This is a wonderful choice to stay in northern Lancaster County…read more Carol and Steve are consummate country hosts, and their 5 acre "farmette" is a perfect weekend get away. Carol is an accomplished chef, creating incredible breakfasts that include fresh fruits and fresh-from-the-henhouse eggs (not to mention delectable golden raspberries from the backyard). After breakfast, Steve will let your children take part in feeding (and walking) the young, hazelnut-loving goats and healthy chickens, and even taking a tractor ride around the well-landscaped, rolling hills of the property. The house is extremely clean, well-appointed and welcoming. Say "Hi" to the adorable young steer "Calvin" in the front pasture too! A gem of a place run by an excellent couple.

We stayed here over a weekend to spend some time at my kids' favorite place (Cherry Crest Farms)…read more Country Vistas Bed and Breakfast was stumbled upon through the DiscoverLancaster.com site under Farm Stays. After seeing the location description, OF COURSE I checked Yelp. Here is the short of it: Carol and her husband are wonderful hosts and their home and surrounding land are very, very well maintained. There are animals in penned areas on their 5 acres, their house is pretty traditional décor and with its additions, rather modern(ish). This is their home and not specifically a "working farm" like Verdant View or like an Amish stay - which we loved because we were happy to have nice accommodations without overwhelming fragrances and allergic reactions to hay (we found out on this trip that one of us is VERY allergic and big baby about it). Lots of views to take in and things for kids to do during the morning. The long of it: The house sits on top of a hill overlooking hills in the back and farms in the foreground past the new subdivision. The driveway to their house is lined with trees (very picturesque). The home is spacious and a shoe-free site. You can put your shoes on the trays outside on the porch (complete with gliders and chairs with views to the tree swing (cute) and play structure (Super tall slide and swings) and a tether ball area. The farm-ish part: They have a horse to ride (Lilah). My daughter LOVED this part the best and was obsessed with the horse for the remainder of the trip. They also have goats to walk and feed, 1 sheep, chicken coop with lots of hens to collect eggs and feed, and kittens to hold were some of the penned animals here. The produce being grown on their 5 acres was fun to pick (my daughter went crazy on their raspberries - well, as much as a 2 year old can, at least) We were expecting to have a farm stay, and although the house is located on 5 acres with animals and produce gardens/fields, it is really more like staying in a nice house that is more on the contemporary side. We stayed in the Kwanzan Room (aka like the Cherry Blossom tree that has tons of puffy pink blooms). This room was perfect for what we needed - we had 2 rooms and a shared bathroom between those two. One room had a king bed and a Pack 'N Play in the closet and the other had a queen with a bunk (my son was so thrilled, he ended up wanting to stay on the top). The bathroom had plenty of towels and Carol refilled the disposable cup holder and took out the trash during the day while we were out - nice and surprising touch). The sheets were super soft and the beds were comfortable - no complaints here. My daughter leaned backwards (hard) towards the door - so she kind of fell into the door when she learned hard and the stop wasn't strong enough to stop her from pushing the lock into the wall making a small dent. Carol was forgiving and surprised that my daughter could do that, but my son can attest to how strong that little squirt is. The Kwanzan rooms did not share a wall with other rooms so it was nice not to share noises. There were 2 other families with little ones that weekend... so it was nice to see that the noise didn't travel far. We didn't go out on the back deck, but we wish we had.. the views were beautiful from there. We were parched from our long ride without potty-breaks, but we didn't an area where water was easily accessible (not that we asked either), but I am sure Carol would have given us some had we asked - she is kind of the wonderful host that way. The coffee-addicts that we are, we were snooping around for coffee again around 11 and it was put away, but Carol quickly gave us new mugs and did that wonderful host thing she did (she probably was not expecting people completely fueled by caffeine - lol) The breakfast: Carol can make some amazing things. Breakfast 1: Scrambled eggs (good), French Toast (yum), Fresh raspberries from garden (amazing, of course), tomatoes with lite Italian dressing and parm (my son only wanted plain tomatoes - it could have worked either way.. the tomatoes were sweet), baked oatmeal (really good), sausage (i forget which brand this is, but it tasted like the one that is precooked and vacuum sealed in rows - easy for quick cooking, but causes that rubbery feel... I used this for a party once and for a way to do a quick breakfast. It is not the best tasting sausage, but certainly not terrible. OJ & water on the table and coffee in the kitchen. Breakfast 2: This was my favorite - Egg frittata with cheese, green beans (individually halved= tons of work and probably garden fresh.. amazing), apple crisp (this is the best one I've tasted in a long time), Tomatoes (again with dressing and cheese - good), chocolate chip pancake and blueberry cake, BACON - this disappeared so fast, but Carol had a new plate right away. It was all delicious.. That Apple Crisp is something I still dream about.

We stayed in the Courtney Room which was on the second floor. It was a small room but it was perfect for us! It was right off a shared living room but lucky for us, no one was in that room! The B&B was within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants downtown. We ended up walking to dinner and then did a mini-pub crawl! When we arrived "home" later in the evening, there were some fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies waiting for us! We really enjoyed them and even took some up to the room for later! The next morning we woke to find coffee in the living room at 7am. The coffee from Whiff Roasters was to die for! Breakfast was served later in the dining room and it was delicious! Overall, we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend the Lititz House Bed & Breakfast!!

