Amazing chili dog! Large serving and delicious shaved ice! No photos because I ate it too fast

Hilo Ice Shave provides the perfect snack on a hot Hilo afternoon after going to the beach. The ice is shaved as fine as any I've tried in the past, plus they definitely don't skimp on the syrup. They were pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon that we were there but the friendly employees were very capable of getting orders out at a good pace. Will definitely return.

This place was clean and a lot of selection of flavors to choose and add the your shaved ice! Clean and vibrant place and good service with the staff!

You wanna know the perfect way to cool down? Go to Hilo Ice Shave and grab yourself 1 shave ice! They have a lot of flavors, the staff is very nice, and they didn't skimp on the pours. One thing I really loved is that they have to-go cups. Being a messy girl this was perfect for me!

My favorite ice shave shop in Hilo! Really reasonable prices, generous servings, and great syrup flavors. I got the large shaved ice with lychee, POG, and lilikoi syrups, with condensed milk on top. Service was quick and friendly! The girl behind the counter suggested getting the large order, but having in made in a bowl so it was easier to eat--such a good pro tip! The serving size was enormous, and so so refreshing on a hot day. There's a little seating inside, but also some benches outside to enjoy your frozen treats. The syrups all tasted fantastic, and the ice was a nice consistency and not too coarse. The condensed milk paired beautifully with the flavors. I finished the whole thing! I'd definitely recommend this place and will certainly be returning again soon.

Such a cute shop with yummy in your tummy ice shave. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and huge portions that makes for a happy smile. They also have a flavor station where you can add your own syrup or you can order flavors with additions (mochi, ice cream, azuki beans, snow cap). Perfect place to go on a hot day.

Small, lowkey shave ice spot with lots of flavor options. The staff was very helpful choosing flavors and what type of ice. I would come back! There's a little bench out front to sit down if you like!

Huge bowls, good prices, nice toppings. Plus a wall of cheap kid toys and a mean chili dog. All vibes.

Friendly and accommodating service. Just like the old fashion shave ice places. Cozy little counter service with local charm.

We came at 10:30am which was the pickup time we asked for and waited about 20 minutes in the phone order line before being called into the store and waited a few more minutes and left with our order around 11. They did give samples in line though, so that was nice. I did wish I knew about the additional daily fresh fruit flavors beforehand though so that I could order those when I called! I didn't see it until I came to pick up. The place is small and only enough room for a few people at a time. The strawberry mochi is amazing! Other flavors are good too, so soft and fresh. I think it's worth going if you like mochi and have the time!

We arrived 15 minutes before opening and were first in the walk-in line. Right before opening, an employee came out and split the lines into "walk-in" and "phone order." Totally fine--except once they opened, they let all phone orders go first... and then continued calling more phone orders again while the walk-in line just stood there. Despite being first in the walk-in line, we waited over 45 minutes before they even started letting walk-ins inside. Meanwhile, we watched people leave the walk-in line, place phone orders, and get served ahead of us. The system is extremely frustrating and poorly managed. A better system would be alternating one customer from each line ! So ridiculous they can't figure this out . Once inside, it took another 20 minutes to get our order. To make matters worse, the order was incorrect and nothing was labeled, so we had no idea what we were eating. The mochi itself was also disappointing. The texture was unusually thick and had a strange, almost metallic taste. The strawberry was very sour, and the strawberry cake mochi was overly large, soggy, and honestly inedible. Overall, we wasted over an hour and a half here for a very underwhelming experience. The staff also weren't particularly welcoming or helpful. The two stars are for Hawaii's aloha spirit....otherwise, this would be a zero!

The espresso was strong, not overwhelmingly bitter, and had a good consistency to it. While sitting at the bar, I noticed that they had a Day Drink menu with a bunch of coffee and chocolate cocktails, including an espresso martini and a cacao old fashioned. For $14 and $13 respectively, these seemed like very reasonable prices. Definitely something I'll check out on my next visit. On the right side of the store is a gift shop, while the left side has a bunch of seating for patrons. I noticed there were a few people here with their laptops out, so I can only assume it's also a good place to work as well. The store seemed pretty quiet, street parking outside was easy, and the staff I interacted with here was friendly. We tried the Bomboloni and Nutella Coconut croissant during our initial visit. The Bomboloni reminds me of a malasada but I enjoyed the creamy filling of this so much more. In fact, except Madam Pele does NOT necessarily keep to the same schedule as the bakery, would try to time my Volcano drives to coincide with Friday, Saturday, or Sunday! Hahah. Today got a sampling of Mediterranean scones (savory with olives and delicious seasonings), croissants, danish, and my favorite... the ube cruffin. Holy Moly Batman... that one item was worth the drive alone! Since there really wasn't any real estate in our tummies, we split everything 3 ways... over the course of the next few hours. Two weeks later, still thinking about that ube cruffin! Would definitely do a repeat on that as well as the Medeterranean scones while trying other items. And as the nice couple infront of us in line mentioned, will have to return for the sister deli across the parking lot. Heard it was featured in Guy Hagi's food vlog. And if its good enough for Guy Hagi its where I want to be my next mealtime!
