Place has steadily gone down hill. Hard pass! Disgruntled staff and poor food quality!

We come here for the ice cream regularly (delicious house made ice cream, house made whipped cream, sundaes are the best) but we'd never eaten the food before yesterday. I wasn't expecting much, maybe something like regular diner food, but honestly the food was absolutely delicious. I had the Chicken Kelly and they had no problem making it without flour for me (gluten free), my friend's burger looked amazing and the fresh made potatoes (chips? Flat fries?) were so good. My kids said their chicken fingers and Mac n Cheese were "bussin." My only complaint, if I had to give one, was that one person's food came out way before everyone else's and it looked soooo good that the conversation just halted bc we couldn't stop drooling over his plate and stealing his fries. Old school type restaurant, almost like a diner or family style restaurant. Had an egg cream for the first time and a jalapeño cheeseburger with fries. I was going to order the $8 milkshake but was too full to have it. I didn't like the fries because they were like potato chips. $3.25 for 6 onion rings was a bit steep in price. While it was an good experience because the service was good, one patty cheeseburger for $15 is a bit expensive. My total with tip was $30! Honestly I enjoy 5 guys, burgerfi, shake shack for less. 6/27/23 If you want terrible service and an overpriced mediocre meal, this is the place to go. My server was a young white guy in his early 20s with brown hair and a mullet. He didn't bring us water and took our napkins. He also didn't bring us boxes when I kindly asked him to. Additionally, the table was wet when we were seated and the ketchup bottle was empty. I had to reach over to the next table in order to get ketchup and napkins. We also had to wait 30 minutes for our food- a cheeseburger and a grilled cheese. The server didn't even ask how I wanted my burger cooked. It was overcooked, mediocre at best, and overpriced. Also, he asked what side I wanted even though it didn't come with a side. We were charged extra for the grilled cheese, the side that didn't come with the meal and an additional side that we didn't even order. Also, the seats are crappy, it is tight inside and the place is a little dumpy. Hildebrandt's is highly overrated and overpriced. If I could rate it zero stars I would. read more

Three waitresses worked as a team to be sure that everyone was taken care of. Sandwiches were good. But fudge ripple should not have fudge poured on vanilla ice cream -- fudge should be incorporated into the ice cream and butter pecan with teeny tiny chopped pecans that were basically specks in vanilla ice cream. Hmmmm, Hildebrandt's you can do better. Cappucino chip was yummy, but also needed to taste more of coffee and less of chunks of chocolate. Great potatoes sliced and fried -- delicious. After 96 years in business, we wish you continued success. I had said never again in my last review, but sometimes you just want an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. Hildebrandt's would earn five stars just for it's ice cream. Great flavors served with the best whipped cream in Nassau county! Their hot fudge is asking a treat. But their excellence isn't limited to dessert. Do yourself a favor and have dinner first. The burgers are great and their Pasta a la Mama is one of my wife's all time favorite pastas. Came here on a Friday night with a friend just for dessert. The restaurant itself was fairly busy, so we opted for a table in the back corner. After being seated, 5 minutes later the waitress came over and took our drink orders. We stuck with water and looked up the menu. The majority of the menu was ice cream items such as sundaes, scoops and such. They also had a banana foster and 2 pie selections. Because we haven't seen each other in a while, we were having conversation rather than choosing our items quickly. The waitress came over 3 times asking us if we were ready yet!! On the third time we politely told her we would call her over when we were ready. Its hard to look at the menu and talk at the same time. In the end we stuck to a basic choice. I ordered the lemon meringue pie with vanilla ice cream, and my friend the apple pie (warmed) with butter pecan ice cream. Truthfully I didn't love my pie. It was way too sour and hadn't tasted fresh. The vanilla ice cream on the other hand was delicious!!! Super creamy and the perfect amount of sweet. My friend loved his apple pie and ice cream! I tried a bite of it and his pie tasted nice and warm, and way fresher than mine had tasted. Once we asked for the check, we didn't decide to pay right away- again we were finishing up our conversation and the place was starting to empty out (so it wasn't like she wanted to use our table for another party). She came by 2 times to see if we had paid the bill. Finally we were so annoyed than we paid the bill and tip and left. We felt like we were being rushed, and the restaurant was open for another 3 hours! If I ever did come back, it would only be for the ice cream. Truthfully service was eh. After calling many restaurants asking if there's a wait for 2 on a Friday night, every place told me that there's a 45 min to 2 hour wait but this place had no wait at all, which we were happy about. I was quite hesitant at first but I'm so glad we came here bc the chicken Parmesan hero I ordered was the best I've ever had. The bread was thin and toasted with a huge piece of chicken cutlet, cheesy, tender and marinated to perfection, every bite was simply delicious. My husband had the cheeseburger with fries, which was cooked perfectly with the freshest vegetables to top it off. The fresh sliced potato fries were also very good. The restaurant had a family vibe and the food staff was nice/accommodating. One negative part was that there is no parking lot so you have to find residential street parking. It was very cheap and the food came out quick so we will be back again especially to try their famous ice cream and sundaes. read more

The owners of this establishment have some balls to suggest between 22% and 31% tip. There was one teenager working this packed restaurant. Our orders were messed up, we couldn't get drinks aside of water and were there for too long. I'm assuming the staff working the restaurant are underpaid while the owners are well off and expect their clients to make up for how they rob their employees. Absolutely vile and not even worth the hype. Next time you go and are asked to pay a 31% tip for not so great food, ask the staff what they are making compared to the owners. read more

