Unique Beauty over by 34th Ave is usually by go-to threading spot, so it felt a little bit like cheating that I came here while I was in the area to get my eyebrows and upper lip threaded before leaving on a trip. There was a bit of a wait when I got here, but before long I was in the chair. The space looks new and is clean and bright. They had a bunch of promotions running and I was tempted to throw an eyebrow tint in there too, but I was short on time and just really needed to cover the basics. My eyebrows came out great, I was happy with the shape and the amount she took off while letting the rest grow out in certain parts. Both services came to only $11 also which you really can't beat. Literally the worst experience I've ever had. She was incredibly rough with my eyes. Every time I would try to explain that she was hurting me should become very defensive. The appointment is only supposed to take one hour and it took almost 2 hours. Results are not what I asked for I asked for an L curl and received a very weak shape. I noticed that she was using a very dirty eyelash serum on my lashes after the service was over. I asked her if she uses this on other people which she quickly got defensive and said no, but it was obviously very dirty and previously used. I have known Hina for 5 years and have been going to her for all my waxing and threading needs. More recently, I tried eyelash lifting and tinting with her and absolutely loved the results!! I needed my eyebrows threaded. It was to the point where I was starting to look like teen wolf. It usually takes me a month or so to get to this point. Since I was doing some work on Steinway, I did a quick search to see what places were around that I could try. Heena's seemed like a decent spot, and even though the reviews were mixed I thought I would check it out. My experience was pretty generic/mediocre and although the person who did my brows did an OK job I wasn't completely impressed with the customer service or the place in and of itself for that matter. Here's a sitch: I took a chance on just walking in. Usually if it was my nails, a massage, a facial, etc., I would make an appointment but this was a quick brow threading. There was nobody in the salon except for a woman getting her hair blown out, as well as two other people that seemed to be waiting for her. They were sitting closer to where she was getting her hair done. When I walked in and asked for my brows to be threaded the woman who was blowing out hair called in the back for someone else to come out to do my brows. She yelled back "five minutes." Being that I walked in I was pretty patient, and instead of 5 min, it was more like 10 min. But again, I did not make an appointment so I didn't think much of this. The person that called out to the back was not that friendly, and when another woman walked in asking if she had time later for a service, she seemed a bit more apt to speak with her. I took that as a good sign, but I was still waiting at this moment. Finally, another woman came from the back to take care of my unruly brows. She did a fine enough job in cleaning them up, but she made several comments on how I waited too long to get them done. She also asked if I tweezed them and I told her I only do the middle. Once I said that she half-heartedly ran the thread through the middle and then said "I can't grab the ones you tweeze", but she didn't try very hard. Finally as I was leaving, she said "next time skip lunch and get your eyebrows done". They weren't THAT BAD. I did not appreciate that in the slightest. The price point isn't bad. It was $6 for just eyebrows. If your a male, it's actually $8. Moral of the story, my brows look ok, but the customer service is slightly lacking here. read more

She does exactly what I request in terms of shape and size, and the lamination lasts me usually 4-6 weeks (I last did it on July for a 2 week summer Europe trip and it even lasted me long after that). The waxing room is in the back and looks a bit grungy compared to other waxing places. They use soft wax and strips. I had a great wax with Heena. The first time I was there was the cleanest wax I had so far. They get all the hair between the butt cheeks. Other places I've been to had not been so thorough. Heena is great and friendly, but Heta is a bit gruff and sometimes doesn't say anything. They get the job done though for a cheap price. I went to Heena and ended up with ITCHY, PAINFUL, BUMPY RASH all over. Very long and painful story short I used to go to Heena herself for years (eyebrow threading) she was kind/ talkative and bragged about her expertise along with quality of products that she offered for affordable prices. Months before my wedding she started to upsell me on a bridal special for full body wax, scrub, facial and massage (BTW: I am not a hairy person or have skin problems). Anyways, 2 months before my wedding, I agreed to it, she had me come in three days before my wedding for two days (the busiest time ever) she didnt analyze my skin or ask any questions. I spent time at her salon over two days to break up the procedures. The day before my wedding (which was the next day) i got extreme rashes all over my skin. The facial she gave me left my face sooo dry with terrible cystic acne that my makeup artist took off my makeup twice to add moisture until it got to a decent state. The worst part of all, I texted her these photos and she NEVER responded. Here I am devastated before my wedding and the person responsible wont even respond to my text to help me understand why this happened. I couldnt even drink at my wedding because i was taking allergy pills and other stuff desperately trying to fix it. I went to her store a week later after my family left, and she was not the same friendly person I once knew, but this stand offish person who goes to me "i was going to reach out to you, but i knew you would be busy" WHATTTTT!?!? ONE OF YOUR CLIENTS WHO JUST SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IS