We had a lovely, if brief, visit to the Amethyst Inn. Our room (Cobalt) was very comfortable. Kimberly, new owner, was warm and welcoming, very attentive, and seemed to make each visitor's experience personal. She chatted at each table over breakfast to check-in on everyone. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Kimberly has also been trying all the local restaurants so she can give first-hand recommendations (or avoids) to guests. We provided one or two comments about our stay and she was very open to feedback. If you like animals, there are some very sweet dogs and two adorable and super friendly kittens available for pets, if you want... but they aren't around all the time, so if you aren't keen on animals, don't worry, they weren't underfoot. Seemed to be a quiet neighborhood and all the antiquing you could want is very close by. read more

It's hard not to like this charming bed and breakfast in small town eastern PA. The owners were very friendly and accommodating and took into account dietary restrictions for the breakfast (which was quite tasty). The room itself was comfortable, spacious, charming, and clean. We are a military family and with my husband's recent Army training, our time away together has been limited. I did a lot of searching to find a fun location to visit and the Amethyst Inn came up. I was in touch with their owners And the gentleman I spoke with was extremely helpful. Not only are we booked for Valentine's weekend in the Ruby Room, but I have recommendations for local places to eat, we have been told we can make the place our home while we are there, including using the dining room table to play board games if we would like, and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing what the property looks like. One of the things that I already appreciate is that breakfast is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Amethyst. It is a nice timeframe that we don't have to get up super early on our getaway. A wonderful stay all around! We had a fantastic stay at the Amethyst Inn in Adamstown, PA. The whole place was quaint, homey, and very comforting. The Cobalt Room was spacious and clean, which made our stay feel especially pleasant. You definitely get your money's worth when you stay here. The managers were beyond kind and accommodating and made sure that we felt comfortable and tended to the entire time. Breakfast was delicious and served fresh in the morning. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it as a great spot to lodge in while you are in Lancaster County. The fact that the Amethyst Inn is also located in the Antiques Capital of the United States is also an unexpected and pretty cool fact! read more

My husband and I stay in the Amber room for Valentines Day and the day after. It was our first time at a B&B and we loved it. It's a charming, cozy place. Perfect for a romantic getaway. Allie the owner is a sweetheart. She is very attentive and makes you feel right at home. When we arrived to our room she had delicious cupcakes, chocolates, a card and a balloon there for us. I am writing this review only because the innkeeper has not acknowledged my letter, the substance of which is below, much less responded to my concern. We therefore feel it necessary to tell others to stay away. We have been going to the Amethyst for a few years. Initially we loved it. Fabulous place. Then it was sold and noticed a slight decline in the service and cleanliness but chalked it up to the transition. This time however was nothing short of a nightmare. A very expensive nightmare. We are seasoned B&B patrons, we are not travel neophytes. We prefer a laid back friendly atmosphere but this was without a doubt the absolute worst B&B experience we have ever had. The innkeeper, whose name I forgot, was sanctimonious and self absorbed. He was concerned more about telling us his opinions and how fabulous he was than ensuring we were taken care of and treated appropriately. It felt like we were there to cheer him on and his choice of breakfast food from the food outlet. We asked for the combination to the lock, remembering it was difficult to open. The innkeeper made it clear that he doesn't lock the door to the inn at all, even at night. He finds this acceptable and normal. This was the first time we have ever encountered an inn or a hotel which did not lock doors after a certain time. We were very concerned about this practice and found it irresponsible and without concern for guests' safety. He said that he keeps his own door (next house) unlocked and was dismissive about locking the inn at night and our concerns. We have stayed in the Amber Room twice before. It is a gorgeous room. It has a very quirky shower, but we are and are familiar with the "funkiness" of the shower and know how to manage it. This time however, no amount of adjustments were able to fix the shower. This was not acceptable for the price paid. We weren't able to take a shower since the temperature approached Dante's 7th level of Hell. We mentioned it to the innkeeper, it was not looked at. While it was somewhat better the second day after we futzed around with it for an hour, it was still very hot. The sound on the TV never worked. We had asked the innkeeper to look at it Saturday morning. When we returned Saturday night there was no note that he had looked at it, nor was it repaired. No room service on the second day. Again, this room is over $200 a night so this is unacceptable. What establishment doesn't give room service? Ridiculous. The bathroom walls are water stained and the ceiling has a huge water stain from an obvious leak. The framing around the tub is chipped and falling off. Again, for the price paid, over $200 a night, we expect the rooms to be in proper repair. It is a beautiful room and the bathroom is lovely. However, repairs are not being made and the space is not maintained. We have never stayed in a bed and breakfast where we had to pour our own orange juice or anything else from containers which were carried in from the house next door and somewhat haphazardly placed on the table. The clementines were uncermoniously in a ripped bag strewn on the table. Nor have I ever been to any establishment which did not have milk nor made any attempt to get some after a request was made. The cream was bad two days in a row which made us question the safety of eating there. We were and continue to be somewhat stunned by the lack of concern for basic hospitality. The tables were not wiped down when we sat down to breakfast Sunday morning, nor were they set. I had to wipe down our table. This was well past 8:30am. Every B&B we have ever stayed in had the tables cleaned and ready to go for the next day right after breakfast. Most B&Bs serve an earlier breakfast so the guests can get on with their day. It is not at the convenience of the innkeeper. Coffee was ready when he was ready. it was again, ridiculous. I could go on but I won't. This was beyond laid back. The lack of attention to detail was appalling. People go to B&Bs because of the personal service and that very important attention to detail. It's more than serving breakfast. We are terribly disappointed in our stay and unfortunately will not be coming back nor will i give any referrals, which is a shame since we come to Adamstown at least once a year. The level of service and cleanliness is not justified by the price by any means. We are very upset because we had really loved that inn. We will only return when there is new ownership. read more

