We stopped here after a long flight because it seemed to be the only Korean restaurant we could find in Rapid City and we were starving. Having lived in Korea I am biased, I'll say this definitely didn't taste authentic to us. Plenty of parking. It's in an empty shopping strip in the back. We ordered the spicy tofu soup with beef, spicy pork and bibimbap. The spicy tofu soup tasted more like a miso soup base with added spice rather than a traditional soondubu flavor. Since the restaurant also serves Japanese food, I'm guessing they may use the same base. The beef was sliced very thin, and for almost $20 I wouldn't order it again. The spicy pork was also disappointing because the first flavor that hit was vinegar. It tasted overly acidic and heavy-handed rather than balanced and spicy. Banchan was good. The banchan portions were pretty small for 3 adults and 2 kids. We could have asked for more, but honestly by that point we were just ready to finish eating and leave. Service was okay. They were polite enough, just more direct than warm. Not rude, but not the kind of hospitality we're used to in the South. Overall, if you're craving Korean/Japanese food in Rapid City, this may be your only option, but don't go in expecting authentic Korean flavors. It gets the job done and belly full so that's a plus. read more

Kang San - Table in the back - Korean Near Me - Box Elder, South Dakota

This unassuming little storefront is a hidden gem. It's a one-woman show and she's been in business here for 17 years and before that, in California for 23. The shrimp tempura appetizer was absolutely the best shrimp I've ever eaten. My Bibimbop was the perfect balance of veg/rice/protein and delicious. My husband ordered the pot stickers and combination platter for dinner and he couldn't actually finish all of it. Every bite was spectacular. Everything is made from scratch and I mean everything. The lady is so nice...always busy but frequently checking in. Try it! You will be glad you did. The pictures of satisfied customers all over the walls make it festive and homey. read more

Over cooked and no flavor and very dry! Nice employee but could work on food presentation

Food was very good! Homemade Kimchi was excellent. Had the Bibimbap and all ingredients were well prepared, fresh and delicious! The 2 person staff were kind and professional. Restaurant was clean and while minimalistic was comfortable. read more

What an amazing place! This is authentic as it gets. The food was phenomenal, quick service, very friendly owner/chef/staff. It was a one woman show while we were there and she was great!! We will be back. read more

The food is fast, and super tasty. I've been coming here since I was in High School. Still delicious

I was very impressed with this small out of the way place. I highly recommend checking it out. Food was cooked correctly, and was extremely good. I was looking for a decent Japanese restaurant so thought I would check it out - WOW! I will be back. It is very fairly priced and the servings are the perfect size; some can probably get 2 meals out of it. Service was amazing as well - support this small local restaurant when you can. read more

I got the beef bulgogi. The meat had no seasoning. It tasted like it was thawed in a pot of water to speed up the process. The Korean vegetable dishes were smaller than other places and did not taste read more

Authentic Korean food. Large portions and the standard side dishes of assort kimchi. The chicken fried rice was the best I have had since being in Korea. Service was quick and place was filling up quickly during lunch. Not a fancy place but great food read more

We had ordered seaseme chicken meal with cucumber kimchi and a double order to veggie tempura. The lady that answered the phone was trying to rush us to order and very impatient. Our veggie tempura was under cooked and my seaseme chicken over cooked with mushy rice and hot vegetables salad. I was only able to eat the kimchi. We were highly disappointed and very unsatisfied with the service and food. This restaurant used to be awesome and now it is not worth it and would recommend staying away from it. read more

We have driven by Kang San numerous times, so we finally decided to try it. The food was amazing, it's a very small restaurant, we were the only one's there so service was very quick. Only issue was we went on a very hot day and there was no air conditioning or if there was it was very minimal so it was uncomfortably hot in there. My husband and son got the beef stir fry with noodles and my daughter got chicken stir fry with noodles. I ordered the Sesame Chicken Lunch box (came with a side salad and rice) this was absolutely amazing! The breading on the chicken was crunchy and had an amazing flavor. My husband said he's getting that when we go back. We also tried fried and steamed potatoes stickers, shrimp tempura, cabbage and cucumber kimchee. The proportions are VERY large especially for the price. We have been craving it and wanting to go back, just going to wait until the temperature cools down a little. read more

I love the lady there she is a solo cook and the owner. Her food will blow you away especially the chicken udon. Even on a hot day it warms your soul. I can't wait to have it on a cold day. read more

Small and modest, tucked away but very busy during lunch time. A local favorite Im told by airmen across the street at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Try the BiBinBap. The udon has the most comforting soup. Worth it to go and support this local gem. The owner knows a lot of customers by their first name. Love that. read more

I was not as satisfied with my meal as I have been in the past when I have ordered at this restaurant. The food was OK and I felt like I was intruding on their space when I went in there to order. read more

Awesome awesome place! The food is just incredible. The local family that has been running it from day one are just the sweetest people ever. I sadly am not in impressed with the portion vs. the price. Very very small portions. I would not recommend the 15 dollar soup.... you literally get a small bowl. Everything else is just on point! read more

Great food and the owner is incredibly lovely! The banchan are awesome! Can't recommend it enough.

