Terrible. If you like overpriced tasteless food then this is the place for you. My family and I placed to go orders totalling about $120. Nobody liked anything. It was a total waste of money. I had ham fried rice and shrimp egg foo young. It had no taste. None of it. What I did eat sat like a brick in my stomach until well after noon the next day. I threw 2 patties and the rice away. My parents had the Happy Family and Shrimp fried rice. They threw theirs away and my sister had multiple items and complained about all of it. We wanted to try something new. I think a local hole in the wall would have been better. I will never go back. read more

I've been eating here since I was a child, it was my parents favorite Chinese spot in the Cleveland area in the 80's. It's where I learned to use chopsticks and have for the better part of 40 years, told anyone who will listen... "Best Duck Sauce EVER!" It's made in house... for decades! No one does a crispy egg roll quite like them. Grab a Pu-Pu Platter, some Honey Walnut Chicken, any noodle dish... ask for favorites! I love that there is no cell service. An hour of quiet time! Thank you for still being here, in this quiet, peaceful, location. Staff is prompt, courteous, and efficient! Thank you Ho Wah! read more

Great, traditional Chinese food. The restaurant is quiet, dimly lit, and doesn't have a lot of televisions, which gives it a nice vibe.

My wife favorite Chinese restaurant . Order. Take out and bill came below my expectations in pick-up My wife likes lemon chicken, which was lightly breaded and good. She had the fried rice with it. I Hade sesame chicken with broccoli and white rice, very good Service was excellent for pickup. Nice restaurant but taking out this time read more

Went for Mother's Day and had an excellent experience. Long-time customer here and highly recommend. Great food, large portions but seems fair. General Tso's chicken was my choice, with fried rice and pot sticker appetizer for the table. Service was great, it wasn't overly busy though. There isn't cell phone service in the restaurant which I wish there was, but that's uncontrollable. Will continue to come back when I'm in the area! read more

The place we wanted to go to was closed and we stumbled upon this place on accident, but we were highly satisfied. The ambience and low dim lighting was kinda cute. It was a little dated, but still looked nice. Our service was great. Very attentive. Our food was delicious. Huge portions, which is good because it is a little pricier for Chinese food, but not expensive. We had crab Rangoon's, egg rolls, and orange chicken with fried rice. With plenty to share between the two of us will definitely be back. read more

Food, service, ambiance! In this day when many Oriental Restaurants are closed, Ho Wah is still great! Have visited several times in the last few months, most recently with my grandson. He loved it! Have tried dishes for the first time and was never disappointed. Appetizers we enjoyed were Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoon. Both perfectly crispy and tasty. Our entrees were Mi Fun with shrimp, Thai Basil Chicken and Ho Wah Szchewan. All delightful, with emphasis on FUL. Servings were plentiful, as we took half home. This restaurant still serves their dishes in the traditional silver bowls, as well as the teapots. Cloth tablecloths and napkins. Excellent waiter, whom we recognized from other places over the years. Again, the restaurant seemed short sraffed but our guy did a great job serving. Ho Wah will be our new go to place. Great place to dine. read more

Take out order, they were busy, it was extremely loud so had a hard time hearing the man on the phone. I told him several times I couldn't hear him, but he ignored me. Food was good, but service was lacking. We ordered 3 meals, plus soup, spring roll and crab Rangoon. Husband got home with order, it was missing crab Rangoon, and spring roll. Called and was told we would get credit for next time. Not one apology!! And very abrupt. We spent $90 for the take out, receipt was not itemized, should have been. (I do know from eating inside several times, that service is good, but no one smiles in that place. Starting with man at the front desk. read more

Highly recommend. Food was great--fresh and flavorful. Everyone enjoyed the meal, even my teenage sons who had to take the rest home! Service was great- not too busy for dinner in the middle of the week. read more

Ho Wah - Orange chicken, beef, and broccoli, lo mein, pork fried rice - Chinese Near Me - Beachwood, Ohio

