A car that won't start caused a last minute cancellation by the stylist at Penney's. Our schedule…read moreis so packed that when Mrs. E. plans hair appointments they pretty much have to happen at that time. A couple of quick calls and we are set up with Kaitlyn at 2:30. These days I'm trying to be more hospitable or extroverted, you could say. During my conversation with Sarah I learned that current owner, Sue, is the second owner, not the first. Maybe I should talk less? As a result of my efforts, I was talked into a tanning session and then they were working on waxing me. Time in a tanning booth is definitely not for me, but, the facility is clean and the experience serene. She also mentioned nails and hair tinting. I went to wait in the car. It turns out Kaitlyn is very friendly and did a great job on my wife's curls. Cheaper than the Salon at Penneys, we're coming back in two weeks. Since they're next door to the buffet at the Szechuan house, that's fine by me. Another big plus is they are within a mile of our place. 12/21

Although I like the 'pandemic roots' trend, I was more than ready to have my color done and Chelsea always does the best job! Many things changed at the salon and understandably so. First of all, they were able to use the lock down time to make some serious renovations and the salon is looking refreshed and airy! I love the new look, the stations are positioned differently and a much brighter color scheme makes it feel much bigger. Don't worry though, the owl leitmotif is still present ;) Many safety precautions are in place, so that we can all feel safe. The human density limits are strictly followed and everyone is required to wear a mask. I was always very confident in this Salon's sanitation practices, but now it is enforced to an even higher standard. They only work by appointment now, so get yours while you can! Beware that they cannot do any blowouts, so you can request a dry cut, otherwise you will need to leave with your hair wet. I was happy they didn't add any surcharge for extra sanitation, but since you don't get the blowout it feels more fair. Some advice: wear a disposable surgical mask when you have your color done, because the ear loops might get messy and might damage your fancy cloth mask. Do not bring any chunky handbags or food in, help keep everything clean. Make sure you know the new COVID-19 drill posted on their website and fill the waiver online. Other than that, relax and enjoy your hair being done! We waited so long for that! Yaaay!

Holly's on Grace is a one-woman beauty salon run by the energetic and friendly Holly Jackson (hence…read morethe name). Her salon is not difficult to find and shares the building with an Angilo's Pizza. It's not fancy, it's not trendy, It's challenging for a guy to review what is essentially a business that women use. Guys go to barbers. Women don't. I'm a guy. I don't have a great deal of hair. I've never had my hair colored, permed, or any other of those things done to my hair, so it's not fair for me to review Holly's for those services. However, I do know many women who could afford to go literally anywhere and they choose Holly and they keep coming back year after year. I think that speaks volumes. Similarly, I could go to IdiotSnips or some other chain - just walk right in - but I don't. With Holly, I call about one week ahead of time and make an appointment (it's more like "find an open slot because she's that busy). When I arrive, I never wait more than two minutes. She just seems to know how to cut my hair (depending on the time of year is baby fine and straight or somewhat wavy and completely has a mind of it's own) and I have always been very pleased. This morning, I arrived at my 11:30 appointment on-time (unusual for me), sat right down in the chair, 15 minutes later I look human again. "And they said it couldn't be done". "And they wuz wrong."
