Hinano's is the last of the quintessential dive bars with a limited menu and is the classic beer venue where pitchers flow freely as hamburgers are the known food staple with chips, and red and green peppers. Located at 15 Washington Blvd., steps from the beach, they have live acts on the weekends and have a very dedicated following of locals as well as college students and tourists who stop by the beach for a beer. For locals, they offer breakfast, lunch and the same menu in the evening. The have an extensive outdoor seating area that accommodates about 100 and indoors another 100 or so with a long bar, pool tables and friendly atmosphere. Tonight I ordered a burger ($11.50), hot dog ($10) and a Sprite ($3) as the prices have surged and my server was Ashley as I sat outdoors. Since COVID, rarely venture inside. The place used to have great and reliable bouncers, but that is no longer the case. They have at least a dozen regulars I see there every time I stop by. The food is fast and good, and the vibe is hyper local. There number is (310) 822-3902 and rarely do I not know someone having lived down the street for decades. This is the classic, saw dust on the floor neighborhood watering hole by any standard. The bill was $24.50 plus Tax or $25.30 plus a cash Tip of $5 for quick service. A fun little dive bar and restaurant that's perfect after a day at the beach. It's a local favorite with a great drink selection, and they're best known for their burgers. I ordered the World Famous Cheeseburger, and I'd give it a 6/10. At $12.50, it's reasonably priced, but I thought it was just okay. It lacked a bit of flavor and could have used more salt. The ambiance is very angry male centric. I was overwhelmed by the energy walking into the establishment which was very dirty. I was offered a beer by a nice black guy then sat down to watch men play pool. The experience was somewhat enjoyable until some guy shoved his pool stick in my face several times and everyone was laughing. Some other guy pushed up against me and knocked my drink out of my hands. I ended up leaving as the customers were very rude and the bouncer did not care. Misogynistic customers. Maybe it receives a lot of high praise since it's the only dive bar in the area and everything else has been replaced or has seen a face lift. I took a while for me to get an order in and the bar tenders are probably more interested in chatting up some patrons. Anyways back to the food it was alright. What I Ordered: -World Famous Cheeseburger $11 I read online that Hinano has one of the best burgers in all of LA. They weren't wrong, especially for the price. You get a decent-sized burger with all the fixings, some spicy peppers, and a bag of chips for $11. This is an unbelievable deal. You factor in the fact that you are a stone's throw away from the beach. I would easily pay $14 or $15 or more for that burger. It's really a bargain! I love the vibe of this bar. It's a relaxed surfer bar with sawdust shavings on the flour. They have several surfboards displayed on the ceiling for decor. It appears they take cards now despite what other people say online, but you will pay a higher price than cash. It's worth it to pay cash and save money (3% or so). There's an ATM inside as well. The pool table costs $1 per game. There are two pool tables. They only have beer/wine. They do have fireball shots, tho! There's complimentary popcorn for customers. The urinal in the men's room is made out of a mini keg, which is unique and cool. I really dig the vibe here. It's been years since I've been back to this place, but I came here recently to try their cheeseburger. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and the place is pretty packed. There is also live music inside that was playing for a while. I ordered the cheeseburger at the counter near the front and grab the seat inside with a couple of friends. I have to say the cheeseburger was great. Just a solid backyard barbecue style cheeseburger serve with all the fixings like lettuce, tomato and onion, etc. It's pretty sizable so I was only able to eat the regular cheeseburger and got full off of that. I chose the cheddar. Pretty solid value for the price. I'm not sure if you could modify the order, but I don't remember choosing how my burger was prepared or the type of chips, lol. I figured they're so busy and I am not too picky (as well as having faith that the way they want to serve the burger is good) so I didn't really bother. They have a few TVs here so they probably play sports on them (the Copa America was on TV during our visit) and a pretty solid selection of beers. They have a cute outdoor seating area, pool, and is super close to the ocean. The decor is inviting and vibrant, making you feel like you're at a local dive bar on a tropical island. Came from WI to visit a friend and attend the Packers v Rams game. We walked here for breakfast after the other side of the street was out of power. This place reminds me of home a bit and was very inviting and not pretentious at all considering it's in LA. The power went out right before we were ordering! The bartender was so nice and let us order drinks and our breakfast. I got a sandwich and hash browns. Reasonably priced, large portioned, and average quality. The gas flattop grill still worked and we hung out in the dark for a while! Power never came back on but the ATM had battery backup and I was able to pull cash. This is my first time leaving a review anywhere, but I felt compelled to share my recent experience. We had always enjoyed HINANO CAFE until our last visit, which was ruined by one of the bartenders. When we politely asked for water and a drink for someone behind us, the bartender responded rudely with, "Once you own a bar, you'll know how it is" he became very upset and standoffish, his reaction was completely uncalled for and made me uncomfortable, despite the understanding of a busy bar! I understand that the bar is successful and busy, but that's no excuse for keeping employees who mistreat customers. After this incident, we and others decided to leave. It seems the bar may not care because they are making money, but they should reconsider their customer service priorities before it becomes a hostile environment and attracts attention from OSHA under the General Duty Clause 5(a)(1). I was happy to have found a bar with Red Stripe, but disappointed that the beers were regular priced, not the $4 my friend had mentioned (and it was around Happy Hour time). I see a lot of reviews about cash only, but the bartender said they take credit cards now.
