I really enjoyed Hippopotamus, even though it is not the best steak I have had by a long shot it is a pretty solid place. The service, on the other hand, is hit or miss, the first day we were there, a Monday evening the service was quite good two days later it was abysmal.
Onto the food, all of us ordered the Chateaubriand which happens to be my favorite cut of meat. However, this was not a traditional Chateaubriand but rather a slice cut from it, so a more aptly description would be a filet. The meat was well cooked and the accompanying sauce in my case Bernaise was good - not phenomenal, but good.
Since this is not an upscale restaurant, neither the fries or the sauce was made to order - but more likely pre-made /pre-packaged at least that is what it tasted like.
Comparing it to a U.S. restaurant I would say it's considerably better than TGI Friday's but not as good as McCormick and Schmick's. read more
