Shaheda is the best! Please make sure you tell the school that you want Shaheda to be your instructor! I failed the driving exam with other tutors and when Shaheda came in, I passed. She gave me correct parking instructions compared to other instructors. We did a lot of practice and she took me to roads that were hard and tough to drive. She was also flexible and allowed me to take night classes that worked around my work schedule. The bad thing was almost every class was late at night when the sky was pitch black although it did challenge me enough to drive through the streets in the dark. Himalayan is wonderful. I just passed my road test, and it 100% was due to the help that Farhad gave me. The lessons I took with him were always so calm, and it honestly felt like it was a friend in the car. He was upfront with any adjustments I needed to make in my driving, and made sure we focused on these things in my future lessons. He also told me that he would be honest and tell me if he was uncertain I would pass the road test, as he would never let me waste my money like that. This was so kind of him, and I appreciated it a ton. I also took lessons at Ferrari Driving School and Himalayan is 100x better. I had a pleasant experience with Himalayan driving school. I mostly had the same instructor, sans some days where they couldn't make it, so I had another instructor for 3-4 lessons. Which was beneficial because more than 1 person gave me different perspectives on what I could improve on. I will say some are pickier about details and some only care about doing X or Y right for the exam. I took 15 lessons and passed on first try in an area with narrow streets. I also had a friend who helped with driving practice, so I ended up with 20-25hrs of combined lesson and out of lesson practice. My only gripe is the 5 hour pre-license course, the teacher seemed really upset that he had to teach because a lot of people didn't have cameras on, or didn't pay attention. He had to pause the lesson several times because he was overly concerned about people not paying attention and honestly, he should just fail them if so. It's not a hard thing to pay attention for a few hours. Felt really unprofessional how it was all handled. Overall, I would recommend them, but mostly for them to show you how to ace the exam. You really need lots of practice with another experienced driver outside of lessons that knows how to teach (I was lucky as my friend taught other people before and helped them pass). In addition, the 45 min lesson is shorter because of traffic around Roosevelt that cuts into driving time, to and from practice area (Jackson Heights Home Depot/School of the Blind area). If you double book 2 lessons, they can go into a different area for practice. As a last resort you could book more lessons, but you'd pay a lot more $$$. Cost wise, you could ask someone to borrow a car or rent a car and it would be cheaper. If you need to retake the road test, there's a month wait, so take whatever location you get. You can practice at that location (technically instructor can't go and you aren't allowed but there's no enforcement), and just drive around to see the layout, things to avoid, etc. I literally drove over most of the same route on my exam. read more

A great driving school that I definitely recommend. Staff is very nice and helpful. The instructor of the 5 hour course is very passionate about others learning not only about driving, but about safety and being responsible drivers. I had a total of 8 lessons with the driving instructor Mahmoud, shoutouts to him because he is dope. He is a great instructor and makes driving fun with his amusing commentary. Highly recommend him as your instructor. Took my road test in Astoria Heights, probably the best location to take it. The road layout there is in your favor. Overall it's a great driving school located in an area where you will learn so much about driving in the streets of New York City. read more

I rarely post reviews, but I feel compelled to spread the word here. Himalayan driving school is everything one can ask for in a driving school and I am beyond grateful. I purchased a 10 lesson package two years ago, but didn't get around to taking my road rest until this month because I taken a long hiatus due to work and life. I also realized I realized my permit was going to expire. I conveyed my urgency to the school and they quickly helped me set up my road test and fitted me in for some last minute lesson to refresh my memory. Unfortunately, I bombed because I was too nervous ( also because the examiner treated me like I stole her first born). I was desperate to fit in another exam before my permit expired in 5 days. And by some magic and fairy dust, the school actually got me another appointment slot right before the expiration date. I was incredibly grateful the school took my urgency to heart. Next, I want to rave about the ahhhmazing receptionist. Because I took my lessons on and off due to work, I'm sure I was a scheduling nightmare. But the receptionist was always patient and understanding with me. She worked closely with me and never gave me a hard time about desperate last minute cancellations and requests. Now onto the most important factor- the most amazing instructors. I had taken lessons from multiple instructors because of my difficult work schedule. Each instructor had different teaching methods but were all awesome. Mamun was concise and will literally teach you exactly how much to turn the wheel and exactly how much to reverse when parking down to the INCH! So for those with more analytic learners, Mamun is the instructor for you. Shaheda was also the bomb. Her teaching style was like a check list style. Great for those who often forget small details. Lastly, we got Forhad. Forhad is much more relaxed. He creates a chill environment where you can easily absorb information. In short, - school cares about the students - flexible schedules. They will work around YOUR schedule - the pricing is fair - the receptionist is nice, polite, and efficient. I visited a couple other driving schools in the neighborhood and the receptionists treated me like I wronged them in my past life. - the instructors are legit the best! I often hear about how driving school instructors from some schools would often yell at the students or are rude af, but definitely not the case here. I worked with 3 instructors and all of them treated me with respect and professionalism. read more

