We purchased sod from this company and decided to lay it ourselves. I bought it online without ever having spoken to the company. I picked the sod I needed (they had two options) and also purchased the lawn signs, fertilizer and sod spades. Never having done it before, I relied heavily on my partner to assist in laying it. The sod arrived in the daytime when I was not there but it was dropped off on the curb with my father. Originally I had requested a different drop off time, and the company was very quick to respond about there own internal delivery details. I was very satisfied with the company response time and in how nice they were at explaining the details. The sod arrived about 45 minutes prior to the scheduled drop off time, which was great. If you were going to use a crew this would be IDEAL for an early drop off. When I got home to sod was still fresh and moist. I was surprised the sod still looked so fresh after sitting on my cement for a few hours at over 100 degrees. We picked a darn hot day to do this project! They were also very nice in dropping off a sod laying 'how to' sheet which listed some do's and don'ts. For us first timers, this was a great read. They also leave instructions on watering and maintaining the lawn. Read them! It was helpful for us and I think made our project a success. After a few weeks the grass has taken WONDERFULLY. We noticed mushrooms growing in various patches, which is a good sign of deep roots on a lawn. Some of the other reviews mentioned dead lawn or bugs, we did not have anything but a GREAT experience. I live in Issaquah, WA. Had a professional company do a ton of landscaping and also a large amount of JB lawn. The landscaping company is excellent. JB lawn product, not so much. It hasn't even been two years, the lawn is withered, sparce and horrible. I made sure all the proper prep and fertilizations were done correctly. It's the product. Stay away, go to a hydo-seed place with good recommendations. You'll be happier. Another neighbor had the same results with a different landscape company. It's the product. read more

To bad you cant give -100 stars. do not buy from this company. absolute garbage grass, service communication. they cut Friday night then let my order sit in the sun until delivery Monday morning. the job turned out like shit, all the edges were dead and hard. The next day pics shows haw fast it turned to crap. called the people and no one gives a shit about the customer. spent 15 hours cutting and pasting to fix about 90 percent. (remember the pics you see are Tuesday and the sod was delivered Monday 24 hours) and after seeing the pics the salesman had the balls to ask how i watered it. read more

Okay quality sod. The main issue with the sod is how tight the rolls are made with the machine. The last few inches of the rolls were rotten, or dead. Some of it has recovered but I will need to seed a lot of areas. Also had a large piece of plastic in two rolls that essentially cut them in two and they were only good for cutting in shapes. The PO also did not make clear which mix I received. Not the best sod but a good place to buy a pallet or two from if doing a large area. read more

Highly recommend JB Instant Lawn. They delivered to Issaquah on time. The driver was extremely friendly and fast. I didn't do my math correctly and was short 500 sq ft. Not to worry, I called them up the next morning at 7am and had a pallet of Pacific Northwest Sod in the back of my truck. The receptionist was super nice and helpful. We used JB Sod for our new lawn & it is great. The contractor installing the sod remarked how much better quality it was than the sod from the big box stores and asked for JB Sod's information. The scheduled delivery was flawless. It is now 2 months later & all the sod has taken well and looks better than the day it was installed. Great stuff. Received fresh sod last week from commercial supplier due to JB not doing local deliveries from Covid. Sod is full of white lawn grubs.

If you need an instant lawn -- well not SO instant, as you are starting from seed -- these guys do a great job. Less than 2 weeks after hydroseeding, my lawn was sprouting, and by 4 weeks needed its first haircut. The work crew was friendly, efficient and provided great written instructions of maintanance. A LOT cheaper than turf, and I'm thrilled with the results. read more

She answered every question effortlessly, had great recommendations, and really got what we were looking for in terms of style, combinations, arrangements, etc. They had a great selection even during late fall. read more

I had 8000 sq ft of JB instant lawn premium sod installed last Feb/March (2013). The new sod almost immediately had red thread appear. Contacted the installer and JB and was told to fertilize more. Followed their instructions for fertilizing and the lawn looked nice in Sept/October. Fertilized in November per JB lawns instructions. Come December, the lawn turned into a gray gloppy mess. It smelled like it was rotting. Called JB Instant lawn in Redmond, and the receptionist/secretary tried to dismiss my complaints by saying "everybody's lawn looks bad, it's the weather this year". After telling her that my lawn looked worse than others and was rotting, she relented and said she would have the local rep contact me. He did and came and looked at the lawn. Snow mold was what was the problem. Told us that it would come back. Also was quick to point out that the sod is only guaranteed for 48 hours..... It is not coming back and subsequent landscapers we have had out to help us with the lawn have told us it's a loss. Start over. This will cost me another $10k.... For a little more background, I did have sod placed in the same area in 2005 and that sod was fine and did well. The reason of replacing it was a utility project that completely tore up my yard, so it had to be replaced. My neighbors had their lawn replaced at the same time due to the same utility project and their lawn is fine. At this point it seems to me that JB Instant Lawn sold me turf that was weak or already had fungus mold in it. This is beyond belief. read more

