This is my go-to spot when I'm in Williston Park, it's a spot I've been visiting since I was a kid and will continue visiting since the food and ice cream are so delicious! Ambiance has changed a lot since I was little, now going for more of a horse racing theme since they sponsor a race horse in Saratoga. Very cool but I do miss the vintage vibes! Maybe a few pictures of the original diner would be cool? The food is great. This was my first time trying the Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger and it was so tasty, especially paired with the homemade fries. Milano ice cream is top-tier! It's like cookies & crème but replaces Oreo with Milano cookies. Service was a bit slow, which was odd considering we were one of two tables at the time. Also, we ordered a burger with grilled onions and ended up with a cheeseburger (no onions) instead. Otherwise, all was well and staff was very nice. Ordered Cobb salad for delivery and this is such a disappointment. For 18$ this is nothing. Not packed at all, minimal tops and quantity of toppings. After removing the tomatoes, where's the lettuce? Half an egg, maybe 2 pieces of bacon chopped up and half of a tomato hugely sliced. Not a dense salad at all. Dressing was tucked into salad too. Not worth it in my opinion. I drove by this place a few times and finally stopped by. The store front is eye catching, with the fascia lettering giving it a vintage feel. Inside the nostalgic feeling continues with a diner style set up, stools at the bar and tvs playing sports. The staff is very kind and helpful. I ordered a grilled cheese burger and a chocolate quad shake, totaling to a $20 lunch. I enjoyed my lunch. The burger felt made me feel at home which made me very happy. I am so sorry to give this review. I have wanted to come here for so long and was so disappointed. Upon entering it is a beautiful, fun, authentic ice cream parlor restaurant, complete with black and white tiled floor, metal / tin ceiling, counter etc. Service although nice was really lacking. Our food came and the portions were noticeably small. 4 1/2 onion rings as a side dish? I had a grilled cheese sandwich which was on the small side, a teaspoon of coleslaw and the tiniest 2 slices of pickles I've seen.One in my group ordered a maple egg cream and was excited to get it. Unfortunately, it was delivered after we finished eating, table was cleared and we were ready to leave. So we said we no longer wanted it, and the server seemed annoyed . We told her why , as it had not been delivered earlier. Fortunately, another woman came over, apologized and offered a discount on our bill which was appreciated. She was very nice. Another nice thing is that , a man ( possibly the owner) went around early on and gave all the kids a little toy or craft thing which was really nice and appreciated. It's been a long time since I've been here last. Long enough that I've since graduated middle school, high school, college, and went and got married and had kids. We stopped in the other day after going to Hicks for pumpkins and Otto, and it was pleasantly empty for an early-ish friday. We were promptly sat, but it took a little while for someone to come to our table. Food was ordered all at once, and let me tell you, everything is as incredible as I remember it. I was craving a burger and the Williston Park hit perfectly. They were decorated for halloween, but the memories of 20+ years prior were there like they never left. I've passed by this diner so many times and my husband has always wanted to come so we finally made it in with some friends after many years! They seat you once you come in and the decor inside is so cute. I love how it feels like an old school soda shop / ice cream parlour. They even make their own cola! Service was quick and there was quite a few groups of people inside so the staff didn't check up on us much, but that's fine. We got some drinks to start (lemonade, orangeade, homemade coke, soda floats) and they were overall pretty good. I also love that the drinks came with a glass straw, which honestly made it more fun to drink out of. The lemonade and orangeade were very refreshing, not too sweet. The soda float was definitely heavier as expected but being an ice cream shop, it seemed like a must. There's also so many ice cream flavors which we were unfortunately too full to try their sundaes and will need to make another trip back for! We got burgers, chicken tenders and fries, onion rings, fries, and a tuna melt. Their side of fries is completely different from the fries that came with the chicken tenders. The side of fries were more of fried slices of potatoes while the fried with the chicken tenders were the thin classic fries. The chicken tenders were small and that appetizer overall just needed some extra flavor. The tuna melt was good, hard to mess up. Burgers were thick and the cheese was melted perfectly on the burgers but it was lacking a bit of flavor as well. We also weren't expecting it to come with rolls as the buns, which isn't preferred. Hildebrandt's is a classic 1920's soda shop and ice cream parlour, but also serves one heck of a burger (listed in the original edition of George Motz's Hamburger America). And I'm a big fan! The 8 oz Alfredo burger (medium) served with melted American cheese, tomato, grilled onions, bacon, avocado slices and their special sauce. The special sauce contains mustard, so I got it without. The meat was so juicy and flavorful that I didn't need to add ketchup. The 4 oz cheeseburger is also great (light meal or big snack). The fries are what I'd always imagined "chips" to be... of fish and chips fame. They're shaped like potato chips, but thicker and obviously more potato-ey. For dessert I had the hot fudge sundae with chocolate quad and mallomar. Muy excellente! Others had floats and were happy with their choices. read more

