Looking around the Barona food court for dinner options, we settled on Ho Wan given the long line but it was a disappointing experience and frankly the worst Chinese food I've had. The two stars are for the fast service and the friendly lady working the cash register. The food was bland, just covered in starch, no seasoning on the chicken, flavorless lumpia, and dry and inedible stir fry noodles. We had to add a ton of soy sauce and hot sauce to the food to make it edible. I prefer my food lightly seasoned but there was zero flavor. They forgot our rice so I had to go back and ask for it. Stopped by Barona to check out the extravagant Lunar New Year decor this year. I'm not a gambler so the only tables that get my money are the ones at the food court. Tried my luck at Ho Wan Noodle Shop, and I'd consider it a moderate win. Joined a queue of 10+ people at 10 pm Sat, but it moved fast. Food was ready in less than 10 mins. Cashier was polite. My BBQ Pork Soup Noodle was well-portioned. The pork was a bit hard at the outer edges but juicy otherwise. Thin egg noodles were at proper doneness. Veggies were a bit impoverished in portion though. The broad pan-Asian menu, late hours, and speedy service make Ho Wan a convenient choice. How the mighty fall. Been going for 15 years, and wow this isn't the same "better than it should be" casino restaurant anymore. It's essentially cafeteria food now. One of the best place for roasted duck in town, I've been trying the dish at so many restaurants in San Diego, I still have to come here for the crispy juicy less fattening duck meat at Ho Wan 好運 meaning Good Luck. The place exists since my first time at the casino dated back in 2010. Although it's Chinese Canton restaurant they do serve other Asian dishes such as Vietnamese Pho, Singapore noodles, Filipino pancit and more, you can try them all since they open 24/7, so yes come here eat first then play or vice verca, I would say get your stomach full first, your call, Barona got you :) read more

