I have been going to Dawa for my eyebrow threading for years at their old location but their new location is a huge upgrade - and no stairs to climb (lol). I stopped by early one morning to get my eyebrows done. The Eyebrow Threading ($6) is done really well here. They do great cleanings and don't mess with the eyebrow shape at all. And they're quick! The prices here are reasonable and all within the same range as their competitors in the area. They also have a stamp card that you can use to redeem a free eyebrow threading after 10 visits! I visited Dawa today to get my eyebrows threaded and to get a French gel manicure. The prices were reasonable for the area (eyebrows-6, French gel mani 40). I was very pleased with how both my eyebrows and manicure turned out. The salon itself is spacious and clean. Definitely recommend this place, especially if you live in the area. read more

The woman who claims to be the manager named Seren took a chunk of my eyebrow then claimed I came in that way. Since she messed up the first brow and I called her out on it she half-assed the second. I showed her photos of what my brows looked like before that clearly show no bald spot. She said my hair must be falling out! I'm beyond disappointed in how she handled it. Great place for threading. However, They should definitely reconsider their nails services. I've been coming here for months, and the lady charged me $13 to only remove my gel ( She said 8 dollars to remove it and 5 for cutting my nails). It's the first time I've been to a nails salon where they charge to cut your nails, after removing their gel. This is hilarious, maybe I should pay also for sitting on the chair. Review for Eyebrow Threading Only: I have really thin brows that I've been trying to grow out and reshape. I had so many people do my brows that took off too much hair and I'm traumatized. I had an amazing lady in Astoria who did them but she moved. I tried this place one day and Siri did them. She listened and cleaned them up. She didn't take off too much hair. She was really nice. I went back today but she wasn't there. I asked for someone good 'cuz I have thin brows and Tenzin did my brows. She told me everyone is good and I didn't want to tell her some of the yelp reviews disagree. Lol. I ended up doing my whole face - threading $25 btw. When I said how much is xyz she was honest and said actually that's $23. So I did that instead. I didn't need my whole whole face threaded. She suggested I wax my cheeks instead of thread 'cuz it would hurt less. When I declined she was agreeable. Not pushy. She's gentle and thorough and really sweet. She did a great job. I'd go back to her again. Both women are gentle. Clean and spacious. read more

This place is absolute trash...they do not follow Covid 19 rules for threading eyebrows. The lady was in rush didn't listen to what I wanted at all. Half way through I noticed instead of the string wasn't around her neck it was in her mouth with a mask over it. She said this is how we do it. Do NOT get your nails done here (eyebrow threading, yes). The first two pictures are of the powder gel I got done there. At 9 pm after 2 hrs of them messing up nails and redoing them (and me not having eaten since lunch) I paid and left just wanting to get out of there, letting them know I'd be back to get the messed up nails fixed. That night I realized that ALL the nails were not right, so I went back the next day and asked for a refund. They said that they couldn't. So I asked if they could take them off and do gel instead. They did...that's the last two pictures. Not much better at all. I would NOT recommend getting nails done there. The last pic is of my dirty nail after my pedicure. I wouldn't have complained about this had the manis not been so terrible. read more

I love coming in when it's quiet because they really take their time and it's so relaxing. DAWA is awesome. I've gone here a few times, mostly to get my eyebrows threaded and my lip waxed, but I once came for a spa package which included a manipedi and a facial as well. First and foremost, the place is CLEAN. With all the crazy cheap places in Queens, sometimes this important element is lost on salon owners. Dawa is spotless. Secondly, the ladies who work here are super sweet and attentive, and the atmosphere is calm. I've been to a couple of salons where the women are running around like their heads were cut off trying to help 10 people at a time, but even when they have a rush, I don't feel neglected at DAWA. Thirdly, it's cheap. In fact, the only place that is cheaper than DAWA in the area is the cosmetic school on Steinway. They have awesome specials and packages so you can get the day spa experience without breaking the bank. Love them :) Finally, the end result is great. Never had a problem with the threading or waxing besides maybe a stray hair or two that I didn't notice while I was there that I could easily pluck out myself. read more

