The fairly new lady is very nice but she can't do eyebrows! She cut off the beginning of my eyebrow and it looks so bad.

This spot is great. 30 bucks for a full leg wax and their eyebrow threading and pedis are good too.. Free wifi for when you get a pedi if you're interested. They're really nice and the place is clean. Always smells like Subway bread though, since they are right upstairs from them, lol. read more

This is honestly my most FAVORITE place ever! I have really tricky eyebrows and everyone manages to mess them up. NOT THIS PLACE! OMG. Seriously, my eyebrows always come out perfect. And I could not be anymore thankful and pleased. And they're all soo nice. The location is really pretty and clean. You would think that it would be a hole in the wall, but it truly is not. I'm super particular about my eyebrows and I know I can always trust the ladies at Dawa. They all do an amazing job. It's always very calm inside (I love when they have the Indian music on!) and there is very rarely a wait. It seems like a weird location (right by the train, up dingy apartment stairs, etc) but you forget all of that once you are in the salon. I've always had a good experience here. I do kinda hate when they always ask if I also want my upper lip done but I do understand wanting to add on services. read more

I have been going here three years. They used to have one lady that was amazing for eyebrows, Sunam, she would stop step back, look. She was incredibly meticulous and I barely had to say a thing, she just had a good eye for balance and shape. After she left Dawa, I kept going since it is very convenient. I am particular and overall they do an ok job. One lady is really good and has never taken off too much. Tonight I just had a chunk of my eyebrow taken off the tip. I asked to have two hairs on the right side removed and some on the top of the left, but apparently there was confusion and no need to check, and the tip of the left eyebrow came off as well--it is now very blunt and doesn't come to a point. I was clearly not pleased and the most senior lady there ended by saying, "It's not that bad." Nice ladies and only $6, but not worth the convenience or affordability. read more

I don't even want to give a one star. I called to the place before going there because it was 20 mins before to close. I also checked the price which was $30 for Brazilian waxing. The lady said I can still come, so I went. When I got there everyone was leaving expect the lady. She did waxing really roughly and it super hurt. She seemed rushing to go home. While she was doing, she asked me that I want waxing my back side. And she said it's extra $5. It was so annoying that she didn't tell me when I asked the price instead was telling me while she was doing it. In addition the place is not clean at all. Very clean place with friendly workers. I get my eyebrows threaded here as well as gel manicures. Take a minute to explain how much you want threaded off, and be sure to tell them what shape nails you want. They will always do exactly what you ask. I've been going to Dawa for eyebrow threading since it opened, for three reasons: it's less than a block away, they price is perfect, and the threaders are skilled. I've been to several places in the neighborhood, and this is definitely the best for threading service. The shape is always well done - on the thick side if anything (unless I request more), so I don't really get the complaints about them doing it too thin. If you're worried about it, just speak up before it starts. (Isn't that common sense?) And, if you don't want it to hurt, don't go the week before or week of your period - skin is more sensitive at that time. Makes a world of difference for me. I've also had a pedicure done here; it was alright. Adequate, I'd say, and in accord with the price. Almost never a long wait (like the 30min+ across the street!) But, since I'm willing to pay a little more for nails to get the perks, I don't generally do them here. If you're coming here expecting five-star salon service, with free wine, and whatever else you'd get at an overpriced Manhattan salon, however, don't come. This is a great neighborhood place to go for good service at a price you can afford as fast as eyebrows grow. Dawa herself is as nice as can be, makes everyone feel welcome and pleased to be a customer. I highly recommend. read more

This place is terrible. I went in for eyebrow threading and the person did my eyes so horribly. She didn't care about what she was doing and left one eyebrow waaay thicker than the other. It was beyond obvious. She also created a huge gap in my brow by over threading. She didn't even seem to care and all she said was "well one is thicker than the other to begin". I've been going to Dawa since the day they opened across the street from my old apartment. I love this place. They've recently expanded to include manicures and pedicures. Love this place! The ladies who work here are super sweet and the pricing on threading services is an absolute bargain. I think it was maybe $10 for eyebrow and upper lip combo! I came in with significantly overgrown eyebrows -- there was no extra charge for this and I left looking great! This is definitely a no frills place but the inside was kept clean. The entrance can be a little sketchy at night, probably due to proximity to the subway station but once inside, you're good! I'll be back the next time I need a touch up. read more

