This is the restaurant outlet, it appears, of the Revolution de Cuba BAR at No.1, The Strand. It is…read morea large, elegantly fashioned place that specializes in burgers and Latin American-style food. On weeknights, and most certainly, weekends, it does get quite busy. It's located a tiny wee bit off the city centre, but just about a 5-6 minute walk from the pedestrian precinct. It's an upmarket place, burgers go for as much as UKP 13, including fries and mayonnaise. Nothing more. There are several other sides available, and I do HEARTILY recommend the onion rings, which turned out to be the best I've had in my life - and there was quite a stack of them for a moderate UKP 3. A year ago I ate chimichangas there, which were quite all right but certainly not outstanding. This time I opted for the beef burger with pulled pork, and it was a good choice. Very good meat, very fine burger. The portion of fries was modest, but they were tasty. To avoid the crowds I had an early dinner at about 5.30 p.m. on a weekday, so it was rather empty. But it's a very elegant place with nice, attentive staff. The beer selection focuses on lagers - obviously. But then, there are OH SO MANY real ale pubs in Derby close by, like e.g. the wonderful The Flower Pot, within a 5-minute walking distance. Recommended for burgers and those great onion rings.

The food is delicious, I particularly recommend the tapas :) Loud gorgeous flavours emulate from all the dishes! Will definitely be returning here regularly :)

I went to The Venue to see a friend play in a darts competition and I was surprised just how huge…read moreit is inside. It really is just like a TARDIS. it looks like a tiny little clubroom from the outside but when you get inside it just goes on forever. There is a massive long bar and a big room with a vast dancefloor and a huge stage. You then go into the Darts room which had my head spinning because it has about 20 dartboards right round the room. There is tables down the middle of the room but it is hard if you have come to support a certain person play as they could be playing at any of the boards and you may not be able to see any of it depending on where you decide to sit. This would be an awesome place to hold a party. They hire out the rooms for functions and they also have live music nights as well as comedy nights and obviously because of the great Darts rooms they hold a lot of darts competitions so great if you just want to watch some good local talent. The prices of drinks are very reasonable and there is a limited parking area out the front but it is right across the road from Abbey St car park so there is no problem there. The staff are OK too. Friendly and efficient as bar-staff should be.

From the outside doesnt look quite big but inside has 2 decent size rooms that can be made big with slide away walls. Perfect location for functions and for gigs, this place has been a good centre for derby's local bands and also brought in some bigger bands like Fall Out Boy. Prices arent too bad either. The staff are hard working and always polite. There is a kitchen as well so food is readily available and this also means if booked out for weddin recpetions for example they can cater as well Run by 2 business partners and together its well organised.

Reception staff were a bit on the cool side, but professional and efficient. The hotel is right opposite Derby Midland station, and about a 12-15 minute walk from the city centre (slackers can always use the bus). Due to Covid room service was available on-demand only, but that's not a problem for me. The rooms were very nice for the price, small-ish but not too small, with a modern and clean shower. If you arrive late at night from a pub crawl, you must make yourself get heard to get in. Again, not a problem. The flat screen TV was larger than usual, and with plenty of available channels. The shower worked okay once I figured out how to get warm water. Good location, better than expected room for the price. There's continental and British breakfast buffet in a rather elegant room on the ground level (UKP 9.50 per day if not included with the room, only made use of it once - very much okay), and thankfully there was a lift (which was working except for a day and a half during my 6-nights stay). Derby is a great place for real ale drinkers, and this hotel is a very good option for your stay. Would book again!

However it might be worth mentioning that the station is not in the City Center. In actual fact the center is a good 15-20 minutes walk away. There are however some decent bars and restaurants in the area if you don't want to venture too far. Rooms were small but clean, the bed comfortable but everything seemed a little tired. My room had clearly been a smoking room at one point as, unfortunately, it smelled of stale smoke. Staff were very nice and friendly and the cooked English breakfast was a real treat! All in all a great value hotel in a city were the hotel prices are pretty high.
