My initial review of this den of thief, singular, was two stars, primarily because they employed the most mechanically brilliant, straightforward, reliable and always helpful mechanic in Brooklyn. Ronny could diagnose and repair anything and everything on a car. If conventional methods didn't work, he kept trying different things until he found the solution. Since Ronny finally came to his senses and moved on, there's really no reason for anyone not to go to one of the many other shops in the area. The owner of Hilna, the eminent Louie Gelman is nasty, obnoxious and often verbally abusive. He has more used tires filling every area of his shop than he could possibly sell in fifteen lifetimes. He could squeeze so much blood out of a dime, you have to wonder why his hands are always filthy black from grime, and not red. And he will charge regular long term customers as much as three times more than almost any other mechanic will charge. If Louie gets lost under his tires one day, and if Ronny comes back and takes over, keeping Jimmy and the other honest and competent mechanics who have worked there for many years, this would truly be an amazing shop. As it is, it has one major serious fault that makes many people like me walk away and never look back. That flaw, of course, is a cheap nasty little hustler named Louie. read more

My dad and I were recommended HILNA by our collision guy Mikey Rodz of Atlantic Auto Spa so we went - I was very happy we did . I bought 4 new tires and my son bought 4 new tires the week after . The young man that helped us was very polite in his salesmenship showing me and my son all our options and prices - even a cash discount . The price included the 4 tires and removal of old ones and mounting +balancing . It was a great experience . My son then went today and dealt w Louie who was very kind and courteous . He made the sale - got the tires out and my son was out within an hour . He said he was impressed how Louis went around to all the waiting and arriving customers to check on them . Went to them today 10/29 with a thumbing noise coming from my r/s front. I took a drive around the block with one of the mechanics, he said it was a large nail in my tire , any other place could have ripped me off. They fixed the tire, and I wanted a wheel alignment, which they did. The price for both was very reasonable. Will be back. read more

Went to Hilna Tires when I first purchased my new Jeep Wrangler in 2017 to have larger Cooper tires installed. They ordered the 295/70/17 STT Pro mud tires I wanted and they came in within a few days. They called me and I came in to have them installed and balanced. Drove away and they were perfect. Just came in again in 2023 as they had over 70k mikes on them and replaced them with new Coopers. Same good price and service. I also had them change front brake pads at the same time. Great price, service and the owner is a very nice guy and very hands on with his crew of good techs. Highly recommended. read more

This review is based strictly upon my experience not on their work on cars Came to this shop because I was directed by Michelin to go to an authorized dealer. My normal tire shop wasn't an authorized dealer unfortunately. I had a tire that had a bubble on the sidewall so wanted to get it checked out to see if it would be covered by warranty. I went in and was directed to Antonio who was very quick to help me out. He came out and quickly assessed my tire and verified that it was damage from an impact so unfortunately it wouldn't be covered. Then we went back into the shop and he told me that the tire would cost $250. It would be $237 on tire rack after shipping and tax by the way. I then asked if I could order from tire rack (tire rack has a great road hazard warranty program) and have it delivered at the shop and installed which he said was fine After that, I asked if he could measure my tire tread depth since my car is AWD and the depths need to be similar or the same or it'll put stress on the power train. He then went off on me and saying that was a stupid idea and that I can go masturbate on that idea or whoever said that to me. I then proceeded to say that for AWD cars, I've seen it before and he still continues to go on bashing on that information. All I wanted was my tread depth measured and I got an earful of nonsense. Louie threw money at my father, screamed at him in front of his employees, & grabbed his arm all because my father didn't pull his car in front of the shop for his inspection to be done. My father asked one of the employees where he should pull in & was told he can pull in on the side of the shop. DO NOT use Hilna unless you want to be treated like garbage. I usually am not a complainer, but changing my (4) tires at hilna has been frustrating. - I changed my tires in December 2021 & ever since my tpms light has popped on. I brought it back- they checked all the sensors- sensors were good, but low pressure in (1) tire so they adjusted it. - I then took a 3 hour drive- tpms light came back on when I drove 60 & above- then switched to low tire pressure light. - I brought it back & they now say I need to change (1) tire pressure sensor- so I did- told me the blinking tire pressure light would turn off after 15 mins- in 20 mins it turned off & the tpms light came back on- I give up on hilna- I'm just going to pay for my mechanic to review & charge me whatever it takes to fix this, but I would never use hilna again. read more