We came to try the ice cream that people have been talking about and decided to have lunch first. I appreciate that the mayo was on the side as I forgot to tell them to hold it on my BLT. For $11 I expect more than three slices of bacon and too much lettuce. The bacon and toast were cooked well. No fatty undercooked pieces, a pet peeve of my sister. The shoestring potatoes we ordered were cold and undercooked. If you want water I suggest that you ask for a tall glass as the straw was twice the size of the glass. No ketchup, salt (which the fries really needed) or pepper on the table. I just took them from another table because once the plates were on the table that ended any sighting of servers. I do have to say that it got crowded so there's that. The coleslaw was good a little sweet with carrots in it. I'm hoping the $2.50 coleslaw side is bigger than the tiny one that accompanied our sandwiches. As for the ice cream which is why we came, the kids peach ice cream to go was a good size. That's where the good stopped. There was no peach flavor. It tasted like vanilla ice cream with some little pieces of what was supposed to be peach even though the color was peachy orange. I couldn't find a flavor I wanted to try. I'm guessing because this place is smaller they don't have a lot of room for many flavors. Although they do have quite a few tables and a large display case with pints for $11. Not worth it IMO. Street parking only but residential behind it so I was able to find a space as the school there was not in session. Only one bathroom but it was very clean. Had a new to me system that you scan a QR code on the check at the table to pay ( I guess I'm old) and get a discount if you do. Even though I live in the area we have not been to Hildebrandt's until now. Came here my wife and daughters. We ordered Pistachio on a cone, and cup of chocolate and a cup of coconut (special of the day) I shared with my wife. We all enjoyed every bit of the ice cream. At one time, maybe just 6 months ago, I would have given them 5 stars, but they definitely changed, and obviously not for the better. Three of us walked in, and were sat at a table in such a cramped corner that we could barely fit, and we're not large people. The next table was roomier, but still smaller than your average restaurant table. But it's a four person table pushed up against another four person table, so you'd have to sit shoulder to shoulder with strangers if anyone else came in. Also, it's 82 degrees F° outside and very humid. We're having a heatwave here in NYC this week. The A/C was barely on, so it was hot as heck in there. The place was never large, but they've crammed in so many extra tables that it's made it uncomfortable. Finally, the menu. They updated it maybe half a year ago, and they removed a lot of items, and made the remaining ones much, much more expensive. Sadly, the three of us got up, and left before we ordered, so I have nothing on the food or service. Sorry. It used to be a great place, but seems to be in a downturn. Let me tell you , the new Hildebrandt's is a big disappointment. Where do I start?? You walk in and there are 3 huge tvs on the wall where nostalgic memories used to be. The glass showcase filled with chocolates and other delicious candy is gone and replaced with more tables and chairs. They had the best chocolate and jellybeans ever , before new owners took over. Next you seat yourself , there's no direction whatsoever, as the owner sits watching his satellite tvs and doesn't even greet you when you walk in. So we sat down at a table and just waited till someone came over. I ordered the banana split, and my wife ordered two scoops of icecream. She had the mint chip which tasted like toothpaste with too much mint and cappuccino which was very bland. As for my banana split it was half the original size, and was 14.25 ...are you kidding me . The old Hildebrandts portions were twice the size and the waiters were very sweet and nice. Heck the banana split had only 1/4 of a banana in it. This place is a disappointment to say the least. The flare and feel are gone. Sad I was coming here as a young child . Now to my knowledge, they are going to have boozy milkshakes. As a Hildebrandt's customer for over 40 years, I am disappointed by the recent changes. We have always enjoyed visiting every few months, valuing both the atmosphere and the thoughtful modern touches, as well as the neighborhood convenience. Recently, we were shocked to see the glass display cases gutted, the classic telephone booth removed and replaced with a modern freezer and small desk, and much of the décor--including cups, napkin dispensers, and other traditional fixtures--replaced with cheap items. The usual counter staff were missing, and the new staff were inattentive. The menu has been drastically reduced, with whole sections of the old offerings, such as all pasta and main courses, removed, while prices have risen sharply. Most disappointing, the ice cream recipes have changed for the worse: gone is the creamy, full-flavored taste, replaced with icy, bland versions. Altering the original recipes to save money while charging more is disheartening, and those who passed these recipes down for generations should be angry. The historically respected features and homemade food that once justified Hildebrandt's higher prices are being dismantled with each "renovation." While some past updates, like the new seating, were positive and maintained the old American charm, the current changes feel cheap and diminish the historic character. I sincerely hope the owner restores what made Hildebrandt's special, including the food, ice cream recipes, and experienced staff who have served customers faithfully for years. If this review could have a title, I would title it "The Magic is Gone." TLDR: USED TO be a great diner. Now serves subpar food at a much higher price with slower and less experienced staff. Save yourself the trouble and either stay home or go to a classic NY diner. I moved to the area 8 years ago and Hildebrandt's was my absolute favorite place to eat. It had the best burger, fries, and ice cream I ever had. However, today that reality was unfortunately crushed. What was once a great little dive straight out of the 1950s is now a stranger wearing the skin of what used to be Hildebrandt's. Upon