ERRATICALLY BREAKING OUT THE DAY BEFORE HER WEDDING AND YOU DONT CARE TO RESPOND OR EVEN TRY TO HELP? HEARTLESS! She said she wanted to give me a massage to see whats going on, she rubbed some oil on my back and never said why it happened or said anything really, she offered me 3 more massages or oil rub down something like that (appalled at the entire unprofessional experience and my eyes filling with tears- I didnt even know how to respond) I said you know my face was soo dry and had bad cystic acne then she gave me this look LIKE I WAS BOTHERING HER like she just wanted me to go away. Shocked and upset at such unprofessional-ism, i just left and never looked back. I can't help but feel dumb for not seeing the initial signs 1. the place looks very GRUNGY its not clean but looks so run down and old without any real renovation 2. I looked up the products she used on me and couldnt find them anywhere online (who knows what she used on me that caused such a terrible reaction) 3. someone who brags sooo much is overcompensating she even said she was giving me a discount on services because i was her "friend" at the end of the day, this special bridal treatment cost me THOUSANDS of dollars from doctors, dermatologists, creams, lotions, pills, my husband had to buy me new bathing suits for our honeymoon because i couldnt bare to walk out looking like that. Went here for a facial that I got on groupon, not a big groupon fan as it can be hit or miss. Salon is okay. Facial room was out the back up the stairs, Cold, nothing great.The women was nice and the facial was done ok. But she was on the phone for so long through the treatment, answered it at least five times and then she dropped the phone on my head. This is not a lie. I bought a groupon for a blow dry at Heena's just a few weeks ago- I live about a 10 minute walk from them, so it was really convenient and the price was great! I had also stumbled in Heena's once before for an eyebrow threading (which was also great). For my blowout, I had the pleasure of meeting Janice, a lovely hair stylist from the Philippines. After leaving with a wonderful blowout and chatting with her for a while, I decided to return for a much-needed roots touch-up. As a fake blonde, I'm always nervous to try new hair stylists because I've been to so many who don't match the color right, or worse yet- fry my already coarse hair. But, Janice did an AMAZING job on my full set of highlights. The color is GORGEOUS and spread out perfectly even. I came in because I bought their Groupon for three brazilians. It was my first time at Heena's and I'm glad I came :) It's a simple salon and the treatment rooms are basic, but the salon & spa has everything you need for a one-stop shop. The prices here are amazing, and everyone who works here is so personable and pleasant. Heena (the owner) actually made it a point to say personally say hello on my first visit. Although the pricing is great, you get what you pay for. I won't be returning for any hair care or waxing. After my hair was no longer salon styled, I realized that it was neither ombre or balayage. There was no blending, and it was more like chunky highlights had been painted. I actually ended up using box coloring a few months later to cover it. I would rather pay a bit more money for much better quality of work for both my hair an waxes. The blowouts here are on point though :) read more

She stopped 4 times in the middle to do other customers eyebrows. My eyelashes feel hard as a rock like plastic and are hurting. Heena is amazing. Interestingly, she was actually a microbiologist and used to work in one of those big labs (you would know the name, but I'm forgetting). Throughout her life, she has worked in skincare and aesthetics since she was really young. And just had a knack for it. I think it was her aunt who taught her how to do a facial. So, I'm pretty sure the lab closed bc of a large acquisition or something and she opened up the salon. Now she has four. First of all, I was unhappy with my eyebrows and how they have morphed over the past few years and she fixed them back to my ideal shape immediately. I was very nervous to try someone new but I'm so happy I found her. Then, when she spoke to me about skincare and her background, I needed to get a facial from her. Usually, I'm really picky with where I go for facials and who I trust with my skin. I've gotten two so far and they are amazing. Your skin looks and feels so beautiful when you leave. I have no idea where all these 5-star reviews came from, because I've never had a worse experience at a salon, ever. For context, I once had to go to 4 different salons because none could cut both sides of my hair evenly, and I once had half my eyebrow waxed entirely off, so eek. I had a photo shoot, didn't want to fuss with doing my own eyebrows or with straightening the massive curly fluff that I sometimes call hair, and I needed a place that could help me out on a Sunday. Enter Yelp, showing me 4.5 stars for Heena's Salon. I called Saturday and made an appointment for Sunday. The phone call: Me: "Hi, I'd like to make an appointment for eyebrows and a wash/blow dry for tomorrow" Them: "what you want?" Me: "Eyebrows, and also a wash and blow dry please" Them: "with who?" Me: "Whoever is available, I don't mind" Them: "With WHO" Me: "I've never been there before, so I don't care who you schedule me with" Them: "you've been here before? Me: "No...this is my first time..." [This continued for another 5 min or so] [In hindsight, I should have just hung up and called another salon at this point, but for whatever reason I was committed]. Eventually I got my 4pm appointment. I approached Hetal at the front desk (she had her headphones in, rolled her eyes at me): Me: "Hi, I have an appointment for a wash/blow dry at 4pm, my friend also has an appointment". Her: "two of you? [insert super annoyed look]--we don't have space for that" Me: "well, we both called yesterday and you gave us the appointments" Her: *looks in book*, *denies appointments*, *yells at staff: "can you take care of this?