Delicious food and amazing customer service! The food was very authentic, flavorful, and spicy! I have a high spice tolerance, and the hottest spice level was the perfect level, while my family has a fair tolerance and sniffled and sweat a lot at medium spice. You know it's authentic when the spice level scales not by what "white people" consider spicy. My dad expressed how the food was much hotter as expected when the waiter came by to check on us, and the waiter then brought out raita to help him out with the spice. The server was so thoughtful for that and brought it out without asking! The food was amazing and the waiters are so compassionate. One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. read more

This was a surprise to see in Rapid City. The food was amazing and the portions huge. We started of with Samosa. Wonderful and delicate. I had the chicken coconut Korma and my husband the lamb Biryani. The aromas that made my mouth water wafted to the table when they presented our dinners. Had dinner here during our trip to Mt Rushmore and the Badlands. We were staying very close to the restaurant and hence decided to try it out.they had excellent options for vegetarians. The samosa chaat was nice. The malai kofta and garlic basil naan was outstanding. The paneer pakoras were a little dry for my liking. But the friendly staff was what stood out in the restaurant. They were amongst the most friendly staff I have seen in any restaurant in the US. Have not been to the other Indian/Nepali restaurants in the area to compare, but will definitely recommend this to any desi visitor in the area. read more

While on a business trip Hubby & I wanted something yummy, filling and flavorful so visited Himalayan Kitchen based off the reviews. We ordered 2 Lamb Samosa as an appetizer that we split. They were delightfully delicious. Seasoned with perfection to the point we almost ordered another round but we knew we needed to save space for the main entree. I ordered chicken curry with medium heat and hubby had a combination rice dish that included shrimp (prawns), lamb, and chicken with mild heat since they told us this dish has some heat already in it. I love spice but that medium is right at my top gauge for heat. It even made my nose run. I tasted Hubby's dish, his lamb was so tender and the shrimp were huge but the combination of ingredients created a flavor-gasm in our mouths. We also order Naan which was warm & tasty. Now their Himalayan tea was bursting with refreshing spices although my only complaint is it comes sugar free and you have to sweeten it yourself. Now I may be biased but I live in the South where our tea comes already sweetened to the point that if you don't have a problem with sugar you might think you will need help once you are done with your southern sweet tea. Now I wasn't that annoyed as I had been doing a Ketogenic diet for months so usually I carry my own liquid Stevia or Monk Fruit but I left it behind & they didn't have any Splenda so I was forced to use a combo of Sweet n Low & regular sugar. LOL, nonetheless it didn't disappoint once I was able to get it to a tolerable sweetness. The staff is super friendly or can I say pretty amazing with their customer service. They checked on us regularly with a smile. So if you are in the area & need a great meal packed with flavor that will leave you gluttony satisfied then do yourself a favor and stop by Himalayan Kitchen. read more

My husband, sister and her husband and I ate here about a week and a half ago for the first time. This is by far the best Indian food in Rapid City and maybe the best Indian food I've had. I had the Lamb Korma, my husband had the Lamb Masala. Both dishes were excellent. We also had the cheese naan which was perfectly made, and accented our main courses so well. My sister and brother in law had an ice tea and I had a taste, it was perfectly spiced. We also had my daughter who is one with us and the server played with her and helped to entertain her. She also loved the food and if you have any experience feeding toddlers then you know how difficult it can be to please their picky palettes. We are on our way tonight for the second time and I can't wait to sample more of their menu! read more

I was passing through Grand Rapid on business and feared I would have to eat at the standard fare of chain restaurants while staying in such a small city. I did not expect to find such a great restaurant in Grand Rapid let alone one that served Indian food which is my favorite. Some people from the area told me this restaurant had been at a previous location and offered mixed reviews. What ever the case may have been before this new restaurant is fantastic. Service was spot on and the food was delicious, although I am partial to the vegetarian dishes myself. I travel a lot throughout the year, eat at many places and this is some of the best Indian food I have had. Highly recommend stopping here at least once while in the area. Was very surprised by this restaurant, the taste was great. We are very picky when it comes to Indian food and we will order from here again when we are back in town. The tandoori chicken, butter chicken and naan had great flavor and perfect spice level. The only thing we can complain about is the price, it's $1-$2 more per item then other major cities. read more

