We've been boarding our German Shepherd Skout at Hilltop Kennels for over 5 years. The owner is wonderful and staff is awsome. They're always very helpful and understanding with last minute changes and accommote us whenever they are able. Skout gets excited whenever we pull into their driveway. We've been boarding our dogs here for over 6 years and Hilltop staff have been wonderful with them; they know our pups personalities and take good care of them. One of my pups has been sick and they went over and beyond to locate good vet techs for us. And waived an emergency late cancellation. Also reasonably priced and great outdoorsy set-up in a lovely backyard! We drive over an hour to board our pups here! read more

Would NOT recommend. I'm not sure if we caught the owner on a bad day, but he was rude, demeaning, and overall unpleasant to work with. After picking up our 2 dogs, we realized they forgot to pack some of the supplies we brought in, including both dogs food bowls. We called after getting home and realizing, and Hilltop said they still had them and to come back. When we returned 30 minutes later, the owner wouldn't come greet us. He finally walked over and accused other guests of stealing their bowls. They even have a sign inside that claims guests will steal your stuff. I'm not sure what kind of establishment allows this to happen to the point there's a sign. We left with with no bowls, no apology, and a bad taste in our mouth about the whole place. My first impression was unpleasant. I called Hilltop Kennels and asked about any availability for dog boarding. I spoke to what sounded like an adult male, and the answer I got was with a sigh, "sir we close in 41 minutes so I don't know what you're gonna do". I answered by saying that's okay. He replied, "okay you're coming or not?" The call ended with him reporting there was availability, but he just couldn't wrap his head around the fact that I called 41 minutes before they closed. I was 15 minutes away, had shot records in electronic format, and had last minute plans pop up. I would have liked to try the facility to give them a complete review, however, my phone encounter revealed how they run business. read more

You should rethink sending any of your pets to this establishment. I was training to work there for the summer as I like to have a second job when school ends to save up so I'm not stressed about money and working during the semester. I ended up with a career building opportunity that conflicted with one of my training days which I had previously discussed not having as I couldn't do 3 days during the week (I had already worked the previous Sunday and Tuesday. This was Saturday.). Sadly, I had to leave early and the owners, rather than bother to call, texted me stating that they would have to let me go. Unprofessional in delivery but understandable due to circumstance. Their unprofessional behavior is also accentuated in how they run their "business". They are constantly gone from the premises, which was shocking as I ran the entire place on my own for my second "training day". They left me, a total stranger, by myself to look after all of the dogs for a few hours. Luckily, I am competent and know how to take care of animals, especially your average household pet. The husband does not seem to care for the dogs and is very condescending in conversations. The couple let their personal life intervene with much of their work throughout my time their, which left me feeling uneasy about the actual care put toward other people's dogs. On top of this, your dog will be sleeping on cold, hard concrete unless you bring something for them. I have used pet boarding facilities before, such as the amazing Pawtropolis in Athens, Georgia, and each time they have provided some standard of bedding for dogs that stay overnight. It is common sense and decency. They have thin blankets and those $2 bath rugs but, while I'm unsure if they charge extra for their usage, your dog will not receive anything unless explicitly asked. Additionally, they do not understand dogs and dog behaviors. They labeled an elderly, skittish dog as a bite risk because they would just stomp on through his kennel and go straight for his head while his tail curled beneath him and he backed himself up. That is unacceptable. They were even shocked when I was able to go in and pet him and take him out of his kennel with no problems, simply because I paid attention to what he was trying to say. They also put dogs who obviously don't like each other in adjacent kennels, which causes more problems than are necessary. They don't replace the drinking water in a kennel except to top off if needed, which means their could be stuff floating around as well as mop water from the husband who doesn't take the water buckets out of the kennels when he mops. I also don't agree with their cleaning methods, which involves mop buckets and mop heads that don't seem to have been cleaned in a long time (if even replaced at all). They also don't rinse off the cleaning solution (bleach and Fabuloso with water) after mopping, which I was pretty uncomfortable with. All in all, I wouldn't trust any of my animals with the current owners. read more

I boarded my 3 dogs (my babies)for the first time last week. The owners were very helpful on the phone and let me come for a visit before we boarded. I was traveling out of the country and text to check on them after the first night and they text me right back. Then I emailed half way through my trip and got an email right back with pictures. Boarded my 10 year old German Shepard/Chow and my 8 month old Chocolate Lab. This is my first boarding experience EVER so I was rather apprehensive. Jennifer was great at calling me back in a timely manner, giving me a summary of what to expect and had availability on short notice (3 days). She understands what fur mommies go though and sent me pictures and a text the first full day they were there. It was an easy drop off and an easy pickup where they were able to speak to my dogs behavior specifically. I will definitely board them here again in the future. read more

Worst experience ever boarding. Picked them on Monday. My female was sick and wouldn't eat or get up on Monday night. Had to take her to the vet. Tonight Tuesday at the emergency vet with my male. Throwing up blood and can barely stand. The day after I left them I got a text that they got into a scuffle and they strongly recommend I take my dog to the vet. I'm in Vegas by the way and they knew that. I have no one to attend to the dogs but myself. They informed me that they are about to go on a long deserved vacation and I needed to find someone. After a lot of back and fourth, they finally had an employee take him to the vet with a bleeding ear. Which is an area that bleeds a lot when cut. Both dogs sick and $1000's in vet bills is bad but what's what's worse is to leave your animals in the care of a place and end up with this type of scare. No telling why this is happening. Do not trust. I'm never leave bad reviews but this should help some people make a better decision. read more

