I presented him with a Machine with several problems that took three trips back and forth to finally fix. (I contributed to that by not bringing the special water hose.) I stood by his side and watched him do his genius. He not only found the issues, he also spent all the time necessary to make sure he lived up to his reputation. If you are lucky to sit in the garden and have a chat and meet his charming cat Chester (that loves to be rubbed under his chin) you will discover just how interesting and competent this man is. I've had my La Pavoni Pro Europiccola PC-16 espresso machine for nearly 20 years. Two weeks ago, the extension cord burned out. I researched repair services in the greater LA area and found HiTech Espresso, run by David, who specializes in repairing fine espresso machines. I contacted David and dropped off my machine for repair. During the consultation, I met Kevin, who informed me that the group head needed new gaskets. Initially skeptical about having work done on the group head, I agreed. Today, I picked up my machine and met David. He's much friendlier in person, lol. We discussed the work done (extension cord was replaced and changed from a 16 gauge to a 14 gauge and group head gaskets replaced), then we talked a bit about other espresso machines, coffee beans, and grinders. Then I left. I'm extremely happy with HiTech Espresso's work. When I got home, I fired up my La Pavoni and pulled my first espresso shot. The lever was so smooth and easy to use. Thank you, Kevin, for your help and recommendation to address the gaskets in the group head. I appreciate that it's a personal business, and the fees are reasonable. OK, this may be long as I want to be thorough. I literally read EVERY review here on HiTech. The overwhelming majority are positive. The negative are VERY negative! When I see that, I usually go with the positive POV and figure that the others are outliers and something went wrong - maybe/likely with THEM. So, my wife was going near there and dropped off my prized La Pavoni lever machine that she got me for my 60th birthday. It's my pride and joy. I've used it daily one or more times A day!, not to mention even more during holidays. After 3.5 years, she needed a tuneup. Two weeks later, we went in today, not knowing what sort of guy would greet us. Let me preface this piece with something about me. I was born in Montana, and grew up back east. The east coast is a very sarcastic, and according to my wife, "smart ass" culture. She's 100% right - I am that and some. She's a native/lifelong Californian. How did we make it 35 years? Easily. So, we went there to pickup my La Pavoni. the last few weeks have been the WORST without it. I've been drinking coffee since I was about 8 years old. My Dad was a geologist and coffee is a staple. I went downstairs, and there were a lot of folks around - some staff, some customers. Neat little basement shop filled with all sorts of bean machines. My wife introduced me to Dave, and I could tell we were two of a kind. I was prepared - as I said, I read every review and reply. We had fun joking around and of course I got some classic Dave sarcasm - I was "using the wrong water" and that sort of thing. I took it as good advice rather than getting butt hurt. We had a blast, and Dave invited us upstairs into his home where he showed us HIS wonderful setup and he made me an espresso that was amazing! We chatted about grinders, filters, water, etc. while the caffeine entered my brain. He mentioned that a knob needed to be replaced and I knew that as I had put some tape on it to hold it in place. he volunteered to order me a new one, which we accepted. Now here's the funny part. As I carried my machine outside to the car, I looked at it (I keep it like a Ferrari) and noticed that the boiler was gold. I said something about it and Dave replied "Yeah, I gold plated your boiler too". It was the first time I've seen it in sunlight and it was in fact, gold! Back in the house, it looks silver again. So, thanks Dave for going the extra mile - why not plate the whole thing gold? :) So, we took it home and of course I fired it up. Made my wife a latté as I had already had my limit. It was perfect. The machine feels better than new, and I am a happy camper! If you're a little overly sensitive, maybe find someone with a thicker skin to go in for you. I bought used La Spaziale Dream T that was not working, had him make sure the machine was safe to use, and to fix the issue which ended up being the pump. On the way out got some tips on what water to use to prevent the calcium deposits that the last guy had on it, he even cut the cord to a manageable length for a countertop vs that 5 feet long cord that came with it. read more

We were never quoted a price in advance because the issue was unknown. Again we learned the cost was $500+ AFTER the Pro Espresso Coffee Machine was fixed. It is customary to call the customer to discuss the issue and inform the customer the cost to fix in advance. read more

