The lobby was ratty, the hallway carpets were dirty. I knew we were in trouble by the mountain of cigarette butts all over the entrance and Family Guy playing on the lobby TV. Now don't get me wrong, I love Family Guy and the more..."crude"....the more I like it but totally unprofessional to be playing on the lobby TV with young families around. The room I had, 325 (I believe), was less than clean. Cracks and drippings on/in the walls, about 2 inches of dust all over the "kitchen", the grout in the bathroom was grimy, as was the floor and hair in the shower. I love dogs too but I don't want to hear them barking constantly, either like I did here. Overall the room and property were severely lacking in overall cleanliness and just general maintenance/upkeep. One of the other guys traveling confirmed ever IHG he'd ever been to was a dump too. Next time I'm in the area, I'll stick to the Courtyard Marriott we stayed at the last time over on N. Park Road, I stayed there back in November 2023 and it was phenomenal.

If you are looking for an affordable hotel to stay the night, Surestay Plus is the way to go. My family and I spent roughly $89.00 for the night. The hotel was recently updated in the past couple of years, but the rooms are very nice, but a little weird shaped. My family with four members had two standard size beds with a mini single sleeper bed. The bathroom was cleaned and filled with soap, shampoo, and conditioner. The only weird aspect of our room was the fact that our window looked into a small blocked off room, that I assume they left when doing renovation. Although our stay was decent, there was an incident occurring at the hotel the night we were there. When my family arrived there was a strange guy walking around the parking lot and he kept on circling around me and my family. On our last trip to the car the strange man was staring at us through the window of his hotel room (creepy), and when we went into the lobby he was just standing there looking at us. That night my family and I barricaded the door and had poor sleep due to this strange man. Moving on to the next day, at breakfast we found out from the hotel staff that the strange man got arrested, because he was asking hotel guests inappropriate questions. Surestay Plus offers a continental breakfast that has eggs, sausage, a waffle maker, bagels, pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juices, hot tea, and coffee. The only downfall is there was not a lot of seating so it felt like you were cramped and the juice machine was out of order. Although my family and I had an unusual experience at Surestay Plus by Best Western, the staff were friendly and polite, the hotel rooms were clean with no visible dirt seen, and our overall stay was not terrible because of the affordability. If you or your family is in Reading Pennsylvania for the day, I would check out Surestay Plus by Best Western, because if their rates continue to be affordable, then I will book with them again.

The hotel…read moreitself was pretty standard; I personally never expect anything fancy during a hotel stay since I try to balance affordability with comfort. My room on the whole was cozy - I had no problems as a person traveling alone, but given its layout and how narrow parts of the room got, things might have felt more snug if I traveled with a buddy. I always find hotel beds to be overly firm, and that trend continued here. But the couch in the room offered a nice alternative place to sit; and I appreciated having both a couch and a small table while I ate the takeout dinner I ordered for myself one night. I'd give the place an "a-ok" three stars for a decent/average stay...except that both nights that I stayed at Surestay Plus people were partying or tailgating in the parking lot. It was aggravating to say the least. Hotels are for rest as far as I'm concerned; and I was mind blown that the staff allowed people to make as much noise as they did for hours at a time on the property. While Surestay Plus was pretty average on the whole, now that I know what to expect from other guests and staff alike (i.e. noise and not a care in the world about the noise), I will not stay here again during future Iron Horse Rambles weekends.

We requested…read morea mobility accessible room but were given a hearing impaired room which was located an extremely long distance from the parking area. I was then informed there was an ADDITIONAL CHARGE for parking. This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS considering that the parking area, which is FREE PARKING at every other hotel I have stayed in, when you return to your establishment later in the evening is VERY DIMLY LIT. My companion and I did NOT FEEL SAFE having to walk from there to our room. Also, for the price charged per room, you MUST BE KIDDING....... While the walls at your hotel are extremely thin and you can hear your neighbors speaking or tramping loudly on the floor above, the COUP DE GRACE was a 5:30AM FIRE ALARM that occurred after we had spent 14 hours on a fall foliage trip to Jim Thorpe, PA. When I called the front desk to ask for a LATE CHECKOUT, I was told it's not customary to get a late checkout for a fire drill. I went back to bed and 45 minutes later received a phone call, which again woke us up, saying we could check out at 1PM. We visit the Wyomissing/Reading area quite frequently but after this disastrous, non-relaxing weekend we never plan to stay at your hotel again. I also plan on letting other family members and friends to avoid your hotel.

They had a variety of different things for an example Bagels some pastries even make your own pancake machine as well as French toast sticks and scrambled eggs. The noise level alone was unacceptable - honestly worse than a kid-focused resort like a "fun dome" environment. There were large team groups staying at the hotel, and the staff made little to no effort to manage them. On both Saturday and Sunday mornings at 6:00 AM, coaches and teens were running through the halls, loudly pounding on every door to wake their teams and using profanity and racial slurs. Despite clearly being an adult business traveler, I was repeatedly disturbed until I had to yell through the door to be left alone before threatening to call the front desk. That should never be necessary. Beyond the noise, the overall condition of the property was disappointing. The bed sagged noticeably, the AC unit appeared to be filled with mold as did the room itself, wallpaper was peeling, and the air in the room felt stagnant with an unpleasant, almost rotting odor. The paid food options were underwhelming at best and not worth the cost. As a Hilton Honors Gold member, I expected at least a baseline level of recognition or service, there were no meaningful benefits acknowledged during my stay. While I did receive a verbal apology and was offered a refund for one night, that refund and any associated points were never actually processed, which only added to the frustration. Lastly, the surrounding area felt questionable and did not provide a sense of safety. The surrounding area is not safe Overall, this stay fell far below expectations across multiple levels noise control, cleanliness, service, and follow-through. I would not recommend this location.

I accidentally booked the handicap-accessible room, and the hot water wasn't really hot. They sent a maintenance person up right away to address it, which was greatly appreciated. I only had breakfast there once, but it was a nice buffet with hot and cold items, including oatmeal, which I loved. There was coffee available all day, and parking was more than ample. In the heart of the shopping area, it was nice to have things to do around the hotel. As part of the Hilton group, it was also nice to have the digital key option, although they turn it off at midnight the night before you check out. I would stay here again.