There's nothing that annoys me more than B&B operators who feel they have to be so nice and helpful that they smother you. The Lititz House wasn't like this at all. John and Heidi, the owners, made us feel like we were visiting friends, but were very professional and competent at the same time. Not an easy trick to pull off. The rooms were cozy, with bathrooms for all. Keeping in mind this is a 100 year old house, the retrofitting is mostly seamless. A couple of the bathrooms were on the small side, but no smaller than your own house. Breakfast was excellent, and the coffee and juices are a standout. (I know that sounds silly, but they were fantastic)

It is a river town and is a charming place to stay if you want to visit the area attractions in Lancaster, Lititz, or York. The Ascot House was built in 1800 and has been lovingly renovated by Wendy. Wendy is the best b&b host I have ever encountered and I love her British accent and stories. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and were shown to our room (the Essex). The Essex room is upstairs and the entrance is outside, but you have your own private porch which is great. It is also convenient if you have dogs as we did, because you can walk them or go into the backyard without going through the main house. Wendy is truly the most pet friendly b&b I have ever been to as well, and made sure the dogs had a water bowl on the porch soon after we arrived. She will also pet sit for you if need be for a reasonable rate. We promptly joined another couple on the deck for wine and cheese and had a great time talking to them and Wendy. There are two taverns in town that are in close walking distance, McLeary's and Shanks Tavern. Both have live music, but McLearys is larger and open on Saturday unlike Shanks. We had a great time exploring the town of Lititz on the Saturday and toured the PA Wolf Sanctuary which I highly recommend. Wendy is glad to provide any recommendations you need and we enjoyed the restaurant she recommended in Lititz. Wilbur's Chocolate Company from 1884 is also located in Lititz. The dining room is very formal and decorated in a beautiful manner. We were treated to many courses at breakfast - one morning we had a blueberry cake, fruit, and eggs and bacon, and the next morning we had yogurt and fruit, apple turnover, and waffles with true clotted cream. You can also get your own pot of tea which is a nice touch. You should not need lunch after eating breakfast here. The Lancaster area is very quiet on Sunday so you might have to venture farther for attractions that are open. Our favorite activities were just walking around the town of Marietta and looking at the beautiful 19th century homes, especially along the railroad tracks. They have a Candlelight Tour of some of the old homes every first Sunday in December and we have already booked to go back to the Ascot House because it was truly that special. The Susquehanna is a beautiful river and is located just behind the railroad tracks. Yes, you can hear the trains go by in the middle of the night so I would recommend ear plugs or taking some Benadryl. I wouldn't let that deter you from visiting this b&b which is located in one of the cutest small towns you can think of. There are also lots of wineries in the area that I want to try next time we return to the area. Make sure you check out the Chickie's Rock hike which is very easy and has a great view of the Susquehanna.

The hosts, Bonny and Chris, are an absolute delight. We loved hanging out with them in the kitchen, eating breakfast made to order, and having great conversation! We felt like we were visiting our favorite relatives)))) Even though we gave it 5 stars, I must mention couple of cons. 1. The carpet in the bathroom. I don't like carpets anywhere, let alone in the bathroom. For various reasons it's unsanitary, allot easier to clean tile and hardwood floor, than carpet. 2. The train makes horrible noise, it honks for a long time in the middle of the night which is really disturbing. However, with windows closed you can't hear a thing. 3. Mattresses would need to be updated to something firmer and more modern and orthopedic. But I am sure,in time all will be improved and updated. Thank you, guys, again for making our stay so pleasant !

The murder mystery itself was the highlight, the storyline was engaging, and the actors were clearly well-trained in improv and very kind. Murder Mystery: 8/10 The room was fairly standard, what you'd expect in an old-timey house. No TV or modern extras, but there were plenty of charging outlets, which was appreciated. Room: 7/10 The food during the stay was incredibly disappointing. Most of it felt like reheated microwave meals. Breakfast included eggs, bacon (very thin, broken pieces), cubed potatoes that were oddly watery, ham slices, stale danishes, cereal cups, and a parfait option that had run out by our 9am time slot. Dinner was similar in quality. I chose the cheese ravioli, but despite being second in line, it was cold. The same watery potatoes from breakfast were served again, along with green beans. The only highlight was the coffee, which was good. Food: 2/10 Unfortunately, the parking situation is very poor. There are only 5-6 spots directly outside and a few more up the hill behind the carriage house. I was dropped off at check-in and informed staff that my boyfriend would be arriving late. I was assured there would be parking available and that staff would be present 24/7 to assist him. However, I woke up to a call from him saying he couldn't find parking. I went downstairs to get help, but no staff could be found. Not wanting to disturb other guests, I eventually gave up, and he had to park on the street in the neighborhood on top of the hill overnight. At breakfast, we were briefly told about additional parking behind the carriage house, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the issue from the night before, nor any attempt to make it right. Parking: 1/10 The staff overall seemed inexperienced and, at times, unprofessional. While I empathize with younger staff members, there were several uncomfortable moments--such as hearing an employee joke about "killing" another staff member over a small mistake, and staff walking away mid-conversation while we were trying to ask follow-up questions. Staff: 4/10 Overall, there were some enjoyable elements, especially the murder mystery, but the experience didn't quite match the price point. With a few key improvements, this could be a much more worthwhile stay.

After our tour at Asa Packer, he later built his son Harry a mansion next door as a wedding present in 1874. The mansion's impressive facade could have been taken from a Gothic novel, so much so that the building's design caught the eye of Disney Imagineers where my partner, his aunt, and I came to take some photos last Saturday. The Harry Packer Mansion Inn is open for lodging, tours on weekends, drinks at Libations Lounge, and, of course, murder mystery. Fifteen-foot ceilings, marble fireplaces, and gilded mirrors reflect the elegance of the Victorian Age. If you are in the area, it's a photo op.
