We were passing Derby after a long Bank Holiday weekend just before the restaurant was due to open. It's not situated in the nicest area of Derby and we were about 30 minutes early. Thankfully, the parking restrictions weren't working in the nearby car park, so we left the car there and had a walk around the Cathedral Quarter which was pleasant enough.
We were first in the restaurant and were surprised that there wasn't an early evening special, as was the case in a few of their competitors just around the corner. However, we always enjoy Nepalese food and wanted to try this one out as we hadn't been before. Being tired, we simply went for the veg and non-veg thali regimental meal - coming with starter and dessert. After enjoying the starters, the thali itself had a curry, rice and dahl, with a good helping of what I can only call "momo sauce", rather out of place!
The portions weren't overwhelming, but we were full when we left. One thing that surprised me was that the rice pudding was hot (and didn't seem very home made, to be honest, it was my least favourite of everything).
Perhaps I should have had a deeper delve into the menu instead of being lazy and having the set meal as I'm sure that my taste buds would have been better rewarded! read more