The service is perfunctory at best. Our server was hurried and forgot an item. The food is mediocre. I love duck so I ordered the 8 Pearl Duck. I've had better take out. The duck was all fat and skin. Disgusting would be a compliment. It was offensive. The Szechuan Green Beans were just a limp mess with some sweet, bottled barbecue sauce. The Pork Dumplings were not fresh but had sweltered under a heat lamp. We were greeted with a piece of gristle and bone in one of them. Ycccch! The food comes out quick which speaks to preparation too far in advance and the result is predictably poor. After three lack-luster visits, Ho Wah is off our list. read more

I'm not sure why this place doesn't get more 5 star reviews. It's our favorite Chinese restaurant in the area and I have never had a bad meal. It has a really cool ambiance inside. Their spicy mustard is crazy hot and I always make sure to get egg roll to use the spicy mustard. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Just picked up a to go order and received horrible service. I've been a customer for well over 20-30 years with no complaints. Assuming there's new management but I walked in and the manager, Micheal, refused to even acknowledge me. Then when I asked if I could be helped he said "well you're on the phone". Not illegal and no signs stating you're not allowed to use the phone. Then he refused to even give me my credit card receipt said "you don't need to sign". I've worked in the service industry before and always tip...even on to go food. I thanked him for preventing his staff from getting a tip. I never leave reviews but could not pass up the opportunity to express the disappointment with such rude service from someone who calls themselves a manager. Leadership is from top down so sad to see this is now the example being set at Ho Wah. read more

I liked the quiet, dim, more formal setting of this place. It's on the lower level of this strip of restaurants in Beachwood with dedicated parking but when it's busy, it can be hard to find a spot. Presentation of the dishes were good and taste of the dishes were great! I got the hot mandarin duck and chicken lettuce wraps and both were excellent. Prices were a bit high but the portions were reasonable so I always appreciate that. Service was quick and they automatically serve you hot tea, which is cute. I would come back again to try other menu items! read more

9 of us cane for dinner as it is a favorite Chinese place that we hadn't been to in a few years. They weren't overly busy, but there was a stream of people coming and going for takeout. We had a really nice large round table for all of us. It was perfect to be able to see and talk with everyone versus a long rectangle table. Some of us shared dishes and some wanted their own. I split a chicken egg roll, lemon chicken and sesame beef. We also had this with fried rice. Others had pad Thai, won ton soup, hot and sour soup, kung pao chicken, and governor tso's chicken. We all really enjoyed and our server "Lisa's mom" was funny and excellent!!!! read more

I don't understand how this restaurant is in business. We attended a birthday dinner here, and EVERYONE left irritated and hungry. The waiter was the most rude I've ever encountered anywhere. I ordered chicken egg roll and he repeated back to me that I wanted a chicken egg roll. We told him "no, chicken". His response was "no, vegetable." How do you tell the customer what she's going to eat??? And it wasn't because they were out of chicken egg rolls or something, because everyone else that ordered chicken egg rolls at the table after me received chicken, and he actually gave me a vegetable egg roll! The server was snappy and rude constantly. When trying to order he wanted us to hurry up and order. There's no reason to be that rude to guests who were nothing less than polite and respectful to the staff and other guests. We expected that a large party would have an automatic gratuity added, but when he swiped our cards he wrote in the tip amount for us. Excuse me? That's not how you do an automatic gratuity. He told us to "just sign it." The food was awful. I wouldn't even rate it as mediocre. There were no spices added. The dishes that were supposed to be spicy were bland. It was an all around awful experience. The dungeon atmosphere wasn't very appealing. It felt like we were in a basement. I couldn't even get cell phone reception, and I honestly can't remember the last time I couldn't even get reception. read more

My boyfriend and I ate here recently and had a terrible experience. First and foremost, the food was mediocre. Most of the General Tsos chicken was breading or just the parts of a chicken you don't want to eat (fatty and gooey). Also, I asked for brown rice and the server stated it would be an $11 upcharge. For rice. From then on, he just practically ignored us. Since our server was rude and our food tasted gross, my boyfriend left a $6 tip on a $45 meal. THE SERVER THEN SNATCHED THE RECEIPT AND CONFRONTED US AND ASKED FOR MORE TIP MONEY. Are you kidding me? I'm not one to leave bad reviews, but that's just wrong. We could have easily given him $0 for the lack of attention and rudeness, but didn't. If you value your time and want a good meal, don't go here. read more