I took my Italian 4 year old lever-operated machine (La Pavoni Europiccola) here because it was leaking like a sieve. Dave fixed it more quickly than anticipated, and it actually works better than when it was new. The price was reasonable, plus shipping it back and forth to the Seattle store where I bought it would have been crazy expensive. So happy to find a place in LA to keep it in top shape. place is a joke, guy is a jerk. After I called twice, telling him my machine model, he told me to bring it in. After it sat there for a week, he told me to come pick it up, he couldn't work on it because, "it's 30 years old." That's it? When I went to pick it up he says, "would you repair a 30 year old car?" Dude. Lame. What a joke. Well, if you bought a crappy, overpriced espresso machines and it broke then this is the perfect guy to take advantage of your mistake and charge you $150 an hour to fix it. My Lelit Mara X V2 was ready for pickup much faster than expected. Working like a dream again. I think he also lubricated the squeaky lever on the machine! If you're lucky you'll also catch his friendly creamsicle cat Chester. I'll definitely come here for all my repair needs in the future. read more

Breville - all in one with the grinder and the grinder was not doing it's job. The answer, new blades. It worked. It's great, like new. I was surprised that the blades on the grinder wore out as they seem sharp to the touch, but I guess those fresh espresso beans are tough to crack. It now grinds twice as fast. Repair was instant. priced fairly and they even told me where to park so I didn't have to carry the heavy machine around the block. And if you smile, they will tell you some of their favorite places to get good beans. read more

David, at High Tech Espresso did a fantastic job at diagnosing the milk frothing heating problem on my only 30 month, well loved and cared for, and minimally used Saeco Pico Barista. Since Saeco was bought out by Phillips, what David is seeing is poorer quality manufacturing. My machine needed a new CPU which Phillips is no longer making that part. Terrible to have such a young, and very expensive ($2,000.) machine go bad at 30 months and not be able to repair it. David guided me on all my options, and he had some very good ideas I wouldn't have thought of. Oto was a great communicator and answered every email very promptly, which I very much appreciated, and he searched out leads for parts I was guided to. The both of these men care about the work they do, and are very fair minded with options, and pricing. 2023- 6 years later after my last review :) Again DAVID pulls through again! As I remembered him years ago, his dry humor, kindness, and matter of fact of knowledge was all there. And I love it! I had trusted his professionalism and advise years ago and that never left. The impression that David gave me back then made me be a forever return customer. Well, I had a Gaggia Classic that stopped working. And before I went to David, I had been looking to upgrade my Espresso Machine. When I got there and talked about what was wrong, David, like the Jedi he is... seemed to already knew what was wrong even before I got there :P. I had a slight idea what was wrong, but David confirmed everything. He and I talked for a little while and he did show me a machine, Silviano Evo. I don't know if it is his style of salesmanship, humor, kindness, pure knowledge, or what, but at the end I joyfully ordered the machine and left feeling good about the purchase! I do trust David's knowledge with everything espresso and everything I have ever had espresso has been through his advise and through him! I got an Encore Grinder years ago and it still works like a champ, I got the Gaggia from him and it was, as he said at the time, a wonderful entry level espresso machine. Dave and team are incredibly knowledgeable on all things espresso. I had issues with my Rancilio Silvia last year (blocked solvenoid valve and boiler with lots of scale) and I brought it in on a rec from a friend. They fixed it and I decided to have them put a PID on it. Now I'm pulling shots that are better and more consistent. Get the PID! You won't regret it. Then recently my Rocky grinder stopped mid grind on me. I brought it in to Dave. Some people would have just told me to get a new grinder but Dave said he could fix it. The switch was bad. I'm glad I didn't have to chuck the grinder for the environmental impact implications and sentimentality. I almost enjoy when my espresso stuff breaks because I get to stop by and talk to Dave and see all the awesome machines they are working on there. It's worth driving there from the Westside for me because Dave is the best in town read more

Update 2/1/18. I was able to fix my machine myself WITHOUT the help of Hitechespresso. After contacting the manufacturer myself I learned a few things about my machine. Fixing my machine myself was very easy. It costed me about $60 and took about 40 minutes. The part was delivered in two days all the way from London and the owner of the company face timed with me to show me how to do it. Simple. Hitechespresso told me my machine was a LEMON and was UNFIXABLE. That's becuause David ordered the wrong part, and wired it wrong, and cut apart the interior of my machine instead of taking an extra 5 minutes to unscrew the pump and screw it back into the mount. HitechEspresso charged me $900 for something that if done correctly, would have costed him $60 + an intern 40 min to complete. That math doesn't quite add up. I am obviously very disappointed in this service and interaction and demanded I get my $900 back. David told me to take him to small claims court. Is that how you build a reputation? Is that how you interact with customers/people in general? THANK GOD, Hitechespresso isn't fixing cars, or motorcycles cause I wouldn't put my life in their hands.