When I signed up for classes nearly two years ago, I had never gotten behind the wheel ever in my life. So, I signed up for the ten lesson package and it was still by far cheaper than anything I could have gotten where I live which is in east village. The teacher I had was Farhad and he is very calm and supportive. He will calmly tell you what you are doing right and wrong while making you feel comfortable. I highly recommend him as a teacher because he also teaches you what do in situations where you tried to parallel park but you did it wrong and how to rectify it for the actual road test. Best driving school hands down! I passed with flying colors all thanks to Farhad who is literally god-sent, he's super chill and makes you feel comfortable when your behind the wheel. He goes over your faults, and is honest with your mistakes which truly helps in the long run when it comes to passing the road test. He is also super kind, never yells or raises his voice, warm, patient, welcoming, and an energetic and lively person. I never once had a boring class with him! Great school, fantastic service!!!! I finally passed my road test today, I failed my first road test with a different school. In total I had paid for 3 lessons, road test and the car for the road test at HIMALAYAN. This school is better in many ways compared to the previous driving schools I have attended. The instructors here are professional and patient, I had 2 lessons with Ajad, who takes the time to explain things, give advice and tips on improvement. I knew right away Ajad was a great instructor from the first lesson because he was super patient and calm with me. Which was a huge difference compared to the many instructors I have had before. He never yelled at me nor get frustrated with me. The instructors I have had before (Golden Success Driving School) would show road rage, was impatient and always yelled at me or sometimes even reached over to move my steering wheel which was very dangerous (this made me very nervous while driving). Ajad was the complete opposite and gave me the confidence I needed. I had one lesson with Farhad right before my road test then he took me to my road test. He is very kind and will give you tips on better driving. He has a great personality and his vibe is energizing which is crucial if you want to feel comfortable and confident with your instructor. The receptionist is so kind and caring, she always try to help you the best way she can. Another plus are the cars they use for teaching, they are fairly new. This also benefited me in many ways. The other driving schools I had tried all have rusty old cars. Overall, I loved my experience here and I definitely recommend this school for everyone! If you have had horrible prior experiences like me and is feeling unmotivated and want to quit, please try this school because they will give you hope again. If you are a new student and is seeking driving lessons, do not hesitate about it. This school is IT! The vibe and energy, environment of the school is incredible as well. This is very important in order for you to enjoy the process and feel comfortable. Everyone is so kind unlike the previous school I tried, I really wish I had came here the first time. I really wanted to like this driving school, but I have to say...it is really pretty terrible. I actually already have my license, but needed a refresher. On the day of my first scheduled lesson, I was waiting for fifteen minutes before I finally called the school. They told me that they had to reschedule the lesson because of a driving test. When I asked why no one had called to tell me, they apologized. This was not a good start. I continued to have problems scheduling lessons, and was never confirmed for the lesson until the night before. When I finally did meet the instructor for my first lesson, he was totally unfriendly and didn't even try to introduce himself. Also, he couldn't be bothered to come directly in front of my house, but instead made me walk half way up the block. All we did was drive around on the local roads of my neighborhood. For my second lesson, which I scheduled by text with the first instructor, a different instructor showed up with no explanation or apology. This new instructor was more friendly but also did not bother to offer his name. He did say at one point that his regular job is a taxi driver. On the plus side, he was considerate enough to teach me things that would actually be valuable in my day to day driving, like driving on Queens Blvd., changing lanes and parking. Unfortunately, I could barely understand him, and he was clearly not experienced at teaching. For example, his method of teaching me how to parallel park was to basically say, "okay turn a little, a little more, now a little the other way". No clear formula at all. My last lesson with this school was (at my request) with the first instructor. I figured at least I could understand the guy. This time, I clearly asked at the beginning of the lesson that we practice changing lanes and parking. Despite this request, all we did was drive around the local roads AGAIN. No changing lanes, no major roads, and no changing lanes. Not surprisingly, I did not request any more lessons. Instead, I tried Ferrari Driving School. I just had one lesson and it was SO MUCH BETTER. We went on highways, changed lanes, merged, went on Queens Blvd., fine tuned turning, parallel parked, and did the 3 point turn. If you're looking to actually learn how to drive on real roads and would like to have an instructor that you can actually understand and who shows up on time, do yourself a favor and contact Ferrari (specifically Sam Fogel...he is AWESOME). read more