Got takeout from here on a rainy fall weekend. The service members were nice and food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. The chicken flavors were pretty good but with too much batter imo. We ordered the fried rice, which was pretty good. We asked for fried rice with the entrees and was surprised to see that it was literally just fried rice without vegetables. That was a little disappointing. But otherwise this was a pretty decent spot! read more

New favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. The food is always amazing and the dining experience is very nice as well. They give you a good portion size for the pricing and the food always tastes amazing. I appreciate the oolong tea with whatever food you order. Service has always been friendly whenever we dine in and ordering over the phone is easy as well. Highly recommend giving this place a try if you are in the mood for Chinese food. Try the egg rolls specifically, they are among the best we have ever had. read more

I came on a Tuesday for lunch. I asked if I can have vegetables added or cooked on the side and the server said No. The service was fast, food came out quickly. My mom ordered a dish and hers came with broccoli, so if you want any type of vegetables make sure it comes with your meal. The food is always good, fresh and hot. But fried rice without onions, egg, carrots or peas is just unheard of. And leave you just wanting what your paying for. Other people in the restaurant ordered and some had veggies with the meat but no one has the vegetables in the fried rice. read more

Being one of the only Cantonese Chinese restaurants on the east side of Cleveland, this is my go to for great food. The Kung, pow dishes, pepper, steak, egg foo yong, and appetizers, all are wonderful if Cantonese Chinese food is your favorite. There fried chicken appetizer and the ribs and spring rolls are all yummy . Actually for more exotic dishes, our go to is sun luck garden in Cleveland Heights. just thought I would throw that in. read more

This review summarizes two visits here. Both times the service was marginal. Today I had wonton soup. The wontons were mush. A spring roll. Ok but seemed like it was packed wrong. One bite and all the insides came out. Tasty enough with the hot mustard I demanded. And for an entree I ordered the Hu Wah Hunan. It was supposed to be Spicey? I'm not Gond to rush back there read more

Update 16 years later so Ho Wah is still the now husband's family Chinese restaurant of choice. Food is still teriblely slimy/saucy, but now service is terrible. Prices have also skyrocketed. Our food took an hour to come out while other tables received theirs the server told me that's because we ordered appetizers. Um sure. I don't recommend this place. read more

Horrid experience!!! About a month ago, Alice and Patti went to Ho Wah for dinner. Our fsmily had eaten there for several generations. The waitress was rude, the service was rushed, and the food was bland. Alice and Patti left a tip despite the poor service and food. The waitress asked them if that was all they were leaving her as it wasn't much. Then the manager followed Alice and Patti out, yelling at them. Alice and Patti will never go back and neither will anyone who knows them. Ho Wah always had poor food, but the awful management and staff made the place worse. read more

The Good: Visually nice restaurant inside of larger shared office building. Gentleman at front desk was kind. The older woman who brought check at the end of meal was very sweet. The Bad: The food. We tried several appetizers - egg rolls were decent but that was about it. The entrees were all subpar. Tortillas for the Moo Shu? Dark Brown "fried rice" with nothing in it? The service was just as bad. Our young female server was inattentive and very rushed, bordering on rude. read more

Ordered takeout - variety of entrees and appetizers. Barbeque ribs were inedible-tough and strangely flavored. General Tso's was mostly soft batter - not much chicken. Moo shu pancakes were stale and inedible. Green beans were ok. Everything was very blandly seasoned. read more

We tried this place, figuring if it has been around since 1979 it must be doing something right. It is a very nice place, clean, and inviting. The one thing we noticed right away though was it was about ten degrees warmer inside the restaurant than in the mall. We were seated in the very back of the place, and it was stiffeling hot back there. When the food came, my wife had ordered Chop Suey and I had ordered Beef pepper steak. Both of the sauces were GREY and had no flavor. We were with a group of 7, and asked if we could have separate checks, NO was the answer as it is too hard for the people up front we were told. When the soup came, we were also brought a small bowl of FIVE shrimp chips for 7 people. Really... how is that supposed to work? Most Chinese restaurants bring a large bowl or multiple bowls for a table with several people. We will go elsewhere next time. Not a good experience. read more
