A decade-plus span of loyalty to Hiller Ford (initial purchase as well as consistent maintenance visits)was severed because of extraordinarily poor customer service. I brought my SUV in to Hiller to address a FORD transmission recall (Ford has a history of being #1 for recall issues)and also for routine maintenance that included a transmission flush. {side note-- I had also requested other work that was not listed on my final invoice, called Hiller, and left a voicemail to see if it was done or not. I never got a callback. } The day following the completion of the recall work and maintenance, my transmission failed. I brought my vehicle back to Hiller, identified the onset of new transmission failure and also inquired about my unanswered VM. The desk advisor admitted that he had 22 unanswered messages because he did not have the time (? really?). He also confirmed that the other work I had requested was NEVER done. He insisted that the transmission failure was not related to my previous visit, was unable to adequately explain his rationale, and that an expensive diagnostic was required to determine what was wrong. Reportedly, Hiller had only one tech that worked on transmissions and there was no definite timeline for me to get an assessment of the problem. The Hiller debacle concluded with the advisor calling later that day to report I required a $9000 transmission replacement. Needless to say I refused, retrieved my vehicle, and paid the bill for another $400 for their useless diagnostic. What stings the most is that I always spoke highly of the Hiller attitude from day one and of our family's loyalty to this dealership. How sad on so many levels. This is a review for Ned, who works in the bodyshop located in the "Quick Lane" building next to Hiller Ford. They all seem to share the same number and certain facilities. Actually, Ned received a 5-star rating. My experience with the rest of the Hiller Ford knocked down a star. It was mainly for the confusion. I went in to Ford first thinking that's where I was supposed to go, but then was told by a rep to go to the next building (after he looked at me like I'm a fool for brining in a Toyota car to a Ford dealer), then in the Quick Lane building, the reps at the desk had to again direct me to Ned, whose office is to the left. Overall, things were awkward. After the initial awkwardness, Ned was great at fixing up my car, which needed a new side mirror. Things were all fixed up nicely, and I received the car back super clean and well fixed. Well satisfied! Oh, and the Quick Lane building has a TV, lounge chairs, and a coffee maker (you have to pay for coffee, $0.50-$0.75, but can also ask the receptionist for a token for any coffee). There is one long desk that you share with 2 other chairs, but it's right under a loud tv. And there's complimentary water and cookies. read more

Service manager (Don) lied to me about the name on the invoice. Invoice says A & W 2000. That is not even close to the name of our business. Don told me that A & W was our leasing company. Not true. I asked to get it changed to our name & he says that it's not possible (as it has already been processed). Paid over 20k to have van fixed (yes, $20,000!). Was given the key & told to walk in the back & get it. Noticed the van not at all cleaned out at all (windshield was covered with dirt from recent snow melt) when I walked (alone) to find the van. Inside of van was not cleaned either (no paper mats either). I understand that not all dealerships are the same however, the other Ford dealerships always did this for us in the past. After trying to start the van, it wouldn't start. I walked back in & they send a Tech with a jumper pack. The Tech told me that it was good to go. I asked for him to check the battery after I didn't feel comfortable taking it until it was tested. I left and asked them to call me when it was charged. I got a call a few hours later stating that the battery was junk and that it would be about $210 for a new one to be installed. I told him to go ahead and paid the $210+. It's a good thing that I didn't take the van as the Tech told me too. Or it would have been another towing bill. I am extremely dissatisfied with your dealership and the service department. Today is 50% day in my Hiller experience. We bought a 2017 CPO Ford Escape 114 days ago and it has been in service for 57 days awaiting an engine replacement - and there is no end in sight! In the last 57 days the only alternative management and ownership have provided is literally "hope for the best". The Hiller Ford Motto is "Expect More". In my experience, you should expect very little and once you sign on the dotted line you can expect nothing other than disinterest and condescension. read more

After experiencing bait & switch at 2 other Ford dealerships, I tried one more time at the recommendation of a friend who had a good experience here. I found the vehicle I wanted on their website, and contacted them about it. We were ready to close the deal; I was just waiting to hear from them about the APR for the loan (I have very good credit, but I don't sign paperwork without all the details spelled out)... and then it was ghost town. I tried to contact them for several days... waited several more days... nothing. They completely ghosted me. I believe this was a bait & switch, OR that they sold the vehicle out from under me. But either way, this was a very disappointing experience. And after trying to buy a Ford from 3 different Ford dealerships, and getting nowhere, I ended up buying a Ford from a non-Ford dealership. Everyone I dealt with was very friendly... when I could actually reach them. But friendliness doesn't sell a vehicle. When I finally heard back from the finance guy asking why things seemed to be hung up, I told him I already had my new Ford from a different dealership sitting in my driveway, and I