The wife and I stayed here for a weekend to celebrate our 15 year anniversary and we weren't disappointed. The innkeeper was exceptional! She was so sweet and pleasant. We felt right at home. The breakfast in the morning was delightful and fresh. We had plans to go out on Saturday, but ended up spending the entire day in the room ordering delivery because it was comfortable. I have to give this place 5 stars!My husband and I were looking for something to do for our anniversary and my boss recommended this place (she has been here multiple times over the years). This was my first experience at a bed and breakfast, and I was so happy. Jackson the innkeeper/owner is a sweetheart and very friendly. He goes into detail about the house, he's informed about the area, and with so many places to go antique shopping that's extremely helpful. He made an amazing Irish breakfast for us (which thankfully was at 9am and not the ass crack of dawn like 6am). He also let's you do your own thing kind of and not buzzing right next to you. This has the perfect comfort of a home and every room has its own personality. This is not The Plaza, this is a "shared home for guests", which is exactly what I wanted, I want to be able to go to the fridge and grab some milk or tea at 2 am, like I can do at home. The ruby suite was perfect for us, the bed is so comfortable, the jacuzzi is a dream, the fireplaces in both rooms are working and make it so nice and toasty. The bathroom shower is huge, you have a flat screen TV with cable, your own entrance fromt he parking lot so you don't have to lug all your stuff through the place. Also we came on a Saturday afternoon and since nobody was checking into our room after us on Sunday he let us have a "very late check-out" lol. I can't say enough good things about this place! First disappointing visit after 23 years of going here. Some of the amenities we were used to with prior owners were missing but that wasn't the biggest deal. When we returned to our room for our second night there, we noticed that our room had not been tidied, bed not made, towels not straightened or replaced. This had ALWAYS been done in the past. I called owner Jackson thinking it was an oversight. He was defensive, said they don't clean room for short stays, and accused me of TALKING DOWN to him. The following morning at breakfast, he ignored my husband and me (clearly not the way to run a successful service oriented business). His partner, ex-wife, Ally, was lovely though. We privately explained to her what transpired and she was appropriately apologetic. Quite frankly, Jackson's attitude was much more troublesome than the fact that our room wasn't cleaned. At the very least, he should have advised us in advance of the change in policy, and as the business owner, he should have tried to make things right. Instead, he deemed it appropriate to ignore paying customers the following morning. I assume that others are noting the change in the level of service, as this was the first time in the all the years that we have been coming there, that the Inn was not sold out on an autumn UPDATE - After posting my review, owner Jackson began harassing me via email. This was my first stay at a B&B and I must say I was quite impressed! Upon arrival, Wanda greeted us with a folder that contained a few coupons and guides with maps to Both Berks and Lancaster counties (Adamstown sits pretty much right on the line between the two). She offered to provide directions to anywhere we needed, gave a little tour of the common areas, and walked us to our room. Once there, she explained how the heat, steam shower, and Jacuzzi worked as well as told us when breakfast was, and asked what time to expect us. The room was nicely furnished with some really cool pieces (an old organ as a TV stand) and funky stained/cut glass windows. The linens were beautiful, the bed and the pillows were comfy. The only downside to our room? We like it dark at night... this being an old house, had a gap between the door and the frame that allowed the light from the hall in... we fixed this with a towel and would never knock off a star but thought it's worth the mention. There is free wifi. It's not the best, a bit spotty at times, but it is there - this was a plus for us - no temptation to break out the laptops and get work done! Oh, and they left a nice sized bag of chocolates on the pillow! Breakfast was amazing! Who knew breakfast pizzas on english muffins could be so yummy??? I'm not talking tomato sauce and shredded rubbery cheese... they used delicious herbs and/or herbed olive oil, a tomato slice, prosciutto, slices of hard boiled egg, and real, fresh mozzarella... I was also pleasantly surprised to truly enjoy the chicken sausage. They make their own granola (WONDERFUL)! As another reviewer mentioned, we LOVED the baked oatmeal as well. They put a lot of thought and time into preparing a memorable breakfast. We usually opt to not have our room freshened after only one night (we stayed two) and so left the do not disturb sign out. There was a basket of fresh towels and toiletries, and MORE CHOCOLATE when we returned. On the morning we left, there was a nice box of "traveling" snacks left for us as we departed. Such a nice touch. Oh, and at breakfast, we were asked if we needed directions to our next destination. We are looking forward to staying here again. It's not far from home, but it is the perfect little place to get away from home! read more

