Candlewood Suites Reading - Venues & Event Spaces Near Me - Reading, Pennsylvania

I just stayed here this past weekend, just for a night with a group. It wasn't my turn to make the reservations so I didn't pick it, that was a big mistake. This place was a total dump. The lobby was ratty, the hallway carpets were dirty. I knew we were in trouble by the mountain of cigarette butts all over the entrance and Family Guy playing on the lobby TV. Now don't get me wrong, I love Family Guy and the more..."crude"....the more I like it but totally unprofessional to be playing on the lobby TV with young families around. The room I had, 325 (I believe), was less than clean. Cracks and drippings on/in the walls, about 2 inches of dust all over the "kitchen", the grout in the bathroom was grimy, as was the floor and hair in the shower. I love dogs too but I don't want to hear them barking constantly, either like I did here. Overall the room and property were severely lacking in overall cleanliness and just general maintenance/upkeep. One of the other guys traveling confirmed ever IHG he'd ever been to was a dump too. Next time I'm in the area, I'll stick to the Courtyard Marriott we stayed at the last time over on N. Park Road, I stayed there back in November 2023 and it was phenomenal. read more

This a great hotel. We stayed here during our weekend at the Berks Jazz Festival. It was a less than five minute drive to the concert venue, which was across the bridge in Reading. There was plenty of parking and the manager who greeted us upon our arrival was very pleasant with checkin being a breeze. Our room was located on the first floor and it was nice. The room included a fridge, microwave, elwctirc two burner stovetop, dishwasher and dishes, cutlery and gadgets to allow you to cook if you wished. There was a business center, gym, laundry, lending closet (for such items as blenders, waffle iron, dvd's, etc.) to make your stay comfortable. They even have an outdoor covered area with seating and a gas and charcoal grill, if you chose to use it. Because we were not staying seven days or more, there were no housekeeping services available and if you wished to replace your towels and linen, you had to bring them to the front desk for an exchange, which was no big deal. Right across the bridge in Reading there are places to eat, drug store, market, Imax movie theater, The Santander Area (for concerts and shows), and any array of performing arts venues. All and all this was a great location that met our needs for easy access to the concert venues for the festival. Would definitely stay here again. read more

We loved our stay at Candlewood. The room was so clean and comfortable. It even has dishwasher, stove, and sink. Also there's a free laundry. The staff was friendly. The swimming pool is nice and clean. They don't do housekeeping every day but it wasn't a problem for us. We enjoyed our stay and l would recommend this place. read more

Although the rooms look clean as in beds made, carpet swept.. The rooms here are very dirty. There's what looks to be blood or poop smeared on a bedroom wall, there's green substance that has ran down another wall and dried. This hotel needs a deep clean and an update. Nice stay for 2 nights here recently with my dad. Good rates, it was around $100/night for a Friday & Saturday night. I also used my points for my dad to stay here for Sunday night, it was 10,000 points in case anyone is wondering. Pros: - Location - as far as I can tell, this is pretty much the only hotel within walking distance of the cool/funky city that is Reading, PA. Also, of course, it's in West Reading, which is much more mainstream an area, lots of cute, cool boutiques, shops, restaurants, & bars. Sunday farmer's market about 2 blocks away on Penn Avenue - Comfy beds - Daytime staff is very friendly (not so much the nighttime staff) - Parking - I like that they have both underground parking & above-ground parking. Suits everyone's needs. Cons: - We had extended our stay a night & our keys weren't updated, when I went down to take care of that, the girl/woman working the night shift seemed super uninterested. I had to cough to even make her aware that I was standing there, & even then, she sat at her computer for a good 45 seconds before finally coming to help me. - One night I was there I ran down to the pantry for a snack & the same girl was behind the desk, she was in a panic & I heard her calling someone's room to tell them she gave them the wrong room. She then told the woman in front of her that basically, she had given away their reservation. She didn't seem to have an answer and just kept repeating "I can't believe I did that". I don't know what ultimately wound up happening, but the thought terrifies me that it could happen to me. read more

One star is too high. Place wreaked of weed. Hallway was like walking through a cloud and the room was not any better. There were people yelling in the hallway and stared us down till we got to our room. Windows were left open probably to air it out. We asked to have our room moved since we didnt want to smell weed all night, us or our kids. They moved us to the bottom floor, which smelled a little better, but was right above the entrance to the below ground parking, so every headlight would beam right into the room. Throughout the time, a police officer sat in the parking lot monitoring the area. We decided to leave and not stay. The front desk was unapologetic about everything and told us that the managers do not work on the weekends and call Monday and the manager would take care of the refund. We called Monday and the manager refused to give a refund because they moved us to another terrible room. She was extremely rude and also unapologetic. She said they weren't responsible for any of the complaints we had. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of other hotels in the area that are much better. This place wasnt even much cheaper either but it is a complete waste of money. I honestly have no idea how they have good reviews.... read more

Checked in on a Friday, noticed the room had a kitchen. I mean a complete kitchen with stove, sink, microwave and refrigerator. That's a plus if you dont feel like going out to eat. The hotel is located in west reading, so there was a mom and pop feel to it. The gym was basic but still allows for a adequate workout. Staff was friendly and always had free lemonade as well was coffee on the ready. If I'm in the area again I will keep this hotel in mind. read more

