It's November, and everything is dormant, but he was kind enough to show us photos from his mobile phone and explain the growth habits of each plant as it grows. We ended up buying a few things, including a Japanese maple (the coveted "floating cloud" / Ukigumo variety!). The prices were extremely reasonable--very competitive with other nurseries in the area. I even found some great deals on time-tested perennials for only $5! (They need to be planted over, but a 1-gal perennial for $5 is a screaming deal.) It was a relaxed, zero-sales-pressure morning with people who obviously know and enjoy plants. With free local delivery on large ($500+) orders, we expect to be back again in the Spring! (For what it's worth, I am extremely conservative about my exposure to people and COVID, and I felt safe the entire time I was at Woods Creek. It was a nice, rare field trip outside the house.) I would highly recommend a drive to Monroe to escape the pretentious, overpriced, crowded, tchotchke-saturated "plant nurseries" in Bellevue, Shoreline, and Seattle. There's no coffee stand, only hundreds (thousands?) of plants and a few humans who love them.

Their selection of native plants is much larger than any I've found at any nursery. My project involves creating a meadow-like environment that attracts wildlife. I bought several plants there a few years back and they are all thriving. After the first year, native plants require very little care, as they are uniquely adapted to our wet winters and dry summers. Prices are reasonable and the Tadpole people can answer almost any questions you may have about the plants they sell. Visits are by appointment only, so you get lots of one on one attention while making your selections. It is a little hard to find as it's back in the woods and feels like you're visiting someone's yard-- and maybe you are.

We visited on a Saturday and the place was cramped because of all the people inside and how tiny the shop is. But that doesn't a stop us plant parents! Jungle Cat Plant Shop really maximizes the use of its small space, by offering a variety of different plants, with some in planters, hanging, displaying on shelves, etc. It also had a humidifier for the plants inside, and sells planters and some small gift items, like local art prints, greeting cards, pins, etc. I saw on the entrance sign that there's a shiba greeter here I was hoping to meet, but didn't see the doggy in my visit. But I love that it's a dog friendly spot and the staff was very welcoming here. This is the kind of business that's much needed in Redmond and the kind of business that we need to continue supporting! We hired Westcoast Nursery in November 2024 to supply and plant several 8- and 12-foot Arborvitae…read moretrees in our side yard. Unfortunately, a couple of the trees were in visibly poor condition at the time of planting, with substantial foliage loss in the lower one-third to one-half of the trees. We raised our concerns and were told that there were no other 10-12-foot trees available, and that with proper watering, the trees would recover and fill in from the bottom during the following growing season. Westcoast Nursery did offer to replace the compromised 8-foot tree, but based on what we were told about the trees recovering, we decided to give them a chance rather than proceed with the replacement. It has now been approximately eight months. We have taken very good care of the trees and followed the recommended watering practices, but there has been little to no improvement in the condition of the compromised 12-foot tree. We have made multiple phone calls and sent multiple emails in an effort to resolve the issue directly with Westcoast Nursery. Unfortunately, we were ultimately told by the owner that she would not do anything further to address our concerns. We were also told that there is no warranty on the trees once they have been planted. This has been very disappointing, particularly because we relied on the information provided to us at the time of purchase and planting. Had we understood that there would be no warranty or remedy after planting, we would have approached the purchase differently. At a minimum, we believe the compromised 12-foot tree should be replaced. More broadly, we feel customers should be made fully aware of the condition of trees before purchasing them, particularly when there is significant foliage loss, rather than being reassured that the trees will recover. **Based on our experience, we recommend that future customers carefully inspect every tree before accepting it, especially larger and more expensive trees. If a tree has significant foliage loss or other visible concerns, we would strongly suggest getting any assurances about its condition, expected recovery, replacement, or warranty in writing before proceeding with the purchase and installation.

I walked in here with no planned intention but ended up buying an entire DOOA glass and light setup. it's definitely not cheap (~$300 for the set I bought. just glass, metal arm, light, 2 rocks) but what made it worth it is the fact that Adam from this shop was SO kind and beyond helpful. he gave suggestions and advice on what I would need to get my setup working properly, down to the type of substrate for certain plants. when I was picking out a few rocks for my glass, Adam had such an aesthetic eye for which one would look nice in the environment. I'm typically so picky about achieving a certain look for tank builds, but the two rocks Adam pointed out I immediately loved and got (they even have a sand dojo area for you to play around with layout). He sees the vision and helps you execute. This type of expertise and willingness to help is absolutely what lead me to buy an entire setup on a whim! But truly, cares for your build like he would his own and he doesn't try to *sell* you anything, rather he wants the plant to thrive in the environment created, and he's happy to give advice and his time to bring you to success.
