Hildy's is a special place. A place where people attempt to relive their college years. A place where if you enter even for a split second you will leave reeking of cigarette smoke. When going to Hildy's you MUST take it for what it is: a towny dive bar. That said, they actually have some stellar local beer available here and also everything you'd expect. A good time will be had, but don't be surprised if your significant other asks you to burn your clothes upon your return home.

Love you Uncle David

This is the best damn dive bar in Lancaster! Just the kind of corner bar I used to hang out in when I grew up in Philly!

The Coffin Bar - Atmosphere wall paper is cool!

The Coffin Bar

We walked…read morearound and around and couldn't find anything else that caught our eye so we went back to The Coffin. They welcomed us in, told us to sit at any open table. They stay true to their name with their decor. They were coffin shaped shelves, gothic/satanic themed wallpaper. It's all very well done. Very unique! One of the staff members came over to tell us that their beer and spirits are all from PA. This was music to our ears! We ordered a local IPA. We shared the Brussels Caesar salad. It had crispy brussels sprouts and arugula. Topped homemade crouton. Dusted with Parmesan. It was delicious! Loved this spot! Will go back the next time we're in town!

Coffin Bar is one of the more distinctive brunch spots in Lancaster, and it works better in…read moredaylight than I expected. The vibe leans goth, with a definite metal/punk edge rather than a tightly curated "theme bar" look. It's not as uniformly designed as the name might suggest, but it is interesting and cohesive enough to feel intentional. During brunch, the space is well-lit, and they keep the heavy metal/thrash/punk soundtrack going at a very low volume, exactly the right choice. It supports the aesthetic without turning brunch into a performance. The food is the reason to come. The menu is built around the seven deadly sins (Lust, Gluttony, Wrath, etc.), and everything we tried was outstanding. Between the two of us we had Lust and Gluttony, and both were excellent, high quality, well-executed, and clearly made with care. Service was solid: efficient, reasonably quick, and professional. Not overly chatty, but attentive enough that you don't feel ignored. Drinks were fine. The mimosa and Bloody Mary were exactly what you'd expect: competent and enjoyable, nothing gimmicky. Logistics are also manageable for a downtown spot. Parking exists in the area, including garages nearby, and it's a comfortable walk if you're already in the city center. Overall: a fun, slightly offbeat atmosphere paired with genuinely great brunch food. If you like a darker aesthetic but still want a bright, relaxed daytime meal, Coffin Bar is an easy recommendation.

South County Brewing - To-go beer fridge at the entrance!

South County Brewing

I've had South County beers over the years and already knew their reputation for great stuff thanks…read moreto friends. This was my first visit to any of their locations and I really enjoyed it. This one is in downtown Lancaster, so it's easy to get to if you're walking from other breweries, bars, or historic sites. They also have easy parking in a garage nearby, it's cheap but not validated. In the warm months, they have a ton of outdoor seating in the courtyard, that I'm sure is a fun place to be. Inside is also huge, with tables and booths toward the back, a full kitchen, and bar area up front. I also loved the little sofa areas in the window. At the host stand, they also have brewery merchandise. We sat at the bar; they don't do flights so I chose a couple smaller pours of the beers that sounded the best. The all lived up to my memory. The bartender was also super friendly, as was the host. It was a weekday early afternoon and it seemed like everyone there was already enjoying themselves. They have a great selection of fresh to-go beers as well. Prices are reasonable for the quality. If you're a beer fan exploring beautiful downtown Lancaster, this is a great place to stop for a pint.

Alex was our server and was very attentive. A really great personality. I love sitting in the courtyard. When this was the Pressroom I was here all of the time. I love the waterfalls also, so relaxing. NOW for what I didn't like. They now charge 3% for credit card use. This is a pet peeve of mine. Credit Card companies have charge every business a fee for their use. It is not something new. Grocery stores, movies, bars, department stores, sporting events, etc. This is a scam in my opinion. My advise average out the cost of the CC and raise your prices to meet that demand, or raise your prices and give me a discount for cash. Almost no one carries cash, captive audience. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO CHARGE FOR A DEBIT CARD USE, IT IS NOT A CREDIT CARD AND THE BANK DOES NOT CHARGE 3%. Durbin Amendment (part of the Dodd-Frank Act of 2010), prohibits merchants nationwide, including Pennsylvania, from applying surcharges to debit card transactions.

I say surprising because my first reaction was disappointment at the small size of the menu. Once we decided to roll with it and take a recommended path of sharing several small plates, it turned into one of those meals that reminds you why you go out to eat in the first place. We ordered several elevated small plates, but the standout was the crispy rice with spicy tuna. It was flawless. The rice base was perfectly golden and crunchy on the outside with just enough tenderness inside. On top, the spicy tuna was fresh, buttery, and beautifully balanced -- not overly mayo-heavy, not overly spicy -- just clean, bright flavor. The drizzle underneath added a subtle creaminess that tied everything together without overpowering the texture. Every bite delivered contrast: warm and crisp against cool and silky, with little pops of sesame and microgreens adding dimension. It felt thoughtful, refined, and executed with real attention to detail. Pair that with the rooftop atmosphere -- polished but relaxed -- and the whole experience felt elevated without being pretentious. If this dish is any indication, The Exchange understands how to take something familiar and make it memorable.