First off, how cool is a purple B&B?!? I think one of the big reasons as to why my boyfriend booked us a room here was because my birthstone is Amethyst, and my fave color is purple! We stayed here at the end of November for our one year anniversary... Kind of like a stay-cation! All of the staff were super friendly, and were accommodating. We stayed in the jade room, which had the comfiest tempurpedic bed I've ever slept in, a cozy little fireplace, and jacuzzi tub! Staying here was a great decision. The inn is amazingly cute and quirky, warm and classy. I loved the room we stayed in, which had its own fireplace. The breakfast was so great...small portions of creative and unique dishes with pretty garnishes and great coffee. You can see the staff in aprons preparing food in the kitchen. It was so quaint. We were greeted right away by the fabulous new owners of the Amethyst. The Ruby Room suite is quite spacious- two bathrooms, two showers, and a jacuzzi tub for two. Breakfast served the next morning was really lovely- everything was made fresh, and brought out the moment we sat down in the dining room. The room was very clean, smelled nice, and was very cozy. My boyfriend and I stayed here as "home base" for a fall bicycling weekend. The location provides easy access to the many spectacular cycling routes throughout Lancaster and Berks Counties. Alice and Stew allowed us to store the bikes when not riding, and they provided a spectacular breakfast each morning. They are very friendly and their Inn is beautiful and welcoming. Just got back from a visit to adamstown. Stayed at the amethyst inn. We stayed in the topaz room. Were met by Alice the new owner. She showed us around to our comfortable room. In the morning had the best B and B breakfast I had anywhere. Alice was helpful in directing us to dinner and antique finds. When we got back home, Alice called to tell us they found my wife's wedding ring in the room. She overnighted it to us, and refused to take any money. We had planned a weekend here a few weeks ago, and had a family emergency that required we leave before we got to spend our 2nd night here. I emailed them telling them how wonderful our first night was, and that I was sad I hadn't gotten to even taste the breakfast that I had read was delicious. They graciously gave us a partial refund in the form of a gift certificate that we just used this past Saturday to celebrate my 55th birthday! They upgraded our room when we got there, had a cute little cake for me in the morning and were so very warm and welcoming. It is a very beautifully restored Victorian home. Each room has a color theme. The bedding was luxurious (our bed had a down mattress topper... heaven!!!) The breakfast WAS indeed as amazing as I had read... We had baked oatmeal that was to die for, fresh fruit, sausage balls and cranberry bread, then they offered even more choices... This is somewhere we will definitely return to... read more

I have never been to anything like this and it was an amazing little place. The people who run it are very friendly and seem to have thought of everything. There is a fridge with ice, and a coffee maker that's accessible when no one's around. On the first floor there is a large common area with tables where they host breakfast and a really cozy fireplace. The breakfast was delicious and you can tell they put a lot of effort into preparing everything. They have a bunch of board games too! If you're looking for a place to go for drinks within walking distance, there's a tavern just down the street with TVs and a pool table. Stoudt's brewery is also just down the road if you're looking for dinner or lunch - it's got a huge cow outside so you cannot miss it. I don't know if this is true, but I heard if you bring a toy for their giant, friendly dog, Cecil, you will get a room discount. read more

Cute as a button, comfortable as home! You know how it feels on the last night of a serious road trip? Fortunately this was our choice and our second floor room was absolutely perfect. The 150+ year old inn on a hill was wonderfully maintained, offering a great mattress, Jacuzzi , and romantic gas fireplace. The staff gave us some wonderful recommendations for a late dinner at a nearby steak house/brewpub! We were lulled to sleep by the gentle whirling of the ceiling fan, and awoke to enjoy one of the best B & B breakfasts we have ever had! The food, much of it local and incredibly fresh, just kept coming. We travel often, and have stayed in a range of accommodations, but would have to put this on the short list to visit next time we are the neighborhood! Kudos to the staff!!! read more
