The inn's hosts are Kedri and Matt who go out of their way to accommodate your every need. Morning coffee is delivered to your door and breakfast is served in the dining room which is bright and cheerful with views of the Blue Mountains. Kedri offers a variety of healthy breakfast choices. While visiting this year, we hosted a small family reunion. Matt and Kedri arranged the perfect afternoon lunch. Our group sat on a lovely patio at a long table decorated with wildflowers from the grounds...So beautiful. The South Mountain Inn is a gem.

I could even forgive the out dated style and yellow wall paints if it wasn't for one thing. Omg. Omg. The music, the music. For some reason we could hear loud music in our bedroom/hotel room the whole time but from around 12 am - 8 am. We heard it when we checked in and the next morning, while my husband was still asleep. When I say loud, I mean we could understand every word in every song that played. I am assuming it was the music from the restaurant, but after paying over $270 per night it is something I would not expect to happened.

I found the Adamstown Inn online, and it was reasonably priced, the photos didn't look like Great Aunt Gertrude's parlor, and every room had an en-suite fireplace (my one stipulation). We stayed 2 nights in the Topaz room at the Amethyst Inn. It was amazing. The Amethyst Inn is a big, old (but beautifully maintained) Victorian home, converted into the Inn. Our room was equal parts Victoriana (joie de vie wallpaper and a very ornate cast iron fireplace) and Country - beautiful antique oak furniture. The queen sized featherbed was luxurious and we slept like babies. The bathroom was updated, immaculate and the jacuzzi was amazing. Breakfast was to die for. Four courses each morning of fantastic, unique home cooked goodness. Everything was so fresh and amazing. Their coffee was great (and endless) as well! The staff was wonderful and warm, but not intrusive. They were incredibly thoughtful. Every day there was a small gift waiting for us on the bed, and when we left they gave us snacks for the road! It snowed overnight the 2nd night, and they even cleaned our car off for us before we woke up. This place is first rate, gourmet, beautifully decorated and it is a wonderful respite away from Philadelphia. We, much like The Terminator, will be back.

Let's start with the top 3 things that make this little secret (not so secret anymore) stay one of…read moremy favorites: Indoor Pool Quiet (location and # of rooms) Amazing Breakfasts Honestly, during COVID times... what can you ask for besides a small stay with only a few guests WITH an indoor pool in the middle of winter; less exposure and lost of fun for the kids. Don't get me wrong, the grounds are nice as well, but we were usually stuck by the pool I have been trying to drag all my friends with kids to Sue's place since my friend and I discovered back in Oct (?). It is just a wonderful place to come to. The B&B is a house with 4 rooms (5th as an add-on to another one only) and a enclosed pool area that has picnic seating and lounge chairs, hot tub and entry lounge area with a dining table that we used to eat dinners and lunches by the pool. The rooms were pretty quiet - the downstairs one is ADA compliant and ok for pets, but we loved this room most because it was open to the pool area. Just keep in mind that this room tends to run colder than the other 3 rooms in the house for those of you who are sensitive to the cold. Above the pool-side room is what I like to call "honeymoon suite" it has a nice bed area with deck overlooking the pool and upstairs bathroom (i didnt get to try all those fancy buttons on the whirlpool tub, but I did end up having a tri-head shower along the way) The other 2 rooms are smaller, but one has an en-suite and the other has the hall bath with the option to book the room next to it for bigger parties. Do you know what else is nice? Sue leaves the Netflix and Amazon logged in on the TVs - I did not have to go through the annoying task of loading all of my accounts on and trying to remember to log-off when I was leaving. It is a really nice touch. Let's move on to my favorite part - THE FOOD. Holy smokes Sue can cook. Sure, I love her fancier meals, but the more homestyle, comfy ones area just... wow. I feel about 3x bigger just saying this. She will keep feeding you if you are still hungry (Don't judge.. I did get seconds almost EVERY time). She has a little refrigerator and though to stock it with drinks (who ever remembers to bring bottle water anyway?) and freezer with ice cream (the kids went nuts). Sue also leaves out the Keurig and a baked good on the table so you can help yourself to your ever expanding waistline as you relax in this quiet little retreat. I've been to some of the most incredible B&Bs (stuffy and not quite-so), but as nice as those were, I felt like I could put my hair down, relax with the kids, and just ENJOY my time with them as the pandemic raged on outside what felt like "home" to me. GO...and keep going (but not when I go - jk). Eat, swim, stroll the grounds, sleep...and just RELAX and let Sue handle everything - she's made for this

The restaurant next door is convenient and serves good food. If your looking for a comfort spot and don't mind not spending a fortune, then this is a spot you should check out.

