is fishing supplies. We went in looking for R/C supplies. The employees were friendly and they had everything we were looking for! The prices are reasonable and competitive, especially if you are wanting to "buy now" and not order on-line. Supporting a local business makes it all worth while. Went by this store today and all I have to say if how awesome every one there is everyone there is nice, helpful, and very knowledgeable, and their selection of rc parts and accessories are top notch, I ended up purchasing a kit that has been discontinued for a few years now and they made sure I knew that it comes with no electronics which is awesome of them to say, not much rc shops nowadays specify that a kit comes with no electronics. I would recommend them to all my family and friends 10/10 I'll definitely be back for more of my rc needs :) read more

I'm new to the world of quad copters and was looking for additional 3S LiPo batteries for mine but I ended up making the bump up from 3S to 4S along with a 4S charger and some other items as well. Learned quite a bit from the staff there and walked away happy with my purchase and newly acquired knowledge. I like that they will show you all options and give you pros/cons for getting the low vs higher priced item(s) you're looking for as well. After doing some online research with some guidance from friends, decided to visit Hobbietat again. Haven't been here in a long time. Met Roy and he was very helpful and friendly. Answered all of our questions which we had many both my friend and I. About a week later I made my purchase of a Arrma Kraton 6s and all the other things I needed. They also put in an order for a friend of mine (same RC) and that came in quick. Like 2-3 days. My friend went in and picked up his. Everett also helped us. He was also friendly and very helpful. The Hobbietat may be the last Hobby Shop on Oahu. Yelp lists gaming, comic, anime, and toy stores as "Hobby" shops but that just isn't close to accurate. I am looking to acquire or build an multirotor copter to do aerial photography and called all of the shops listed on yelp. Each store told me that they don't do RC or that they might have some cheap indoor mini RC helicopters, one had the Parrot AR Drone...not very helpful in my quest. When I finally got to speak with someone at Hobbietat, I thought all hope was lost because they only had one small copter in stock and it was nowhere close to what I needed. Just before hanging up with them, I asked if they do RC builds at their store and the young man said that they don't, not really, but they could. My last question: Would your shop be able to assist me with building my own Hectacopter or Octacoper? He made my day when he said yes! So, I don't have exactly what I wanted, but I have a place to go for some help with a project that, at least right now, is above my ability. Looking forward to working with the folks at The Hobbietat to get this project off the ground...pun intended. :) EDIT: Initially, I was going to give four stars for the support, less one star for not having inventory that fit my needs. After some thought, it is important to point out that the reason there are so few hobby shops around is that folks are spending more money online buying something already built for less than they might pay at a brick and mortar store such as this. It may not be possible to compete with these online prices, but service like this and the help that The Hobbietat offered in building my own multicopter more than earned them a 5 star review. read more

Simply put, simple and honest. The people working were very friendly, and very informative. I mentioned I'm here for some paint, and when I pick some stuff out, the guy told me about the other types that would probably be better for me. I know he wasn't trying to upsell me because these were cheaper than the ones I had originally picked out. They even helped me find a tool I needed from a very vague description (I only know the Japanese name). 5/5 will recommend to those with model kits that need paint. They staff is very knowledgeable about their products. They question you on what you are doing to find out what the heck you need. Prices are a bit high but they have most things in stock. NOTE: I've only gone here once, and I was in a hurry. This place is impressive. They have a wide variety of model rockets, cars, planes, and all the stuff you need to fuel your hobby. I went in to find some rocket engines and found them right away. The staff was friendly and helped me find the correct engines quickly. They also advised me on the rules for flying rockets in Hawaii. The prices for the engines were a little more expensive than Amazon, but after you add in the shipping cost to Hawaii, this store's prices were cheaper. I will probably go back to this store. In Hawaii for business and decided to stop in and take a look in the shop. Was not disappointed in the least. Jason went out of his way to talk to me about drift cars, setups, and pointers. Roy also was an obvious expert in the drift rc hobby and had a lot of great advice to share. Prices are very reasonable especially being that your on an island and surprisingly they carry a wide variety of RC kits parts and tools as well as tackle if you need to go fishing. If they don't have it they will order if for you, or if you broke a part that's covered under warranty, they will replace the part if they have it and send in your broken one.
