A few days later - after flushing the air out of the brake system - I took the car down to Pearson to get an estimate. Mike whipped up a quick estimate to give me an idea of how much it would cost to fix, as I was trying to decide if I should just pay for it myself or go to insurance. Well, as expected, it was a bit more than I could afford, but cheaper than other another place in town, so I called up my insurance, returned to Pearson to get a full estimate, and Mike emailed me the full estimate and his photographs. I forwarded these materials to my insurnace company and within a day got the go-ahead to have the car fixed. Slick! They got the car on a Monday, hammered the fender straight, then repainted and clear-coated by Friday so I could bring the car to its first car show (Rev It Up! in Lawrence) on Saturday. Brought it back in on Monday so they could do the final buffing. What's even nicer is that both Mike and his wife were willing to drop me off at home (or pick me up later) as needed. Whatta crew! Let me just say WOW. They matched 45-year-old paint PERFECTLY, and the fender looks nicer now than it did when I bought the car, like new. Oh, and Mike showed me his restoration project, a soon-to-be gorgeous Austin-Healey in the shop, which he works on during down-times. Highly recommeded if you do something dumb to your vintage ride and need a shop you can trust to undo the dumb.

He has had nothing but good things to say about Rick, and the business that he runs over at Dale and Ron's. So, when I needed work done on my car, my Granddad gratefully headed over to Dale and Ron's to talk with Rick about what we could do. This was about 4 years ago. Since that time, I have been to see Rick multiple times, for a variety of reasons. Every time I go in, he greets me with a smile on his face, and a shake of the oil soaked hand. I have to admit, Rick is a bit old fashioned when it comes to his office. The office is small, and lacks one thing that most people just assume come with any office now a days. Rick doesn't use a computer. Shocking I know. Some how he makes it work though. You have to be sure to give him a call, and he writes everything down in a notebook that he keeps on his desk. So, to the reason I am writing this today. I have recently purchased a new car, well recently being a year ago, and have yet to take it in for any kind f service. Lately there have been some funny things happening to it, so without going into detail, I'll just say that I needed to take it in. I have learned over the course of time not to take a car into the dealer, unless it is absolutely necessary. However, there in lies the problem. I now drive a Saab, and for any of you who know anything about the darn machines should know that they are virtually impossible to get work done on them. To make a complicated story short, Saab was bought by Saturn which went out of business a few years ago, so now its extremely difficult to get parts. Additionally, those Swedes went against the grain when designing their car, cause no one knows how to work on them. All of this being said, I called up Rick and explained the situation and he told me to drop it off the next morning and he would do everything in his power to get it fixed. I showed up this morning around 8:15 AM to drop the car off, and there was Rick with a cup of coffee and a smiling face. He greeted me by name, asked for the key, and with a shake of the hand told me he would give me a call by this afternoon. Now, for the shop. It is a bit out of the way to be honest. You have to drive past Mass, and down into the old part of Lawrence. If you didnt know it was there, you wouldnt find it. You have to hop onto Connecticut and then follow it until you hit 8th and see the "dead end" sign. Its a quaint building, with cars parked all around the place, waiting either to be looked at, or picked up. The man has a great reputation, as evident by the number of cars that pack the place every time I happen by. In the past, when taking my car over to Dale and Ron's I have gotten reasonable and accurate quotes. Rick has definitely helped me out of a pickle or two in the past. If you're needing some work done on your mode of transportation, give Dale and Ron's a call and set up an appointment to drop it off. Its hard to find a good mechanic, 15 years of loyalty on the part of my grandfather speaks for itself.

However, after having my auto serviced yesterday, I feel like a part of their family! This is truly the best automotive business in which to take your auto. You will most likely be greeted by Paige upon entering. She is professional and extremely kind and knowledgeable. Paige sent quotes to me before I took my auto in, she's awesome! I had planned on reading for 4-5 hours while waiting for my auto. Paige spoke with Micah (owner) and he went to warm up his truck to take me home. That was unexpected, appreciated and over the top customer service! I had a list from the dealership in KC of everything that needed to be done for maintenance. The pricing was SO much better with Garber, but in addition, they told me several of the items on the list did NOT need attention. Micah could have ripped me off and charged me to do some things that didn't need to be done. I have such peace of mind now that I found a place that I trust to maintain my auto!! Sunday afternoon and a friend noticed I had a screw in my right front tire. OMG! I commute for my…read morejob and had to leave my house at Dark Thirty the next morning. Could not believe my bad luck with the screw. I was panicked. What in the world was I going to do? Thankfully, my friend suggested that I take my car to Westside 66. I actually looked at him like he was crazy because it was a Sunday afternoon. He assured me they were still open. I have to confess that I did not entirely believe him. LOL. He said, "They can fix it in 10 minutes and it will cost you about $16." Yeah, right. So I headed Westside 66 and kept my fingers crossed. The cashier told me to pull around back and they would look at the tire. Honestly, within ten minutes... the tire was fixed and it cost $16. I could not believe my good luck on finding this place. The mechanic who worked on my tire was nice, professional and he knew exactly what to do to get me fixed. He did not waste time with small talk and he got me right on my way. The cashier was very nice and courteous. She, too, was professional and very helpful. I appreciate her guidance. I asked her if they had been busy and she said it was a slow day for them. It was hard to believe it was a slow work day because both bays were filled and other cars were lined up for service. I will definitely go back to this station for service. As I was leaving work yesterday, I could hear a rhythmic "thuk thuk thuk" as I drove down the ramp of my work parking garage. I thought it might have been a rock embedded in the tread of my tire, but when I pulled over to investigate I instead found half an inch of a bolt sticking out of the center of my tread. I called D&D because I've had good experience with them in the past, and I asked if they would be open if I could get my car to them in the next 40 minutes. They let met know that they would be open for another hour, and that if I could get the car to them, they could patch me up. After a quick tire change, I was on the road, and made it in their door 20 minutes before closing. They took my keys, pulled my car in, and went right to work. They extracted the bolt, and let me know that it looked like it probably was broken off of another person's car, but that they could apply the plug and patch that would take care of the hole. A few minutes later, they let me know that it was all done and I was ready to go. Not only did they take care of plugging the tire that I had been transporting in my trunk, but they also replaced it on the vehicle, and put away my donut spare and the tray with the scissor-jack. All told, I was finished and back on the road as if I never had a tire puncture in under 20 minutes for less than $20. I am very thankful to D&D, not only because they patched up my tire in small emergency, but that they fit me in to a small window just before closing time, and took care of me as a customer. Incidentally, I had bought these tires from D&D about a month ago, and I had very good service then and have been very happy with the work. I had not yet written a review about that service, but that work on my tires (and at a reasonable price for four quality tires, mounted and balanced, as well as a brake job that took care of a longstanding issue with a warped rotor) coupled with this excellent service for a puncture has elevated D&D up to a level of greatness in my opinion. This is the kind of solid work that engenders loyalty among customers.