Unfortunately, the overall experience was so uncomfortable that we decided to leave early rather than finish our reservation. If you're considering staying here, I recommend doing your research first. In my opinion, this hotel is not worth the price, and I would not stay here again.

From the moment we arrived, the person conducting our tour was extremely rude, condescending, and defensive. We genuinely felt as though our presence was an inconvenience and that she had no interest in having us there. What should have been an exciting and enjoyable experience became uncomfortable immediately. Our wedding is over a year away, and while we had a general idea of the type of timeline we wanted, we obviously do not have every detail finalized (nor should we have to!). We explained our rough plans for a reception party (no ceremony), including incorporating some traditional reception elements followed by food stations. Rather than helping us understand how that could work at the venue, she repeatedly challenged us to provide an exact timeline, with no typical guidance or consultant feedback whatsoever. When we asked how many hours we would actually have the venue rented for, so that we could better understand the logistics and figure out a timeline, she spoke down to us and told us that 5-6 hours is customary for weddings. The way she said it was extremely belittling, as though we were somehow inexperienced or unreasonable for asking. Every venue is different and because we are not having a traditional ceremony, just a reception, we didn't know if the rental spaces/times would change. We were trying to get this necessary information from her so that we could create the timeline she was pressuring us to have, yet instead of answering our questions and helping us work through it, she made us feel like we should already know the answer. At one point, she became defensive and explained that we could not have food available for four hours due to safety and that this was why she was "challenging" us to have a timeline. We completely understand that food cannot simply sit out for four hours (duh??), and we never suggested that it would. We were simply discussing our ideas and trying to understand the venue's logistics. The level of defensiveness over a hypothetical timeline was honestly bizarre and completely unnecessary. The same thing happened when we asked about catering. We were told that we could bring in our own vendors. My mom commented that it was nice to have that flexibility/DIY, since some venues require you to use their preferred vendors. She immediately became argumentative and abruptly corrected her by saying, essentially, that we were not "doing it on our own" and that we had a choice in the matter. We understood that.. We were not arguing with her or misunderstanding the policy--we were expressing that we appreciated having the option. My mom has been in the bridal/wedding industry for 7 years and has never experienced this kind of treatment during a venue tour. We came in excited, open-minded, and ready to learn about the space. In fact, we traveled 2 hours to come. Instead, we were met with an incredibly unprofessional and snide attitude simply because we were sharing our ideas and asking customary questions. Ultimately, we walked out after about ten minutes. That should say everything. Honestly, we feel blessed that we had this experience now rather than after booking and we have no idea how this place is in business. A wedding venue is supposed to be a place where you feel welcomed, supported, and excited about celebrating one of the biggest moments of your life. We could not imagine working with someone who made us feel like a nuisance before we had even booked the venue. After seeing other reviews mentioning similar concerns about the poor service and attitude, I am even more grateful that we trusted our instincts and did not move forward. The venue itself may be beautiful, but the terrible experience we had with her was enough to make us immediately take it off our list. If anyone actually decides to get married here, good luck! Recently attended a fundraiser event for the Christiana Library at this location. The event was a…read morePrincess Ball for little girls. While it was a colaboration between the library and the event space, no neither can take full credit, the two worked together effortlessly to make this event memoriable. Easy to find on Lincoln Highway in the Gap, the grounds, barns, and outdoor spaces were beautiful and well maintained. The inside of the barn was refurbished, modern, comfortable and a beautiful backdrop for any event. The grounds weren't quite in full bloom but were well maintained and the perfect scenery for pictures. The parking, although on the small size, was paved and ample. Another outbuilding where a storybook reading was held is normally used as a bride's quarters for getting ready pre-wedding. That room was elegant and furnished with luxurious french provincial type furnishings, gold guilded mirrors and was very grand. At our event, carriage rides were offered around the property. I had the pleasure of chatting with a relative of the owner, who relayed the property's history to me, which was very interesting. While the home is a private residence, there's still many venues on the property for different kinds of events. Definately a place to consider for large baby shower, party, reception, or wedding.

The white house can be used as both a rented residence during wedding weekends and is also home to the bridal suite. The central building consists of the kitchen, bathrooms, and groom's suite. The third building consists of a reception hall, with covered balcony and covered courtyard below. It's not a huge venue, but quite cute, and at a recent wedding, perfectly sized for 100 people. The staff there is excellent, with the manager ever present and reliable and ready to get things organized. Catering staff is not on-site as this is just a venue, but they have a list of recommended providers whom they've previously worked with and know the venue. And this list is updated as they go based on vendor performance. They were also great with kids, accommodating as needed, definitely above and beyond. Overall, the wedding we recently attended at this venue was a success, and the venue did a great job of hosting and accommodating.