11/10. This place is amazing! We could not afford to keep our dog, and they took her in and helped us find a long-term foster, which ended up adopting her! They have multiple employees, which they make sure are the best! After this, and some other events, we became family friends. We went over and saw what was happening with the dogs. They had about an acre to play, mass amounts of food and water, and if exact food was specified, they would use that. On top of that, they would always give the dogs their medication as requested. Comfy dog beds, and other diverse dogs to play with! Finally, they have a MASS AMOUNT of dog toys, so your dog will never be bored. They are the BEST place, and I would reccomend this. No, I say that this is the best kennel in the state of Texas BY FAR. read more

I just received a call from the owner, Jennifer. She was very apologetic and offered my dog a free one-night stay and a free bath if I would consider keeping our business with them. I politely declined the offer simply because I would be afraid of history repeating itself. I need to know my dog's needs are going to be taken care of when we leave him in someone else's care. Affordable and my dogs had a great time! I picked them up at 4pm after they stayed there for 4 nights, and my dogs slept from about 5pm until the next morning! To me that means they were tired and had fun! The prices are affordable and the people are really nice. AND they don't charge for daycare or daytime play. ONE PRICE for the whole day and night including playtime and dog food if you need! Definitely will be going back! read more

Hilltop is the best kennel I have ever used. We do a lot of travel and sometimes it won't work with the dogs. From sign-in to pick-up and everything in between is top notch. Been using them for a few years and the dogs actually love it. They are kept together which helps and they always come out looking happy, healthy and clean. I don't bring a bed or blanket or even a toy. To big a chance for it to get lost or snagged by another pooch. Doesn't matter because the my dogs could care less. As long as they have each other and a blue sky above and grass below they are happy. I highly recommend Hilltop. Just wish they would take kids! I have a couple of them I would like to drop off some days. read more

Brought my dog here multiple times had high expectations but every time after the first time my dog would tuck her tail and whimper, I wasn't sure but thought I would observe her behavior on next drop off- I travel for work and need boarding from time to time .. the next time it was the same and when I picked her up her front leg was stuck inside her collar and she couldn't walk her neck was rubbed raw from the pressure of her collar being pulled by her foot and her leg paw were swollen which tells me that these dogs are not being checked on as this would have been obvious by her demeanor and the fact that she was limping around on 3 legs! Had to have been like this for a good while or for the full 4 days she was there. Other then that with the exception of one young girl who is alway nice and welcoming the owners are rude the wife always acts like she is in a hurry and overwhelmed and the man has an eat **** and die attitude - I blew it off initially because I figured as long as my dog was cared for it didn't matter but after several visits you would think they would act a bit more personable but oh well. Life goes on. Anyway I have found another place and my little dog can't wait to jump out of the car to get in! Wish I could have left a better review .. but this was my experience. read more

Hilltop is my puppy's FAVORITE place to go. He does day stays twice a week, and when I tell you that it's his favorite, i mean that he LOVES it. Jim and Jennifer are so so sweet, and they always take such great care of Zeus. It's affordable, and you get the benefit of a small, family owned business. They are great people, and they do a great job at taking care of my puppy! It is also very clean and well kept. I'd recommend this place to EVERYONE! read more

This placed changed hands a couple of years ago. Not as good or as reliable as it used to be.

Made a reservation for our two dogs back in January and was told the price was $20 for the first and $10 for the second. The reservation was for the first full week of March. When we picked up the dogs they were filthy dirty, smelled of urine and one had a bit of blood around her mouth. Their crates had mud on them and had to be cleaned before bringing them into the house. The dogs had to be bathed immediately, also. Then the kicker was when we went to pay...oh the price had gone up on March 1, so we were expected to pay an additional amount from what we were told in January. Most businesses usually honor the price from when the reservation was made. Not this place. As for the dogs, I'm thinking that the kennel may have been overbooked and that there were other dogs in their run. I was under the impression that our two dogs would be together and that was it; no other dogs. That is usually the way it is at other kennels. And I'm curious as to how mud got on their crates from being inside the kennel. We WILL NOT be going back to Hilltop ever again. Our younger dog (the one with the blood around her mouth) was a changed dog when she got home. She had become timid and almost fearful. She's fine now, though, thank goodness. I caution you to remember the old saying...you get what you pay for. read more

Has anyone else been harassed by the owners about their Sunday charge? This happened almost two months ago now, but I waited and gave it some time because they claimed they were calling ALL of their customers about this...yet my mom still hasn't received her 5 phone calls in a single day about this charge...and her last name starts with C, while mine is much further down in the alphabet. They called me FIVE times in a single day, four of which came from a phone number that was an out of state number. Never left a message. Until finally my husband very angrily picked up and demanded to know who had been calling me all day long. To which they responded that they were calling about the Sunday charge that I was unaware of when I picked up. They went so far as to contact the previous owner and ask them if they could give me their phone number to verify their old policy. Uhm, are we 12 years old and had to go tattle to mom so she could stick up for you? Then they accused me of being angry when I picked up my dogs because of this charge....which I was absolutely not. I simply asked about it because I had never paid it before, he showed me the charge in the computer, I said okay and handed over my card. End of story. I am so furious that the owners not only singled me out and LIED to me about calling every single customer (because they surely did not) and then called me over and over again all day long over something so stupid. This is NOT how you handle a customer and at this rate my trust for this kennel has been just about completely flushed down the drain. I have never been treated so ridiculously by a business owner in my entire life! read more