have no clue why both he and the salesman had completely ghosted me. Note: This review is for the Hiller Ford Service department. I came in for tires. I was given a quote and told that they do price match and what was needed for the price match. I agreed on the price and the service and a quick google search revealed that there were the same Tires at Walmart for $30 less. When I presented this to the guy he went to speak with the service manager who relayed the message. He asked me to go to Walmart and bring the paper estimate back. When I came home I read the small print and official small print read that online quotes are also accepted. Service to my truck was great Aaron in service kept me fully informed during my trucks 2 week stay at Hiller Service...ONLY issue was when I went to pick truck up on Saturday morning, is when i handed the clerk taking the payment my credit card, she for some reason asked me what my credit limit was....it took me by suprise because it's nobody's business. I honestly felt insulted as if she was profiling me and my ability to pay. Given the fact that I have a excellent credit score and could afford any vehicle on the Hiller lot or on a Mercedes Benz lot makes me think she is not trained properly for a customer service job... I have been a big fan of this dealership due to them not only getting me approved in 2016 for a 2017 car but it help my credit. I am disappointed in my last purchase to say the least. I traded in my 2017 for a 2019, and feel that my sales my just wanted his commission verse knowing what it wanted. My displeasure is that my 2017 had more upgrade than the 2019 and I am paying more monthly. I wish I had of not been so trustworthy assuming that he knew wanted I wanted in a vehicle since I purchase the first one from him and made the point of only seeing him. So I am happy that you got your commission. because I am not happy with the 2019 which does not have the navigation, system or the crash alert, shame on me for not taking it for a test drive and being sure that it had what I wanted. In 2018 I bought a 2016 certified pre-owned Ford Explorer. It had 20,000 miles on it. On December 24, 2022 while on my way to Minnesota the timing chain went causing the motor to die. It was below zero and blowing snow. The car had 61,000 miles on it. I called Hiller they said it was no longer in warranty. They didn't care and would not do anything about it. I ended paying 7000.00 for a new motor. I would not recommend Hiller Ford. read more

I live in Beach Park, IL just south of the Wisconsin border. I found a Ford F250 super duty diesel that I was interested in at Hiller. I read a lot of reviews and Hiller seemed like a decent place to check out. I reached out through car gurus and my email was returned by Dennis Gonzalez, their Internet specialist. Vehicle was still available so I made the trip which was about 45 minutes each way. Took the vehicle for a test drive and really liked it. Explained my credit wasn't the best, but was told no worries I'm pretty confident our business manager knows people and will get this done for you. Dennis said were a no haggle store. Our price is our price. Much like Carmax. I was trading in a 2014 Chevy Silverado. They offered me 25and some change. I shopped at Ray Chevrolet in Foxlake and they offered me 28k. Well needless to say after some haggling they arrived at 28k Dennis said now we need to take a $500 deposit. And then we can get working for you on this. I was apprehensive. But I thought well they probably can get me financed. Dennis was a nice guy. So I gave in and gave him a 500 deposit with my credit card. I asked if it was a refundable deposit and Dennis said yes. I went into the finance managers office and I was asked several questions. Told them I would like to put down 2500. Possibly could do 5000. She said let us work on it and we will get back to you. I came home and filled out the credit application online. I didn't hear from anybody for several days. I emailed Dennis back wondering what was going on, and was told I got the vehicle if I came up with 9000. I said no I'm not interested in putting that much down. Please refund my credit card. Little did I know I had to drive all the way back to get a refund on my card. Of course they told me several days later this was how it had to be done. Complete hassle. What waste of my time. Three hours driving. A couple hours at the dealership. Unbelievable. I went back to Ray Chevy in Fox Lake and worked the deal with no problem. $2500 down. Have a beautiful 2015 truck in my driveway. I'm completely satisfied with Ray Chevy. When I went back today for my refund Dennis said sorry about that but we only work with so many banks. I wish I would've known that before putting down a deposit and wasting all my time. Funny thing is that Ray Chevy never asked for a deposit. I wrote them a check in the finance office when signing the paperwork. I know I read all sorts of reviews online bashing businesses and companies and people. I'm not into that. Just writing an honest review with my experience. Dennis was a nice guy. Personable and took time to show me several of the Ford F150's in the lot. I appreciated that. Answered a lot of my questions which I also appreciated. I felt confident with him. It always amazes me how dealers will push you for the big bucks $$$$ and then can find a bank to work with you. My father and I have been loyal customers of Hiller Ford for 14 years. We've purchased three cars from them two brand new. After today we will no longer step foot in Hiller Ford. I made an appointment two weeks in advance to have a possible transmission issue looked at with my vehicle. Last Thursday the 26th I brought my car in on time at 7am. I got a call at 3pm "we have no technicians available today do you want to pick it up or leave it here? we maybe able to look at it tomorrow". There was no apology for the inconvenience. This was disappointing in the 14 years we've been coming to Hiller we've never had our vehicles not looked at the same day. The next day I got a call around noon that a tech just started looking at my vehicle. 