* They split us up, and we ended up both getting our wash/blow dry, in a technical (albeit not functional) sense. The woman who did my hair had nails so long I actually have visible cuts on my scalp. I've never had such a painful wash in my life. She stopped straightening my hair halfway and said "your hair is better like this, no flat-iron". It was a flippy floppy frizzy mess, so I asked if she could flat iron it (the whole reason I came was the leave with straight hair after all). She reluctantly agreed, which was unfortunate for me because I had to go home and immediately re-straighten my hair because she did such a terrible job (and used zero product--who straightens hair with zero product?!) Maybe I had a fluke experience? Nope, my partner left semi-traumatized. She said that the woman who did her hair pulled so hard, and actually hit her in the head with the brush so many times that she had bruises. She also had to go home and re-straighten her hair. We were almost late for the photo shoot, so I had to stick with them to get my eyebrows done. Hetal did the threading. She instantly stated "your eyebrows are terrible, like they are very bad, I cannot even fix this". Granted, I did know I needed them done so I wasn't expecting to be a Mona Lisa, but I think her reaction was a bit much, and I definitely wasn't a uni-browed Bert from Sesame Street so c'mon. She then proceeded to do a little threading, told me that I have to come back to her for my eyebrows from now on (because she said only she can fix it). There was no lotion for my red, ouchy eyebrow region, though she did state "I'm not giving you lotion, but i can sell you a packet for $5 if you want". Erm, no thanks? Save yourself the trouble, and go pretty much anyplace else. For eyebrows, there's a place literally next door that is so sweet, does an amazing job, and gives you a nice little facial massage with lotion to soothe your eyebrows afterward. I think I'll take that over insults, derision, and eye rolls anytime. Irony: the business card is stamped "100% satisfaction guaranteed". LOL. I cannot. read more

Very disappointed. I purchased a voucher for 30 min head AND 30 min foot massage, totaling an hour. When i arrived i had two women massage me at the same time for 30 mins total which is not what the package states. As if that wasn't enough both women had a 10 minute conversation with each other over my head while the massage had already started and best part their cell phones had ringers on...One of the masseuse (not sure if i should even refer to them as such) had the nerves to pick up a phone call TOO!!! i spoke to the owner and explained my disappointments and she offered (now here this) a facial for $23 as a special, when a sign outside says $20 for the same HERBAL FACIAL. what kind of compromise is that??? I got my lashes done here, and they were trash, she charged me 120$ for classic lashes and was on the phone the entire time, spitting on my face left and right and had the nerve to ask for a tip and then LATER went on to rant to my friends about my personal life. I booked a normal wash and blow out appointmen. When I got there a lady approached me and was very polite and threaded my eyebrows while I waited to get my hair done. As soon as my eyebrows were done two ladies were going back and forth on who was going to do my hair. The lady that was suppose to do my hair already had someone in her chair blowing out their hair. I waited for someone to then come to me and say "Hi can I see your hair because she doesn't know if she can do your hair" my hair ? I then say "All I'm asking for is my hair wash and blown out" the lady then tells me "she doesn't want to do your hair if she's not confident she can do it" I then look at the lady and see she is blowing out a Caucasian women's hair which is the same service I asked for. I got up and left because if you can not do "my type" of hair then you need to be clear in your services online before having people think you do all forms of hair. and to be clear my hair type is short and straight. I don't have long hair I don't have curly hair. I don't recommend anyone to come get their hair done if you don't have straight hair and you are not Caucasian or their culture. read more

Today I visited Heena's Beauty Salon for the first time. I bought a groupon for medical grade dermabrasion. Due to my hectic schedule, I hardly have any time to treat myself, so I was really looking forward to it. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted warmly. I was then escorted to the room in the back. I quickly felt relaxed, while Heena explained how we can correct the issue with my skin. I must say, that she did a FANTASTIC job! Once finished, I looked at my skin in the mirror, and was amazed at how much my skin had improved after just 1 session!!!! I always have a hard time finding a place I like that makes me feel comfortable. All the ladies here are so welcoming. I've been here a handful of times. The one time that impressed me most was when my best friend and I had made an appointment to get bridesmaid henna on our hands for a wedding in May. the bride called us crying frantically because the henna that her own cousin had done for her at home a day prior never set in. These ladies have such big hearts, they stayed open late past their store hours to correct the at home henna disaster and save the bride's day. Couldn't have been more thankful. Last time I went here for a hair relaxer... The woman gave me such bad chemical burns on my scalp and refused to apologize nor admit that she was wrong. They lie about their qualifications and berated me when I was in clear tears about the hair falling out of my scalp and the pain I was in from the burning. The woman assured me that she knew how to do the treatment, but had no clue. I was a customer here for months before deciding to get this service. If you want a simple blow out- sure.
