We stopped here after a long flight because it seemed to be the only Korean restaurant we could find in Rapid City and we were starving. Having lived in Korea I am biased, I'll say this definitely didn't taste authentic to us. Plenty of parking. It's in an empty shopping strip in the back. We ordered the spicy tofu soup with beef, spicy pork and bibimbap. The spicy tofu soup tasted more like a miso soup base with added spice rather than a traditional soondubu flavor. Since the restaurant also serves Japanese food, I'm guessing they may use the same base. The beef was sliced very thin, and for almost $20 I wouldn't order it again. The spicy pork was also disappointing because the first flavor that hit was vinegar. It tasted overly acidic and heavy-handed rather than balanced and spicy. Banchan was good. The banchan portions were pretty small for 3 adults and 2 kids. We could have asked for more, but honestly by that point we were just ready to finish eating and leave. Service was okay. They were polite enough, just more direct than warm. Not rude, but not the kind of hospitality we're used to in the South. Overall, if you're craving Korean/Japanese food in Rapid City, this may be your only option, but don't go in expecting authentic Korean flavors. This unassuming little storefront is a hidden gem. It's a one-woman show and she's been in business here for 17 years and before that, in California for 23. The shrimp tempura appetizer was absolutely the best shrimp I've ever eaten. My Bibimbop was the perfect balance of veg/rice/protein and delicious. My husband ordered the pot stickers and combination platter for dinner and he couldn't actually finish all of it. Every bite was spectacular. Everything is made from scratch and I mean everything. We had ordered seaseme chicken meal with cucumber kimchi and a double order to veggie tempura. The lady that answered the phone was trying to rush us to order and very impatient. Our veggie tempura was under cooked and my seaseme chicken over cooked with mushy rice and hot vegetables salad. I was only able to eat the kimchi. We were highly disappointed and very unsatisfied with the service and food. This restaurant used to be awesome and now it is not worth it and would recommend staying away from it. read more

We have driven by Kang San numerous times, so we finally decided to try it. The food was amazing, it's a very small restaurant, we were the only one's there so service was very quick. Only issue was we went on a very hot day and there was no air conditioning or if there was it was very minimal so it was uncomfortably hot in there. My husband and son got the beef stir fry with noodles and my daughter got chicken stir fry with noodles. I ordered the Sesame Chicken Lunch box (came with a side salad and rice) this was absolutely amazing! The breading on the chicken was crunchy and had an amazing flavor. My husband said he's getting that when we go back. We also tried fried and steamed potatoes stickers, shrimp tempura, cabbage and cucumber kimchee. I was super excited to see an Asian establishment serving Korean dishes in the area, but It all goes down hill when you receive dead salad lettuce from a Walmart bag with ranch as sides with bland meat that's probably been steamed due to it not having any type of char or crust. Small operation, big flavor. I had the Lunch special, Korean beef which came with rice and a salad. Everything was fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. Pretty decent place.. The menu is pretty small and so is the restaurant. The food is really good although they don't have traditional bul-go-gi which was weird. You would think a Korean restaurant would have that dish. They did have bi-bim-bap though which is one of my fav Korean dishes so that made up for it. Also no matter how busy it is or what and how much you order they wait is almost always 15mins lol its ran by one lady and her daughter from what I've seen so it's pretty impressive. Really good, my only complaint is the place isn't always open when I feel it should be, or when it says it's supposed to be. But the food is always good.
