I'm very happy that the owner takes the time to read customer reviews and genuinely cares about feedback. He addressed my comments about the takeout presentation and has made noticeable improvements to how orders are packaged and served. This is still one of the best Indian restaurants in the High Desert, and I continue to dine here regularly. Their new indoor area for dine in also very well done I wish him the best.

Staying in Apple Valley during a high desert sojourn, I was very impressed with the quality of the food and the service at Himalayan Indian Kitchen. I ordered dinner delivery to my Airbnb; everything arrived promptly and perfectly packaged. Most importantly, everything was delicious. Butter chicken: The incredibly rich, delicious curry sauce feels like a meal in and of itself, even without the tender bits of chicken. Put them together and you're in heaven. You are able to adjust the level of spiciness to your liking. Must order! Garlic naan: Arrived steaming hot, delicious, perfect pairing with the butter chicken. Vegetable pakoras: Tasty vegetable snacks arrived with two delicous chutneys, tamarind and cilantro, in generous portions. Highly recommended if you're in the area. And that butter chicken is probably drive-worthy.

Staff really friendly, food is amazingly flavorful! Such a hidden gem!! They have food to choose from kinda like a Chinese restaurant where you can order 1 to 3 item combos, as well as made to order. Totally reccomend this establishment, very authentic and delicious! Here's what we ordered: Butter Chicken Chicken Momo (we dipped it in our Butter Chicken sauce) Garlic Naan Tandoori Chicken And basmati rice of course! Clean restaurant, plenty of parking, no public restroom, limited seating but worth it 100%

First time a this place. I ordered the chicken and rice, or how they call it, biriyani. It was delish, a bit spicy, but perfect for mi likings. Definitely will come back to try something else next time.

The food here is so good! The paneer was delicious, and I liked the size of the pieces. The rice was also good especially with the sauce. I also got a chai, and I appreciate that they sweeten theirs because I love a sweet chai. It was warm and spicy and so delicious. I've also enjoyed the kheer from here, very delicious as well. The workers here are really nice, so I will definitely be back :)

This is now our go to for Indian food. The owner and staff are ALWAYS amazing to us and the food has NEVER been a let down. I've tried things I never normally would have and even then it wasn't bad in taste, just not something I would pick. I can't recommend this place anymore. Our favorites are the butter chicken, lamb/chicken korma, garlic naan, lamb/chicken tikka masala. I've tried the chili chicken, chicken momo, tandoori chicken, dahl makhani, and some haven't ended up favorites that is not to say they were bad! I plan on trying more things.

Lowkey some of the best food I've had--absolutely fire Service was on point too. The owners are super sweet, it honestly felt like pulling up to a family's house and sharing a meal together.

Finally got the chance to try Himalayan Indian Kitchen's, and let me tell you their food is chef's kiss. The butter chicken and with the Garlic Naan combined was sooo good, I also got curry chicken very yum as well. As for drink I got a super yummy creamy Mango Lassi as my dessert since I was so stuffed. The inside is super clean and neat which I loved, another thing is that the vibes inside are chill and calming even while the staff was cooking. Oh and everyone that works here are so sweet and friendly, definitely RECOMMENDED Last thing I'll say is the prices are great.

Delicious food. Absolutely 100% delicious. Naan was fire. Butter chicken and tiki masala also fire. The hospitality is always there. The owner is so beyond friendly every time I go. I tried the spicy butter chicken this time and he saw I was mixed emotions on the spice level so he brought me some tiki masala to mix in it. Exactly what I needed to mellow it out. Amazing people amazing place amazing food. 10/10 will always go back.

I've come to this place twice and I am always greeted by a nice gentleman, he was very attentive to our visit. Food was so good I didn't get a chance to snag a photo of my meal. The chicken Tikka Masala was so delicious, the medium spice was perfect for me. I loved the vegetable samosas as well. Will be coming back more! Don't forget to try the mango lassi!

Well, this restaurant is a nice addition to this side of the desert, and I am all for it! This Himalyan Indian Restaurant is for the open-minded and those seeking flavor, but if you are not sure or curious about its flavors, I recommend you order one of the 3 combos offered. You not only get to visually see the dishes (as Indian food is not always visually pleasing to those who are not familiar), but selecting a combo will give you an opportunity to try a few dishes. Of course, my friend opted to order the meals in hopes of sharing our chosen dishes, and I say, for about $70, we got our money's worth. Unfortunately, they serve such meals in to-go containers, so sharing a meal was tricky but convenient to pack when I couldn't finish my Yellow Daal and Saag Paneer. I blame my fill of Mango Lassi and Naan. Mmm... Mango Lassi...think of the taste and texture as a melted mango yogurt, but cold. Are you confused yet? Let me explain. First, there are dishes I was not familiar with, so the customer service was very helpful in giving me an idea of what each dish was like. It is helpful if you were already familiar with Indian food, but if not (or just curious) and you already read this far in my review, I suggest searching the internet for descriptions of unfamiliar dishes. We were informed, with the exception of the Tandoori Chicken, that all the chicken dishes are boneless. I recommend the savory Chicken Korma, chicken simmered in a curry style sauce made with coconut. You can choose your spicy: none, mild, medium...and maybe for the more adventurous, a regular amount of spice. Yellow Daal (which I was craving) is a lentil based dish. Lentils come in various colors and flavors, and this one was yellow. I ordered it without spice and still enjoyed it. Saag Paneer has always been my favorite. I also opted not to have this dish spicy, and I loved it. So good! Again, it's not a visual dish, but I do love a good stewed spinach dish with cubes of cheese (usually goat cheese). For both the Daal and the Saag, I ate it with plain Naan bread (which you can choose from a variety of flavors). I recommend eating the Daal and Saag with Naan. Delicious! I read a review that was surprised that their meal didn't come with rice. Though we ordered a shrimp biryani (rice, which we ordered mild). The spice and flavor in the shrimp biryani were perfect. Large shrimp pieces, too! ours came with plain biryani, but really, you eat your meal with Naan. The moment you walk in, the wonderful smell and essence of Himalyan Indian food speak to you. From the cooks to the service to the food, I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I don't know if this side of the desert deserves such wonderful flavors, but I do know that those who are not familiar with challenge the flavors and those who are familiar will be open to exploring familiar and new dishes. Many of the dishes contain coconut milk or nutty curries. Dietary needs may not be available, but many dishes can be made vegan as the meat dishes offered (respectfully reflective of the culture) are lamb and chicken.