What a FIND! A very quaint, cozy place- great value, generous portions, and authentic cuisine. If you're a kimchi fanatic you'll love their spread with the grill menu. Also highly recommend the sesame teriyaki chicken - amazingly crispy and delicious. Service was wonderful and personable. Can't wait to go back!! read more

I love kang San and how the lady in there runs it all by herself. That deserves 5 stars itself. That's hard work and dedication plus the food is good with a various range of foods to try such as tempura , rice, vegetables, etc. read more

Absolutely Great Food, some of the Best I've has from all over. Guess depending on if you have a certain taste for Japanese and Korean style, she makes everything homemade sauce. Number 36 I highly recommend for the Beef lovers, we've just ordered 3 time's. That's our favorite personally. This place is an awesome find, we usually can never get a good authentic taste without the MSG. So, Enjoy if you get a chance to be close by Ellsworth Airforce base. read more

Kang San - Kang San Japanese and Korean homemade Awesome Food - Korean Near Me - Box Elder, South Dakota

Best sesame chicken I've ever had! & the woman who runs it is always amazing! I would definitely recommend anyone who wants some good Asian food to try it out! read more

I was super excited to see an Asian establishment serving Korean dishes in the area, but It all goes down hill when you receive dead salad lettuce from a Walmart bag with ranch as sides with bland meat that's probably been steamed due to it not having any type of char or crust. Sad and nasty. Udon Noodles were adequate though, but the broth had no flavor, only the slight essence of dish soap. read more

Kang San - Korean Near Me - Box Elder, South Dakota

If you live in Box Elder then you know we don't have many options for eating out. We tried this place on a whim.....best....whim...ever! I would travel from around the area to come to this restaurant. Just one precious lady that runs it. Serves and cooks. All fresh food and her own homemade sauces. I feel fortunate to have this place right here in Box Elder read more

I was looking for a quick meal so I thought to try this place out. I ordered the bi bim bap and it wasn't good. Meet had no taste. Very bland. Only thing that had much flavor was the kimchi. Egg overcooked and just wasn't appetizing. I did order the fried dumplings and those were good. My meal was $19 something. Wouldnt go here again.. Sadly read more

Small operation, big flavor. I had the Lunch special, Korean beef which came with rice and a salad. Everything was fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. The facility is a bit run down and cramped, but that doesn't keep the woman who works there from cranking out good food. I will definitely return to try more items. read more

I've had a lot of Bulgogi over the years including two tours in Korea. This was easily the worst ever. Dried out, gamy beef flakes with day old rice. Flies everywhere with the front door wide open. Disgusting experience. read more

If they still offered Kal-bee, this would be a 5 star review! However, the food is still excellent and a wonderful change from what you usually find in Box Elder. This place is right next to City Hall in the Villa Ranchero, and mainly serves Ellsworth AFB personnel. The kimchee is great, the rice is wonderful, and I love the steamed mung beans! read more

Good food and friendly, prompt service. I found this little storefront place just outside the Ellsworth AFB gate on advice from a friend and had a good lunch. The iced tea is really good--fresh made oriental-style tea poured over ice. Bi-bim-bop (meat and veggie bowl) was full of marinated beef, fresh veg, kimchee and rice. I'm used to that dish in a sizzling bowl, but it was A-OK without. read more

Def one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Always good authentic korean food. Love the clear, super thin sweet potato noodles with beef and veggies (cant recall the name)... So good Im going to order it to go again right now! read more

Ordered the sesame chicken and couldn't eat it. The chicken was crispy burnt with no flavor and after one bite I was done. I gave the plate back to them and the cook was upset saying she had just made it and I should be happy. Will never come back. read more

Pretty decent place.. The menu is pretty small and so is the restaurant. The food is really good although they don't have traditional bul-go-gi which was weird. You would think a Korean restaurant would have that dish. They did have bi-bim-bap though which is one of my fav Korean dishes so that made up for it. Also no matter how busy it is or what and how much you order they wait is almost always 15mins lol its ran by one lady and her daughter from what I've seen so it's pretty impressive. Haven't had a chance to go back for any pics but it's worth the visit of your on base. read more

Really good, my only complaint is the place isn't always open when I feel it should be, or when it says it's supposed to be. But the food is always good. Korean food is one of my favorite kinds, so it's nice to have it here. Other bases we have been to didn't have good local Korean, so I'm thankful. read more