entering, I noticed that the place had gotten a bit of a face lift since the last time I had been there a few months prior. Not inherently a bad thing. I also noticed that everyone except for one person working in there was very young, most likely high schoolers. That's not an issue in and of itself, however it was obvious that the new staff was much less experienced and was not efficient with handling a busy restaurant. It took about 80 minutes for myself and my plus one to have a burger and fries and a milkshake and sundae for dessert. It took about 25-30 minutes for the burgers and fries to come out. Albeit, the restaurant was busy, however I have been to this restaurant countless times in years past while it was packed to the brim while never waiting more than 10-15 minutes for food. We were starkly disappointed at the quality of the burgers once they arrived. They tasted like nothing and I'm convinced they have since switched over to frozen burgers. The most tasteful thing on the burger was the ketchup. The slab fries are still pretty much the same concept-wise, however I noticed that only about 3 of french fries were cooked correctly. The rest were either undercooked to the point of being inedible or overcooked so it was like eating potato chips. When we asked for cokes, they brought us old-fashioned diner cokes. Awesome. However, when we finished them and asked for refills, they brought us canned coke. Canned coke in a "classic soda shop." We waited another 10-15 minutes for a waitress to come back while we had obviously finished eating, with our plates on the edge of the table. Even when they came back to take our order for ice cream (which took way longer than it should have), they *still* left the dirty plates on the table until they brought us the ice cream another 10-15 minutes after that. The restaurant claims that its ice cream is still homemade, which I'm not denying, but the ice cream in the sundae tasted old and freezer burnt. "Today, [the current owner] proudly carries the torch, infusing the restaurant with his passion for preserving its nostalgic charm," a quote from the 'Story' tab of the Hildebrandt's website reads. I question the reality of this statement. They filmed The Irishman here just a few years ago because it was truly a nostalgic gem, but now it is covered in TVs and pictures of horse racing and Taylor Swift. read more

A magical birthday experience! I have been drying to check out Hildebrandt's for years and there's no better time than your birthday. I love everything old and this place was simply adorable. We passed the original phone booth and sad at the counter which really takes you back in time. The young man behind the counter wasn't very attentive or a good server but I wouldn't let that ruin my time. Up one hearing it was my birthday, the manager gave us 50% off our brownie sundae which was delicious. I had no idea you could also eat dinner there so maybe that's for next time. read more

I came here with my dad, my son and my friend Cathy. She likes doing family stuff with my dad and my son when we do it. I was excited for the pie a la mode but they didn't have apple pie and it ruined my mood for trying their ice cream so I settled on sweet potato fries. They made them in an interesting way because they cut the potatoes into circle sized pieces instead of the stick shape fries normally are but they were good. The quality and consistency that we had loved has dropped considerably. Old school looking diner that has pretty decent food. I had the chicken burger, my wife had the chicken wrap, my son had cheese quesadillas and my daughter had chicken fingers. All was fresh and delicious. We also had the ice cream sundae which we all devoured. The service was pretty good. They were attentive and helpful. The only negative is the pricing. $14 for a chicken burger with half a pickle and a tiny cole slaw with no fries is robbery. Fries should always be included. Overall bill was quite expensive and could have gotten more food for less money at other establishments. TLDR: This previously well respected historically accurate establishment has begun to gut the historic features and homemade food/ice cream that justified its higher prices, while hiking prices and replacing experienced staff. As a long time customer of Hildebrandt's I am extremely disappointed by the recent changes to the interior. My family and I like to go every few months, and while it is slightly pricey the atmosphere makes it well worth the meal. Tonight we intended to have dinner and dessert as usual, but were shocked to see the glass display cases were gutted and the classic telephone booth were removed and replaced by a modern freezer and a miniature desk. Once sat we were greeted by an entirely new modern menu missing whole sections of the old one (like all their pasta dishes!!) and some pretty extreme price increases. The new staff were extremely inattentive, and from the time we were greeted it took almost a half hour for us to order (although half the restaurant was empty), and we were not provided any waters until we asked. In the ample time we had to look around, we observed a majority of the decorations were removed, and the classic cups, napkin dispensers, and other accoutrements were replaced with cheap modern Coke branded items. The TV's were all set to foreign political stations, and the usual counter staff was not there. While some changes in previous months were productive and appreciated, such as new more comfortable seating that still maintained the old American atmosphere, this more modern and cheap look is concerning for an establishment that begged locals to sign petitions to preserve its historic heritage just two years ago. Will it still be eligible as a historic landmark if key aspects of the interior are modified? Where do I start!!!! Well when walking in it would great if there was an actual hostess. It tend to get a bit confusing if we're able to seat our self. Also the service is all over the places it seems like there is no order and no one knows what they're doing. Also every table was filthy.
