Our truck is expensive to own and requires a a good amount of service. Basically every other oil change, there are Two fuel filters that need replacing. A client of ours has the same truck and recommended Alan and Sons for maintenance. We called, they squeezed us in same day, and I feel like they didn't thorough job. They transaction was easy and I felt like the staff here was pretty honest, gave us confidence that the job was done right. Their prices were very fair and average to the market rate. My car had been running fine but It had not had a tune up in 4 years. Also needed a few suspension parts replaced. I wasn't sure if my car really needed the service but I felt I'd better do it before something failed. On my drive home, I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth it felt. When I started my conversations with them, they sent me a text with a link of the rough estimated price. The reviews here were so good. I was so happy to find this place, but- when we got our car back they hadn't put a part back on our car with all it's screws and when we went to drive it, it fell off the bottom of our car and was dragging on the ground. Looking online we found that when this part falls off it's usually after you've had work done and someone forgets to put it back correctly. When we took the car back, it looked like they jury rigged it when they "fixed" it and there was slop between the fasteners- now it's moving around. Pretty disappointed. I guess even the best places make mistakes, but no one even said they were sorry. I'm glad other people had good experiences- but I guess your mileage could vary. I almost never leave negative reviews- but this was a big disappointment to us. read more

Honest decent people. Alan is a very helpful knowledgeable mechanic. I came in after my bike cut off on the freeway, worried it might be something major. They inspected everything and eventually pointed out that the bike simply ran out of gas and the pump might have locked up, that's why it didnt start after I added me my own gas. They didn't overcharge me for anything, they took good care of me and the bike in a decent timeframe. I'm very thankful for their quality service. Wow! Finally an honest shop that is ran with integrity. I was referred to Alan and sons from a friend who had nothing but great things to say. I brought a very old, beat up car here for some lovin and honestly to get whatever I could get out of it for alittle bit longer. They inspected the entire car and came back with the list, yikes. ( which I knew) They were so great about helping me make the best decisions to ensure safety first, than prioritize what was even worth fixing being what the car is even worth. My engine seized on my Pontiac Grand Am and had my car towed to Aland and Sons, righty away when I spoke to them on the phone I felt comfortable and wanted to bring my car to them. They let me know what was going on with my car and helped beyond belief. Victoria, at the front, attempted many times to call my dealer and get the warranty process going so they can repair my car. Dealer was never reached and they let me know I could keep my car there until I can contact them. After 2 weeks of arguing with my dealer, back & forth. (CARHOP, NEVER EVER GET YOUR CAR THERE, EVER) I decided to let carhop tow my car to their lot and take it. Everyone at Alan & Sons has been such a great help and never seemed to get frustrated or overwhelmed with my issues. This shop is one of the worst shops you can take your car to. The two woman working the counter are polite and informative, but it doesn't appear they communicate with the mechanics in the back. I took my VW Beetle to have a radiator and headlight assembly replaced. I provided brand new parts. After I picked up my car and was driving on the freeway, I heard a loud crash. The headlight assembly just installed by the shop fell off. Also, a few weeks later, the engine started overheating because the cap of the brand new radiator was not screwed on properly and was losing fluids. They refuse to reimburse me for the headlight light assembly they installed and approved the installation. I had to drive my car in the evening with only one headlight. I decided to sell it for much less of its value and take a loss. read more

Needed help with a battery/starter/alternator issue on a weird car and Alan got me in the next day and got it sorted out and working perfectly for a reasonable price. The kicker was, they figured out the repair may have been covered under a recall and researched that for me. It ended up not being applicable but how many places are going to point it out and do the legwork (for free) to check it out? I was really impressed! A long overdue THANK YOU and kudos for Alan and Sons. With a car full of people and animals on our way to camp in the Sierra, my radiator overheated on i-80. Oh so fortunate that Alan and Sons was the closest shop that we could limp to. So, these folks didn't know me. As I live in Oakland, they weren't trying to secure a long-term customer. Nonetheless, they fit us in, brought us water for the dogs and coffee for me, gave continual updates, fixed a cable and rotten cap and off we went again hoping it wasn't more than that. Nope, the whole radiator was screwed and we were again on the side of the road. Even though it was just after their closing hour, they invited us to get back to the shop if possible and ordered me a radiator in the meantime. They were willing to stay after hours to fix this - again explaining all the options and possibilities, even though now long after closing time. Since it wasn't a sure fix (might need to replace the water pump) we opted to return to Oakland and get another vehicle for camping. But WOW! I can't say enough about their professionalism, their care for strangers, the good work they did on the car, and their great communication. My Stepfather's truck had a brake problem while I was moving my son. It was late on a Friday afternoon and we were from out of town. When I called, Victoria was very helpful and had me bring the truck right over. It was near closing time, but the technicians looked at the vehicle and determined the calipers needed replacing. Victoria ordered new parts and a technician came in on Saturday when they were closed to do the work. She called me from her home when the work was completed and we were able to get the truck on Saturday. It is so refreshing to have this great customer service experience in this day and age. Beware, if you don't know about cars and especially if you're a woman this is the type of place that will pray on you. My wife went in there to get a water pump and thermostat replaced on a 2002 530i and they quoted her nearly $1,000. This entire job takes about an hour and a half and is less than $200 in parts. Furthermore after being on the phone with them and telling them to just charge for the actual time works not that what it says in their book they refuse to service the car. I had to bring the car to a shop I've gone to before and it was done for just over $500 the very same day with just one hour notice. That's right the car was there at 2:30 and done before 5:00. read more

I would just like to say a couple of great things about Alan and Sons. I am glad I found this business. After trying several places and not finding the results I wanted for my motorcycle I finally found it. Before I went to this business I read most of the reviews and after coming to this place I felt like I knew Alan and Victoria. I felt like they were family. I do have to say I had doubts in any body fixing my Harley only because I've taken it too many times to friends of friends thinking they can fix it but it would come back almost the same way I took it in. Sometimes they would take at least 3-4 weeks or more only because they would work on it when ever they had time. They just didn't have no time of urgency. Anyways as soon as I brought my bike to Alan and after talking to him I knew right off the bat that I brought it to the right place. He was so sure of himself. He said that it would be no problem in fixing my bike. After the fourth day Alan called me and said that my bike was ready to go. After picking it up and riding I felt the big difference. You would not believe how happy I was riding my bike. I felt like I had a brand new Harley. My Harley is a 1992 Dyna. By the way they are very reasonable. I know I'll be going back if ever I have any trouble with my Harley. I want to share some more good news about Alan. I took my bike again to Alan to finally fix my oil leak I've been having for a while. And at the same time fix my bike from backfiring. Well they did another great job. Alan and his crew are the bombs. I'm so happy with my bike I feel like a kid with his new bike. I took a trip this past weekend and no problems at all. Thank you Alan for all of your help.
