Sam appears to me to be a Harley Davidson enthusiast. He understands that culture and those bikes. Yet each time I bring in my Honda CB1100 for service, he is polite, completely engaged, and celebrates the moment even though his time spent on metric bikes may be limited. Keegan is quiet and intense. He is a metric motorcyclist with a performance bent. However, he takes the same pride working on a 650 LB bagger that he does when he services a high performance motorcycle. I believe he enjoys test driving my CB1100. He has assured me that he is better behaved on my motorcycle than his own. Fredy is quiet and always working. Although my interaction with him has been limited, it is clear to everyone that he likes to get things done and move on to the next work order. I have done business with HK Cycles for 10 years. Taking my bike here was the experience I've longed for, for over 6 years. The whole team takes the time to listen to what you're experiencing on the bike and provide thoughtful and reliable recommendations on how to correct issues with your bike. I was having an issue with pressure build up in my gas tank after putting an after market one on, if taken the bike to several shops who just said I was wrong to have modified it but never could figure out what was wrong. One visit to HK for a completely unrelated reason (new tires) and they were not only able to diagnose the issue on the fly but offered to quickly and correctly fix it. DO NOT GO HERE....first of all, they charge more than a dealership does for a simple service. I paid $450+ for a simple 5,000 mile service. I called the dealership afterwards and they told me typical 5,000 mile service was around $350. Secondly, they charged me $15 for a "test ride". Seriously, an additional charge for a test ride after paying over $450 for a normal service? What a joke. Finally, my adjustable windshield stopped working after I picked up my bike. Was working perfectly fine when I dropped it off. Dropped it off in the "up" position and when I picked it up, it was in the "down" position. Clearly they were adjusting it and somehow it broke in the process. They offered to keep it there to figure out why it stopped working, but I politely declined becuase I didn't want to pay an arm and leg to fix a problem they caused. GO ELSEWHERE!! read more

I made the mistake of buying a motorcycle with my emotions, something I've never done before. I've always owned metrics, and once in my life I wanted a custom vtwin. I saw a beautiful bike at a Livermore classic car show, and lust took over, with due dilligence flying out the window. After just a few short rides, things went south in a hurry. Won't bore you with all the problems, but suffice to say I found out that the bike was built as a show bike, and not as a rider. Brand new to me first Harley! 2008 dyna fat bob with a starting issue. Had to have it transported to his shop and I think it was Dave came and picked it up on a rainy Saturday. Great guy by the way. Called on Monday and said check back by end of week. Called back and said it was running! Best experience by any service shop car or bike. Been taking my bike to HK for a few years. I mostly do my own oil changes and simple things like that. But I like to have a shop that I trust put an eyeball on my bike because they know how look for problems coming in the near future. Yes, on occasion they see something that is destined to fail sooner or later and although I hate to hear that something going to break or wear out soon, I'd much rather hear it on the phone from Danny than be on the side of the road outside Barstow. Take your business elsewhere. There are so many other shops in town that far exceed the quality and expertise of HK Cycles. In my option, this place is a big SCAM. My first experience was when i had my rear tire replaced. I got a quote for the tire and labor - dropped it off and when I picked up my bike, the price jumped quite a bit from what I was quoted. When I questioned it, I was told that I needed new brakes so they decide to change those too without my consent. Seriously? Who does that? I told them i would not pay for it and that I wanted to see my old brake pads. They scrambled around for about 30mins and couldn't find them! I finally agreed to receive a discount off of labor for future service due to this horrible judgement call by the mechanic. They were noting it in the computer for next time as well as hand wrote it on the back of a business card. My second experience was when I brought my bike back again to replace the other tire. I was excited to use my discount. I was told that they had no record of it! When I gave them the business card and the name of the person that authorized it, I was told he didn't work there any longer and no discount on the labor was to be applied! I will never go back. I had a great experience with HK Cycles a couple weeks ago. I was on my way to a group ride to Carson City when the bolt to my gear shift lever decided to make a run for it. I was stuck in Livermore (which I am unfamiliar with), with very little options. I called them up, and even though I have a Honda and they mostly work on Harleys, they were willing to help me. I limped the bike over to them, and they took great care of me. 25 minutes later, I was back on the road. Thank you Jeff and Rob for stopping what you were doing to help me out. I have a unique problem with my late husband's 2004 Fat Boy. Jeff made my almost impossible situation seem minor. He offered me options that covered all of my problems at a very reasonable rate. In 2015, I bought a Dyna Wide glide from this place. Before taking possession, I paid to replace the battery with a new one. Got home, and the bike would not start. After calling Jeff and he walked me through and I got to the battery compartment under the seat. The cables were not connected. They were just sitting on top of the battery. I tightened them up and it was alright. I was not happy but no big deal and it can happen to anyone of us. Today, I went to H.C cycles with a friend who was looking at some used bike. We got there around 2:30PM. The gentleman in the store on the phone. So we proceeding to the bike of interest. He put the phone on hold and yelled at us: "Be careful! It is expensive..." The bike was listed for $12,000.00 ---- "Be careful!" Yes... with big bikes we have to be careful. ...But this: "It is expensive" was gratuitous and unnecessary. I cannot help to think that it has something to do with being Black. I expressed my displeasure and left. This is no reflection on Jeff, the owner, from whom I have purchased a $17,000 bike before... read more

On my last visit HKC failed to properly torque my front wheel after mounting a new tire. Instead of the book 22 ft lbs the pinch bolts were left finger tight. This time I left the bike at home arriving with new tire and wheel to be mounted. Paid $50 for their work and was on my way in about an hour. The next morning my new tire was flat. Refilling I quickly found a slow leak requiring the tire to be refilled before each ride. Later I asked another shop to investigate and they showed me how HKC had destroyed the inside of the tire during mounting and decided to keep it to themselves. Don't want customers know they screwed the pooch on a simple tire mounting. This is the second time HK Cycles put me at risk (front wheel compromised) out of incompetence. This isn't baseball, you don't get three strikes. I'm happy to say YOU'RE OUT. read more

