I was very eager to try out their products having driven by the various locations around the city and noticing their fancy signs. Their web page is also very polished, which exudes professionalism, quality and sleek style. Most top soil places have lackluster web pages, but not these guys. I drove over at the crack of dawn and gleefully purchased a cubic yard of their illustrious Booster Blend, which was advertised as an 'Ideal blend of compost and dairy manure'. Further described as 'Locally and organic produced from garden prunings, food products, and vegetable trimmings', this sounded like the best thing I could add to my garden to support growing food for my family with the best of the best quality nutrients. It would boost my ego as I would feel great as a responsible and caring human for sourcing a local product that didn't contribute to excessive carbon emissions due to long distance transport, unlike those 'other' soil company conglomerates where you have no idea how far they source their products from. I couldn't wait to bring my load home to show off to my family, friends, neighbour's and random passerbys and flaunt my prized purchase, which would eventually revolutionize my garden to epic levels of nutrient dense and delicious fruits and veggies to eat. I carefully covered my trailer with a tarp to protect my fresh pile of compost and manure for the journey home. Upon returning home after a perilous journey with my tarp flapping in the wind the entire way home, I was ready to get shovelling. However to my surprise, I noticed that this booster blend had an innovative sparkly effect with a rich spectrum of colors that I've never seen before in compost from other soil companies. With closer inspection, that's when I noticed that it was packed with a special unique blend of booster particles consisting of plastic bits, shredded shopping bags, chewing gum, metal and glass shards. While the price was good, the time cost of having to pick out the bits, made this purchase a lasting and memorable experience (and not in a good way). No epic stories of heroism for me. No boosted ego, just a bruised ego.

I misjudged how much dirt a cubic yard was, so I ordered too little. I called the company and expressed my disappointment that the dirt we bought was barely enough to finish even half our projects. My fault, totally. The gentleman I spoke to brought another load! I forgot his name, I'm sorry!! I am SO happy. This dirt is full of compost and will make my veggies very happy. Thank you Cedar Grove! You've earned a lifetime customer!

Once we figured…read moreout a general direction to go, we contacted all of the local bambo outfits including one in Portland. After gathering way too much info and comparing, we called Cascade Gardens. George Gearhart was easy to talk to, answered a miriad of questions, then gave us a great deal on two 15 gallon Fargesia Robustas that were already 10-12' tall. There may be bigger outfits in the area but no one knew as much or had as beautiful bamboo specimins as George at Cascade. As the real estate broker, SeattleViewHomes.com I collect A+ vendors, subcontractors, tradesmen and techs. George is the latest top of the list of vendor I will refer my clients to.

I am so grateful to have gotten good advice from a knowledgeable resource. George even suggested methods which didn't involve Cascade Gardens' services until later in the process, which was refreshing...I was getting good advice instead of just marketing. Thanks George! I will absolutely use Cascade Gardens and recommend them to anyone looking to remove their bamboo!

Their prices were significantly lower than the competition. So low, in fact, after the first quote, I asked the lady on the phone to run the numbers again just to make sure it was correct. I was able to buy 14 additional yards of gravel than I could have bought if I had gone with the other guys. They delivered on time and without any issues. Their drivers were courteous and professional, and very patient delivering to a bunch of amateurs wielding rakes and shovels. The families at Redemption Lutheran Church & School are very happy with the improvement to our driveway. Thanks so much!

I bought $600 worth of garden soil and compost that is nothing but a disaster of sticks, rocks, plastic garbage, and is the deadest, driest soil imaginable. I see my container plants that are in regular bagged soil flourishing while the plants in the four raised beds I broke my back on filling with this garbage just stagnating. I called him mid job, saying I was new to the area and is it normal for the soil to look like this and he assured me it was. I emailed him afterwards and got a "sorry you don't like it." They should be ashamed of themselves, selling this stuff. There are other online reviews I missed that would have helped me avoid this -- I'm hoping my review here helps someone else.

I want to check out here," no one offered to help. Instead, the cashier at the first register told me I was being rude and then refused to check us out, turning what should have been a routine checkout into an embarrassing public scene that ultimately ended with a manager checking us out. My mother has been shopping at McLendon's in Woodinville for decades and was taken aback by the way we were treated. We had already spent most of the day buying gardening supplies and had loaded and unloaded heavy items before coming to McLendon's for a few more things. We ended up with two carts, including a heavy flat cart carrying three long bags of potting soil with a long shovel balanced across the top. It wasn't just heavy--it was awkward to maneuver, especially around tight corners. At checkout, I was directed to another register. I started to move the cart, but the cashier was facing a different aisle and said he couldn't scan the bags from where he was. It quickly became apparent that I would have to maneuver the cart around a very tight corner by myself while keeping the load balanced. The other option was to back up and come around another way, which would have required moving my mother and her cart. My mother has neuropathy in her feet and is very unsteady, so neither option was practical. The cashier did not offer to help move the cart, reposition himself, or assist with the bags in any way. I went back to the first register and said, "I want to check out here." She again told me I needed to move to the next register. I said, with admittedly some tired exasperation, "I don't want to. I want to check out here." After I said that, the woman at the first register very loudly told me I was being rude. I asked, "Are you going to check us out?" She simply stood there for a time without responding. My mother, who is 80 years old, had been standing there watching the entire interaction. She even said to her, "Isn't the customer always right?" By that point, the exchange had drawn the attention of another customer, who inserted himself into the situation and began insulting me. Finally, after being loudly lectured, the cashier said she would have to get her manager, waved her hands in the air, said, "I can't do this," and left to get him. The volume of her voice and her visible anger quickly drew the attention of several customers, turning what should have been a routine checkout into an embarrassing public scene. The manager ultimately came over and checked us out. He, in stark contrast to her, was very nice. He looked to see if my mom had any coupons on file, then asked another employee to help load the soil into my car. What disappointed me most was how quickly this escalated. If either employee had simply offered to help with the cart, the entire situation could have been resolved in less than a minute. We had two carts that were part of the same purchase--one my mother was pushing and one I was pushing. Instead of asking us to move both carts, it would have been far easier to let the customer behind us proceed to the next register. I understand that stores have procedures, but good customer service also means recognizing when a customer is dealing with heavy, awkward merchandise and offering assistance. I sincerely hope management will use this as an opportunity to remind employees that a calm, solution-oriented approach--and a willingness to help a customer with a heavy load--can make all the difference. 7-6-26 Edit: After taking some time to reflect on what happened, I've updated this review to clarify the sequence of events. My mother remains just as upset as I am about the way we were treated. She would welcome the opportunity to speak with management if they would like to discuss what happened. We would genuinely like to feel comfortable shopping at McLendon's again, but that will depend on how this situation is handled.