I went to this place for my first time manicure, so I really don't have much to expect from. What the result was even worse than my doing it at home. Polish was not evened, my nails were not fully covered, edges were so uneven that I feel like to remove it right away. The reason why I couldn't remove it is because the so called artiest made three of my toes bleed! It hurts so much that I can't even walk straight. It is very hard to find a place where I like (in terms of Beauty) but this place I like. It isn't so visible since it is on the 2nd Floor, but its' a cute and clean little spot upstairs by Subway. I went to see how their threading skills. I was a happy camper when she was finish. I really liked the attention to detail this lady had with my face as she made sure that she took off every visible hair. I also went back to get a quick manicure the next day. Not bad, no complaints. I will definitely come back because they offer lots of service. They do facials, manicure, pedicure, massage, brazilian wax, etc... The only thing they are missing is a Hair stylist (that would be awesome). I hope that this will become my new favorite place because I can get beautified all in one place without running around town to get pretty. Every time I visit it's empty so I love that there's never a wait! I've visited threading salons that felt very unwelcoming but when you walk in here a nice lady says "hello" first! A business employee should always say hello first when a customer walks in so i felt welcomed. I have 1 funky eyebrow i was born with. It just naturally doesn't match the other brow but they work their magic here and shape it to match! They do such good work here. Eyebrow threading is 6 dollars. Upper lip threading is 4 dollars. They also give you a card you can get signed after every visit. 7 visits and you get a free threading! If you use a card they will charge you a tiny fee for that (around 50 cents) and you can add your tip to the card which is convenient! GO for a good threading in a welcoming salon! read more

The reason I gave 2 stars is because customer service is terrible. I was told 6 months ago that if I gave them my phone number than every 10th eyebrow would be free. I went 5 times and each time they put in my phone number so I thought I was accumulating points. Last time I went Siri told me I didn't have an account and she just made it for the first time. When I confronted her she told me this deal is new and didn't exist during COVID (which is a not true). Many reviews have pointed out there is no accountability at this place. Despite the fact that this salon is located above a Subway sandwich shop and the only access is via a grimy set of stairs, Dawa Salon is super clean, bright, and quiet. I go to Dawa to get my face threaded, and I'm always happy with the results. Prices are reasonable, and these ladies are nothing if not thorough. However, at times I feel as though the ladies could be a bit kinder about the way they dish up helpful criticism. They are incredibly blunt when it comes to discussing any skin blemishes or imperfections. I chalk it up to a cultural barrier, or perhaps it's their way of driving sales, but I think there are more tactful ways of attaining the same goals. I had been going here for weeks now (I used to go to Priti women on B-way and since this one's closer to work I changed) but will never return due to their shady, bush-league, pathetic business practices. Went in for a mani/pedi. Forgot the name of the woman who did my nails but it wasn't Dawa herself. So she starts doing my manicure after an uneventful pedicure-- it was a weekday, they were not busy and the price is $18 M-W for mani-pedis (typical in Queens). She asks, as she is about to start, if I want a nail hardening base coat. I say "sure." Then she does two coats of polish and then as she's about to add topcoat she asks if I want quick-dry. I say, sure. I mean, why wouldn't I want quick-dry? Then when I go to ring up, my $21 in hand--figuring 18 for mani and $3 tip, she says, $22. I say, huh? she then says, well, you asked for special base coat and quick dry! WTF?? What kind of shadiness is this? Trying to nickel and dime your customers out of $2? I say, show me where it says "quick dry" and "special base" are extra. She says, well, I asked you for it and it's $2 each. No where on their menu of services is there a mention of extra pricing for "special" top or base coats Then, I said, you should have told me there was an extra charge. If you say, for example, "do you want a bikini wax and a 1-hr facial?" I would PRESUME these are not FREE services because I can clearly see the prices listed on the wall for both. Yet, nowhere does it say quick dry (which is a bottle of polish sitting right next to the other topcoat) costs extra. She keeps to her same innocent line of "you asked for it. it's $2" Like NO, you refused to tell me that it costs extra. To eek out $4 from loyal customers speaks of a middling, low-rent, money grubbing business who regrets offering an $18 mani-pedi and thus finds ways to overcharge customers. They just lost my business, and I hope you stop going there too. read more
