This is the restaurant outlet, it appears, of the Revolution de Cuba BAR at No.1, The Strand. It is a large, elegantly fashioned place that specializes in burgers and Latin American-style food. On weeknights, and most certainly, weekends, it does get quite busy. It's located a tiny wee bit off the city centre, but just about a 5-6 minute walk from the pedestrian precinct.
It's an upmarket place, burgers go for as much as UKP 13, including fries and mayonnaise. Nothing more. There are several other sides available, and I do HEARTILY recommend the onion rings, which turned out to be the best I've had in my life - and there was quite a stack of them for a moderate UKP 3.
A year ago I ate chimichangas there, which were quite all right but certainly not outstanding. This time I opted for the beef burger with pulled pork, and it was a good choice. Very good meat, very fine burger. The portion of fries was modest, but they were tasty.
To avoid the crowds I had an early dinner at about 5.30 p.m. on a weekday, so it was rather empty. But it's a very elegant place with nice, attentive staff. The beer selection focuses on lagers - obviously. But then, there are OH SO MANY real ale pubs in Derby close by, like e.g. the wonderful The Flower Pot, within a 5-minute walking distance.
Recommended for burgers and those great onion rings. read more