I'm ashamed that I managed to go 20 years without ever really sitting in a driver's seat. With 4 months of maternity leave and some help at home, my husband persuaded me to finally learn to drive. I chose the Himalayan driving school based on the great Yelp reviews and convenience to my apartment in JH, and went in and signed up for the 15 lesson and 5 hr class deal. I did the 5 hour class first and Abdul takes it seriously. Aside from some irrelevant comments/stories throughout the day, the class was informative and demanded attention of all attendees as it required students to participate, answer and read out loud. Once you've got your 5 hr certificate, they will schedule your road test on your behalf. For the driving lessons, I requested Forhad because that was a name that came up again and again with glowing reviews. He's the reason I give the school 5 stars. For my first lesson, I had expected that I would be driven to a quiet place or parking lot and talked through the car given I'd never driven before, but he stopped outside my building and told me to get right into the driver's seat and calmly got me driving within a few minutes to a gas station to fill up! He talks through how to drive to pass your test, and when you are first learning, is helpful and gently steers you/brakes to keep you on track. By lesson 10, I felt good, but the additional lessons helped confidence with parking and turns. I got the most value by booking double lessons so we could drive and practice for longer in different neighborhoods. Thanks to the Himalayan Driving School, I passed my test first time, 2 months after getting behind the wheel for the first time ever. I'll be back for a few more practice lessons to build confidence even though I've passed - highly recommend! read more

Highly recommend this place. Staff is super helpful, professional, and accommodating. I had taken my classes with Shaheda and she is an amazing instructor. She has the most patient demeanor and makes you feel super comfortable. Her instructions are very clear and she is very punctual. Prior to this I had zero driving experience. I had never driven in my life before I took classes here and I started taking random lessons since mid December. I had no outside practice other than the classes I took here. I can 100% vouch for the extreme help and support I have gotten from Shaheda and the extremely helpful staff who are always working with you to help you to get the best schedule according to your availability. Amazing driving school! They helped me pass on the first try when I was learning with them. I bought a package deal - 5 hour certificate plus 10 lessons. They also accept Venmo. I was able to get everything done in 1 month. They scheduled my road test in 4 weeks and I passed! All the teachers are great but Forhad became my main teacher and I highly recommend him! I've tried and failed road tests in the past but they were really able to hone in on what I needed to do to pass. They really know how the road test is graded and can simulate a practice road test for you. This is a great and friendly school that produces results! read more

As a first time driving student, I did a lot of research before deciding on Himalayan Driving School. They have inexpensive package deal compared to other driving school in the area. The 5hrs class was very informative. My driving instructor was FARHAD and he is simply amazing!! He is patient, very informative, gives great driving tips and is funny. I thought it was impossible but I passed my driving test with all the colors of the rainbow on my very first attempt. Took a driving class and the instructor was very rude. When I did something incorrectly spoke to me with a very rude tone of voice. He also started speaking on the phone for about 10 min. I wouldn't take a class from them again. I took another class with another driving school and the instructor was much more patient and courteous. The instructor for this class did not seem very interested and did not have any patience. He acted as if I was already supposed to know how to drive perfectly. Do not waste your money with this school there are much more better instructor and with more years of experience teaching students. read more