Was brought to Hildebrandt's by my brother and sister-in-law when I came to LI to visit them. First time visiting this place and I was very impressed. Terrific coffee shop-style food and fantastic homemade ice cream. My hubs had a cheeseburger with fries and I had a grilled cheese with bacon plus a chocolate egg cream. Hubs skipped out on dessert but had a bit of my peach ice cream. I hadn't had peach ice cream in over 40 years. It did not disappoint. I highly recommend this place. read more

I came here with my family pre-covid. We ordered a sundae and specifically said to make sure there were no nuts since some of us have allergies. The person preparing our food added them and tried to take them out instead of restarting our order. Everyone allergic had a reaction. Will not be coming here again. My sister and I went for some late afternoon treats after shopping. We're big fans of Triple D and wondered why we hadn't been here before when Hildebrandts is so close to us. Since it was mid-afternoon and we just needed something to hold us over until dinner; my sister ordered the blueberry pie and I ordered the banana sundae. My sister bit into her pie and immediately told me to grab my fork and try a piece. It was so warm and comforting, the crust was crumbly but not pastry-dough flakey. The homemade ice cream was creamy and lighter than your average supermarket pint. Let me talk about the fudge though, oh my dear lord. I put as much as I could of it on my ice cream and when I was done with that i just spooned it out. Holy smokes it was that good. As far as the restaurant itself, yes its shabby on the inside but its got a great hometown pride heart. The problem is that the breading is WAY too thick, and there is not enough cheese in them. They're thick and heavy and just feel like a brick in your stomach when you eat them. The fries are probably the best find here since they actually taste like deep fried fresh potato chips however. The saltiness is good for cutting all that sweetness. My boyfriend and I shared a fudge sundae with vanilla fudge and cookies n' cream ice cream. It was piled high with whipped cream, but the fudge part was lacking. I've had ice cream from places all over Long Island, but Hildebrandt's makes by far the best ice cream I have ever had (on Long Island). What makes Hildebrandt's so good is that the ice cream is made fresh, it's not Hershey's or Breyers that's mass produced and frozen and served. This key factor makes all the difference. I love the bananas foster flambé and a simple hot fudge sundae. The bananas foster is delicious with the right amount bananas, rum and sweet brown sugar syrup. Excellent burger and fries as per usual but left extremely annoyed and angry. I know they changed owners but I've been going here forever and it's just lost that "special touch". I came in with my family (husband, toddler and infant) and tried to order ice cream after our meal. We were told " we're only doing to-go orders now OR you can sit outside and eat it because we have a party coming in shortly. Sooo many things wrong with this...1. Bad customer service. Next time let people know before you seat them that they have limited time and would be rushed out the doors immediately after their meal. Im a paying customer too!!! 2. It was cold and windy and we have an infant with us. That's not an option exactly. 3. Thank god there were no tears but usually when you tell a toddler or young child they can no longer have ice cream , you're in trouble. She took it very well. Most likely because we promised we would go somewhere else for ice cream now. In addition, have you ever seen a toddler eat ice cream??? Eating in the car isn't an option and we live far away now. 4. We literally chose this place over another because they have ice cream!! No one cares there now. You have 7 waiters/waitresses on staff but No one knows what's going on. Our waiter forgot to come back to us to ask if we needed anything or for a coffee refill but was very attentive to his 4 buddies that just walked in. Its Poorly managed and has gotten really expensive. One Waitress is eating her food right in front of you (usually that's a "No no" in restaurants) It's sad. This place is an area staple. It's great for lunch since their burgers and sandwiches beat every diner in a 30 mile radius. I've had BLTs, Chicken Salad, Burgers... I have never left dissatisfied. My son has had pasta. There really seems to be no Achilles heel here. Of course it really comes down to the ice cream. It is made here and served old school style in real sundae glasses with the metal handle. They don't just pour chocolate syrup on ice cream. It is hot fudge or butterscotch. Real stuff. Table service is homey. The staff feel like real people and real New Yorkers. It adds authenticity. The interior could use a freshening up as long as they don't update it. The counter with round stools affixed to the floor are essential to the ambiance. I also might not mind a restroom with the square footage of a phone booth. This is THE place to get lunch if you can find a parking spot. If you can't, circle until you find one. If you're on Hillside Avenue anywhere from Williston Park LIRR station all the way past the Queens border you won't find an equal or even a close contender. After hearing the story on news 12, and the possible closing of this landmark in Williston Park since 1927,, I decided to give it a try,, after my visit I hope and pray that somehow this business can still stay open, the old luncheonette and soda fountain's of yesteryear are nearly gone, so if you like nostalgia good food great ice cream and desserts definitely come by and visit, all the ice cream is homemade,,The mozzarella sticks are probably some of the best I ever had, chicken broccoli soup was delicious meal with itself, they don't have traditional french fries, it's sliced liked potato chips, The chicken cordon bleu over rice was delicious, I loved their 8 ounce cheeseburger, chicken fingers and fries were good, spaghetti and meatballs was very good, now for the ice cream, I had the cookies and cream, chocolate, vanilla fudge, and coffee,All the flavors were outstanding, The service was terrific, very friendly staff, read more

A group of us stopped at Hildebrandt's for dessert. I struggled whether to give this circa 1927 ice cream parlor three or four stars. Out of respect for tradition, the experience and the nice staff 4 stars it is. Milk shakes were expertly prepared. The fudge covering the hot fudge sundaes was what hot fudge should taste like and the whipped cream which topped this sundae had the perfect balance of sweetness. I love wet walnuts and the ones here are great. One of our group really enjoyed her ice cream soda but since she had a cold she didn't share. Perfect banana splits. So why the struggle with the stars? While the ice cream itself was extremely flavorful, it was not creamy. This simply might be their style of churn and cream ratio but it was unexpected. Also, three flavors suffered a bit from icing. Burgers on the table of others looked good. Would I go back and try Hildebrand's again? Yes. read more