WARNING!! All around worst experience of any shop that works on bikes!! Went in for a tire change. A job quoted for an hour that took three hours. Mechanics said brake pads were bad so replaced them. When i picked up the bike I paid almost $600. They stated that the bike was ridden after the work was performed and the bike was good to go. I road the bike down the street and the brakes were squealing as if they were stuck on. I road directly back to the shop and it was all closed and everyone was gone. I have a trip planned for that weekend so I'm SOL. The rotor and brake pads are now warped my pulley is all scratched up from the tire removal. My exhaust bracket is broken. I returned to the shop within there 1,000 miles or 1 month warranty. The mechanic test rides the bike and can now hear the noise that sounds exactly as it did when I picked up the bike. The owner will not stand behind his warranty and correct the problems that there shop created. In fact he blames high mileage and every other excuse so he doesn't have to correct there mistakes. The bike was not having any of these issues before I went to this shop. I will make sure to tell everyone of this incident! We work to hard for our money to let a shop try to burn us for something that they damaged. I would not trust them to work on a bike after they let a bike leave there shop in that condition! read more

I love this shop. The owners, Dan and Jane are terrific people. Lance is a highly skilled HD mechanic who did a great handlebar job on my Softail. He took the time to help me pick out the right bars,a windvest that matched the design and also worked with me to adjust them just right for my riding position. I've taken my harley (2000 fxstb) a few times for both service, and parts installation. They obviously take pride in their work and run a great shop. The mechanic took the time to make sure I got the perfect handlebars for me, and explained everything he did for the 25,000 mile service. I later went back again to have exhaust put on as well. I've been through a couple Harley's and a couple shops, but I've definitely found the shop that I'm sticking with. read more

Seriously disappointed.... Rode to shop after calling in the details I needed done and was told to come straight in to have him "look" at it before the mechanic goes to lunch.. Cool!!!! rode straight down from Tracy was greeted nicely and told to wait cuz dude was on the phone .. Well I waited 20 minutes or so and around the 20 minute mark another guy walks in asking about oil he grabs my attention so I'm no longer watching the mechanic on the phone and to my surprise the mechanic disappears off the phone only to pop up next to the guy who just walked in after I had been there for 20 minutes waiting patiently... Long story short.. I waited and was disrespected for some reason or the mechanic just wanted an easy Friday and only to discuss oil with a guy who just walked in... I'll pass on my experience to my friends... Too bad I had gone down there on a referral from a friend saying they had excellent customer service and quality work.. first time at h&k . was looking for an alternate shop to have work done. i found it. i was actually looking for a quart of primary case oil. my usual sources were out. found hk on the internet. its a smaller more intimate shop. there is an abundance of parts on the back wall that are not packaged. easy to see. i asked some technical questions and dan was very informative. he didnt act like its a big secret! dan strikes me as some one who might quietly think your a dumbass but you wont know it. its called manners. much of which have been abandoned. jane was very gracious steering me to their location when i got lost. no work done yet but i know where i am taking my bike when it needs something done. dan o read more

Took my '09 Road Glide in for warranty work and some powder coating. Their whole staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. One issue I had was how my clutch cable was ran (Modesto Harley install) and the tech was able to offer a solution based on his experience with other Harley's. Place has a decent mechanic. But the prices are high and the owner doesn't honor his warranty. I had an engine build there, brought the bike back as I was concerned on it burning oil. I was told the bike was fine and to add a heavy weight oil 20/60 ummm do I look stupid here? The bike has some white smoke intermittently coming out the exhaust . They say oh that's normal . Ummm I don't think bikes aren't supposed to smoke like that. Not to mention it looses about half a court of oil every 100 miles. So basically in a nut shell take it there @ your own risk. He doesn't stand be his warranty !! He's thief, and doesn't keep his word. Make sure you get what ever final number he gives you on his out the door price in writing! As he's know to frequently change the price on parts and add labor then slap you with the bill with an extra $600 later. Ride it like you stole. read more

I was looking to get a fairing for my 48 and wasn't sure if it was worth the investment, so I stopped by the shop without an appointment, Dan stopped what he was doing, gave me his professional opinion and ordered the fairing for me on the spot. After I installed it I came back by the shop and Dan checked the pinch bolts for me, free of charge! How many times does that happen?! brought my bike in for performance parts and jeff and his crew slapped together a big bore kit from s&s and added a jims 6 speed with a barnett clutch. motor doesnt leak and gears dont slip. prior to this ive always brought it in for the normal fluid changes and theuve always done an excellent job. i wont tale my bike anywhere else read more

Speedometer wasn't working, paid $150 got bike back still didn't work. He said it was for troubleshooting. Took it in elsewhere, fixed in 10 minutes, for $30. Sensor needed to be pushed closer to rim, didn't need to replace anything. Had them change some cables on my handlebars, they didn't tighten them, driving away I stopped and the handlebars slipped forward, almost lost it. Bought a battery $130 wasn't covered under warranty a short time later. read more

I have been doing business with Hk cycles for 8 or 9 years , buying tires , upgrading my HD , motor work , tuneups , oil changes they have done it all for me . The work is always excellent . When I bought my new HD I sold my old one through their consignment lot . Even when I come in with a stupid question , or to get air in a tire they are friendly , and take the time to help out . I always send my friends to them . Their hourly rate is great , and it doesn't feel like you are getting bent over like some of the dealerships . read more
