The food is amazing! We went to South Dakota to travel and ate there once and have been missing the taste ever since. We went to lots of Napel and india restaurants in the Bay Area too but none of them are even close. For example the tandoori chicken, here uses a smaller chicken, super tender and flavorful, we enjoyed it eating without any sauce. Normal Indian restaurants have tat chicken so big and not much flavor. Not to mention a few other dishes: you have to try the nann basket with the cherry coconut filling one. Too good. read more

The service was fantastic, the prices were more than reasonable for the amount of food we got, and we asked for spicy food and actually got spicy! :) I had the mushroom mutter and my husband had lamb curry. The staff were super friendly, and very knowledgeable with gluten free and dairy free options. Serving portions are large and can be shared family style. I've had Indian food and the spices used in these dishes were different, but in a good way. My favorite part of the whole meal was the vegetarian Samosas (not gf). They were filled with peas, potatoes and herbs, which came with 2 dipping sauces, mint and tamarind. My favorite sauce was the tamarind. You must try these delicious pockets! The food had great flavor, however the Chicken Biryani was too spicy, we ordered medium heat. I like some kick to my food, but my nose was watering and mouth was on fire, making it hard to enjoy my meal. I recommend going mild, and if it's not spicy enough, ask for some more spicy sauce to add to your dish. Another thing to note, you will get a mixture of dark and white meat when ordering the chicken biryani. We ended our meal with some traditional Nepalese desserts. Rice pudding & mango ice cream (sorbet). Both great choices but totally different. If you're more of a fruity person, go with the ice cream. The mango is FRESH. read more

Amazing food and service. Just had vegetarian- I do that every 20 years or so... Yellow lentil daal was very good. Panneer dipped in garbanzo flour and fried was super tasty with the mint and the tamarind sauces. Onion kulcha was over the top fantastic, Service was gracious and relaxed. You must eat here. I drank Fat Tire. "Mild plus" was pretty hot. Not a white guy level of mild. I thought I liked things fairly spicy but this was plenty spicy for me - as spicy as I'd want it. I've been in this building MANY times. It was my favorite childhood Chinese place. Once it became Himalayan kitchen they didn't change from Hunans and I wish it'd never changed. The food flavor drops and isn't that depth of flavor it typically in within this cuisine. Not to mention the MASSIVE cuts of veggies (not that I'm really complaning about the size but still, a literal tree?) I don't have a picture as this time I stayed home and ordered pick up which is really really lacking. $15 for veg curry for bland, uninviting meh, with just plain (no [censored]) basmati rice. Just disappointed. Also I've notice a few reviews about people eating the naan. It is not vegan. They make it with lactose free milk but their brand is not a plant milk. This is still cows milk but reduced lactose to avoid the allergen. And the worst part is that towards the end of my meal I found a cube of their house made paneer. read more

We had been driving down from Montana for 4 hours, were hungry and were searching for an Indian restaurant. We picked this one as it had 4.3 star ratings. We decided o have a thali (it's a plate with an assortment of menu items) and asked the lady serving us what would we get? She told us that we would get two curries, 1 roti, rice, poppadam and 1 dessert. Then she asked us if we would like 1 or 2 roti - my husband asked for two assuming that since it is included, she was asking how many. Then when it was time to pay at the counter the person says roti is NOT included in the thali meal! He calls the lady who was serving us and she denies having said roti was included! Now he says it was a miscommunication and apologizes but still insists that she did NOT say roti was included. What ever happened to "Customer is always right"? He went ahead and charged us for the rotis.....any other place would NOT have charged for the rotis! When you first walk inside you see a small award/ placard that says "Best in rapid 2021". In short, the sign doesn't lie. The place had a warm cozy atmosphere that hits you when you first walk in. The staff and the service was inviting and attentive. The food, served family style, was a nice balance of spicy and flavorful. I highly recommend getting something saucy like butter chicken to go with their rice and side of their freshly baked naan bread which is to die for. I'm a fan of butter chicken and this place really did it right! It was perfect. this place ain't messing around with spices. they poured it on! We ordered the chicken and shrimp medium and they set us on fire. The fried vegetables were great but the sauce was really the Star! Sweet and tangy.....yum! The naan was homemade and every piece was heaven. It helped cut the heat from the other dishes. If you order spicy anything from here do so at your own risk. Really good food! The menu has the traditional Indian food plus the Himalayan dishes (many vegetarian options). Prices are reasonable and the taste is pretty good. Butter chicken is my favorite (yes, I know it's basic, but I love it). They'll make it to your spice-level liking, and it has always been great. Sometimes chicken in dishes like this can be tough or over cooked, but that's never been the case for anything I've ordered at HK. The dumplings are interesting...I ordered them when getting takeout one time, sight unseen. They are basically a large potsticker but the filling is classic Indian/Nepalese flavors. Did a carry out while visiting Rapid City from Iowa. We checked ratings online for the top three Indian restaurants (actually, all run by Nepalese so not technically Indian) and Himalayan had highest rating. Ordered over the phone after reading their expansive menu items and I must say that the Rapid city residents have no idea how India/Mughalai food tastes to give 5 stars to this pathetic food! Who the heck adds curry to Kadai chicken (see attached picture from the trash can)?? We dumped, literally dumped pretty much the whole food except Garlic Naan (Bread). There is no taste, absolutely no taste of the food. Owner and the cook, at the minimum, should eat one of the frozen/packed Indian food items that are sold at costco or whole food Asian market section, even the Walmart sold Indian dishes taste thousand times better. They should just say it's a Nepalese restaurant and not spoil Indian food image. Trash food! read more

We arrived in Rapid City on the Thursday before the 4th of July weekend and had Himalayan Kitchen on our To Do List. We had an amazing meal of Lamb Curry and Lamb Vindaloo. The spinach naan was also crisp and flavorful. The owner seated us and had incredible pride in his food. We were so impressed that we made plans for a return visit on Saturday night .