The Chicken Tikka Masala is missing in this photo but the tandoori chicken, naan and rice are great!!

The food is so good! I had tandoori chicken, tikka masala, naan and rice. The tandoori chicken was moist and had a deep, rich flavor with a perfect blend of spices. It was served with grilled onions and green bell peppers. I like mine mild and it was mild!! The tikka sauce was absolutely one of the best I have had...creamy, nice spice flavor and not too thin. I ate in but there is limited space, most people did take out. Limited non-alcoholic drinks. They do have water on the tables in beautiful copper serving pitchers. Ambiance: none Price: $23 Service: countertop ordering, served to table in to go boxes I will be back for sure!!

Ask the Community - Himalayan Indian Kitchen

    Is there an AYCE buffet?

No, there is not. There is a buffet where you select items you would want as part of a combo, but it is not an AYCE buffet.

    Is there Indian Beer offered?

Not currently as it is a new restaurant building its customers.

For a restaurant in a touristy area, it still lands at a solid 3.5 to 4 stars, but the experience has definitely taken a step back. Cleanliness - there's a fly constantly going up and down the window we sat next to. It was getting a lot of my attention but alas I did not have a fly swatter. Lucky sob!!! Food - portion sizes felt smaller. While Indian dishes aren't typically huge, the presentation this time made them look a bit meager--it could be the dinnerware, the presentation? I don't know. Flavor-wise, something has changed for the worse. The Chicken Tikka Masala was decent, but lacked the rich depth and spice profile of our previous visits. The Fish Vindaloo suffered a similar fate. It wasn't bad, but it lacked that bold, signature Indian flavor. Also, using salmon felt like a misstep; its strong flavor tends to clash with vindaloo spices rather than absorb them. Side note, this dish was not at all spicy. And the server never asked us about the spiciness level of any of the dishes we ordered. Maybe they only offer non-spicy for all their dishes?? The same vindaloo dish at our favorite Indian restaurant in L.A. is very spicy and full of other favors. Service was just ok. The restaurant was quiet, with far more empty tables than occupied ones, yet the food took quite a while to come out. At one point, at least four servers were standing around the counter watching the dinning hall. Yet, other than delivering the food, no one came to any of the tables to check on them once the food had been delivered. Multiple times nearby tables waved their hands in the air to get attention after they got their food. We overheard one young man asking for hot sauce and chuckled - so someone else wanted their food spicier, too! Come here if you REALLY love touristy/Americanized Indian or want some vegetarian choices. Personally, I'll find dinner elsewhere next time in Big Bear.

Each combo meal comes with rice, lentil, naan, salad or Raita. We had (1) Chicken Curry with Raita. Raita was very watery. As was the lentil. Lentil was also watery. The chicken curry was good. (2) Tandoori chicken with salad. The salad was the better choice than Raita. The Tandoori chicken was good. Again the lentil was too watery. The rice and naan were good. We also had the mango lassi, which is a shake with yogurt and mango. It was delicious but I wish it had come earlier (while I was waiting for my food). The drink did not come until after my food has arrived. Service was adequate. Nothing exceptional but gets the job done. Portion size was good.

You wouldn't expect to find such delicious Southern Indian food in a low key plaza in Colton, CA of all places, so this was a pretty good pull from him. Since we came for a later lunch, we were seated immediately and aside from a couple other customers, I think the other orders were all for to go. It's a small family owned restaurant and has a lot of cultural decor and the portrait of their grandfather. Love that. Food came out quickly and the portion sizes are quite generous. Everything was super flavorful and had complex taste profiles. With some things being a bit sour and spicy, to creamy and tangy, and with the carbs having different textures too, made each bite diverse and delicious. You don't get tired of your meal so quickly and makes the dining experience quite fun too, at least for someone who doesn't eat this cuisine as often. I don't quite remember the names of everything that I got, but I did enjoy everything that was ordered from the stews, curries, sauces, and it all went really well with the huge crispy piece of dosa and the vada pastry. I'm not sure when I'll be back in this area, but this is a solid place to eat.