15 hours after I dropped it off it now was just being looked at. Again no apology for the inconvenience. I got a call around 1:30 that the issue with my car was the shift actuator. I questioned that before agreeing to pay for it. As service counter employees at Griffin Ford, and Hiller Ford told me that my car issue "sounds like a transmission issue". I was told there's nothing wrong with the transmission and my car was now driving quote "smoothly". I came and picked up my keys the car stalled before I even pulled out of the dealership. I went back in and spoke to a manager. I was told someone would call me on Monday and things "would be made right". I decided to come in on Monday the 30th instead. Collin the front desk person who I had been interacting with told me I had to go for a ride with the lead service tech. Our ride lasted 30 seconds at most. My car stalled the moment it pulled out of the dealership. The lead service tech said to Collin in front of me "it most likely is the transmission make sure it's covered under warranty". The next day today I got a call around 2 pm from Collin "the issue wasn't just the shift actuator it's the entire shift it'll be $4500 to replace but we'll credit $500 for labor for the inconvenience". I said I did not want to stick that much money into a 11 year old car and asked how much of a refund will I be issued? He put me on hold to speak to the service center manager. The manager told Collin he would give me $267 back. What???? If I give Hiller 4K they'll credit me $500 but if I give them nothing I get $267 back? That math is not mathing. Collin transferred me to the service center manager who told me that "they weren't wrong with their original diagnostic that the shift actuator was a part of the problem". I said it didn't improve anything replacing it he told me "my tech drove 25 miles in your car with no problems". I said your lead service tech and I didn't even make it 60 seconds with out it stalling please ask him if you don't believe me. I said I shouldn't have to pay for labor and a diagnostic that wasn't done correctly. This gentleman who's the service center manager said to me "well next time we'll take the entire shift apart piece by piece and charge you $900 for diagnostic". That is not how you speak to a customer and I will not be spoken to like that. There will be no next time my father and I will take our business elsewhere. read more

The three of us took both cars for a test drive, and hubby and I decided which one we were going to go with. We were able to take advantage of not only the auto show rebate, but also the 0% interest financing for 72 months. Terri in the finance department was also very helpful. She did a great job of explaining everything and made the paperwork process easy. In the end, we were able to get the vehicle that we wanted, with a monthly payment that works for us. Yay! Let me start off by saying a lot of this may be my fault. I went into Hiller Ford looking for a specific used car. Normally I call before hand to see if the car is available before I drive over there, but this time I had time so I just went. Note: it's not far from my parents house which is where I was coming from. Now my car is crap. No heat/ac it's seen better days. I got approved for a car loan through my Credit union so he sent me "car shopping" We get to Hiller Ford and I find that the car that is within my loan amount had been sold the day before and it takes 24 hours to be removed from online. Totally get that. So then he starts showing me other used vehicles on the lot. One in particular he kept pushing but it was $871 dollars over what I was approved for. It was a very nice car but it was out of my budget. I expressed that SEVERAL times but felt like he was not listening. I took it for a test drive to maybe ease him off, let him know I needed to think about it ect. Well that didn't work. I told him I need to take it to my credit union but I didn't think it Was going to work because of the amount and I don't know how many times I expressed that. So I went to my credit union. They pretty much laughed and told me flat out no. Which I can't even be mad! I knew they were going to. When I called back and told him it was not going to work I got "we will take care of you come back in. "So they wanted to try leasing, I expressed my credit wasn't the best so I didn't want to go that route I already had a pre-approved loan, whatever. He insisted. This time I brought my dad, he said he would co-sign if needed but his credit wasn't that great either but they said it would be fine. A week later we are still figuring out what's going on because he was out of the office one day and the other guy was out the next. Whatever. They reached out to 10 different financial institutes. 10. Which when you have 10 banks doing a hard search on your credit report it hurts it. Which is did. Only to get a phone call today saying it's not going to work, there's nothing they can do. That was it. Now I get the only reason he was really trying to push some type of sale is because he's commission based. Totally get that. I'm frustrated because even though I said no multiple times my credit score ended up going down and I wound up with nothing. I wasn't as firm as I should have been because they made it seem like it would be worth my time to my dad and my dad thought I should just try it. Granted they were all nice. But when someone says it's over my budget, listen and let them walk away. read more

