This restaurant holds a very special place in my heart, it was a beloved spot for my mother and grandparents, and I've been a loyal customer for years. So it genuinely pains me to write this review. Ever since the new management took over, it feels like everything that made this place special has been stripped away. The two dishes that kept our family coming back, the coffee cake and the corned beef hash, are simply not the same anymore. The hash was so bad we actually had to send it back. The coffee cake tasted like something picked up from a Costco shelf. These weren't just menu items to us; they were the reason we kept returning, year after year. To make matters worse, we visited on Mother's Day and were met with a two-person staff for what should be one of the busiest days of the year. We weren't even greeted when we walked in. The prices have gone up significantly, yet the food and service feel completely generic, nothing that justifies what they're charging. Yes, the restaurant got a nice facelift aesthetically, but a fresh coat of paint means nothing when the heart of the place, the food and the hospitality, is gone. New management has clearly prioritized appearances over the loyal customers who built this restaurant's reputation. It's a real shame. read more

The interior is a beautifully done retro dining space, complete with elegant chandeliers that give it a charming, vintage-chic feel that totally contrasts the modest exterior. I came in for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised from the start--each meal comes with a complimentary warm muffin that was incredibly tasty and a perfect way to begin. The food overall did not disappoint. The Belgian waffle combo stood out; since most breakfast combos comes with pancakes while my husband prefers waffles (and my husband usually has to order separately). The Laurel was another highlight--a delicious spinach omelet topped with feta that felt both hearty and fresh. A couple things to keep in mind: weekends can come with a long wait, and parking can be a bit challenging. Hob Nob Hill in San Diego was a bit of a mixed experience for us, mainly because we came for one specific thing and just barely missed it. My girlfriend was craving breakfast in the middle of the afternoon and we came here thinking it was all day breakfast. Unfortunately the day we went they cut breakfast off at 3 and we arrived right after so we missed it. We ended up grabbing a quick cocktail for the road and then had to settle for Denny's to satisfy the breakfast craving, which was disappointing because we were really looking forward to trying this spot. That said the place itself made a good first impression. Inside was well decorated, clean, and had a nice classic feel. The short interaction we had with the servers was good too. Friendly and helpful, and they let us know that starting next month they'll have a stable menu with all day breakfast included so this mix up shouldn't happen again. The drinks we had were solid but since we didn't actually get to try the food, I'm giving it 3 stars for now. I'm definitely open to coming back when all day breakfast is back so I can give it a proper try. read more

We've been coming here for many years and are always satisfied...even through the recent management changes, they've strived to retain the charm and vibe of the past. The food is delicious and amply prepared. What we like most is the service and servers - specifically, Jennette is attentive, but not intrusive. She practically "reads our minds" and we appreciate this greatly. Carlos is also very good. You can tell a lot about a restaurant by the people who work there. I've been here several times -- a few times with friends, and one time to bring my parents who were visiting from out of town. The first two visits with friends, I had the same omelette with cottage cheese, and I wasn't disappointment with the dish at all. It came with toast, but I passed since I'm on keto. The other time I came with my parents. They absolutely enjoyed the experience with their dishes. My dad had a pastrami sandwich with fries, and my mom tried the quiche. The new Hob Nob Hill under new ownership has been open a month or so. This was my second visit, and I was still disappointed. The manager promised to up the game in the kitchen after I returned the world's tiniest quiche on my last visit. So I ordered quiche again, and they first said they have made changes to the quiche plate. But then they said, "but we don't have any today". Ok.... So I got a Mediterranean salad. I was told it was very popular. It came out with soggy cucumbers on it. They looked like they had been frozen at some point. Once those cucumbers were replaced with fresh cucumbers, it was very good! Overall, I'm still very disappointed in this new Hob Nob- they still have a lot of work to do! read more

However, the ownership of this place changed about a year ago and I decided to come back and try a specific item, the eggs benedict, because I am a huge eggs benedict fan but I'm disappointed buy it at most restaurants. Not here! Hobnob Hill is one of the few restaurants I have found that actually bothers to make the Hollandaise sauce from scratch. This is the key, most of the restaurants use a powdered or jar of sauce that tastes gross to me. I confirmed before coming here for it that the Hollandaise sauce is made fresh from scratch daily and only available until 2:00 p.m. . My visit today confirmed that yes, it is fresh Hollandaise sauce made from scratch! So yummy and delicious, it's what I've been looking for! So, if you like eggs benedict, come try it here. Find out what fresh hollandaise sauce is supposed to taste like! They have a few different varieties of eggs benedict, I chose the classic one to keep it simple and it was done perfectly! Also the breakfast potatoes were pretty tasty too, with chopped bell peppers and onions in them. As of October 2025, the eggs benedict I had was about $16. When I complain about the food being cold they put in the microwave and get back to me. The prices are actually very reasonable affordable and of course the food was delicious for our breakfast orders. We ordered the house special coffee, which was delicious. I actually had two. We ordered a pineapple pastry before our breakfast arrived, which was just out of this world and then we ended up ordering our meals. all of our plates arrived. The food was hot. Ever since I tried the chilaquiles, I knew it would be my favorite breakfast dish here. I was fortunate enough to have the option of steak on top of my chilaquiles and remember the chef himself coming out to serve me the dish with a compliment to the order. That was on my birthday two years ago, this year I went back to get the same dish but was only allowed machaca meat. Both sauces are tasty and the portion is good enough to get overly full. Took forever to get the food - which didn't come out at the same time so I had to begin my meal before my dad received his or it would be cold. I've been eating here for four decades. I know it recently changed hands. The food is disgustingly bad. The salsa has absolutely no taste. I was stunned. Machaca and eggs? No, it was horrible. Corned beef and eggs, my Wife couldn't eat it. Service? They were un inspired and not attentive. 70 bucks for breakfast, it should be pretty good. Don't waste your time or money.