Small, cute + clean salon in a great location in Astoria. The ladies do a great job of my brows. I have a favorite (don't we all?), however the 3 times that I have gone I have been satisfied with the shape and thickness even when going to different people. Their massages are heavenly, I also got a mani pedi there. The mani lasted a good week but the pedi that I had gotten had a really watered down color (she had to do 3 coats). I'm sure it was because I had chosen a popular color. But I also wished they do shellac. The downfall for this place is the facial. It is just truly an express facial that's more of a mask and face massage. And when they concentrate so much on the massage, elements of a facial i.e. creams definitely get all up in your nose (as noted by another Dawa review). No real extraction, unless you count dragging an extractor over your t-zone one. I was actually so perplexed by how "express" this was. However, I really love the service, cleanliness + memorable massages. read more

You can't really go wrong with paying $6 for eyebrow threading. Especially when you get your 8th eyebrow done for free! (They keep track of it by phone number). My mom goes here more than I do because we live out of the state but I love the way her eyebrows come out. I used her 8th/free eyebrow and although the woman missed a few hairs, it came out well. They do eyebrows amazingly here. However, I just got a gel French manicure and they did a horrible job. The woman had no idea what she was doing, and she had to redo it because she messed up and had me wait there 30 minutes longer just because of it when I was in a hurry to begin with. Even when she redid them, they still look TERRIBLE! They are uneven and look messy. They charged me the normal price and they did a crappy job. Never coming back here to do my nails. read more

I've been here before and had good threading experiences, but today I had my eyebrows threaded by a girl I was told worked there two days. It was the most painful eyebrow threading experience I've ever had (it was a month since I've been there, could have had more hair than usual). Seems like they need to make sure their employees are skilled, gentle threaders and should not use customers as guinea pigs. I will say that the manager was extremely apologetic. read more

Really bad experience getting my gels removed. The lady used the nail buffer tool on my nails and was NOT gentle. The friction was rubbing so hard against my SKIN and nail. I said ouch and was in pain-- she didn't stop. She moved on to my thumb and did the same thing-- it started to gush blood. About 2 weeks later, and I still have a some scaring from it. I had to flat out tell her to stop and she applied some weird solution to attempt to stop the bleeding. read more

I saw good yelp reviews and rate card on locality.com. I saw that the facial is listed as $60 for 60 min. I called them to find out what is the facial procedure and how long is the massage for. The first person says that it is 45 - 50 min and she cannot tell me the massage duration. The other person tells me to come to Astoria from Manhattan and she will explain the procedure. I told her that I cannot come. Not consistent with what is publicized and quite reluctant to reveal the details. Looking to extract money from you with any accountability. I will never go to such an unprofessional place. I am forced to give one star because there is no option for zero stars. read more

Came here for eyebrow threading, and it was only $6. I have to say the entrance was a little off-putting as it is just a door in between Carvel and Rite Aid, but once you get upstairs into the salon it is really nice and clean looking. I walked in and it was dead quiet. The woman (I am assuming is Dawa) was sitting in one of the chairs waiting for the door. She was very courteous and nice as I told her what I wanted. I have super light and sensitive skin so I usually avoid threading, but I got lazy the last few weeks and I was starting to grow caterpillars on my face. She was able to tame the beasts and get my brows looking back to normal. I have a problem though when I can't really open my eyes if I'm in a little pain so I couldn't really check out my brows for a while after she finished. She gave me some aloe lotion to help with my redness and the sting as well as a little temple rub too. It was a very plesant experience. I think I'd go back and try some of the deals; they have mani-eyebrows for like $14, pedi-brows for $19, I think. They don't do the card anymore though, as noted in other reviews. read more

I absolutely love this place. I came here a few years ago, and again today, and it's just as good as I remember it. Friendly, clean, empty, inexpensive, and they do a great job on everything! I've gotten a facial, threading, massage, and mani and pedi. I also received a complimentary shoulder and neck massage while my toes were drying. I really wish they had a reputable one-stop-shop like this by me in California, since I have yet to find a place that encompasses all of the above. They do an AMAZING job on your eyebrows here (probably the best job I've gotten in NYC). It's also a great spot to get a quick mani/pedi. They are always very friendly, and I usually get taken right away. I don't think I've ever waited more than about 5 - 10 minutes. I highly recommend Dawa! read more

The first time I came here a couple years ago, I unfortunately got someone new who didn't do a good job. I decided at the time I wouldn't come back, but a few months later I decided to give it another try. I told the woman there, who I believe is a manager or owner, that I had a bad experience and she acknowledged the problem (I think she had been made aware), and as far as I know the woman isn't there anymore. Anyway, since then I have been getting my eyebrows threaded there and they do an GREAT job! I've been to a bunch of other places in Manhattan that are way more expensive, and Dawa is much better! I'm sorry that other people had a bad experience :/ but what I can say is that they care about their business, and hopefully if you talk to them, they will rectify the issue. They moved right down 30 Ave across from Trade Fair and the new location is nice! read more