What a treat! An authentic Indian restaurant in SD! I did not know much about Rapid City but I did not expect a delicious Indian dinner. Garlic naan was fresh and just right (for me) in texture. Wow! This was so good! I had the Malai Kofta which is a vegetarian dish (and I'm not vegetarian) and my husband had the Chicken Coconut Korma. Definitely, some of the best we've had in our travels. We were in Rapid City last year and ate at a couple of other Nepalese/Indian restaurants and this was hands down our favorite. We will be back the next time we're in town. You gotta go! read more

My husband and I tried this place for the first time last night. Wow it was delicious, and we highly recommend! Warning the food "medium" is very spicy so go with mild if in doubt. The prices seem a little high, but my husband said it was worth it, and he is very picky because we cook with spices and don't like bland yucky food. The cheese Naan is like a cheese tortilla and nothing special, but our main dishes were great, and we wished we saved the Naan to eat with our main course. Recently my wife had a little correct of surgery, and during her recuperation she requested that I pick her up some samosas. In town for one night, we came across this most wonderful restaurant. It was my husband's birthday and we were not disappointed. Let me start with iced tea, definitely try that, it's like nothing you've ever had. We had the veggie samosas, and yum, yum, yum. Honestly if this was my first time trying Indian food, I would've hated it. I had high hopes since this place had such high reviews but as an Indian food enthusiast thats had it in Asia, California, and various other places as i road-tripped to South Dakota--here's my honest review: - not flavorful. The butter chicken was spicy (I ordered medium) but that was the only flavor. The seasonings are severely lacking and was the first time I had such an unpleasant experience with Indian food. I usually inhale my meal in a second since I love it so much but I actually struggled to continue eating the butter chicken from here. There is no seasoning. The curry was also an odd shade of neon orange.... Like artificial coloring was added. - extremely overpriced. The rice is not as plentiful as another Indian restaurant here in rapid city (it's also a much better restaurant, will never be straying from there again) and you also have to buy naan separately as it's not included. Usually this isn't an issue but with how expensive this place is, you would expect the portion to be larger. Well it's not, so you expect some extra sides. Unfortunately no, the side of rice is actually smaller than most restaurants give. - the lamb samosas usually can't go wrong, but somehow this restaurant does. It's extremely salty. Taking a bite was like breathing in a whole salt shaker. Why in the world do they make it so salty? Hours later after taking a few bites of the samosa the remnants of saltiness are still lingering in my mouth. Bleh. - naan portion is smaller than other restaurants, yet more expensive. - they also don't provide utensils, you have to specifically ask them to. - my husband ordered lamb curry which he absolutely loves from other places. But with this one he didn't even touch it again after the first few bites because of how drenched in oil it is. It's extremely greasy and even just handling the containers has your hands slick with oil. - it gave me food poisoning. I immediately felt off in the middle of the meal, sickly. And now the toilet has become my new home for the past few hours. The amount of oil and grease in the food probably doesn't help. Overall the food here is borderline inedible if you're actually familiar with Indian food. I'm assuming the other reviews have never had Indian food before or usually can't enjoy seasoning/spices in their food anyway so they opt for mild and are fine with it. I personally love Indian food for their spices so this restaurant is severely disappointing. And very true to definition, overpriced. Would never, ever eat here again and I really want to save you from eating here as well because of how disappointed I was. Please, there's much better options here. Always more than impressed with this place. I've eaten here numerous times and everything is always hot and full of flavor. You can tell the owner cares dearly not only about the restaurant but about the customers and their experience while dining there. Stopped by for dinner while visiting Rapid City. Lovely decor and friendly, efficient service. Many choices on the menu. I had the sampler pattern and my husband had the lamb vindaloo. He loves very spicy food, and this certainly was that. The sampler platter was excellent with several different items. The portions on both items were very generous. Fairly priced and good quality food. Talked with the Nepalese owner when we were leaving, as I have been to Nepal twice. Very interesting man with a great story. Suggest even if you like "Hot" order mild not medium - I'm a Hot peppers Hot sauce guy but medium still is mucho hot - need beers or yogurt to take out some heat! I've been to the other 2 Himalayan restaurants Rapid has to offer. Everest no long serves chicken momo and HK did so if I figured I'd try it out with some chicken saag and naan. I was so disappointed. Everest and Kathmandu Bistro were so much better. I really had high hopes for HK. read more

Were staying in Rapid city during Spring break and looked up Indian restaurants online, also saw their ad on the way. Nice ambience , the we were seated promptly. Nice authentic Indian food, being an Indian, while ordering asked for "Indian Spicy" level and the food served was perfect. The Himalayan Naan basket was the top pick. read more
