Partially hidden around the corner of the northside of 44th & Queens Blvd is one of the neighborhood's hidden threading gems in Hira. I first experience her as a customer years ago, and I'm so thrilled to see that she's been going strong. I recently came from an appointment and she is as good as ever. She's since made some updates to the place: it's more modern and there are only two chairs in total. The doors remain perpetually locked until she lets someone in. Brilliant safety move. There is also a small bench for folks who are waiting their turn, but it's a tight space overall. Threading is now $7, which is still substantially more than less aesthetically pleasing spots down the road, but HIra is charming and still does a good job with her sharp corners, precise trimming, and does a good job with maintaining edges, shape-ups, and balanced brows. There is a small bathroom in the back, as well as a private room for additional procedures. Ventilation is a bit on the stale side, but one won't have to wait too long as she churns through folks quickly and efficiently. Credit card is accepted, but like any quality place in NYC, cash is preferred. Do this and collect one of her loyalty cards for a future local's discount. read more

I'm not gonna lie, I almost didn't even want to post this but I'm going to keep the short and say this-- European wax center charges about $22 to do your eyebrows. At Hira I get them waxed and cleaned up with threading for, as of this post in March 2024, $7!!! They also have a little rewards program for returning customers. I love HIRA lash. I go on Tuesdays and Sundays only because that is when my favorite girl, Pinky, is there. She is patient and GENTLE, I am very specific with my eyebrows and she always listens and delivers the result I was looking for. I have really thick hair so I always get a little cut when I get threaded, but it is never intolerable and only is sore for a little, but girlies who thread know that this will happen. You just got to hold your skin as tight as possible to avoid it as much as possible. They also offer soft waxing services, and lash lifts/tints. I suggest calling before you head over which is what I did and say what you would like done. I got waxing done with their chocolate wax which I wouldn't have known about if it wasn't for Yelp. I also, didn't know that they have/ had hard wax which I found out about when I asked. Next time I'll get hard wax because the chocolate wax hurts like crazy. It's much better than soft wax but nothing beats hard wax especially if your pain tolerance isn't that great. Their price point changed from what the sign says in the front, but I guess with the pandemic and all it makes sense. I'll be going back again. read more

I went in to try the eyelash extension service for a wedding I was attending over the weekend. I've gotten my eyelashes done at a few different places and decided to try Hira out since they're so close to where I live now. Tika did an amazing job! My lashes looked long and pretty without looking fake like other places when they make them way too thick. When a few lashes fell off after a couple days (which is normal, but noticeable on my eyes so I went back in), she fixed them up for me right away. Will definitely be going here from now on. A grand opening with 20% off was enough to get me through the door, but the incredible service I received and the fact that it's a mother/daughter owned business will make me a loyal customer. I hadn't threaded my eyebrows in... well, it's embarrassing how long I went without upkeep, so when I saw their sign I took it as a "sign" that I should take care of these hairy caterpillars. I was quickly greeted at this lovely little salon by the mom. She was so nice. Her eyebrow threading technique was incredibly precise and thorough. She didn't speed through it, instead taking her time to make sure it was done right. Then when applying the aloe gel at the end she gave me a little eyebrow massage which was fantastic. I don't particularly appreciate writing a bad review, but I think I should. I had a terrible experience here. I got eyelash repair, but it's almost all gone what she has done. It's been just 4days... She didn't ask me what kind of eyelashes and length I have in mind until I told her. And while I was getting eyelashes, she talked on the phone over my head which was so uncomfortable. After finishing the treatments, I point out where I didn't like it, then she yelled at me said, " I can't see it well. I took more than one hour." Eventually, she said that if I pay in cash ＄60 but if I pay by card ＄65. I hope nobody won't have bad experiences anymore. read more

Went in on a Sunday and was physically harmed from this eyebrow threading experience. I started bleeding while there and was told my skin was too sensitive and that I wasn't holding it properly. I gave this place a shot a month ago since it's so close to where I get my haircuts and I don't regret it. The owner is very friendly and does brows really well. She is also very experienced and has worked for a long time. It is located near the corner of 44th Street and Queens Blvd and close to the Q60/Q32 bus stop along with the 7 train station at 46th Street. Eyebrows cleanup costs $5 and is a very reasonable price! Some places charge way too much for the same thing. She also does facials and other stuff that you would normally find at an eyebrow threading salon. It was my first time ever getting lash lift and brow tint and I think it came out nice and natural. Went to this salon about a week ago for my brows and went back today for a chocolate brazilian wax AND will be continuing to go back here. The service here is great! The salon itself is very clean. Both times I had my services done by Ms. Tika. She is very nice and knowledgeable. She took her time to explain me the different types of waxes there are and what she recommends. This place is small and clean and Tika is incredibly sweet, understanding, and efficient! I had a not-so-great experience getting lash extensions on my birthday a month ago and it made me nervous to get it done again. Tika let me come and watch her apply lashes to someone else to help alleviate my fears, for which I am incredibly thankful. The lashes look lovely and she listened to what I wanted and executed the look, talking me through it and checking in with me the whole time. It was a comfortable experience with no discomfort whatsoever (unlike my last one which hurt a lot and left my eyes irritated). The lashes are stiffer than those which I am typically accustomed to having, so I'm hoping that softer lashes are available for next time. But I can't say enough about Tika and her wonderful service.