This hotel has been nothing but accommodating. They have helped with every phase of my stay and have continuously asked how they can make it better. The rooms were very neat and clean with plenty of space and a full kitchen! I would highly recommend this place. It is placed perfectly in town. Theft! I had sent the hotel a credit card authorization form they requested since I was paying for a family member and would not be the person checking in. I send the form back via email and then received a subsequent email from the same hotel email address the following day asking for the three digits of the CC, the billing address, and my social security number. I immediately called my credit card company, since no one ask for a SS number to charge a card, and the credit card company reported that two hours earlier there was an unauthorized purchase at Best Buy. When I called the hotel to ask them about this they said "oh, we just realized our email was hacked, we haven't check it all day" yet they were able to log in and read my emails back to me. They also acknowledged that no one else in the company had been hacked and no other emails had been hacked from that account. One employee even asked if I would screen shot my bank statement and send it to her cell phone to verify my identify! When I asked to speak to a manager they said no one was on site. We stayed here while visiting family. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We didn't use the shop they have on property, but there are great places to eat close by. The free parking and wifi are a huge bonus. We had a small problem with a bathroom appliance (thanks to our son), and Keith, the maintenance department manager, was at our room within minutes to fix it. Very friendly and attentive staff. Just a small suggestion, the lobby foyer really smells of cigarettes. It doesn't leave a good first impression. read more

Don't let the price of this hotel deter you - I have stayed at nearly every single hotel in the Reading area as I travel to Reading once a month for work. There are more expensive hotels in the area - double, triple the price - and the Candlewood Suites is on par with quality. The bedding is nice, the bathroom is clean, and there is a stove/fridge/microwave. Plenty of parking, a safe location, friendly staff, and convenient to West Reading restaurants. Also super convenient to get to Reading with the Buttonwood St Bridge being down. read more

I was very impressed with this place. Big rooms, full kitchen with all the plates and silverware you would need. Separate bedroom, large desk, lots of tv channels. They have a store in the lobby for food and the usual toiletries. I didn't use it but the selection looked sufficient. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to reading! read more

For my first time going somewhere without my husband to help me navigate an area I don't know, the staff was very accommodating. They were more than happy to help me out by calling for a cab to drive us to the show we were there to see. The manager even followed up the next morning to make sure everything had gone well the night before. The room was nice and clean. I loved my 2 nights stay at the Candlewood Suites. It was like being in an apartment. There was a kitchen witha full size fridge, 2 eyed stove and dishwasher, cabinets with pots,pans, cutlery and dishes but the wasnt an oven. I enjoyed a big dining/work area with seating for 3, a large living room with recliner, pull-out sofa flat screen TV and coffee table. The bathroom is large enough to be handicap accessible and was very clean. The bedroom was cozy with its 2 nightstands and desk/vanity. The king bed was clean and comfy and the flat screen on the dresser was at the perfect height. Also there is a snackbar in the lobby called the "cupboard" where you can get drinks, snacks and frozen meals. And lending locker where you can rent kitchen items, games and small appliances. Staff and option of laundry may be the only perk of here. For staying in multiple extended stay hotels, this hotel does not even compare. Hotel staff are very welcoming. There is a fee laundry option but beyond that you are better off at any regular hotel. The gym is small but suffice. The TV screen doesn't work on the elliptical so don't be surprised by that. Not sure if this has been ignored or not made a priority. The room was the smallest we ever had for an extended stay. No couch, no nothing. Good to note: We had a 12 day reservation. Bathroom had NO garbage can which seemed so odd. The hair dryer (ha) was unusable as it was attached so close to the mirror that the reset button could not be touched. WiFi changed weekly. Room service was WEEKLY (had option to ask form desk for anything but why!?). All other extended stays offered breakfast (you won't get any option here unless you want to pay even more) and sometimes cocktail hours or occasional dinners. Even with a long reservation, front desk had no issue with us taking business to another Hotel which has been than accommodating and embarrassed by our experience here. The only perk of this hotel is free laundry which really gives no reason to stay here. Find what you deserve in another hotel and just pay for laundry. read more

We came to town to see the Kevin Hart show and stayed the night at the Candlewood Suites. From check-in to check-out this was an amazing experience. Our room was perfect for our needs and the Pop-Secret in the microwave was an adorable touch. I want to give a special shout out to Eric the receptionist. Eric made our entire evening by helping us select the perfect board game when we got back from our big event. He was very attentive and even helped us return games that were missing pieces. Some games were incredibly difficult and he was very helpful and read us all of the rules, what a guy! He was so awesome and even suggested some sights to see in town the following day. Thanks to Kevin Hart, Eric, and Candlewood Suites for such a great time! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is traveling to the Reading area. read more

I stayed here for the night because I was attending a concert at the Santander Arena...I stayed in a Studio Suite and it was beautiful. Full fridge, coffee maker, stove, and a microwave with bags of popcorn inside. I've stayed at a fair share of hotels and the beds here were the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in. Downstairs there is the Candlewood Cupboard which has a very good selection of snacks, drinks, and microwave dinners. They even have board games available to borrow. This place could actually charge 150+ a night with what they give you. Never seen a hotel at a better value. Truly great service, amenities, accommodations, and overall experience. Everything from the newspapers, to DVDs, to laundry, to gym, to printing, to parking, and even food in the kitchen ( first of all no hotels have kitchens) are free. this place is really a class act! read more

Location is great to walk up Penn Ave for stores and restaurants. Outlets and Berkshire Mall are about 1 mile away, so all with in a very short driving distance. If in the area and your wanting sweets check out Kupkake Kouture. Awesome!!! About 2 blocks walk from hotel on Penn Ave(left side).