Based on the great review at this site, I bought the seeds for my new top-soiled backyard. We bought the 25 lb bag, hoping to have extra seed for many years to come. But I am so disappointed in the seed quality; it is full full of weeds and clover, so much so that I am throwing the remaining 20 lbs away. My suggestion: don't buy the seeds in the bag. Update: 6/11/2010 JB Customer Service is great though: I got a reply back from JB with suggestions on how to fix my lawn. Kinda restore my faith in them. More to come. read more

I called and spoke with an Amber regarding a sod quote. We got through the quoting process, and she informed me delivery to tacoma the following day would be no problem. When we tried to complete the transaction her computer unexpected crashed (which happens! It's technology. No big deal). She took my name and number and said she would call me back when her system was up and running. After two hours, I called back and spoke with Susan. Susan informed me that it was passed the cutoff for next day delivery. I explained the situation and all I got was a "sorry. Can't help." Not very concerned with customer service. Today, as I type this, a large truck from JB is illegally parked in Wallingford (47th and 2nd), causing a school bus to be blocked and unable to continue down a narrow street. We informed one of the JB employees, and he said "there's nothing I can do." We have been hearing this confrontation, clearly the fault of JB, for at least ten minutes now. read more

I am a pro who never want to use JB lawn again, because it has so much crab grass and weed in it. As far as the price is fair on sod is ok but the price for the plants is quite expensive in comparing to Plants of Northwest. For instant, bought the same kind and size of the tree at Plants of Northwest $85 and at JB nursery is $120. read more

Their customer service needs major help! I only go to them cause there is no one in the area. I had called in the day before to place my order, on the day of pickup they called to confirm the order 1hr ahead and when we went to pick it up, they said they don't have any sod available. Beware about placing an order. It has happened to me on several occasion. It delayed my project and cost me money. Don't expect the ladies on the phone taking your order to go the extra step to help you out. I've put up with this poor service for too long and others should know as well!!!!!!!!! read more

I had approximately 7,000 sqft of JB sod install at my house in Bellevue. The sod installer did a good job tilling the dirt and prepping it for the sod. The sod was laid in September 2012. During the winter 2012/2013, the sod became thin or vanished altogether. We had a representative of JB Sod look at the lawn and he said the grass is designed to be lumpy (i.e. bare in spots and clumps of grass). He said the grass will grow together over time. It is now spring and the grass is still very thin in many places and has many bare spots. I am going to overseed the lawn (approximately half of it) to see if I can fill it all the bare and thin spots. I am very disappointed with the quality of the sod. If the overseeding does not work, I will replace it with the Country Green sod. This will cost me about $3,500 to do this work. read more

The JB Sod is terrible, I would honestly give their sod product zero stars. We first purchased sod about 7 years ago, the areas that had more shade did not take the sod at all and it died in the first winter, the other areas became pokey under foot. Where the dirt became exposed it also exposed the underlayment JB uses to produce the sod, it is basically a plastic net. I don't believe that it is at all biodegradable. This first round of lawn ended up getting so bad that we pulled it out and thought it might be our dirt that was the problem. We amended the soil and purchased more sod from JB. Hoping they would have gone away with the fish killing plastic net backer. Again the sod is pokey and failing us, we plan to remove it and hydroseed. Recently my husband was up working by a creek and he saw a dead fish wrapped in the plastic netting. I can't believe that they have not outlawed the use of this. read more

As a former delivery driver of this company, I can tell you that the dispatcher "Harold" does not care about the customers or the lack of planning or emergencies or contingencies that come up on their part. "If there not ready, well be delivering them more on Monday at their expense", Ive heard him say multiple times. "Get the truck empty and get back here, your not their to make friends", he said. He also said, "dont trust the contractors you deliver to". He said, "most of them are meth heads and would be stealing from you or robbing your house if you didnt watch them". Needless to say, I was to customer service centered and was told that I was no longer needed. I left on peaceful terms, but would not recommend them, cause any chain is only as strong as its weakest link. When the weakest link is in a postion of authority, bad customer service happens and customer support falls by the way side. read more