I finally got it to Hiller when the vehicle was just over 36,000 miles. Turns out the work I needed would cost around $650 and being over the warranty mileage I would have to pay. I worked with Don and he took care of me; steered me in the right direction and got my car fixed. I paid a small deductible. After graduating college and getting an adult job, I decided that a reliable and safe vehicle was a worthy investment. After a significant amount of shopping my friend who works at Hiller, Ben Junger, introduced me to a few models and the styling, economics, and roominess in the Focus hatchback peaked my attention. In December of 2013, I made the purchase and haven't looked back. The salesman, Ben, was courteous, knowledgable, and friendly. While Ben is a personal friend of mine, I do not believe he treated me any differently than any other customer. While we were waiting on paperwork and such, I noticed the other potential buyers around me were receiving the same personalized service that I was. I have since taken the car to both the service center and the "quick lube center," or whatever it is that Hiller calls the drive-up oil change center. The service center folks were very friendly, despite them letting me know that the "noise" my car was making was normal (Years of driving a junker made me paranoid.). Oops, sorry for wasting your time guys/gals! The quick lube center was just good. The knowledgable and friendly staff, let's call him Ted - because that's his name - was outgoing and charismatic. He educated a nice young lady about some parts of her vehicle that she asked about while I was waiting. I was in and out quickly, and with fresh cookies, ice water, and Keurig coffee. My Focus will have a long life with proper care, but I will be buying ftom Hiller when I need to do it all again. read more

We had our vehicle towed here after it was recovered from being stolen. Our insurance company is covering the damage 100%. We were given the cold shoulder when we dropped it off and the guy in the service department wrote my name on a scratch piece of paper. We were told it would be re-keyed immediately so it couldn't be stolen from the lot since it was recovered without the keys. A week later the adjuster came out and gave an estimate of $5700. My husband called the following day to find out what kind of timetable we were looking at and was told they couldn't move the truck. We knew that and told them that when the flat bed tow dropped it off. A week later I called to check the status.... Ned said they haven't had a chance to look at it yet as they are very busy... it hasn't moved for 2 weeks!! And when I asked about re-keying it, Ned told me it wasn't done and I was lying about being told that. He also told me I was lying about having a check in my hand from the insurance company for the repairs. Come to find out a week after the adjuster came out they still hadn't even ordered parts to fix my truck...it needs a new radio, rear view mirror, windshield...seat covers......none of which have been even ordered yet...... After a long conversation with Ned who had no explanation besides they were busy, I asked to speak to his manager, in which he told me he was the manager. I paid to have my Ford truck towed to Holz Chevy to repair today. Keep in mind this will easily be a $10,000 insurance payment. Ned told me if you call there today for service on your car it will probably take 2 weeks to get in...funny when my friend called right after I got off the phone they offered and appointment on Monday! Dennis reached out quickly after my on-line interest and assisted me from scheduling my test-drive, through putting my plates on the night I left the lot. It was really nice to have someone working with me consistently from beginning to end. I trusted his knowledge and felt really comfortable that he was giving me all I needed to know in making my decision. It doesn't take a lot for me to be turned off by poor customer service or what can sometimes seem like "hot air", but Dennis was pretty much perfection in that department: honest, enthusiastic and kind. One disappointment in my experience, though, was that with the manager who helped me close off on my paperwork... Jim? He had a pretty poor attitude, was snippy with me when I had questions, and overall didn't seemed to care about the joy that should come at the end of purchasing a new car. My husband said as we left, "well, Jim really sucked the happiness out of THAT room. As a business owner, I would never put him at the end of a deal." Went to Purchase a 2016 Ford Edge, young man in the lot said " he was a used salesman, let me introduce you to one of the ladies in the office" I started to work with Pam. Came back later to purchase the car, Pam was not in. Dealt with a "Steve". Insulted me and my friend. The deal I had with Pam increased by $7000 dollars. He would not listen to me , kept saying " I don't appreciate you insulting my integrity or intelligence. " We left. Went to a different dealership and purchased a New 216 Ford Edge with all the incentives, 2 year loan which Steve kept arguing with me about insisting I needed a 5 year loan at 0% Final cost at other dealership $20,000 versus hiller ford at $27,000.00 their lost!!!!! I've had so many issues with this service department, that I no longer even own a Ford for the first time since I started driving. From being charged $300 more than I was quoted, to having a reoccurring problem with my transmission that was covered under warranty that they fixed, only to have it break again. On top of it, when I brought it in and told them I was having the same exact problems, they told me I would be having different issues if that needed to be fixed. I bought a van from Hiller Ford, and in nine months have had three major issues, including a rusted out underbody (that wasn't disclosed) and now, a blown motor. Dave Ligus, the used car manager, said I was out of luck and they wouldn't help. A day later they said they'd contribute $500 toward my $3,800 repair.