The place is located in the food court at Barona Casino. The place was clean and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I opted for the Kung Pao Shrimp (Daily Special for Saturday), which turned out to be a delightful choice. The perfect balance of spice made it a memorable dish. And two of us woke up today beaten , feeling fever . After 6 hours I started sweating , I got some medicine and tea . And it kinda helped , but now I'm feeling headache , weakness of the body, started gagging and when I'm getting out of bed my head is dizzy . My friend started to sweating one hour ago and got temperature . Second friend , who didn't eat at that place , feeling yourself good . I won a voucher to use at the food court at Barona Casino, so we finally came here a couple nights ago after playing the slots. Ho wan is connected with the Banh Mi shop and seemed like the best option out of the bunch. It was a Monday, so their special that night was Mongolian beef. I ordered that, Thai iced tea with boba, and a Vietnamese coffee for him. They handed me a buzzer and we collected our very little winnings while we waited for our order to be ready. There were more onions than beef in our entree, and this dish was wasn't as flavorful as I'd like. Our food came with some hot and sour, which was pretty good. As for the drinks, mine was a little too sweet, but huge! He did say the coffee was strong, but would have liked a little more condensed milk in it. Ho Wan mean good luck. I understand I'm in a casino but saying good luck at a restaurant has me leary. I mean its like just before eating blowfish and the chief smiles and gives you a wink. I haven't been here in over a year and the place expanded beautifully. Well actually the whole food court has expanded. The food is still cheap, abundant, and tasty. Same standard routine just walk up to the counter and order. There's a couple of binders that display a picture of each dish and price. The funny thing is thats it, they don't describe the dish. Let me help you. Whatever you get is delicious period. All the dishes are catered to the Asian palate. Along with the Chinese, there's Filipino, Thai, Vietnamese, and hamburgers. JK, on the hamburgers I wanted to see if you are paying attention. I got the BBQ short spare ribs. My fellow Hawaiian residents refer this as kalbi. It's ok not as good as back home. They use too much sugar so it leaves a darker appearance and slightly more crunchy taste then I like. But don't get me wrong-I like. And I usually don't eat much rice but man they do it way right here. It's Jasmine, nice light and not sticky at all. FYI they don't serve sticky rice here. Overall four stars. However, I had a bad experience the last time I ordered food at Ho Wan. This guy Wesley didn't want to give me an extra plum sauce for the roast duck. Considering the generosity that Barona gives to their customers, here's Wesley penny pinching on plum sauce. Ho Wan is located inside the food court at Barona. When I arrived for dinner, the line was super long. I thought that it would go by pretty quickly, but it took almost 15-20 minutes for us to reach the front. My friend and I decided to split their won ton noodle soup and lumpia. Don't expect anything fancy- Ho Wan is like a fancier version of Panda Express. They have waiters who bring your food and clean your tables which is nice. Our won ton noodle soup tasted okay, the lumpia not so great. The lumpia tasted like the ones you get from the supermarket and they just heated them up. Overall, okay food. Pretty good price. I have yet to experience other restaurants or even the buffet at Barona but I finally placed an order with Ho Wan on a very unproductive (money) wise day at Barona. Of course, it was for entertainment and spending was at a limit. However, I did get a small comp to purchase two entrees at Ho Wan. The food that I choose, bbq pork over rice and seafood udon was what I would consider average. The bbq pork that I have had in various places including Chinese takeout and even City Wok were a lot better. This bbq pork was meh. The seafood udon was not excellent and a bit average. I am sure there might be other dishes that could wow me from this restaurant but I am afraid to try it unless it was another comp since I don't want to spend my very little money for food I could not enjoy later. I'd been gambling, I was starving and I had high hopes for this place. Granted, it's located in a food court at Barona, which gives it some room to slip a little, but I still expected just a tad bit more. The line... oh boy the line. It's better than the cattle call waiting at the buffet (which I love), but this place is the main attraction when it comes to the food court. Ya know what? I think the reason for the long and slow moving line is because it is a confusing process. They have a small menu board waiting near the line but absolutely nobody sees it. It's not until you get up to the counter that you'll find a binder with each item taking up an individual page with a picture of it. Take care of this earlier in the process and things would move much more smoothly. The food was, eh... alright at best. I ordered the red Thai chicken curry with rice and while the portion was a decent size, it lacked flavor and the chicken was hard to track down. There were a few times that I thought I had hit the jackpot with a big juicy piece of chicken but it turned out to be a potato. Yeah, they sneak a lot of those potatoes in there to build you up and break you down. Cruel, Ho Wan... just cruel. The cashier (Maria) barely understand English. It took 10 minutes to order my food. She couldn't even get my order right. The other cashier was to busy talking to her co worker to help the other guest. Then she was very rude! I was not happy with my order at all! Bathed in pink and red light Ho Wan is conveniently located just next to the temporary sky bridge of Barona's remodeling project. I had plenty of time to look over the various menu options and settled on the sampler platter. I placed my order and grabbed a readily available cup of water before finding my seat beneath the pink lit tree in the corner. I waited for just a few moments before my food was delivered along with a plastic fork, knife, and small stack of napkins and a fortune cookie. The platter consisted of a bowl of fried rice, two potstickers, two egg rolls, three ribs, a chicken skewer, a beef skewer, and what tasted like over pickled coleslaw. I started with the chicken skewer and found it to be dry and bland. I quickly moved on to the beef skewer which was overcooked and sticky, again offering little taste. The egg rolls were crispy on the outside and tasty on the inside, but I found myself dipping them into one of the three provided sauces more often than normal. The potstickers texture and flavor gave away the fact that they were simply frozen potstickers that had been shocked back to warmth while what tasted like coleslaw brought your tastebuds back to life. The rice was poured onto my plate to soak up whatever moisture was there but ultimately, left behind. For just about $9.5, this plate is best left in the kitchen. Casino's, as we know, often provide great food options to keep players in their seats spending money. I agree with that statement as most others do, until I ate at Ho Wan. My suggestion, move along. This isn't the food you're looking for. It is an unfortunate fast food experience in the middle of an otherwise great casino with an amazing buffet. read more

Since reopening with no buffet. Barona has offered free meals in the food court for Platinum and above players, which includes Ho Wan. Not into seafood, so I've been trying the beef or chicken meals. Chicken items have been OK, but the beef in the low mein or beef with broccoli meals have been tough and stringy, and I wind up giving it to my dogs. Besides having a funny taste....it's hard to chew!! I highly recommend the Food Manager and a couple of his crew taste test these beef items. Ey! Nothing more uniquely American than having ethnic food in a casino. I have a really good Homestyle Vietnamese place in my hometown, so anytime I have Vietnamese food elsewhere it is often put up against the incredible quality I get here. With that said, I got the sandwich and it actually was well put together. My main reason for giving this place at 3 instead of 4 or 5 stars is because of the extraordinary wait time for something as simple as one sandwich and because the sandwich itself had way too much bread in comparison to the ingredients. The place wasn't even busy when I got there, there was only one person in line in front of me and nobody behind me yet. After I ordered it got pretty packed and they seem to prioritize in-house seating over people picking up there to go orders. I counted at least four people that got served before me although they were orders taken after mine, and as I took a closer look I realized there were mounting piles of to-go orders ready, they were just getting left aside because they were more worried about plating the in-house folks. read more

If you happened to be hungry while at Barona casino try the Ho Wan restaurant on the 2nd floor all the way to the end of the food court. We ordered my favorite dish, the "Korean Ribs" (#29 on the menu) and the "Philippine Pancit" (#13 on the menu). The food was so tasty, loved the kimchi that came with the korean ribs. Caroline, the attendant is so great and very friendly. She even suggested what to have the next time we are hungry again. Customer service is awesome! read more