I have been a satisfied customer of Hilna tires for 31 years and have never had difficulty with them, until my recent visit. I came to buy four new tires for my Nissan and in the process of having the old tires removed, I was told that a lug nut was frozen and that it would take time to remove. I waited while a worker used an air wrench, then a chisel, to no avail.... This same worker then left for about 20 minutes and returned with an acetylene torch and proceeded to heat the lug nut, in an effort to release it. The worker took over five minutes to simply light the torch and that should have been enough of a red flag to me for his inexperience. He proceeded to use the torch to heat/melt the lug nut, or so I thought....What he was ACTUALLY doing, was melting the existing lug nut opening, on the wheel itself, making a hole large enough to pull the tire off, OVER the frozen lug nut....Two other workers came over after the fact and actually shook their heads over the wheel that now lay on the ground. When i complained, I was told that it was the only option available and that I shouldn't worry, because I didn't really need to have five lug nuts. A simple search will tell you that driving with a missing lug nut, can be dangerous and that it can cause harm to the wheel bearings. Since the damage was already done, I accepted the fact that I could do nothing, but then was told that I would be charged $88.00 plus tax ($94.00) for the privilege of having my wheel destroyed, after having just purchased $488.00 worth of new tires. They told me that they MIGHT be able to find a used wheel for my car, but it would cost me "about $75.00:....I declined. They would not release my car until I paid the additional $94.00 and I did so, under protest. I took the car to my long-time mechanic who told me that ANY tire shop should have had the proper equipment on hand, let alone a technician who had the proper knowledge and experience to remove the frozen lug nut, properly. I had to incur the expense of buying a new wheel for the car, because of Hilna's worker's incompetence. One would THINK that they would have at LEAST admitted their error and not charged me for destroying my wheel, or at LEAST offered me another wheel for free, to compensate for their mistake. 31 Years of loyalty to a local business did not mean as much to them as covering their asses because of a worker's incompetence. I liked shopping there because of their prices and their efficiency, but their disregard of that loyalty means the end of my business relationship with them. Reprehensible..... read more

I was able to select the tires I wanted for my Subaru Outback and get an emailed price quote (with a discounted price). Terrible customer service!!!!!The owner Lewis attitude is arrogant and aggressive! My Dad came to the shop to purchase new tires for my BMW. He doesn't speak English well and he hoped they could assist him to pick the good tires. My Dad showed owner Lewis some pictures of tires that we need. This is my go to mechanic and very pleased. I brought in my vehicle at 8am and by 9:04 they called me back saying it's done. I needed an oil change, car inspection and to check my brakes. I ended up here one day when I went for a yearly car inspection elsewhere, only to find out I had 2 bald tires on the verge of a blowout. I was desperate to find a tire shop, and arrived here based on the recommendation of an auto parts store a couple neighborhoods over. I was especially wary of being ripped off, showing up by myself in an auto place, but was never pressured into paying for any extra services or parts beyond what I needed. There seemed to be a couple father-son duos working the shop, and plenty of returning customers. I got a great price on the tires, and was even recommended against replacing my tires with the same, overpriced ones. The tires were promptly changed, and they did the inspection as well. The guy John was a great help and even wrote down for me when to return for a $10 tire rotation service. I'd definitely trust these guys to handle any future car issues honestly. Be prepared to pay in cash and you'll save yourself a couple bucks. read more
